Rex Lee Wise - July 24, 1949 - February 04, 2024

Departed: 02/04/2024 (Plainville)
Obituary Preview: Rex Wise passed away peacefully at Redbud Village in Plainville, KS on February 4, 2024, at the age of 74. He was born on July 24, 1949, to Norman and Ietta Mae (Hrabe) Wise in Hays, Kansas.
Rex grew up in Plainville. As his little brother Fred recalls the story his mom told him, Rex was in grade school when mom was driving him to school one day. They had just turned off the highway towards the school when Rex yelled to stop, which she did. Rex bailed out of the car and ran toward a group of boys who were older and bigger than him. Apparently, they were picking on/punching a boy that was half their size and obviously weaker. Rex jumped right in the middle of them and went after the biggest guy who was the main antagonizer. It wasn’t long before the other boys decided they didn’t want any of what he had to offer and ran off leaving the bully. As soon as there was an opportunity, the big guy tucked tail and ran as well. Rex walked the kid to school so no one would bother him. From what mom said he watched over the younger boy after that, and the bullies left him alone. He was just that kind of guy, always caring for others. Rex was the Center on the Plainville High School Football Team and was the only Junior named to First Team of Mid-Continent League Football All Star Team as voted by his coaches of the league in 1965. He enjoyed football, motorcycles, and his family. At the age of 16 he was injured in a pickup truck/motorcycle accident which injured his brain and affected his left side. While in and out of Hadley Hospital, he was cared for by his parents in their Plainville home from 1966 until 1996. In the early 70’s volunteers from the community would come in to help Rex with Patterning therapy. Always wanting to help Rex, in 1978 his dad and mom took him to the Department of Neurologic Surgery at St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, NY to receive Deep Brain Stimulator/Transmitter which controlled his tremors. Rex lived in a Head Injury Group Home in Russell that Bob Dole had supported while in the U.S. Senate. Later, he was a client at DSNWK and then LINK both in Hays. But in 2000 he came home to Plainville, at Redbud Village. He loved it there where the caring staff was extended family, so much that he stayed for 24 years.
Survivors include his siblings, Joan (Jeff) McIntyre of Florence, AZ, Lonnie (Kathy) Wise of Russell, KS, Vickie (Jack) Ashbaugh of Hill City, KS, Pat (Alvin) Mills-Harbert of Warr Acres, OK and Fred (Val) Wise of Cheney, KS. Nieces and nephews John (Shauna) McIntyre, David McIntyre, Lanelle (Steve) Baily, Carey Wise, Stephanie Beran, Todd Ashbaugh, Brad (Tawny) Ashbaugh, Michelle (Terry) Dohrwardt, Kimberly Mills, Rachael (Chris) Williams, Andrew (Kelsea) Mills, Alex Wise, Brian (Keri) Niemann, Jennifer (Rodney) Elliott and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Ietta Wise, Grandparents Fred and Amy Wise, James and Goldie Hrabe of Plainville. Aunts, Wilma Reed, Daisy Stagner, Creta Hilgers and Agnes Hrabe. Uncles Alfred Reed, Shorty Stagner, Hallas Hrabe and Jake Hrabe. Brother-in-law Mike Mills, nephew Michael Andrew Mills of Oklahoma.

She graduated in 1949 as Salutatorian from Plainville High School.
After High School, Phyllis worked at Stephenson’s where she sold fabric and clothing. She was also the bookkeeper for Prickett Tank Service. She enjoyed sewing and her skills lead her to become a seamstress. She altered many articles of clothing for people including many of the high school cheerleader uniforms, formal dresses, and many bridal dresses, including alterations for Green’s Bridal. She made the most beautiful clothes for herself, her daughters, and her grandchildren.
She was an active member of the First Christian Church where she volunteered countless hours playing the organ (from 1947 until October 15, 2023), teaching Sunday School, directing and writing musicals, Christmas programs, reenacting Bible skits at Vacation Bible School and helping with Dorcus Club. She devoted her entire life to serving others and the Lord.
Phyllis was an avid gardener. She had the most beautiful flower gardens with endless tulips. She graced the church with huge bouquets many Sundays from her flower garden.

Richard Duane Finnesy - June 10, 1935 - November 24, 2023

Departed: 11/24/2023 (Plainville)
Obituary Preview: Richard Duane Finnesy, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away at Hays Medical Center on November 24th, 2023, at the age of 88. He was born on June 10, 1935, the second son of Harold and Eleanor (Schrandt) Finnesy in rural Rooks County, KS. Born into a life of hard work on the family farm, Richards journey began after school to dedicate himself to the family farm. Unfazed by adversity, he weathered the trials and difficulties with unwavering determination.
He married Shirley Mason on July 31, 1953. They were blessed with two children: Dee and Tom. Marriage brought new chapters, leading Richard to the oil fields where he toiled tirelessly for years. He later reclaimed the Finnesy family farm, embracing his roots as a dedicated farmer with a passion for cultivating the land and tending to his livestock. He confronted the challenges of farm life with a fortitude that defined him.
Richard was a member of the Plainville United Methodist Church. His commitment to his faith, love and service to his family, friends and community knew no bounds. He found solace and contentment in the simplicity of being outdoors. His later years were marked by a daily ritual, as he would drive to the farm, checking on the land he nurtured and loved. His connection with nature and his work defined the tapestry of his life.
Beyond the fields, Richard was a remarkable grandfather - a source of wisdom, laughter and, some might say, a touch of ornery charm. He proudly supported his grandchildren, and taught them by his daily example that a dream does not become reality without hard work, determination and the help of our Lord.
Richards legacy is one of resilience, perseverance, and the enduring spirit of the American heartland. His life, marked by a strong work ethic and love for the land, leaves an indelible mark on those who knew him. May he find eternal peace, surrounded by the fields he tended, the love he shared with his family and the memories he leaves behind.
