Obituary Preview: Grazia Guido (nee Conforti), 91, entered eternal rest on May 13, 2024, at Home Inspired Care Facility in Kenosha.

The daughter of the late Francesco and Rosaria (Greco) Conforti, she was born on April 9, 1933, in Marano Principato, Regio de Calabria, Italy. She lived there until she immigrated to the U.S. in January 1957.

On June 4, 1950, Grazia married Cesare Guido at Maria Ss. Annunziata. She remained a devoted widow after Cesare passed away on May 27, 1986.

As a young child, Grazia helped with cooking meals and tending to farm chores in Italy. After arriving in this country, she worked various jobs, making pizzas at a neighborhood restaurant, factory work, and later food service at Somers Elementary School. In addition to her jobs away from home, she helped Cesare in their vegetable garden, making homemade salami, canning, and cooking delicious meals. Grazia had a powerful desire and determination to provide for her family and often hosted large family gatherings, she made sure everyone ate more than enough.

We remember Grazia as a loving provider, caring more for others and seldom concerned about her own needs or how hard it became to bake her cuddruriaddri and chocolate chip cookies as her back failed her with age. She was the happiest when her meals were devoured, everyone took naps on her couch and went home with some leftovers, double-wrapped for protection with a twist tie.

Grazia was devoted to her family and a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Surviving are four children, Joann (Lee) Martinson of Windsor, WI, Benedetto (Lisa) Guido of Delafield, WI, Mary (Keith) Haber and Tina (Steve) Dumyahn, both of Kenosha, 14 grandchildren, Lisa (Cameron), Kristin (Tim), Daniel (Chelsea), Timothy (Sarah), Mia (Logan), Natalie, Rick (Vicki), Kelly (Thomas), Alivia (Tom), Alec (Randi), Lauren (Paris), Kyle, Alec and Zachary, and 23 great-grandchildren, Giavanna, Davis, Brady, Kaden, Adelyn, Austin, Vincent, Rocco, Eliana, Lola, Michael, Anthony, Ava, Lily, Garrett, Garin, Bella, Gianna, Dominic, Rylee, Logan, Elijah and Anthony.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gabriele (Rafaella) Conforti and in-laws, Carolina (Benedetto) Savaglio, Saveria (Giacomo) Ruffolo, Francesco (Lina) Guido, Florinda (Pasquale) Chiappetta and Emilio (Amalia) Guido.

Guy Louis Turco - October 08, 1935 - May 10, 2024

Obituary Preview: Guy Louis Turco, 88, of Kenosha, entered the gates of heaven peacefully on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Clifden Court Assisted Living in Franklin, WI surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Kenosha on October 8, 1935, he was the son of the late Giuseppe “Joe” Turco and Rose (Covelli) Turco.

On May 13, 1961, he married Gladys Tures at St. George Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on February 17, 2015, after nearly 54 years of marriage.

Following his graduation from St. Mary’s High School in 1955, Guy served in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged.

For more than 30 years, Guy worked as a machinist at Alfa Laval Inc., and its legacy brand Ladish Tri-Clover, in Kenosha, WI, until his retirement in 1998.

Guy was an avid gardener and an active member of the Kenosha Garden Club, holding several offices over the years, including president. He was also actively involved with his parish, St. Therese Catholic Church, helping organize activities like weekly bingo and the annual parish festival. After his retirement, Guy joined the Italian American Society of Kenosha, where he regularly participated in social activities, including the bocce ball league. In addition to his passion for gardening and his commitment to his faith, Guy enjoyed baking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his three children, Karla (Rob) Larsen of Pleasanton, CA, Christopher (Renee) Turco of Franklin, WI, and Rebecca (Brian) Konya of Mequon, WI; eight grandchildren, Olivia, Claire, Kayla, Cassandra, Joseph, Allison, Madeline, and Lila; and sister Janet Weiss of Apple Valley, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters, Mary Jane Sorensen, and Laura Burke.

The family would like to thank The Legacy of St. Joseph’s, Hospice Alliance, Clifden Court, and Preceptor Home Health Alliance for their heartfelt care, compassion, and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 24th, at St. Therese Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 24th, 2024, at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Born November 18, 1939, Liz was a nurse’s aide for her entire career at St. Catherines Hospital, Kenosha Hospital, and Brookside Care Center.

Liz enjoyed traveling, dining out and spending time with her family, friends, nieces, and nephews. She lived at Robin Way and participated in community outings and activities. Liz was known for her generosity, happily giving away all that she had acquired through the years. Her kindness, generous spirit and subtle sense of humor was appreciated by her fellow residents and staff members.

She is survived by a brother, Carmen (Lori) Andrea, and sister-in-law Rina Andrea, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, as well as her dear cousin Gloria Andrea.

Liz was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph (Olivia) Andrea and Louis Andrea, and sister Domenica (Jack) Gehring.

Obituary Preview: Sandra Jean Bertelle, age 70, passed away after a short illness on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI.

Sandra was born on March 28, 1954, and was raised and educated in Kenosha, WI. She was active in theatre and color guard for Mary D. Bradford High School marching band. Her passion was always in theater, singing, dancing, movies, music, and the arts. She traveled the USA with her brother Franklin. She loved camping with family, always learning how to navigate maps, etc. With what began as a father and brother influence, she became a die-hard CUB fan (since childhood), at Wriggly field or on TV. The night the goat/curse bit the dust she celebrated in the middle of the night with family and her favorite bourbon.

Pursuant to her passion for theatre, she moved to Los Angeles, CA to attend USC subsequently receiving a BFA and MFA.

While in LA, Sandra began working in the organization founded by the father of Adam Welsch (Save The Children). Returning to Kenosha she accepted a position at Kenosha District Attorney’s office as a Victim Witness Coordinator working with victimized children of abuse and sexual assault.

Concurrently, she pursued her love for marching band and color guard competition by becoming a DCI judge which took her to all corners of the USA for over two decades and was still active. She developed numerous lifelong friendships throughout the country.

Since retiring from the DA’s office, she has been involved in numerous side jobs (to keep busy) while maintaining the love for family, friends, entertainment, gardening, cooking, and always looking out for troubled or wounded wildlife. She had a passion for giving and helping whoever needed the extra touch and/or love.

Sandy is survived by her brother, Franklin Bertelle of Kenosha, and a large loving family of cousins, aunts, and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Emma (Travanty) Bertelle.

She is also survived by one brother, Don (Joan) Carlson.

Linda lived an adventurous life. She was not only a jack of all trades, but a master of all. Throughout her life she mastered many different professions from being a farmer’s daughter, working in a bakery, driving a school bus, telephone operating, housekeeping, among others. She was also a dedicated member of St. James. But her most successful role was being a mother and a grandmother.

Her tenacity, fearlessness, and dedication to everything she did is something her family and friends will never forget. She was a true role model to everyone who had the pleasure to spend time with her.

She brought joy, laughter, and humor to all those around her and she will be dearly missed.

Marie Ruth Savaglio - October 13, 1937 - May 05, 2024

Obituary Preview: Marie Ruth Savaglio, age 86, born October 13, 1937, Kenosha, Wisconsin, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at the Hospice Alliance House in Pleasant Prairie, WI.

She met her husband, Dr. Alessandro Savaglio, at the Holy Rosary Summer Festival in 1956. On September 1, 1958, they were married at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2021.

Marie attended schools in Kenosha, WI and graduated from Marquette University Dental Hygiene Program. She started her career as one of the first female dental hygienists in Kenosha. After having a family, she stayed home to raise her seven children. She chaperoned many field trips, choir trips, and served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She later returned to work and joined her husband at the dental office caring for their family of patients.

Marie was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church where she served as the Music Director. Marie loved directing the choir for weekly Masses, Christmas Midnight Mass, and for the Annual Parish Festival Mass. She also played the organ and sang for weddings and funerals at the church.

Her passion was her family to whom she provided constant love and support. She loved cooking homemade meals, hosting holiday traditions, visiting her children and grandchildren, and attending their events. One of her favorite hobbies was playing the piano.

She was a wonderful mother and loved being a “Nana” to her grandchildren and “Great-Nana” to her great-grandchildren. Marie said she was “very proud of her children and they were her most important accomplishment.” She made every event special, and everyone felt loved. She will be deeply missed by her family and many wonderful friends.

She is survived by her devoted children, Joan (Dave) Cates, Dr. Al (Nora) Savaglio, Dr. Sue (Rob) Savaglio-Jarvis, Kathy (Greg) Fraid, Mike (Cathy) Savaglio, Anne (Mike) Troka, and Jennifer (Curt) Velvikis.

A proud Nana to Christopher (Eliza) Evans, Andrew (Tracie) Evans, Katie (Dr. Sean) Kelly, Joseph (Mary) Evans, Andrea (Jason) Sauve, Sam (Arielle) Savaglio, Gienna Jarvis, Simone Fraid, Savannah (Tony) Buffolino, Rocky Fraid, Dr. Michael (Genny) Savaglio, Mikayla (Corey) Bartkus, Dr. Alexandra Savaglio, and Michael, Matteo, Marco and Maximo Troka.

A blessed great-grandmother to Jude, Lucy and Gabriel Evans, Alison and Juliet Sauve, Presley and Beckham Buffolino, Stella and baby Savaglio on the way. Marie is also survived by many caring and loving nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews and cousins.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Emil and Elizabeth (Gentile) Ruffalo, her brother Frank Ruffalo, in-laws, Alex Savaglio, Richetta (Conforti) Savaglio, three sisters-in-law, Rosalie (Gabriel) Ruffolo, Yolanda (Arnold) Hennig, and Adriana Savaglio, and nephew Joseph (Linda) Ruffolo.

Obituary Preview: Saturday, May 4, 2024, Lois Ann (Witt) Wilson, 95, passed away at Aurora Hospital surrounded by her family. She leaves behind her loving husband of 77 years, John Andrew Wilson, Jr.

Lois loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at their Lake House in Tichigan boating, playing games, preparing meals together, sharing incredible memories. She could play a mean game of Scrabble and any of us were delighted if we came close to her scores or even rarely beat her. She was so very intelligent, kind, fun, and full of motherly wise advice to anyone who would listen. She believed in service and caring for those less fortunate. Shown by her many years of involvement with Human Concerns at St. Mark Parish, countless years volunteering at the Shalom Center, the INNS Program, Soup Kitchen, Circle of Friends, and donations to many other charities.

Lois had a big family which was her goal in life and her everlasting pride and daily joy. She was born during the depression era and knew how to stretch a dollar often following sales and clipping coupons to make ends meet when raising her large brood. She worked alongside her husband at Wilson’s TV and Record Store, later opened Plaster Arts with her older Daughters, became a Realtor working for the Viola family at Badger Realty, and later for many years with Colleen Realty before retiring.

Lois was sadly preceded in death by three of her daughters Catherine (Robinson) Hagen, Dawn Ade, and Marilyn Wilson.

She is survived by her soul mate, Andy, and her children, Sharon Salas, Joan Harris, Jay Wilson, Beth (James) Sconzert, and Donna Sowden. Daughter and son-in-law, Ken and Karen Ade.

She is further survived by grandchildren, Brock (Shawna) Robinson, Jackie (Sam) Perez, Zachary (Sandy) Robinson, Lucas Ade, Betsy Ade, Samuel (Amy) Martin, Anne (Rese) Hodges, Christine (Rick) Clouse, Andrew Martin, Jaime Zich, Nicole Bigger, Allie Zich, Wesley (Jen) Wilson, Jennifer (Graham) Edme, Anthony Sconzert, Michelle (Eric) Hughes, Samantha (Ben) Ness, Jennifer Sconzert, Kyle Sconzert, Jason Wilson Sowden, Jordan Sowden, Danielle Sowden, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Mary Susan Arentz, age 83 of Pleasant Prairie, WI, passed away peacefully at her daughter and son-in-law’s house on May 1, 2024, after a long courageous battle with cancer.

She was born August 5, 1940, in Winona, MN to Ted and Ruth (O’Neil) Bernatz. She grew up in Winona and graduated from the College of St. Teresa. After college she moved to Green Bay, WI to begin her teaching career. After a year in Green Bay, WI, she then moved to Kenosha, WI where she met Lawrence “Larry” Arentz; they were married in Winona, MN on August 28, 1965. She continued her teaching career and taught kindergarten for over 32 years in the Kenosha Unified School District.

She enjoyed a variety of activities including reading, gardening, casino bus trips, watching professional and college sport and spending time with family and friends. Watching her grandsons play sports was one of her favorite activities. Her faith was important and she was an active member at St. Therese Catholic Church. She was always reaching out to family and friends to stay in touch and offer help and support. She was a Eucharistic Minister and taught religious education classes. She was a poll worker for many years and volunteered at the Shalom Center. She was a member of KCREA (Kenosha County Retired Educators Association), the NEA and WEAC.

Survivors include her daughter Tricia (John) Roach, daughter-in-law Maria Arentz, grandchildren Lisa (Dan) Askvig, Michael (Josie Watson) Roach, Brian (Mae Guzlas) Roach, Stephanie (Adam) Brys, Eugene Martin, three great grandchildren, sister Kathy (Bill) Peterson, brother-in-law Dave Moulton and extended family and friends.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Larry, son Kevin Arentz, grandson Steven Arentz, sister Anne Moulton, and brother Michael Bernatz.

Obituary Preview: Walter L. Schefky, 84, of Kenosha, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at ClearSky Rehabilitation Hospital of Kenosha.

Born on May 6, 1939, in Kenosha, WI, he was the son of the late Ludwig and Bertha (Weidner) Schefky.

He served our country and was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force. He went on to be a supervisor for American Brass Company.

Walter is survived by sister Hattie Frese, niece Julie Frese (James), niece Janet Frese, nephew John Frese (Cindy), grandniece Katy, grandnephew John (Reiko), greatniece Scout, and several cousins. He was an enduring influence throughout their lives as well as others, as he portrayed pure truth, kindness, and enduring love.

He was preceded in death by brother-in-law Herbert Frese, and several cousins.

Known as Wally by those close to him, he was well-respected as a generous and gentle soul who loved Kenosha. He served as a tour guide for family and friends.

Wally was an avid gardener and loved all types of plants and flowers. He treasured his many books and was extremely well-read. He had a brilliant mind and a wide variety of interests. Two of his favorite topics were history (particularly the Civil War) and finance.

He was also a long-term member and benefactor of St Luke’s Lutheran Church in Kenosha.

A private service was held, and he was laid to rest at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park with full military honors. The Gardener by Mark Gregory The gardener, with his spade and hoe, Works in the sun and rain and snow; He digs and plants and waters too,

And watches over what he grew. He tends the flowers with loving care, And prunes the branches here and there; He weeds the beds and mends the fences,

On August 15, 1959, she married Sam Spair in Melrose Park, IL. They later moved to Bartlett, IL where they lived for 22 years. In 2016, they moved to Kenosha where he later preceded her in death on May 13, 2019.

If you could sum up Jo in one word it would be FAMILY. She looked forward to Sunday family dinners, watching her family and somehow always “became allergic to the kitchen appliances”. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and had the honor of being called “GG”. She would have weekly dominos and food with her friends in the cul-de-sac and looked forward to the weekly (if not daily) neighborhood Happy Hour.

Jo is survived by her two children, Sam (Joan) Spair and Debbie (Mark) Camaioni; four grandchildren, Sam (Tiffany) Spair, Michelle (Steven) Dimitrijevic, Jenny (Jonathan) Booth, and Laura (Trever) Arnold; great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Sawyer, Lakelyn, Rudi, Lena, Elle, and two more on the way; and sister, Sophia Cicero. Jo was also very close with all her nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael in infancy; and siblings, Elena Pantaleo and “Lash” Mannozzi.

She was born October 9, 1939, in Laredo, TX, the daughter of the late Ignacio and Leonor (Gonzalez) Molina. She grew up in Laredo, and after meeting her first husband, Eugenio Lara they relocated to Kenosha, WI where they had their children. Maria was a devoted member of La Hermosa Church, Kenosha, WI, was a gifted baker, and enjoyed antiquing.

Survivors include her children, Martha (Jesse) Perez, Eugene Lara (Jr.), Adrian (Norma) Lara, and Olga (Jermaine) Oakley; grandchildren, Vanessa (Mark) White, Ramiro IV, Gabriella (Benny) Ramos, Lawrence Jr, Alexandra (Chispy), Maria, Kylie, Grace, Myles, Jacob, Jason, and Jaydon; bonus children, Josefina Perez, Maria (Ruben) Castanuela, Esmeralda Segura, Maria Elena (Javier) Ochoa, Guadalupe (Lupita) Torres Jr., Benito (Mary) Torres, Fernando (Gloria) Torrez, Samuel (Anna) Torres, and Patricia (Alberto) Rodriguez; and 42 bonus grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Maria was preceded in death by Jesse Torres, Lupita Terrazas, Juan Jose Torres, Jesus Perez Sr., and Lydia Torres.

Travis retired from Chrysler (American Motors Corporation) as a gauge repairman in 1991 after 40 years of service. He also worked 10 years at Pepsi-Co. Travis proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged after two years. In 1952, he married Rosemary Fisher in Kenosha, WI. They had two sons, Tracy and Greg, and were later divorced. His hobbies included gardening, hunting and fishing. He was also sure to make it to his daily 3:00 p.m. bar time.

Survivors include his son, Tracy (Terri) Gilliland of Kenosha, WI; grandchildren, Tiffany Gilliland, TJ Gilliland, Stacy (Darin) Gilliland-Gaza and Jenna Gilliland; five great grandchildren, Auriana, Tain, Jaya, River and Sage.

Annette had a long career as a legal secretary at Snap On Tools and eventually Case. She had a fascination with the law which prompted her to become a paralegal in 2003. She continued her paralegal work freelance until 2023. One of Annette’s many talents was being a computer genius. She often lent a hand to friends, family, and neighbors if they needed any computer help. Once retired, Annette kept active in her community by taking on the treasurer role at her Condominium Complex for many years. She had many friends in the community who adored her loving nature, sharp wit, and dry sense of humor. Annette cherished spending time with her family and friends, and was a talented crocheter, cross stitcher and seamstress. She spent countless hours crocheting gifts for family and friends and sewing clothing for her grandchildren’s American Girl dolls.

Survivors include her daughter, Sheryl Cohen of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, CA and grandchildren, Van and Dylan Coughlin.

In addition to her parents, Annette was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Petterson; second husband, William Erickson; and daughter, Carla Petterson.

Louie had a wonderful life with his wife, Carmen, and son, David. The family lived in Milwaukee, WI in their earlier years, making many fond memories spending time with extended family which often included big gatherings with aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. In the 1960’s, Louis worked as the Parkway and Uptown Theater manager and then for Briggs and Stratton for twenty-years. In later years, Louie moved to Kenosha and volunteered at Aurora Medical Center for seven years. He enjoyed movie nights with David, family & friends. He was an avid reader for many years and recently became a word search fanatic. He also enjoyed traveling out west, and places such as the John Wayne Museum and Devils Tower. Their favorite vacation spot was of course, Disney. His sense of humor was endless and he never lost his appreciation for a beautiful woman.

The family would like to especially thank Diane and Arevelon for their loving care of Louie in his home over the last few years. Additionally, Heartland Hospice nurses Angela and Heather, and more recently the care given by the staff at the Manor of Kenosha Nursing Home.

She also enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, attending church services, and making eggrolls at the Mt. Carmel Parish’s festivals.

Chung is survived by her 8 children: Dung Doan and her husband, Chu; Thuy Doan and her husband, Hoang; Thanh Doan and his wife, Trang; Jimmy Doan and his wife, Anhdao (Ann); Nghiem Doan and his wife, Thao; Tin Doan and his wife, Julie; Dieu Doan and his wife, Dieu; Nhu Doan and her husband, Minh. Her pride and joy were her wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother, Chung Nguyen, who is currently living in San Jose, California.

John proudly served his country in the Korean War from 1953 to 1955 earning the rank of Sargeant.

John had many talents and interests including his time as Co-Founder and Corps Director of the Kingsmen Drum and Bugle Corps along with Corps President Robert Fornero. John was part of the Junker Ball Post 1865 Corps and a Kingsmen corps snare drummer.

Another lifelong interest of John’s was his gift for restoring cars. He was founder of the Baker Park Car Show with friend Lou Rugani, and the founder of Vintage Auto Group with friend Jerry Boyd. He enjoyed collecting and restoring many old cars and gas pumps. One of his cars, a 1942 Cadillac, appeared in the movie The Last Great Ride with scenes shot in Kenosha.

John was well known as a huge Green Bay Packers fan having made multiple trips to Lambeau Field.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Janet Mae (Freitag) Vagnoni, and his son John Dean Vagnoni.

Survivors include his daughter Susan (Vagnoni) Murphy and grandsons, Alexander Vagnoni Murphy and Nicholas Vagnoni Murphy.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday April 23, 2024, at Proko Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, with services at 1:00 PM. They were married on January 20, 2001, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on June 22, 2019.

He was employed by AMC Chrysler as the Chief Steward for the Union until his retirement in 1988, when the Kenosha plant closed.

Frank had been a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Mary Catholic Church, the Kenosha Moose Club, and Racine Roma Lodge.

He enjoyed taking trips to Milwaukee to spend time at Potawatomi gambling and attending concerts.

Frank is survived by four children, Geri Cucunato, Frances Cucunato, Robert Cucunato, and Charles Cucunato; stepdaughter, Celeste (Robert) Fleming; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and other special family and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Therese Cucunato Madsen on December 13, 2017, and his sister and brother.

Born in Hilo, Hawaii on October 22, 1922, to the late Joseph and Alice (Ventura) Simas. As a young child his family moved to Honolulu, Oahu, to be closer to his grandparents, and for work purposes.

He entered the Marines the day after Pearl Harbor and served until he was honorably discharged. He went on to work for the City of Hawaii as public works. He was a member of United Public Works, Honolulu and helped pass legislations and lead picket lines. He retired in 1981. He loved to joke around and enjoyed being around his family, especially the children who brightened up his day. He experienced a lot of change living through the decades of a lifetime, that some may never know.

Ernest is survived by his children; Eraina Adams, Nathan Simas and Anthony Simas; siblings, Joseph Simas and Louis Hookano; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild, many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons Ernest Simas Jr. and Ralph, and siblings, Irene, George, Clarence, and Anthony.

A special thank you to his niece, Debbie Slusher, for her love and care during his long life. At one point he made the statement, “I am an old man, but I love Jesus.” And when asked what he felt was the reason for his long life, he said, “listen to your Doctor and most importantly God!”
