Ashton L. Shoemaker - November 02, 1999 - February 02, 2024

Departed: 02/02/2024 (Parker)
Obituary Preview: Ashton Lee Shoemaker, age 24, of Larkspur, CO, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024. She was born on November 2, 1999 in Denver Colorado, the daughter of Jennifer (Minard) and Mark Shoemaker.
Survivors include her parents; brother, Kalen Shoemaker; fiancé, PJ Ausmus; paternal grandmother, Valerie Shoemaker; maternal grandparents, Gary and Patricia Minard; aunts, Myndi Minard and Mary Shoemaker; great grandfather, Don Shoemaker; her prized fur babies, Yeti and Covey; niece, Charlotte Ausmus and the entire Ausmus Family. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Dennis Shoemaker.
Ashton has always been a true Colorado girl at heart. She was blessed to live in Arizona and Ohio while growing up, and still has lifelong friends from both, but was always happiest in Colorado. Ashton was born with the same beautiful blonde hair and smile that truly emulated everything she was. She was the best big sister who was protective and proud of her little brother Kalen every day. She was a daughter that filled the house with pure joy and embodied everything a parent would ever dream of. She was the pride and joy of her grandparents and aunts, and a fiercely loyal friend. Ashton was the most thoughtful person you would ever have the pleasure of knowing.
Ashton moved back to Parker Colorado in the 8th grade where she enjoyed her teenage years. She graduated with honors and many awards from Legend High School but enjoyed the simple, normal parts about school the most. She loved the Friday night football games, the school dances, and the friends that she made along the way. Ashton and PJ met while in the 8th grade and theirs is truly THE love story of all love stories. It is the Greatest Love Story this world has ever seen. After high school she made the choice to chase the Big Sky and graduated with honors from Montana State University in just 3 1/2 years. During her time in college, Ashton really came into herself. She found a home and lifelong friends in the Chi Omega sorority and this is where she truly found her voice through her studies and college life. If possible, she grew into an even more caring and thoughtful adult during her time in Montana. She never missed a college baseball game as she cheered on her favorite Yellowjacket and proudly wore that number 3 jersey.
After college, Ashton and PJ couldn’t wait to return to Colorado to start their life together. Ashton quickly got a job working in the Asset Management Department at Charles Schwab and she and PJ started building their life together at the Stone House Ranch, with their best friends living 50 steps from door to door. They proudly called it the “compound.” In October of 2022, Ashton and PJ got engaged, and it was truly one of her happiest days. Both families were finally going to be merged into one, and for Ashton, that was a dream come true. Over the last 16 months Ashton took on the role of “bride to be,” “wedding planner” and “professional organizer,” excelling at them all. If there was a task to be completed it always started with a neatly written list. Ashton and PJ were to be married on 02.24.24, and for them this was more than a date or a wedding, it was the formal acknowledgement of their once in a lifetime love story.
Ashton was simple and complex in every way. She lived for the inside joke. Ashton spent every day with the unwavering desire to make others feel special. Without any doubt, or a moment of hesitation, she was the person so many would rely upon for unique guidance, steadfast support, unrelenting laughs, and friendship like you had never felt before. She never sought the limelight, but rather she sought the moments of helping shine the limelight on others. Ashton embodied what it meant to truly be selfless. Everyone was welcome around her table. Ashton was a daughter, sister, best-friend, fiancé, granddaughter, niece, soon to officially be a daughter-in-law, and sister-in-law, and she will forever be Aunt Ashy. She was a proud American, and a damn proud dog mom. Ashton loved any adventure, challenge, or path she
could wander. She worked hard each day, and played even harder when the time was right. Above all else, Ashton was the most loving, caring, and kind tiny little blonde girl in the world. Her laugh was infectious, her smile was inviting and comforting. Ashton simply lit up every room she walked into. Her love was fierce, it knew no bounds, and it was unconditional in every way.
There are simply no words to describe the loss that has been forced upon the family by this unimaginable tragedy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 10:00am at Crossroads Community Church in Parker, Colorado.

Evelyn Refosco - March 05, 1947 - January 20, 2024

Departed: 01/20/2024 (Parker)

Evelyn was a truly extraordinary soul and left an enduring mark on everyone she met. Her soul a sunny strand woven into life's tapestry. Confronting the challenges of a spinal cord injury for over half her life, she embodied grace and determination, inspiring all who knew her.
Her life unfolded as a story of turning challenges into opportunities for others. A devoted mother, she extended boundless love beyond her own children, becoming a dedicated pillar of support. Evelyn's unique ability to transform difficulties into positive forces guided many others with disabilities towards happiness and success.
Evelyn won Ms. Wheelchair Colorado in 1993, a testament to her strength and resilience. Her impact extended to the disability community, serving on the director's board for CCHHR and NARHA, leaving an enduring legacy of support for therapeutic riding.
In her youth, she enjoyed racing cars and riding horses, echoing her zest for life. As an airline attendant, fate introduced her to Larry Refosco, with whom they would start a family. Together, they enjoyed restoring street rods and classic vehicles, along with taking their family on beautiful vacations to places like Lake Powell, and the Cayman Islands. Evelyn loved the sunshine and warmth, and a yellow rose was her flower of choice. She was a beautiful and caring soul to her family.
Her heart embraced not only people but also cherished companions—her horse, Babe, her husky, Akira, her Corgi, Corky, and even the neighbor’s dog, Scout. In their company, she found solace and joy. There were more days than not that she would have preferred spending her time at the Zoo. Even the wild animals seemed to prefer spending their time around her lovely house.
As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, the world feels dimmer without her. Yet, the memories and lessons she taught, in triumph and resilience, will keep Evelyn alive in our hearts.
Survivors include her sons, Cody (Lorilee) Raymond Refosco, and Michael Jerome Beeman; nephew, Bryce Beeman, and siblings, Ed Hunt, Debbie Hunt, and Tami Bird.

William Ball - December 17, 1926 - January 18, 2024

Departed: 01/18/2024 (Parker)
Obituary Preview: William John Ball December 17, 1926 – January 18, 2024
William John Ball was born on December 17, 1926 to William Henry Ball and Mabel Lintner Ball. He was raised in Hawley Pa, mostly an area of sweater mills and glass manufacturing. The town was hard hit by the depression but there was a lot of support and good times from the extended family nearby.
Bill was the oldest of four boys: Thomas, Robert, and Richard. All three brothers credit him with helping with school work, sports, etc. as his Dad was often working long hours, repairing appliances and doing jobs around town. There was also a fifth ‘brother’, cousin William Adams who was raised alongside the Ball Boys and an influential ‘older’ brother.
Bill excelled in High School and graduated right after D-Day in 1944 when he was 17. He immediately joined the Navy and was about to be deployed to the Pacific. However, “at the last minute” (his words) he was sent to Officer School at Bucknell College. He thus became the first member of his family to attend College. His three brothers followed his lead and graduated from college along with advanced degrees.
When the war was over, Bill transferred to Purdue University thanks to the GI Bill to continue his interest in engineering. There he met Harriet Jones who was from Washington DC. They were married on July 27, 1948 right after he graduated.
Bill’s first job was with Sylvania near Altoona, Pa. His 3 daughters were born there, Catherine, Carol and Joanne. From there, he was recruited to the consulting firm, Booz, Allen, and Hamilton in Cleveland, OH. His son, William Jr. was born in Cleveland. Right after his birth, he and Harriet took an assignment in Milan Italy and moved the entire family there for 10 months. It was there that Bill was introduced to wine and became a wine enthusiast well before the trend reached the US.
Bill embarked upon an interesting and successful corporate career which involved many re-locations: Kansas City, Toledo, Ohio, St. Cloud MN, and finally Stamford, CT where he was Executive Vice President with General Signal. He especially enjoyed his time at President of DeZurick in St. Cloud where he stayed for 10 years. His career included constant travel which he enjoyed and he encouraged Harriet to join him whenever possible: sales meetings in Florida and Hawaii, trips to Australia and New Zealand and more. He and Harriet made many lifetime friends in the company and community everywhere they went.
Bill retired from General Signal in 1986 when he was 58 years old. He and Harriet re-located to Hendersonville, NC where they golfed, attended the many cultural events and traveled the world – from many return trips to Italy and Europe, China, Patagonia, Antarctica, Vietnam, to name a few. They took 1 or 2 trips per year. They also became involved with the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Hendersonville, playing key roles in expanding the congregation from 30 to almost 200 at one time. Again, they made many like-minded friends and often enjoyed travels together.
Bill remained close to his family and friends all his life. Every year, they continued to visit Hawley to see the relatives and friends there. They kept lifelong friends: Harriet’s high school friends, former colleges, former neighbors, etc. – and arranged visits frequently.
In 2018, due to Harriet’s failing health, Bill and Harriet moved to a retirement community in Parker, Colorado – near the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Andy Cohen. Harriet passed away on May 28, 2018. After that, Bill enjoyed the close relationship, care and weekly dinners from Joanne and Andy. And, the many visits from family who would stop in Colorado to see him.
Bill led a life of hard work, kindness, decency and support of his family, colleagues and friends. He is the embodiment of the “Greatest Generation” He was a life time learner and constantly read and studied – particularly religion, philosophy and history. When his macular degeneration precluded reading, he continued to learn through DVD’s and The Great Learning Courses. He watched the news and golf, and he was never happier than when football or baseball season came along. He was a touchstone to his family in analyzing current events with historical perspective.
He lived the Unitarian Universalist principals (see below) and respected the many cultures and religions of the world and all of the people that he met. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, cousin, friend etc. He will live in many hearts and minds forever. His Loving Family The Unitarian Universalist Seven Principles 1. The inherent worth and dignity of every person; 2. Justice, equity and compassion in human relations; 3. Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations; 4. A free and responsible search for truth and meaning; 5. The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large; 6. The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
7. Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

Why are obituaries important?
