William "DUB" Rutledge - June 26, 1954 - April 28, 2018

Departed: 04/28/2018 (Warrenville)
Obituary Preview: William C. Rutledge, affectionately known as “Dub,” passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, April 28th. Dub, age 63 of Warrenville will be remembered for his love for his wife, Sheila, their children Eric and Brenna, his dogs, Buddy & Otis, who stayed by his side and several other faithful canines.  Although he was a Cardinals fan when he met Sheila he was quickly brought over to the light of being a Cubs fan and was rewarded with the 2016 CUBS World Series win.
He was born on June 26th, 1954 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to Helen and Jack, and spent a good part of his youth traveling with his family, as his father Jack worked on oil rigs. They ultimately settled in California where he grew up with his older brother Dan.
“Dub” and Sheila (nee Cahill) were married on September 1, 1984; he was enthusiastically accepted into the extended Cahill family. Early in their marriage they moved several times but most of their 33 years of marriage were spent in Warrenville where they raised their children, Eric and Brenna and became a part of the community. During Eric and Brenna’s school years he was a baseball coach, and served on the WWHS Tiger Marching Band as well as volunteering with the Show Choir for their elaborate competitions.
His work life was that of a great salesman building relationships to close the deal.  In the last few years as his corporate career came to an end the couple started a real estate investing company, Advanced Property Solutions which was a perfect fit for someone with a tradesman like skill set for home improvement projects.  His sales career was an asset for the negotiations that new projects required.
He loved to dance, garden and sing (even if he didn’t know the words) and was a loyal Cubs fan.  One of the best moments of his life was seeing the Cubs WIN Game 5 of the World Series at his beloved Wrigley Field.
His medical challenges were many and well known to his family and friends. In 2011 he received the “Gift of Hope” (and LOVE) from his own son Eric in the form of a liver transplant. His challenges continued every couple years that included a hip replacement on April 23rd.  He collapsed suddenly at home on Saturday; although medical personnel arrived quickly they could not revive him.  Sheila and Dub’s friend Linda Mazurek, now considered family, was at his side.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila, his son Eric and daughter Brenna, and his older brother Dan (Pat Smith).  He was preceded in death by his parents. Dub lived a rich life and will be remembered fondly by the entire Cahill Family and many friends.
A Memorial Visitation will take place on Sunday May 6th, 2018 at Courtyard Banquets, 3S200 IL-59, Warrenville, IL 60555 from 1:00–3:00 PM, with Prayer Service at 2:30 PM. A private family dinner will take place at 3:30 PM.
