Obituary Preview: Joyce Gay Jordan, 86, was born in Clear Spring, MD, on Wednesday,December 8, 1937 to Charles Franklin Schelle and Marie Mae (Faith) Schelle. After a short series of health issues, she departed this world to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 6, 2024. Joyce attended Clear Spring High School before entering the work force and striking out on her own. Then, at the age of 19, she married Leon Terry Jordan on August 3, 1957. Together, they built a life in Hagerstown that produced two children, Gloria Lorraine Miller and Terry Adrian Jordan. Joyce was a hard worker who provided for her children when she became a widow. She was employed for many years at the Maryland Ribbon Company holding various positions throughout her career. She was a member of the Evangel Baptist Church. Joyce especially enjoyed her flower gardens she produced each year.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, both children, and two siblings, Connie Schelle Semler and Terry Lee Schelle.
Joyce is survived by her siblings, Carolyn Atha of Williamsport, Gloria Eyer (William) of Chambersburg, PA, Bonita Faughander, of Hagerstown, and Charles Schelle (Linda) of Clear Spring. Joyce enjoyed her relationships with her numerous nephews and nieces along with their respective children. She held a special place in her heart for her sisters as well as her two nephews, Mike and Rodney Hoffman, whom she entrusted to care for her needs throughout her recent illnesses.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for a future date.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Obituary Preview: John ‘Dean’ Hoover, age 89, a resident Hagerstown, Maryland died Monday, April 29th 2024 at Doey’s House, Hospice of Washington County after an eight-month battle with brain cancer.
Born December 1, 1934 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Walter Scott and Mattie Fern (Martin) Hoover.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patsy Ann (Holmes) Hoover, who he married on November 30, 1957 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Hagerstown. In addition, to his wife, he is survived by his son, Curtis Hoover (of Brooklyn, NY), his brother Richard ‘Dick’ Hoover (of Chambersburg, PA), and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Deana Patrice, and 8 brothers and two sisters.
Dean graduated in 1952 from Quincy High School in Quincy, PA.
Dean was an Army Veteran having served in the United States Army from 1955-1957, serving most of his time in Munich, Germany.
Dean took early retirement from Mack Truck after 23 years. Prior to Mack Track, he worked for D.A. Wishard LLC and Sealtest Ice Cream. After retirement, he worked at Girls Incorporated driving vans for their after-school programs. Dean thoroughly loved that job and continued working part-time until he was 79.
Dean was a member of several local social clubs at different points his life those included Hagerstown Elks Club #378, Funkstown Lions Club, Williamsport Redman Club Tribe 84, and the Hagerstown Moose Lodge.
Dean enjoyed volunteering and helping others. He volunteered for the American Red Cross for 14 years and was an active blood donor throughout his life donating over 15 gallons (128 pints of blood). In 2009, he was recognized with The Beulah J. Meyers Award for Distinguished Humanitarian Service by the Washington County Maryland Chapter of the American Red Cross. That recognition was one of his most proud accomplishments.
Dean volunteered at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV and frequently drove veterans to and from appointments. He would help anyone in need and instilled the desire to help others in his son from a young age.
Dean loved the outdoors and was an active hunter and fisherman. Throughout his life, he regularly took hunting and fishing trips with his brothers. Dean also had fond memories of trips with his wife to London, cities throughout Ireland, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and frequent trips to Boston when his son lived there.
In his later years, Dean stayed active by taking daily walks in the community where he lived, making occasional visits to local casinos, and spending time with his best friend, and beloved dog, Tuukka.

She was the wife of Ronald Allen Lewis, her husband of 35 years. Born on June 14, 1964, in Olney, MD, she was the daughter of Nancy (Shafer) Reed of
Frederick and the late Herman Reed. She was a loving and devoted mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. Her interests included reading, crocheting, music, and crafting. Carole was known for providing endless comfort, compassion, and solace while asking little in return. Carole loved talking and spending time with her nieces, Patrisha Cavell Daugherty (Weezy), and
Brieanne Combs whom she loved as if she they were her very own daughters. Her departure comes as a great shock, leaving a deep wound that is gravely felt by her
entire family and the countless others who loved her. Carole is survived by her loving husband Ronald A. Lewis, her son Ronald A. Lewis Jr. and wife Bobbi Stoughton, her daughters Sarah (Lewis) Slade and Vanessa Lewis, her mother Nancy (Shafer) Reed, her sisters Nancy (Reed) Youngerman, Lois (Reed) Callaway, and her brothers Billy Reed, Charles Reed, and Brian Reed. Along with her 9 wonderful and loved grandchildren, Gabriel, Kya, Brooklyn, Cameron, Kiara, Isaiah, Ronnie, Brantley and soon to be born, Henry, Carole also has many aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Carole was preceded in death by her grandson Keontae Lewis, her father Herman Reed (Buzzy), her sister Scherry A. (Reed) Cavell, her maternal grandparents Paul and Marion Shafer, and her paternal grandparents Charles and Mary Reed. Carole, we will always carry your memory in our hearts, such a kind and beautiful person inside and out. We may feel you were taken too soon but we know you are at peace and in a place that you will love. “You belong among the wildflowers.” Carole will be cremated and there will be a celebration of life for family and friends at a
later date.

Colin will also be missed by all of his aunts, uncles and cousins.
Colin was born on June 3,1981 in Omaha, NE. He moved with his family to Durham, NC when he was 8 yrs old, & spent most of his young adult life there. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State in Boone, NC. He went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree from Savannah College of Art & Design in Savannah, GA.
Colin will be remembered as a caring, sensitive and creative person. He enjoyed nature, sports, and had a great sense of humor. Colin was an extremely talented artist and musician. His gift for creating beauty was evident from an early age. His beautiful art will continue to inspire and bring joy to the world. A celebration of Colin’s life will be held at St. Matthew’s Presbyterian Church, 4001 Bel Pre Rd, Silver Spring, MD at 2:00 pm on May 5, 2024

Scott was preceded in death by his father Donald Gilchrist Matheson and his mother Joanne Robinson. Scott is survived by his partner of 20 years, Diane Ellis of Brunswick, MD as well as his previous wives Susie Walters and Jennifer Matheson along with his two sons Sean Matheson and Timothy Matheson. In addition to his sons, Scott is survived by his brother Craig Matheson, his wife Ann Marie and their children Colin, Cam and Shea. Scott will also be missed by his many cousins.
Being the charmer that he was, his friends were numerous and brought him much joy. He worked in the restaurant industry since his teen years in every capacity. If you knew Scott, he was never seen without a book and more recently his kindle. He was always reading something! Scott always enjoyed theater as well and attended many a show with his mother Joanne, his brother Craig and his Stepfather Andrew Robinson.
Scott always had a smile and a comment for anyone and everyone. There was no one he wouldn’t talk to. He recently had some medical issues that prevented him from going back to work for the last year and half, but he kept pushing through the pain.
Because of his reading and literacy initiatives, in lieu of flowers, the family would request a donation in Scott’s name to the Brunswick Branch Library. For an online donation please go to www.fcpl.org/support (you can make the donation in Scott’s name). If you would prefer to send a check, it can be made out to “FCPL Brunswick Branch Library” and sent to Brunswick Branch Library, 915 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick, MD 21716.
His body, per his wishes, will be cremated and returned to Diane. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be planned in the upcoming months after the shock wears off. We will notify family and friends when a date has been finalized.

Susan is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jerald Miller, son Jason Miller, daughter Julie Cooper and husband Jay Cooper. She is also survived by her two miracle grandchildren whom she loved so much – Annie Grace Cooper and Emma Grace Cooper. She is also survived by her sister, Sally Ann Hose and several nieces and nephews.
She was a devoted Christian woman who was a faithful member of Hilltop Christian Fellowship. Her gift was to always help others in whatever way she could.
There will be no viewing. A memorial service will held at a date to be announced.

Her spirit was as beautiful as she was funny. You never had to guess how she was feeling, as she never held anything back. Linda was a devoted friend and employee, and will be sorely missed by everyone.
Linda, or Lulu, as she was affectionately called, had a passion for riding motorcycles and being near water, whether it was at the beach, pool, or by the river. She cherished moments spent with her family and friends. Linda could always be found dancing to any music that moved her soul, without a care in the world. She took pride in everything she did and thoroughly enjoyed helping those who needed it. If you needed her, she was there.
She is survived by her cherished family members, Sisters- Pennie Maynard, Louise Dow, and Brenda Price. Children- Mitchell Hawkins, Seth Hawkins, Samantha Collis, Aunt Martha and Uncle Chuck Cox. Nieces and nephews Jimmy Dow, Kelly Maynard, Heather Dow, Billy Maynard and Stephen Kotowski. Linda also leaves behind many dear friends that became family to her. She is preceded in death by her parents John E. Price and Pennie J. Price, and Grandmother Pennie L. Bailey.
A service to honor Linda's life will be held at Harman Funeral Home in Hagerstown, Maryland, on March 2, 2024, at 2 pm. The Harman Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements for the ceremony, where family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of a woman who lived life to the fullest and brought joy to all who knew her.
