Mother Marbalene Beard Armstrong - February 24, 1935 - May 15, 2024

Obituary Preview: Mother Marbalene Beard Armstrong was born February 24, 1935, the fourth of six children, to Luther and Maggie Beard in Chidester, Arkansas in Ouachita County. She expressed a faith and hope in Christ at an early age at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in her hometown. As a little girl, she had a few piano lessons and studied music with her father. Betty, as she was known, played the piano at Pleasant Hill Church, accompanying her father as he directed the choir and sang solos. After graduating from Pleasant Hill School, she matriculated at Arkansas Baptist College earning a degree in Elementary Education. She later earned a Master of Arts in Education at Ouachita Baptist University. Her primary career was as an elementary educator. She began her teaching career in Hampton, Arkansas and served 37 years in the Pulaski County Special School District and the Little Rock Public School District. Post-retirement she taught in an Adult Education program, worked as a sales associate at JC Penney, and worked for Goodwill Industries. She was married to Earl Johnson and they gave birth to three children, Carolyn, Beverly, and Gregory. She was later joined in matrimony to Lacy Armstrong, who preceded her in death. Her granddaughter, Ravyn Bledsoe, also preceded her in death. Sister Armstrong was an active member of Greater Archview Baptist Church for more than 65 years. In the early years, she served as the church pianist. Sister Armstrong also served in the Missionary Society (second vice-president), Board of Christian Education, Music Ministry, Sunday School (pianist), volunteered for special projects in the Youth Department when her children were growing up, elementary school tutoring program, Vacation Bible School, Senior Ministry, and the Progressive Club. She loved to cook and bake and gained great joy in providing meals and goodies for the sick, bereaved and needy community members. She served as organist at Emmanuel Baptist Church for several years. In addition to her service in the church, Marbalene Armstrong was active in several community organizations, National Education Association, Arkansas Education Association, Pulaski Association of Classroom Teachers, and Arkansas Retired Teachers Association. She also actively served in the Alumni Association at Arkansas Baptist College. She also enjoyed sewing, traveling, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.
Cherishing her memory and holding warm thoughts in their hearts are her three children, Carolyn Foreman and Gregory Johnson of LIttle Rock; Beverly Chinn (Barry) of Garland, TX; brother, Elmer Beard of Hot Springs; sister-in-law, Lillie Beard, Pine Bluff; three grandchildren, Ruthie Foreman, North LIttle Rock, LeRon Foreman, Little Rock, and Nicholas Chinn, Garland, TX, three great-grandchildren, Lamarian Austin, Skyla Bledsoe, and Amiria Foreman, three God-daughters, Tamidra Marable, Kendra Carlock, and Krystal Jones, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.

Phillip loved his family and had a special bond with his favorite cousin Nehemiah Norwood, who preceded him in death. He loved to fish, work on cars and was there for anyone who needed him. On April 24, 2024, Phillip went home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carolyn and Hayward Jennings, special nephew, Phillip Robinson, special cousin, Nehemiah Norwood. Kathleen Glass - April 11, 1955 - April 23, 2024

Obituary Preview: EVANGELIST Kathleen Glass (nee Calvin), fondly known to family and friends as Kat, was born on April 11, 1955 in Rome, Mississippi. She was the beloved daughter of James Calvin, Sr. and Mattie Calvin (nee Streeter). She was the third of eight children
With a passion for education, Kathleen was heralded as an erudite! She received her primary education at North End Elementary in Helena, Arkansas. She continued her educational journey in St. Louis. MO at Immaculate Conception Catholic School, Hodgen Elementary, and McKinley High School. Kathleen maintained her Honor Roll educational status throughout her elementary, junior, and high school levels.
She was married to James Glass, Sr. from 1980-1988 and from this union three children were born. In addition to raising biological children, Kathleen proudly raised two nephews, Cedric and DeCarlos Calvin. Kathleen’s motherly nature also extended to foster children. In her home and throughout the community, Kathleen created an environment of laughter, love, and spirituality.
In 1978, Kathleen gave her life to Christ at Solomon’s Temple Church in St. Louis, Missouri. Kathleen's zeal for the Lord continued with an ordination to Minister. A devout Christian and ordained minister, Kathleen founded Shewbread Ministries. She was also a key evangelical figure at House of the Living Bread, founded by Bishop Randy Lindsey. At the time of Kathleen’s passing, she attended Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church where she continued her spiritual studies under the guidance of Pastor Billy McMullen. She served a litany of ministries throughout the country in various capacities. From singing in the choir to leading community outreach programs, which included women’s prison ministries. Her faith was unwavering, and she spread warmth and kindness wherever she went. Evangelist Glass began her collegiate studies in Batesville, Arkansas where she began an affiliation with the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. Kathleen earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Harris Stowe State University in St. Louis, Missouri and she went on to achieve a master's degree in special education at Webster University in Webster
Groves, MO. In addition, she completed an Educational Diagnostician Certification in Fort Worth, TX. Evangelist Glass also completed several courses towards a doctoral degree in education.
Because of Kathleen’s vast areas of studies, she held many positions in education. Kathleen began her teaching career in St. Louis Public Schools. She went on to teach science at Normandy Middle and then for the Special School Districts at the Juvenile Detention Center in St. Louis County. After over thirty years working in the field of education, Kathleen retired from the city of Fort Worth where she worked as a Diganostition.
Kathleen leaves to cherish her memory a loving family. She is survived by her mother, Mattie Calvin. Kathleen’s two surviving children Jatauan and James will continue to keep her legacy alive. Her daughter Mary Glass preceded her in death. Kathleen was a doting grandmother of six grandchildren, Makenzie, Jordyn, Gabrielle, Seraphine. Alanya and James III. She also leaves four siblings Bertha (Randy), Mildred, Edward (Adrienne) and Dekeatrick (Yolanda) along with a loving tribe of nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, James Calvin Sr., her three brothers J.B. Streeter, Johnny Lee and James Calvin, Jr. and her two sisters Renee and Mary Calvin. Kathleen leaves behind countless friends and community members whose lives she has touched.
To know Kathleen (Kat) was to be touched by her vivacious spirit filled with kindness, joy, playfulness, and love. She never met a stranger and, oftentimes, fed strangers she encountered within her local community. Kathleen was known for loving God, family, fun, food, travel, and people! She was a generous giver who enjoyed cooking, storytelling, and gardening, which brought happiness to both family gatherings and community events. Evangelist Glass was an avid traveler who traveled the world including the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Europe, and even Iceland! She was a loving daughter, a phenomenal mother, an endearing sister, an amazing aunt, a mentor and a friend, always ready with the word of God, wisdom, and/or a comforting embrace.
Kathleen was a beacon of light and joy. She dedicated her life to her faith, her family, and her community, embodying the virtues of compassion, grace, and resilience. For 69 years, Kathleen imbued our lives with the healing ministry of Christ, laughter, good food, and discipline. Kathleen’s legacy of love, faith, and perseverance will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Surrounded by family, God called Evangelist Kathleen Glass home on April 23, 2024. With profound sadness and eternal love, we will miss the presence of Evangelist Glass. Although we will miss her physical presence, we take solace in knowing that Evangelist Glass' last moments was spent praising God. We are comforted by the knowledge that her spirit is now resting in his loving arms.

Dan served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy, where he retired after a 20-year career with a final post as a valued member of Special Warfare Group 2. His dedication to his country was rivaled only by his devotion to his family.
Dan's legacy is carried on by his friends and family, as well as his sons, Jason and Timothy Duncan, who stand as living testaments to his strength, his compassion, and his unwavering guidance. Dan's life was a rich tapestry woven from his deep-seated passions, each thread representing an integral part of his being. Dan was a Warrior, an Artist, and a craftsman. His Native American heritage was the backdrop against which he lived every day, informing his profound respect for nature and all living things. A skilled woodworker, Dan infused his work with the traditions and craftsmanship of times long past. His love for the outdoors extended beyond the crafting table; it was in the open air, amidst the whispering trees and flowing rivers, where Dan felt most at peace. Gardening was another extension of his deep connection to the earth. He tended to his garden with the same patience and care he showed in all aspects of his life, viewing it as a sacred space where he could experience harmony.

He was a faithful member of Greater Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Curtis Rideout and currently David Featherstone. He served on the Men's Ministry and was willing to serve in any capacity needed.  Reuben enjoyed football and he loved the Arkansas Razorbacks. He cut yards and enjoyed manicuring lawns. Her loving, infectious smile will be etched in our hearts and memories; she brought us joy through her hugs and funny humor. She was a resilient soul that kept a smile even during harsh times. Those who loved her and protected her will dearly miss her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Aleima and Catherine Medlock. 3 sisters, Aleine Luvenia (Joe Nathan, Sr.),Medlock-White, Brenda Reynolds and Valeria Marie Medlock.
