Alli Maxine Miller - August 09, 1998 - August 12, 2023

Departed: 08/12/2023 (LaSalle)
Obituary Preview: Alli Maxine Miller, a.k.a. Alli Baba or Alli Max, slipped away in her sleep, sometime Saturday, August 12, 2023, at her home in LaSalle, at the age of 25.
To celebrate this beautiful soul, who left us much, much too soon, a memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, August 18, 2023 at the Zion United Church of Christ, Peru with Rev. Alex Garncarz, pastor officiating. Visitation and memory sharing will be held 1:30-3:00 PM Friday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Mueller-Pagani Funeral Home, LaSalle.
Alli was born in the very early Sunday morning hours of August 9, 1998 at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru to Edward S. Miller and Rebecca "Becky" Moore. Her great-aunt, Theresa Grove was given the honor of becoming Alli's "mom of the heart" in October 1999, and they happily celebrated "gotcha day" every February 14th.
As Alli grew into an adult, she was employed as a pizza maker extraordinaire. She created the doughy delights at Pizza Hut, Casey's, and Domino's. She was looking forward to expanding her career into the retail industry and was set to start a new job. In her spare time, Alli liked to cook occasionally, mostly making her fantastic fudgy brownies and chocolate chip cheesecake. She was working on expanding her culinary skills with the help of her mom of the heart and her memaw. Although she liked cooking, Alli most often preferred to be cooked for, have food delivered, or pick up something quick. When she was with her family, she often enjoyed local restaurants, especially Chinese and Italian.
Alli adored her little dog, Ophelia, or Ophie, as Alli often called her.
Alli had the most loving and generous heart. She was always willing to help others and she loved fiercely. She could light up a room with her most radiant smile.
Alli is survived by her dad, Ed Miller; her mom of the heart, Theresa Grove; her grandma/memaw, Nancy Schmidt; her great-grandma, Mary Fiedler; and a very special aunt, Tracy Miller Mennie all of LaSalle. Survivors also include her siblings, Evan Grove, Mariah Miller, Preston Stuart, Jacob and Savana Miller, and Drake Coil; her nephew and niece, Aiden and Adaline Grove; several aunts and uncles; and multiple cousins. Alli never had the opportunity to realize just how deeply she was and is loved by both family and enough friends to fill a small town.
She was preceded in death by her birth mother, Rebecca Stewart; her step-dad of the heart, Sheldon Grove; her twin sibling several months before birth; her grandfather, Kenneth Schmidt; her great-grandfather, Otto Fiedler; and her best friend, buddy, and confidant, Marissa "Issy" Roberts.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. A note from dad: Now you are created again. I see you, I love you, I'm sorry. I'll see you soon. "Hey dad"...I hear your voice all the time. Love, Dad

Richard "Dick" Jackson - January 19, 1936 - April 05, 2023

Departed: 04/05/2023 (LaSalle)
Obituary Preview: Richard "Dick" Jackson, 87, formerly of Berwick, Illinois, passed on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 in LaSalle, Illinois.
Dick was born in Plymouth, Illinois on January 19, 1936 to George and Helen (Downey) Jackson. He married Marilyn Smith on April 25, 1958. They were married for nearly 60 years, and Dick took care of Marilyn until her dying day in 2018. Together, Dick and Marilyn had two children, Jody and Julie.
Dick honorably served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957, stationed in Panama as a food inspector. Full military rites were conducted by the Peru Veterans Memorial Group. After coming home from serving his country, Dick worked for nearly four decades at Admiral, retiring before the age of 60. He primarily worked in the maintenance department. This was the perfect job, since it enabled his gift of gab throughout the entire plant.
Dick was a great outdoorsman, with an unmatched love of fishing, trapping, raising bluebirds, serving as a prairie steward, and the ever-elusive mushrooming. He always had a story to tell of these adventures. If there was a fun and well-orchestrated prank involved with someone during outdoor activities, it was bonus time spent with nature. When asked where he caught the fish, without fail, he gave the evasive answer of "farm pond".
Although he kept his fishing holes secret, he was otherwise very generous in sharing his knowledge, always taking the time to explain "how things work". Some of the skills he taught his descendants are: how to use hula hoops in the yard to obtain precision in casting a line, how to figure the height of a tree using trigonometry on a sunny day, and how to complete a scorecard at a major league baseball game.
Dick always enjoyed going to family reunions, sharing photos, and filling-in branches of the family tree with his genealogy hobby. To the reunions he'd bring home-fried chicken, along with his made-from-scratch potato salad and homemade coleslaw. At many reunions, he would even fry fresh fish at the park. He could catch the fish and cook it, too.
Those left to cherish Dick's fish stories are his daughter, son-in-law, four grandchildren, granddaughter-in-law, two great-grandchildren, and a brother. He was predeceased by his wife, son, parents, and a brother.
Per Dick's wishes, cremation rites were entrusted to the Mueller-Pagani Funeral Home in LaSalle, Illinois. There will be no services. Inurnment has been conducted at Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg, Illinois.
In lieu of memorials, participate in an activity related to nature in Dick's memory. Read a book about conservation, walk a nature trail, or wet a line.
