Fredric Tisdell - November 24, 1942 - July 01, 2022

Departed: 07/01/2022 (Manteca)
Obituary Preview: Born in Potsdam, New York, Fredric Laurence Tisdell passed away peacefully in his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Known as Fred, Mr. Fred, and Grandpa Fred, he lived for his family. Whether it was riding along with his eldest son, Ross, on patrol with the Oakland Police Department or running extension cords to the outfield fence to film his youngest son, Eric, playing baseball, Fred was happiest watching his sons thrive.
He also never knew an idle day. Fred retired from Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) after 33 years, retired from New Haven Unified School District after 8 years, worked at Winn-Dixie, and then a landscaping company until he was 78 years old. He would be the first to volunteer to climb on top of a roof to hang Christmas lights or mow the lawn wearing layers of sweats under his jeans and a button-down flannel shirt.
Fred loved to travel via train to New York to visit his sister and brother and then to California to visit his son, Ross, and family. Rarely meeting a stranger, he frequently made lifelong friends on these trips with whom he continued to correspond. If you were fortunate enough to visit Fred’s home, you would see he treasured and displayed every memory from photographs, golf score sheets, greeting cards, and football game tickets to grandchildren’s drawings and Thanksgiving dinner place cards. And, let’s not forget about the scratchers and lottery tickets. Did someone say, “Bingo!”?
An extroverted introvert, Fred was an observer. But, put on some music and give him a dance floor, and he turned into Fred Astaire effortlessly guiding his partner cheek-to-cheek. His favorite dance partner, by far, was Sandy, who was the mother of his two treasured sons. Although they divorced many years ago, Fred always considered her the love of his life.
Preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick Ross Tisdell and Clara Mae Tisdell, Fred is survived by his brother William Tisdell (Pat); sister Mary Anne Meyers; son Ross Tisdell (Shauntel); son Eric Tisdell (Jackie); grandchildren Aurea Tisdell, Ross Tisdell, Jr., Delicia Higares, Justin Tisdell, Jackson Tisdell, Brandon Tisdell, and Max Tisdell; and great-granddaughter Naiya.

She worked in the parish office of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Manteca, where she became a parishioner in 1959. She then worked as a bilingual educator at Yosemite Elementary in the Manteca Unified School District before retiring with the San Joaquin Office of Education.
Unwavering in her Catholic faith, Mary Lou was committed to her ministry of visiting the sick and elderly in their homes and hospitals with the Legion of Mary for over 20 years. She actively served her parish community with decades of harvest festival volunteering, cooking for the priests, mending liturgical vestments, participating in choir, and serving as a Eucharistic minister. What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, typically including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and legacy.

How do I handle sensitive or private information in an obituary?

Be respectful and considerate when sharing information about the deceased. If there are sensitive or private matters that should not be disclosed publicly, it's best to omit them or discuss them with family members before including them in the obituary.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial funds in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and support a worthy cause.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication or platform. Some may publish immediately upon receipt, while others may have a delay of several days or even weeks.

Can I edit or revise an obituary after it's been published?

In some cases, yes. Check with the publication or platform to see if they allow revisions or corrections. However, once an obituary is published online, it may be difficult to make changes.

How do I find archived obituaries from past years?

You can search online archives of newspapers or websites that specialize in storing historical records. Many libraries also maintain archives of local newspapers that can be accessed for research purposes.

Can I share an obituary on social media?

Absolutely! Sharing an obituary on social media can help spread the word quickly and reach a wider audience. Many online platforms also allow you to share links to published obituaries.

What is the purpose of an online guestbook or condolence message?

An online guestbook or condolence message allows friends and family to express their sympathy and share memories of the deceased. These messages can provide comfort and support to grieving loved ones.

Can I include quotes, poems, or lyrics in an obituary?

Yes! Including meaningful quotes, poems, or song lyrics can add depth and personality to an obituary. Just be sure to obtain necessary permissions or credits if using copyrighted material.

How do I ensure accuracy when writing an obituary?

What is the role of an obituary in the grieving process?

An obituary serves as a way to acknowledge and process grief, providing a sense of closure and finality. It can also help facilitate communication among friends and family during a difficult time.

Can I create a video tribute or slideshow as part of an online obituary?

The duration for which an online obituary remains available varies depending on the platform or website. Some may keep archives indefinitely, while others may remove them after a certain period.

Can I request corrections or updates to an existing online obituary?

Contact the website administrator or customer support team responsible for maintaining the online archive. They can assist with making corrections or updates as needed.

What is the significance of including funeral service details in an obituary?
