Barbara H. Cathcart - June 24, 1935 - May 16, 2024

Departed: 05/16/2024 (Cornwall-On-Hudson)
Obituary Preview: Barbara A Cathcart June 24, 1935 – May 16, 2024 Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY
On Thursday, May 16, 2024, Barbara A Cathcart entered into eternal rest at Nuvance Health Vassar Brothers Medical Center of Poughkeepsie at the age of 88. Barbara was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna Hoffmann, born on June 24, 1935, in Newburgh, NY.
She graduated from Newburgh Free Academy Class of 1953 and was then employed at the New York Telephone Company in Newburgh for ten years.
On September 22, 1963, she and her husband, William (Bill), were married at St. Francis Church in Newburgh.
She was a lifelong sports fan. She loved to watch the NY Mets. Even though she was the proud spouse of a "Navy man" in every way, she cheered on Army at every event she attended unless her beloved Navy team came to West Point to play football, basketball, baseball, and other sports. Barbara was a prolific baker. Her preparations for holiday baking occupied the space of months, and she would turn out close to a thousand cookies as well as multiple fruitcakes and other holiday goodies. She was also an avid gardener, taking the utmost care of her many flowers and plants. Her pride of ownership showed each year when she would spend countless hours outside, attending to the property and preparing beautiful bouquets of cut flowers for her many friends and family members. In recent years, she took great joy in attending the many events and bus trips offered through the Cornwall Recreation Department, where she made many new friends. She was always particularly eager to sign up for trips to casinos, where she could expand on her love of scratch-off lottery tickets by pushing the maximum bet button on slot machines. There was no machine that featured 7s or diamonds that she did not play.
She also loved polka music and she and Bill followed Jimmy Sturr around the area to many events. There are wonderful memories of dances over the years with their friends.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Susan and husband, Walter Marvel; sister, Elizabeth (Bette) Grethe, brother-in-law Mark Grethe and nephew Peter Grethe. Also, nieces, Nora Reilly and her husband, Michael, Diane Martinez and her husband, Bill; many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her husband Bill; sister and brother-in-law, Marie and David Herbison; nephew, David Herbison; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Barbara also leaves behind her beloved “grand cats” and “grand dogs”.
The family wishes to thank Arianne Sonnenschein and staff of Horizon Family Medical of New Windsor; Dr. John Portelli and staff of the Heart Center in Newburgh; Dr. George Profeta and staff of Hudson Valley Pulmonary Associates in New Windsor; and the Nuvance Health Vassar Brothers heart valve team for their kindness, compassion and wonderful care shown to Barbara over the years and especially in recent months.

Dr. Raymundo S. Sison - November 11, 1935 - April 29, 2024

Departed: 04/29/2024 (Cornwall-On-Hudson)
Obituary Preview: DR. RAYMUNDO S. SISON November 11, 1935 – April 29, 2024 New Windsor, NY
Dr. Raymundo S. Sison of Newburgh, NY the strong, often times silent patriarch passed away on April 29, 2024 at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in the Hudson Valley where he had made his home for the past 50 years. Dr. Sison born November 11, 1935 is the son of the late Vicente Sison and Trinidad (Siojo) Sison in San Miguel, Bulakan, Philippines. He was the 10th child and youngest son of 11 children, a proud member of the Greatest Generation.
Dr. Sison's early years were shaped by the Japanese occupation of the Philippines during World War II. Overcoming the challenges of that era, his family focused on rebuilding their lives on their farm and resuming education for the children. Detecting academic promise in her younger brother, older sister Mameng strictly guided and financially supported Ray helping him ultimately realize his dream of graduating and obtaining his medical degree from Santo Thomas Medical School in Manila in 1959.
Medicine was not just a profession for Dr. Sison; it was his calling and his purpose. Against the backdrop of the emerging Civil Rights Era and Vietnam War he immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s to continue his training in his chosen field of interest, Anesthesia at Metropolitan Hospital and Flower and Fifth Avenue Hospital in NYC. During this time he reconnected with Ines, an acquaintance from his Davao City days who was a nursing instructor at nearby Martland Medical Center in Newark, NJ. They married and raised four beautiful children, Vince, Ann, Jun, and Jeanne.
As a physician at a small hospital 60 miles north of New York City, Dr. Sison found his professional stride, providing compassionate care to his patients and becoming a trusted pillar of the community. His dedication to anesthesiology earned him a reputation as a fiery patient advocate and led him to the position of Department Head which he held until his retirement from Cornwall Hospital in 2000.
Beyond his medical practice, Dr. Sison embraced life in the Hudson Valley, enjoying time with friends, family, and colleagues. Whether entertaining guests with elaborate meals at their gracious house in Balmville, embarking on deep-sea fishing adventures, or attending black-tie events at Lincoln Center, he approached every moment with energy, simplicity and grace.
Dr. Sison's professional journey may have ended just prior to the merger of Cornwall Hospital with St. Luke's in 2002, but his commitment to serving others continued, practicing medicine as a locum tenens in his specialty, providing care to underserved communities across the country. During these travels he always kept his eyes open for opportunities to play golf with Ines at nearby beautiful and challenging golf courses.
In the face of his declining health over the past decade, Dr. Sison's humor remained intact, and he found solace in a deeper spiritual life. Supported by the dedication of his wife, daughter Jeanne, and tireless healthcare aide Gerry, he lived quietly and comfortably in his final years surrounded by family until the end.
Ray leaves behind a legacy of compassion, integrity, and unwavering dedication to helping others through charitable giving. His memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Ray is survived by his wife: Ines A. Sison at home; his children: Vincent Sison and his wife Kathleen, Ann (Sison) Perugini and her husband John, Raymundo Sison Jr. and his wife Robyn, and Jeanne Sison; and his grandchildren: Augustus and Ignatius Sison, Lucia Perugini and Karly Sison.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3rd at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4th at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Francis Cemetery, New Windsor, NY.

Norma I. Gonzalez - December 04, 1946 - February 22, 2024

Departed: 02/22/2024 (Cornwall-On-Hudson)
Obituary Preview: NORMA I. GONZALEZ December 4, 1946 – February 22, 2024 New Windsor, NY
Norma I. Gonzalez, of New Windsor, NY entered into eternal rest on February 22, 2024 at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY. She was 77 years old.
The daughter of the late Urbano Alicea and Rosalia (Borrero) Alicea, Norma was born on December 4, 1946 in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Norma was retired from Varsity Transit then worked as a Dispatcher with Pioneer Transportation for the New York City Public School System.
Affectionately called “Nickie” by all who knew and loved her, she hasn’t changed much from that little girl who arrived in the Bronx from Puerto Rico in the early fifties with a strong character and full of sass. She was a neat freak and fiercely protective of the “things” she collected over the years. She was a proud, hard-working woman who loved dressing up even if just to go to the grocery store. Her hair had to be just right and never a day without her lipstick, her jewelry, and her purse. She had a presence you just couldn’t ignore, not that she would let you. What she will be most remembered for would be her strength, her dedication to her Family, her confidence, and, of course, her parties on Elder.
Diagnosed with an array of ailments including Scleroderma almost 50 years ago, she refused to succumb to what she learned was Mixed Connective Tissue Disease. Though she was frail and delicate on the inside, she camouflaged her fragility with a tough outer shell. Her determination and strength pulled her through countless “close calls’. She was a fighter. She will be missed greatly.
In addition to her parents; her brothers: Ruben and Johnny Martinez; her sisters: Migdalia Maisonet, Judith Sierra; and many other friends and family members, Norma was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Robert “Bobby” Gonzalez in April of 2017. She is survived by her loving children: Nadeen (Gonzalez) Tuzo and her husband Hector Tuzo and Linda Gonzalez and her husband Jeffrey Sininsky; and by her granddaughters: Megan Velez and Nadia Tuzo. Her surviving siblings include Marta Roman, Sylvia Hernandez, Ada Hernandez and Zulma Pacitti.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4th at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. Family Reflections will begin at 7:00 p.m. A joint Committal Service for both Norma and Robert with Military Honors will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5th at Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY.
Memorial Contributions in Norma’s name may be made to The Scleroderma Research Foundation, 220 Montgomery Street, Suite 484, San Francisco, CA 94104. Ema L. Crossetta entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 1, 2024 in Rock Tavern, New York.
Ema was born on February 7, 1928 to Umberto and Ester (Valentino) Lalli in Long Island City, NY.
Ema is survived by daughters: Gina Crossetta and her wife Bethann Rooney, Andrea Tencza and her husband Timothy, Christine Ponessa and her husband Steve; and two loving and adoring granddaughters: Emily Rooney and Madeline Tencza. Ema was most known for her love of reading and from the time she was a young child she was carrying stacks of books to and from the local library. That continued throughout her life, even when she needed assistance carrying the books! Over the years she cultivated a love for British authors, but had a special place in her heart for a few American crime fiction writers as well. In her later life when her mobility was limited, she relied even more heavily on reading as a source of distraction and she would check out 10-12 books at a time. She always seemed surprised that she could ‘get away’ with checking out so many books at one time!
Ema was also fond of puzzles, solving the New York Times Crossword and Reader’s Digest puzzles in record time. Her family knew not to call her nightly between 7 and 8 PM as she was always glued to Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. Just hours before she passed peacefully in her sleep, she was surrounded by her daughters for her final game shows. Burial will be private.
