Andrew Thomas Troia - April 16, 1970 - April 08, 2024

Departed: 04/08/2024 (Imlay City)
Obituary Preview: Andrew Thomas Troia, passed away suddenly on April 8, 2024. It was a tragic and senseless ending to a meaningful life. He was born April 16, 1970 in Almont, the son of Anthony and Shirley (Kroetsch) Troia. He graduated from Armada High School in 1988.
Andy started training in Martial Arts as a teenager in 1984 with Patty Reid as his instructor. Andy was the first student that Patty promoted to black belt. After years of training together as best friends, Andy and Patty fell in love. They were married on May 15, 1993 at Our Lady of Carmel Catholic Church in Emmett.
Andy and Patty owned and operated TNT Martial Arts in Romeo where he was a Master Instructor of Karate and Professor of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Andy had a passion for teaching Karate and Jiu-Jitsu and he combined his strong work ethic, sense of humor, great storytelling, and passion for life in his lessons that had a permanent impact on the thousands of students he has taught over the past 35 years. He was a role model and leader to all ages, both on and off of the mats. We all enjoyed his unsolicited advice and “Andyisms”, even if it meant staying well after class was supposed to be over. His students meant the world to him, even if he was famous for calling more than a few of them by the wrong name.
Andy would go to the ends of the earth for his friends, students and those he loved. He was larger than life. He had an infectious laugh, enjoyed telling stories, (a bit politically incorrect at times), and loved everyone. He was often described as “quite the character”.
Andy enjoyed the great outdoors; target shooting, playing guitar, hiking, kayaking, and recently took up golf. He was forever a kid at heart and had a bit of an obsession with Sasquatch, Lego, and Marvel movies. Most of all, he was a proud girl dad and devoted husband who loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed training together in the Martial Arts with his entire family, the many trips to Disney, ice skating, Jiu-Jitsu training around the world, and the most recent trip with Patty to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary to hike at Zion National Park and go off-roading in Utah.
Andy is survived by his beloved wife Patty, loving daughters Alexandra (Zachary Bouren) and Arianna. Also surviving, his father Anthony and siblings Anthony (Sue) Troia, Nino (Sandy) Troia, and Timothy (Kathy) Troia. He was preceded in death by his brother Brent and his mother Shirley.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Friday, April 12 from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Andy will be lying in-state on Saturday, April 13 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church in Romeo and a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. with Father Stephen Reckker officiating. Memorial Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org). Andy, Patty, and the rest of the TNT family have many fond memories of fundraising over $140,000 for St. Jude Children’s Hospital over the years, and the organization holds a special place in their hearts.
Share a fond memory of Andy on his memorial page at www.muirfh.com.  Arrangements entrusted to the Muir Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center.
