Obituary Preview: Della Jean Hillman, age 91 a long-time resident of Romeo, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 19, 2023 in Shelby Township. She was born January 26, 1932 the daughter of John & Hilda Schade in Armada. Della graduated from Armada High School and attended Cleary University in Detroit. Later in life she went on to get a degree from Oakland University. Della was a life member of St. John Lutheran Church in Romeo. She worked as a secretary for Dr. Markey in Romeo for several years. Della was a talented homemaker and enjoyed entering her creations in the Armada Fair Exhibits and won numerous ribbons over the years.
Della was a proud mother of Gregory (Cheryl) Hillman of Clinton Twp. and Timothy (Nancy) Hillman of Macomb. She enjoyed her grandchildren: Chelsea (Taylor), Alexander (Lauren), Heather (Lonnie) and Scott and great-grandchildren: Landyn and Madison. She is preceded in death by her husband Theodore “Ted” Hillman, her brother Donald and by her parents. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 1:30pm with Visitation from 1:00pm – 1:30pm all at Muir Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, 296 S. Main St.-Romeo, MI 48065. Barbara Ann Barton - May 23, 1940 - December 23, 2022

Obituary Preview: Barbara Ann Barton, age 82, passed away December 22, 2022. She was born May 23, 1940, the daughter of Edward and Agnes (McNamara) Peckinpaugh. She graduated from Waterford High School. She married her beloved husband Douglas Borton on December 12, 1975. Barbara was a member of the Eagles Club and Pet Rescue. She was known as a good cook. Most of all she was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She shall be missed by many.
She is survived by her children Edward Quintal of Oak Park, Steve Quintal of Bloomfield Hills, Brian Quintal of Texas; beloved grandchildren Angela (Bob) Horton, David (Natalie) Quintal, Whitney (Mike) Larkin, Edward Quintal Jr.; David Quintal, Ashton Quintal, Alexandra Quintal, Amanda (Mike) Pinson, Brianna Quintal, Nicholas White; great grandchildren Brandon Horton, Mackenzie Horton, Veronica Larkin, Viviana Larkin, Michael Larkin, Colt Quintal, Blake Pinson and Lexi Pinson. Also surviving sister Kaye Takatsu. She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas, sons David and Scott and brother Edward.

Obituary Preview: Bonnie J. Wolfbauer, age 77 passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 22, 1944 in New Baltimore, the daughter of Robert and Virginia (Hendy) Boyd. She graduated from Anchor Bay High School. Bonnie married her beloved husband Robert J. Wolfbauer on June 23, 1983 and has 6 children, 10 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. She was a member of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church. She was an avid Church Pantry Volunteer, McCrest Volunteer, an amazing seamstress, beautiful interior decorator and loved playing computer, board and casino games. She loved people, and provided food, shelter, housing to them on a daily basis. In addition Bonnie was an amazing Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She loved spending time with her friends and spent time at her cottage in Glennie Michigan. Bonnie loved spending time with her family however the most important person she loved and cherished was her husband Robert Wolfbauer; They shared love for 40 years. She touched a lot of lives and she is already missed.
She is survived by her beloved husband Robert of Bruce Twp., loving children Jeff Matthews of St. Clair Shores, Steve Matthews of Scottsdale, Arizona, Monica (Patrick) McDermott of Troy, Michigan, Alexandria (Blair) O’Connor of Bonita Springs, Florida, Christine (Mark deceased) Metzger of Auburn Hills, Michigan, Teresa (Mario) Cervi of Ontario, Canada.
Grandchildren: Rachel (Paul) Mardegan of Ontario, Canada, Brian (Michelle) Bush of Macomb, Alexandra (Ryan) Muzzin of Ontario, Canada, Megan (Abby Ryan) Bauer of Kalamazoo, Jordyn Cervi (Tim Boughner) of Ontario, Canada, Nicholas Palombo of St. Pete, Florida, Cole (Allison Smolinski) Busselle of Troy; great grandchildren Ava, Mila, Nora, Evyn, Elio, Emersyn, Wyatt, and Darynne. She was preceded in death by son in law Greg Wilson ( deceased), Grandsons Darren Bush (deceased), Aaron Bush (deceased) Ryan Cervi (deceased).

Obituary Preview: Helen Louise Edmond, age 74 of Riley, MI, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022 unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep. She was born December 6, 1947 in Wyandotte, the daughter of Charles and Barbara (Riley) Schroder. She resided in Dearborn for her formative years and young adulthood. Shortly after she graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Dearborn, she married David Dmytro and resided in Germany as he was in the Armed Services. A few years after Helen divorced; she fell in love with and married Douglas Edmond on August 1, 1975 in Dearborn Heights. She raised five children then later attended Lapeer School of Massage Therapy becoming a certified massage therapist. She enjoyed traveling the United States with her husband in their RV to such places as the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, the Eastern Coast Line and Duluth, MN (the home of Dr. Schroder, her Grandfather). Throughout her lifetime she vacationed at a family owned home at Houghton Lake, which was a source of much enjoyment. Helen relaxed by watching television shows, specifically, Big Bang Theory, and Two and a Half Men. She was fascinated by the paranormal, Ghost Hunters programs, and fulfilled a lifelong desire by visiting Lizzy Borden’s House. Helen had intuitive wisdom, a sharp wit, and a sarcastic sense of humor that amused those around her. She had a passion for Christ, Biblical scriptures that she shared with her loved ones. In her later days she reminisced as she browsed through old photos of her family which led to sharing loving memories of her younger years.
Helen leaves her loving husband Douglas Edmond of Riley, her children: Carianne (Dave) Kreymborg of Shelton Connecticut, Shanen (Tom) Mailloux of Capac, Debbie Dmytro (Niral Shah) of Beverly Hills, Jennifer Edmond (Steve Bugbee) of Warren, Douglas (Andrea) Edmond of Riley; beloved grandchildren Matthew Edmond, Katie Mailloux, Noah (Megan) Mailloux, AnnMarie Mailloux (Austin Harvey), Ryan Karpus, Gabriella Dmytro, Graham Zielinski, Elizabeth Powers; loving great grandchildren Matthew Edmond Jr., and Sawyer Rose Mailloux. Her surviving siblings are Karen (John) Dluge, Beau Schroder, and Frederick Schroder, nephew Joe (Erika) Ali, nieces Christy and Andrea (Whitney) Ali. She is preceded in death by her parents, C. R. and Barbara Schroder, her siblings, Charles Schroder and Debbie Brandt, her nephew Steve Dluge, and her granddaughter Allyson Karpus.

Obituary Preview: Scott J. Trustman, age 47 of Detroit and formerly of Saint Clair Shores and New Baltimore passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022 in Detroit. He was born May 30, 1974 the son of Robert H. and JoAnna (Doherty) Trustman in Warren. Scott graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in Marine City and began working in the electrical trade. He joined the IBEW Local Union 58 and worked for Centerline Electric. Scott lived in Saint Clair Shores for a period and moved into Detroit where he’s lived for the last 17 years. He enjoyed the city but also enjoyed visiting his family cottage in Port Austin where he liked the water and boating. He met the love of his life, Karimah Brown and they were married in 2020 in Flint. Scott liked to cook and really enjoyed grilling and smoking foods. He was a hard worker and even at home he was always doing chores, fixing things and improving his environment.
Scott is survived by his mother JoAnna Trustman of Romeo, his brother Bob (Suzanne Paisley) Trustman of Ann Arbor and his Pitbull RunDMC, Godparents Jim and Joanne Grant and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Scott is predeceased by his wife Karimah Trustman, father Robert H. Trustman, his grandparents: Louis & Madeline Doherty, Nathan & Jennie Trustman and uncle Kenny Trustman. He was born April 19, 1950 the son of Orland “Buck” J and Agnes Frances (Fauble) Shagene in Detroit. Larry is a graduate of the class of 1968 at Romeo High School. He was a retired employee of Ford Motor Company's Utica Trim Plant and a UAW Local 400 member. Larry met and married Sandra Lee Ingham in 1986. Larry enjoyed the outdoors whether biking, camping, boating and fishing. He liked to travel with his wife to their home in Florida. Larry loved spending time with his family tubing and waterskiing from their boat.
He is survived by his children: Jason (Jorge Cabrera) Ingham of Chicago, Lisa (James) Caygill of Washington and Sherrie (Melissa Brown) Ingham of West Bloomfield and three grandchildren: Joshua Caygill, Rockwell Ingham and Broderick Ingham. He is preceded in death by his wife Sandra Shagene, his son Brett J Shagene and his parents Buck & Agnes Shagene. Services were private. Jerry McLeod - August 24, 1947 - April 30, 2022

Obituary Preview: Jerry “Gerald” McLeod, age 74, a life-long resident of Romeo, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022 with his wife and family at his side. He was born August 24, 1947, the son of Donald and Helen (Anderson) McLeod in Pontiac. Jerry graduated from Romeo High School in 1965, where he met his high school sweetheart, future wife and mother to his two children, Linda (Stone). Jerry and Linda married in 1969 in Mount Clemens and eventually returned home to Romeo, where they raised daughter Tiffany and son Chris.
Jerry spent his entire 40-year career at General Motors Truck and Bus Division as a design engineer. When not working, Jerry enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He had numerous hobbies, all of which were self-taught. He created beautiful stained-glass windows, tended to the family’s extensive landscape and gardens, and crafted remarkable works with wood.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Linda McLeod, son Chris (Cobi) McLeod of Romeo and daughter Tiffany (Jay Lyon) McLeod of Chicago, 8-year-old grandson Maxwell, and sisters Patricia Beatham and Gloria Shekoski, brother Bill (Mary Ann), and brother-in-law Dick Smiles. He is preceded in death by his sister, Lila Smiles, and brother-in-laws Bob Beatham and Robert Stone.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Muir Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, 296 S. Main St., Romeo, MI 48065. William August Schaufler - September 29, 1935 - January 25, 2022

Obituary Preview: William “Bill” August Schaufler, age 86, a long time Romeo resident passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022 surrounded by his family at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mt. Clemens. He was born September 29, 1935, the son of William & Helen (Temerowski) Schaufler, in Detroit. Bill lived with his family in Tampa, Florida until they moved to Romeo in 1949. He graduated from Romeo High School in 1953. Bill worked at Michigan Rivet in various roles of production and supervision. He met the love of his life, Mary Ann Andary, when they stood up in a wedding together. They were married on May 28, 1960 at St. Ambrose Church in Grosse Pointe. Bill was an active and dedicated member of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, proudly serving as usher for Saturday Mass.
Bill enjoyed his family farm at 36 Mile Road and Van Dyke. He had a strong work ethic and remained active, even as age started to slow him down. He was proud of the 1953 Ford Jubilee tractor that he bought when he graduated high school. He was an avid gardener and loved being outdoors and the warmth of the sun. Bill listened to country & western music, watched western films and enjoyed Elvis, with whom he was proud to share the same birth year. He liked watching any Michigan sports team. Bill was knowledgeable about cars and trucks and was able to name makes, models and years. He was very fond of and proud to be from Romeo having a great memory for its history and the folks in the community. A meal shared between family and friends brought him such joy.
Bill was a kind soul. He never met a stranger. When it came to the needs of others, he was always willing to help. Family and friends were most important to Bill, whether raising his four children, helping his grandchildren or socializing over a cup of coffee and a slice of pie; Bill always had time to listen.
Bill leaves his loving wife Mary Ann of Washington Township, his 4 children: William Schaufler of Bruce Township, John (Melanie) Schaufler of Port Charlotte, Florida, Anne Marie (Steve) Hideg of Summerfield, Florida and Jody DeSmit of Chesterfield. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Justin Schaufler, Adam Schaufler, Tyler Cupp, Blake DeSmit, Chelsea Schaufler, Jada DeSmit and Ally Schaufler. Bill was predeceased by his parents.

Anita lived in Warren for a number of years and then moved to Armada to start her family and raised her four children. She enjoyed nature and all the flowers in it. Most of all Anita loved her family and enjoyed their time together.

Michael "Mike" Thomas Gardini - May 23, 1978 - August 14, 2021

Obituary Preview: Michael “Mike” Thomas Gardini, SFC, Retired, age 43 of Shelby Township passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021 in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born May 23, 1978 the son of Jim & Dee (Anderson) Gardini in Waterbury, Connecticut. Mike finished at Utica High School. The Military was a big part of his life. Mike served in the U.S Army for nearly 18 years. He was in the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Screaming Eagles and he served in the 1st Infantry Division, nicknamed "The Fighting First" or "The Big Red One" in Iraq. While in the Army he took college courses for his Degree in Management. When Mike returned from serving, he adopted a PTSD therapy dog named Juggs and they were very close.
After serving Mike started working at the Social Security Administration in Inkster. He was great in management and he quickly improved productivity in the office.
Masonry was also a big part of Mike’s life. He joined Utica-Macomb Lodge #64 F&AM in 2007. He joined the Long Cane Lodge #424 F&AM in LaGrange, Georgia where he served as Past Master twice. Mike also joined Romeo Lodge # 41 F&AM. He joined Scottish Rite in Georgia, SMJ receiving his 32nd degree and also joined the Detroit Moslem Shrine. Mike continued his path in Masonry by joining Romeo Chapter #17, RAM. Mike loved Masonry and the way it brought good men together in brotherhood.
Mike liked to collect things. He was always up for a flea market, auction or estate sale. He liked motorcycles, military and Masonic items in particular. But he also collected more than 200 beer taps from all over the world. He also enjoyed Egyptian style art and artifacts, decorating his dining room in that style.
Friends were very important to Mike, in the military, at work in Masonry and in leisure. Family was the most important to him, especially his four children. They meant the world to him.
Mike is survived by his loving children, Jillian Dykstra of Iowa, Mikey Gardini of Shelby, Tommy Gardini of Shelby and Emily Gardini of Tennessee. He is also survived by his parents Jim & Dee Gardini of Shelby, his brother Jimmy (Tara Black) Gardini, Jr. of Shelby and his sister Melissa (Jay) Vasseur of Shelby and his nephew Jimmy Gardini, III and niece Jazmine Delbeke both of Shelby. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Tony & Rose Gardini and Madelaine & Eric Anderson and by his dog Juggs.

Billy was born March 30, 1951 the son of Woodward & Geneva (Hall) Brooks senior in Mount Clemens. After high school Billy served four years in the United States Army. He was a roofer by trade and a salesman because he could sell anything. To know Billy was to truly love him. He didn’t know a stranger. He was for certain; One of a kind and he will definitely be missed by all that knew him. He just touched so many lives. Rest in peace Billy, till we see each other again! I love you brother!
Billy is survived by sons Jeremy Brooks of Indiana and Billy J Brooks Jr. of North Carolina. He is also survived by two sisters Martha Sue Morrison of Indiana and Brenda Brooks of Clinton Township, his friend and former wife Pamela (Moorefield) Brooks, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews that love him dearly and by his very best friend Tom Ashton. Billy also leaves behind several small dogs who are probably wondering where their "Daddy" is... He was born May 10, 1958 the son of Dominic & Iris (Woolsey) Catanzaro in Detroit. Mike Graduated from Troy Athens High School. After High School Mike began working in the building trades. Mike started his own building company North American Hospitality, Inc. specializing in complete hotel renovations, completing projects all over North America. He met Michelle Berant in High School and they were married April 7, 1991 in Rochester Hills.
Mike enjoyed collecting including swords, knives and pocket watches. He enjoyed studying history. Mike joined Romeo Lodge #41 F&AM and became a Master Mason in 2013 and worked his way through offices serving as Master of the Lodge in 2018. Mike became a plural member of Utica-Macomb Lodge # 64 F&AM in 2018. Mike continued his path in Masonry by joining Romeo Chapter #17, RAM, the Valley of Detroit Scottish Rite, NMJ receiving his 32nd degree. Most recently Mike joined Port Huron Commandery #7, KT. Most of all Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is also survived by four grandchildren, Sophia, Emma, Chloe and Luna and two sisters, Crystal (Robert) Duperry of Florida and Antoinette Easthope of Troy and nieces and nephews. Melody worked as a social worker in Macomb County for over 20 years. She worked hand in hand with the D.A.R.E. program, lead Christmas with Santa and his elves for the needy children in her community, volunteered endless hours in numerous charities, as well as launching the “The Friendship Group”. Her artistic abilities ranged from an Artist, Seamstress, to being pursued by a Detroit record label. Melody’s creative abilities didn’t stop there as she learned professional cake decorating and candy making. She was the assistant coach for the Soccett’s soccer team, winning numerous championships alongside her husband. Melody made all the holidays special but Christmas the most magical of all. For Melody her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the love of her life and spending every available moment with her family and friends. She will be most remembered for having an open door to everyone with an extra dinner plate and will be missed greatly by all

He was born December 20, 1947, the son of Hershel, Sr. and Minnie (Rowe) Cushingberry of Romeo. Since a very young age, Huck was a member of the 2nd Baptist Church. He loved playing sports. Through his entire sports career in the Romeo Schools, he was a decorated athlete, playing football, baseball, basketball and boxing. He graduated from Romeo High School in 1966. In his youth, he worked on the Hough farm in Almont, milking cows and bailing hay. He then, worked for many years at Pontiac Motors. Huck loved to play backgammon and was always a winner at the poker table. He loved to sing Motown music especially “My Girl” by the Temptations. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Huck’s was know for his kindness to all and his memorable responses when asked ….. “What’s up…..Nothing but the sky”…… “How do you feel …. I feel like a champion.” Huck was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Huck is survived by his beloved siblings; Clyde Cushingberry, Roxanne (George) Tanner, Marvin (Debbie) Cushingberry, Bernetta (Clarence) Crigler, and Mark (Brenda) Cushingberry all of Romeo. Also surviving sister in law Mary Cushingberry, many nieces and nephews and friends.

Obituary Preview: Sharilyn Olytha Ford (Sweetsie) drifted away peacefully on April 20, 2021. Sweetsie was born on February 27, 1941 to James Otha and Hilda Ray Steward in Romeo Michigan. She attended schools in Romeo and Detroit, Michigan.
While a student at Romeo Junior High School, she was a member of the cheerleading squad and a star basketball player. Sweetsie graduated from Detroit Northeastern High School in 1957.
Shortly after graduating Sweetsie went to work at Christ Child Home for Girls in Detroit.
On September 15, 1962, Sharilyn married Robert B. Ford at Second Baptist Church in Romeo. From this union was born two children, Briggett C. Ford and Robert E Ford, both of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
In 1973, Sweetsie began working at Amanda Moore Elementary School in Romeo as a teacher’s aide in the resource room. She would go on to work for 31 years in the Romeo Community Schools; first for 23 years at Amanda Moore Elementary and then for 8 years at Romeo Middle School.
In addition to working at the schools, Sweetsie worked at the Romeo Kroger grocery store for over 20 years, retiring shortly before leaving the schools.
Sweetsie was very involved within the community. She was involved in the Girl Scouts for over 30 years and, in fact, received a lifetime achievement award for her service.
In the late 1970s, Sharilyn sat on the founding board of Community Human Services, the first local social service agency in Romeo. As part of her work with CHS, she was instrumental in starting the Summer Bonanza Program, a six-week summer day camp program.
In keeping with her belief in the importance of education, Sharilyn participated in the Macomb Literacy Project, teaching adults how to read. She also taught the adult Sunday school classes at the Church of God in Christ in Romeo.
Her community commitment extended to the Romeo Peach Festival with her acting as a judge for the Floral Parade on several occasions.
Sweetsie sat on the Romeo Cemetery Board because of her strong respect for those who passed on. While on the Board, she and I identified all of our family graves and made sure that every one had some form of marker on it.

She was born on August 5, 1930 in Detroit to George and Jessica Phillips, the youngest of 11 children; all preceded her in death.
Sharron married Allan M. Pert on June 19, 1954 in Detroit and they quickly produced six children in seven years. Family was the cornerstone of Sharron’s life and she often stated that her happiest days were the ones spent with her young children by her side.
Blessed with a warm, generous and loving personality, all were drawn to Sharron and she was simply a favorite sister, aunt and friend to many. She loved dancing and singing around the house, much to her children’s amusement, while also teaching them everything from baking to fixing bicycle chains and ice skating; she would skate backwards in the process. She was happiest spending time in her backyard feeding her squirrels and birds.
Grandchildren brought a special joy into her life and she be will long be remembered for all the fun and games she brought to their visits. Whether creating paper dolls, letting them win at checkers or any games, shooting baskets or roller skating she wore the Grandma title with great pride.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Allan, 6 children, Allan Scott (Maria), Sharal (Paul) Kulik, James (the late Cheryl), David (Deborah), Barbara (David) Templeton and the late Robert Allan. Also 10 grandchildren, Laura Adams, Dianna Adams, Jamie Francisco (Jason), Rachel Desano (Tony), Kyle Pert (Jamie), Andrew Templeton, Natalie Pert, Steven Templeton, Nolan Pert and the late Paul Joseph Kulik II (Joey); 10 great-grandchildren and one more on the way.
