Des, known by many, graduated from Doss High School in 2018 and attended Jefferson Community College.  Des worked for Humana as a customer care associate and was a former assistant manager at Captain D's Restaurant.
Des was kind and loyal and always willing to help others.  In elementary school, she even helped a friend with the words on the spelling test.  Des was very protective of her loved ones (now she could go at her cousins, but no one else could).  Always laughing and joking, Destiny had a smile no matter what.

John Michael Brown - May 21, 1949 - January 12, 2024

Obituary Preview: John Michael Brown, affectionately known as “J. Michael”, was born on May 21, 1949, in Bronx, New York to the union of John Sylvester Brown and the former Cora Lewis. He attended schools in Bronx County, graduating from Bronx High School of Science in 1966. J. Michael obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the City College of New York and later earned his law degree from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.
J. Michael served as a paratrooper and infantry officer with the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He later attended flight school and piloted helicopters until concluding his military career as US Army Captain with the 101st Division in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. J. Michael’s military accolades are numerous, including the Army Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Army Aviator Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, and National Defense Service Medal.
After a devoted career in military service, J. Michael practiced law in various areas including labor and employment, airport and aviation law, administrative law, entertainment, and commercial litigation. J. Michael also served as a partner at law firms such as Gittleman & Barber, Stites and Harbison and Wyatt, Tarrant and Combs. Most recently, he served as Director of Pre-Law and Constitutional Studies at Simmons College of Kentucky.
J. Michael was a man of Justice, and his contributions were many. He was the first African American named as Secretary of the Kentucky State Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, Deputy Attorney General, and Assistant Commonwealth Attorney, 30th Judicial District. He was also the first African American President of the Louisville Bar Association. J. Michael’s leadership on boards such as the Criminal Justice Association, Kentucky State Board of Elections, Louisville Arena Authority, Regional Airport Authority, West End Opportunity Partnership, and many others helped to advance Louisville, Jefferson County and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He will always be remembered for his work representing indigent defenders in Kentucky.
J. Michael was also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
To celebrate his life and legacy, J. Michael leaves his wife, Joan Elizabeth Brown; three sons: William Brown, J. Michael Brown, Jr. (Nicole) and Matthew Brown; two granddaughters: Javarra Richardson and Sidney Brown; his brother-in-law Robert White and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Obituary Preview: -BELOVED NEPHEW, COUSIN AND FRIEND-
A quiet and resilient baby boy was born on December 2, 1958. His mother named him “Calvet T.” and his family fondly called him “Hump”. He had his grandfather’s quiet demeanor and was a true friend to those who knew him. He remained gentle and humble, yet resilient, even in difficult times of sickness and constant hospital stays. He never complained.
Calvet fought courageously every day, but His Creator knew his worn out frame was tired, and his soul longed for its true home. God once again extended mercy and grace, comforted his soul with love and gently granted him rest on October 26, 2023. Although saddened and grieving, his loved ones are secure in knowledge that he knew the Lord and is resting from sickness, pain and the troubles of this world, and is now at peace. His death does not diminish the precious memories that will forever be remembered in the hearts of all those who knew him.
Calvet’s mother Louise Watkins Anderson-Mitchell, his father Aubrey Lee Walker and grandfather, George “Booker T.” Watkins, all preceded him in death.
He will be dearly missed and remain in the hearts of his beloved Aunt, Sallie Watkins Powell (Stanton, TN); Cousins who were like his siblings, Gwendolyn (Melvin) Douglas, Carl Lee (Mary) Watkins, Wendell (Alma) Watkins all of Brownsville, TN and Daphne (Ricky) Nelson (Jackson, TN); a Special Cousin who was like a niece, Nakesia Douglas (Jackson, TN); Special Friend Jacqueline Brown and Best Friend, Monty Trabue (Louisville, KY); Step-sisters, Jimmie Reed, Michelle Spencer and Ruth Ann Spencer and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends who will celebrate his life and cherish his memories.

Besides his parents, Edward is preceded in death by his sister, Regina F. Miles and wife, Betty Brown.

Jean is preceded in death by her father and mother, Wash and Arlea West; husband, Gerald Reed, Sr.; Sisters, Brenda Tyus and Delores Gee; and son Adrian Reed.
Jean was a fun-loving person. Known for her quiet and so􏰂-spoken nature. She had a kind and loving heart, always ready to lend a helping hand to others. Jean's children, Gerald (Scobie), 􏰀omas, Wesley, and daughter, Arlea, will forever cherish the memories they shared with their mother. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Lewis, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Jean's presence will be deeply missed by her loved ones and all those whose lives she touched. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Memorial service will be Saturday, September 23 at God’s Will Christian Fellowship Church, 3109 Thomas Lane, 40299 at 12pm.

Besides her mothers and sons, Ree Ree leaves to cherish her memory three sisters: Alishia, AudrieAnna, and Aliayah; three brothers: Kayvon, Julius, and James; her grandmother, Audrey Hubbard, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Jannie Lou Washington - August 17, 1953 - June 20, 2023

Obituary Preview: Jannie L. Washington passed away peacefully on June 20, 2023, after a brief illness. She was 69 years old.
Jannie was born August 17, 1953, to Rosa Lee Williams and James Garrett in Celina, Tennessee. She moved away to Maryland for school. While pursuing her education, she met her husband, the late Albert “Sunny” Washington. They later married and moved to Louisville, KY. Jannie and Sunny began to build a life in Louisville and, not soon after started to expand their family.
Jannie continued her education with an internship, temporarily working in a pediatric office. Her passion for the medical field led her in many directions. She taught students enrolled in the medical assistant and phlebotomy programs at JCTC for over 30 years. She taught CPR outside of the classroom as well. Her reputation in the medical field was exceptional.
Jannie was a jack of all trades, from making quilts and pillows to building porches. You name it, she could do it! She was well known by many for her famous pancakes, and her green beans were always a favorite.
Jannie loved all of her family far and wide. She loved to travel back to her hometown, Celina, Tennessee, to spend time with loved ones. After retirement, Jannie hoped to eventually move back to Celina permanently, to enjoy the peaceful living environment.
Jannie was the proud mother of 4 children and grandmother to 13 grandchildren. She treasured every moment of her role as a grandmother, so much so that she has taken in extra children along the way and showered them with love and affection.
Jannie is survived by her children, Heather, Michael, Adam, Allyson, and her son-in-law Kenneth (KJ). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jervay, Brandon, Mia, Sydney, Jasmynn, Madyson, Rhylee, Kedryn, Ayden, Jerimiah, Saniyah, Kamdyn, and Izaiah. Jannie also leaves behind her brothers and sisters, Dan, Bob, Vinceson, Patrice, Marla, and her best friend Greta Williams. Not to forget a host of relatives and friends surrounding her with love.
Jannie will be missed by all, but God needed her more.

Jamir attended Jefferson County Public Schools and left a lasting impression on students and teachers at Wheeler Elementary School. He loved karate, dancing, marvel comics, especially Spider-Man, funyuns potato chips and being a big brother to Jasiah. Whenever you encountered Jamir, he had a great big smile to give you. Despite his chronic asthma, he was active, loving, and charming.
Jamir often attended Christ’s Church for Our Community with his grandmother, Sylvia Parker, where he loved to sing, clap his hands, and join the Praise Team in the song “Every Praise Is to Our God”. You could hear him in the sanctuary belting out the lyrics in a loud, happy voice – Jamir loved to praise the Lord.
In 2020, Jamir suffered a tragedy, but with unwavering love and support from his family, defeated all odds and began a long road to recovery. Jamir was a fighter. His zeal for life kept him going until the Lord saw fit to bring him home. Jamir is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Brenda McCray.

He departed this life on April 28, 2023, leaving behind his mother Valeria Webster; six children: Deasia Shoulders-Webster, Natalia Webster, Demetrius Webster, Trevaughn Webster, Aryuanna Webster, and Nathaniel Webster; two sisters: Lucretia Webster and Shavon Browning; six nieces, three nephews and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Nathaniel attended Waggener High School before obtaining his G.E.D in 1995. Nathaniel was a great father, provider, loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He was the epitome of what a man truly is. His loyalty stood next to none. He enjoyed spending time with his children and family. He loved to dress to impress, laugh, joke, ride while blasting music, watch documentaries, sports, and most of all being our family protector.

She graduated from Louisville Central High School and in her younger days, Millie loved to travel and entertain close friends. She married Alfred Young and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Millie then moved back to Louisville where she reunited with her first love, Horace Woods.
Millie loved God and was a member of Riverside Church in Clarksville Tennessee, until she took ill and moved back to Louisville. She loved to fish, read her bible, or work in her crossword puzzle books. Millie spent her life dedicated to helping others; by working as a CNA, she was able to achieve that goal. Millie was also an active member of the Eastern Stars (Mary Lyles Chapter) until she was no longer able to participate.
Besides her parents, Millie is preceded in death by her husband, Horace Woods; daughter: Mary Frances Woolfolk; siblings: Janella, Dorothy Lee, Edward, Charles and Walter; and grandson Cornell Warren.
Millie leaves to celebrate her life her children: Carolyn Louise Dinwiddie (Grover), David Charles "Jody" Young (Karen), Alfred Conway Young, Stewart Roy Young, Anna Margaret Mitchell (Fred) and Billy Woods; grandchildren: Antionette Grant, Barbara Dinwiddie, Christopher Dinwiddie, Dennis Dinwiddie, Alana Young, Tyanna Hunter, Rodriguez Montgomery, Donte Montgomery, Amanda Young, Carolyn Evelyn, Jeffrey Young, Jamaal Young, Sylvia Douglas, Tavonda Pendleton and Christopher Evans; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
