Obituary Preview: Robert Douglas Brunetti, Jr. 65, passed away April 11, 2024 after a long courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease while living at the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta.
He was the son of Nancy L. (Kokosh) of Bangor and Robert D. Brunetti, Sr. and stepmother Jean Brunetti of Portsmouth, RI.
Robert was known as Doug by his immediate family and others knew him as Robert or Bob.
He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 22, 1958. He grew up in Downeast Maine, attending Cutler Grammar School and graduated from Washington Academy High School. He then moved to Rhode Island to be closer to his father, where he made a lifelong friend, Catherine Huling.
Robert honorably served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany where he met and married his wife Elke. He served in the Gulf War. He and Elke moved back stateside and Melissa was born. After being honorably discharged, Robert decided to move his family from Copperas Cove, TX. back to Maine to be closer to his friends and family, rekindling friendships with those downeast, some of whom he continued to stay in touch with until his death.
Robert, Elke and Melissa settled in Waldoboro where they became part of the community and made wonderful friends. Robert worked for MDOT. He was so proud of his work, and the crew he worked with, always telling tales of the adventures fixing and maintaining the roads in Mid-coast Maine.

His good friend Keith Lane saw the need to try and lift his spirits, so he started sharing small repair jobs tinkering on mowers, etc. to keep his mind busy.
Elke tried so hard, with help of Keith's wife Esther, to take care of him and his needs, but the time came when he had to reside at The Maine Veterans Home in Augusta.
Robert made many new friends in short order, and his lifelong history of practical jokes followed him there and made everyone smile. He lived at the Veterans Home for 8 long years. Heaven has gained another angel.
