Tod R Sercich - May 18, 1965 - April 15, 2024

Departed: 04/15/2024 (St Charles)
Obituary Preview: Tod R. Sercich, 58, of Dekalb, Illinois, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024 at his home. He was born May 18, 1965 in Chicago, Illinois to Milan and Patricia (Olfanos) Sercich.
Tod was a humble man with many interests and passions. Following graduation from St. Charles High School, he earned certification from Wyoming Technical School and had a successful career as a automotive technician for more than a decade before shifting gears and careers to Information Technology. He spent the past 13 years as a Microsoft Systems Engineer working for Future Link IT of Elgin.
A true renaissance man, Tod excelled in his many hobbies. He was an excellent cook and grill master and was as skilled in the kitchen as he was in the garden, workshop and garage. He enjoyed tinkering and lovingly restored his classic cars, including a 1970 Plymouth GTX and 1972 Plymouth Duster. Other interests included model trains, gardening, and building guitars. He was a self-taught guitar luthier, and created beautiful instruments out of wood, shaping, painting, and buffing them until they became works of art visually and musically. In true Tod fashion, he taught himself to play guitar and enjoyed creating music. Another interest was restoring antique gas engines, a passion he shared with his best buddy Steve Alt in Iowa. The two had been friends since 1983 and had met during their time at Wyoming Tech. Each Labor Day Weekend they would get the engines ready to transport and display them at the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in Mount Pleasant.
One of Tod’s greatest joys was spending time with family and friends. He leaves behind beloved sister and best friend Donielle Jones and her children and grandchildren; Jesse (Lauren) Jones and Kristin Jones (fiancé Eric Walsh) and Ryan and Mallory Lukas and Khaleesi, and Kayden Jones. He will be missed by his big, fat Greek family, including Aunt Tina and Uncle Alex Linardos and Uncle Nick Contos., and cousins in the Bravos, Contos, Foster, Linardos, and Vamvakos families.
He was preceded in death by his parents Milan and Patricia Sercich, grandparents Kalliope and Nick Olfanos, Bessie and Nick Gligich, and Aunt Stella Contos.
While Tod was born in Chicago and spent more than two decades living in Florida before moving back, he was a life-long Packers fan and enjoyed the rivalry between the Bears and the Pack. He loved to tease his cousins who were rooting for Chicago or for the Pittsburgh Steelers and could discuss sports as easily as a conversation about politics or music. Although he could appear shy and quiet, Tod had an unmistakable twinkle in his eye that matched his intellect, quick wit, and wonderfully sarcastic sense of humor. He will be remembered for making the mundane fun, and for his caring, giving, and generous ways.
Visitation will be held at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 South Third Street, St. Charles Illinois on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 1:00 pm with an opportunity to share memories at 3:00 pm. If you wish, we invite you to wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt to honor Tod’s memory. Donations may be made to Fox Valley Hands of Hope in Geneva or plant a tree in Tod's memory.

Margaret C. Reid - July 29, 1935 - February 28, 2024

Departed: 02/28/2024 (St Charles)
Obituary Preview: Margaret C. Reid, 88, formerly of St. Charles passed away Wednesday, February28, 2024, at Michaelsen’s Health Center, in Batavia, IL, peacefully and surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born July 29, 1935, in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (nee Ross) Millar. Margaret always knew she wanted to be a nurse. When she finished school at 16, she was too young to take the nursing entrance exams, so she went to work in residence at The Children’s Shelter, in Edinburgh, Scotland, helping to care for those without parents of their own. When she was old enough, she studied to become a midwife, choosing to provide care in the very poorest areas of Glasgow, often collecting blankets and towels to take to her patients. In 1959, she decided to move to the United States to further her nursing career. She met Al the day she arrived in Chicago and they were married on January 4th 1964. They moved to Alsip, raised Holly and Lisa and enjoyed travel, family, friends, pinochle, Chicago Blackhawk games, but mostly just each other…they had so many adventures. Margaret continued her nursing career at Central Community Hospital and then Holy Cross Hospital working in the post-surgical/recovery units until her youngest grandchildren were born. Margaret retired and she and Al moved to St. Charles in 2006 to be closer to Ian and Anna (and in theory closer to Lisa and John, but they were clearly of secondary importance). Margaret relished her role as Grandma (and GiGi) to all her grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren and her role as “Aunt Margaret” to countless family and friends (she made no distinction between technical nieces and nephews and chosen ones). When Al became sick and moved to a healthcare facility, Margaret cared for him with love, commitment, and dedication that was incredible to watch. She would visit him daily, spending all day making sure he was well taken care of and loved. Even then, her calling as a nurse was apparent as she was often found tending to the other nursing home residents who needed help in the dining room or needed someone to talk to or just needed to know someone was there to care about them. After Al passed away, Margaret continued her active life, spending time with family and old friends and making new friends. She was often seen at her grandkids sporting events, concerts and activities and she rarely missed her Thursday night standing dinner at St. Charles Place with her friends. She loved, and was loved by so many people.
Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Holly (Wayne) Jackson and Lisa (John) Hall; four grandchildren, Wayne (Kristi) Jackson Jr., Andrew (Katelyn) Jackson, Ian Hall and Anna Hall; three great grandchildren, Weston, Lillie and Audrey Jackson and a brother, Charles (Fernie Mclean) Millar. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Albert, a Granddaughter, April Jackson, and a sister, Mary Rodden.
Visitation will be held at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, 227 Eastside Dr. Geneva, on Saturday, March 9 from 11 -1 pm. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 1 pm. A luncheon will take place following the service.
