Obituary Preview: Mrs. Peggy Jean Marshall Foley, age 84 of Stuart, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021 at her home.  She was born in Henry County on August 10, 1936 to the late Alvin Willis Marshall and Agnes Foley Marshall.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Foley was preceded in death by her husband, Novel Austin Foley.
Peggy lived a rich, full life and will be forever missed by her family and friends. Her passing creates a wound that will never heal in all of our hearts. We will always remember her sense of humor, vivid storytelling, and no nonsense advice. “Where there is a will, there is a way”, “It’s not what you know, but who you know”, and “Be careful what you wish for because you might get it”, were all favorite expressions.
Peggy was generous, kind hearted, perseverant, and creative. She inspired and supported her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and took pride in their accomplishments. With the love of her life, her husband Novel, Peggy’s days were filled with work and adventure. Her many hobbies included reading, gardening, and needlework of all kinds. She loved sharing her cooking skills and the time for fun and fellowship around the table she created. While she enjoyed her many travels across the United States and to Europe, Peggy always loved her Patrick County home and view of Bull Mountain best. “Go rest high on that mountain”.
Mrs. Foley is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy J. and Rick Hutchens of Ridgeway; a son and son-in-law, Dan Joyce and Al Davis of North Redington Beach, FL; grandson Joshua Whitlow and wife, Lori, granddaughter Katie Whitlow; three great-grandchildren, Austin Whitlow, Emma Whitlow and Jack Dodson; and a sister, Wanda Gray Marshall of Stuart.

Obituary Preview: Ms. Sandra Jean Greer Mabe, age 70 of Walnut Cove, North Carolina, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021 at her home.  She was born in Carroll County on August 28, 1950 to the late J.B. Greer and Mary Frances Chrisley Fields.  In addition to her parents, Ms. Mabe was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Greer Mabe, and a special pet, Buddy.  She was a loving and caring mother to her only child and they were each other’s world.  Although she was born in Fries, she grew up in Bassett where she and the Greer family were well known.  Being one of four sisters, they grew up very close to each other.  She truly loved the Lord, and walked closely with Jesus.
Ms. Mabe is survived by her son, Dwayne Parnell of Walnut Cove; two sisters, Joyce Sloan (Dennis) of Ferrum, Alice Sloan (Ray) of Rocky Mount; a brother, Roger Fields (Marlana) of King, North Carolina; a half-sister, Janice Gardner of Rocky Mount; two half-brothers, James Greer and Terry Greer, both of Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kimberley Bowman Lawson of the home; three daughters, Kayla Lawson, Kara Lawson and Krista Lawson (Jason), all of Lawsonville; a grandson, Kingston Payne; his mother and step-father, Mary Hazel Tilley Medley and Garfield Medley of Lawsonville; three sisters, Cindy Lawson (Dale) of Danbury, Sheila Smith (Ronnie) of King, North Carolina, Ethel Pyrtle of Lawsonville; two brothers, Thomas Lawson (Tina) of Lawsonville, Randall Lawson (Tabbatha) of Lawsonville, his father-in-law, Charles Bowman of Dry Pond; and several nieces and nephews.

Erman Johnson Bryant - April 10, 1947 - July 01, 2021

Obituary Preview: “Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”  (Col 3:23) Erman Johnson Bryant went home to receive his inheritance on Wednesday, July 1, 2021.  A fervent servant of Christ, and a patriarch of his family, Erman was well known for his hard work, service to his community, and dedication to the Lord’s work.  He was born in Patrick County on April 10, 1947, to the late Chester Columbus Bryant and Lonie Bryant Rorrer.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, G. W. Thomas and one sister-in-law, Regena Haden Handy.
Surviving is his loving wife of 41 years, Linda Lou Handy Bryant, of the home: his son, Jason Erman Bryant and wife, Monica.  Five grandsons, Kenneth, Dillon, David, Paul, and Jake Bryant; two granddaughters, Jessica and Abigail Bryant; three brothers, Calvin Bryant and wife Debbie, Kent Bryant and wife Charlene, James Bryant and wife Judy;  two sisters, Lucille Bryant Thomas and Anna Bryant Walker; one brother-in-law, James “Jimmy” Handy and several nieces and nephews.
Erman graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College, then started his career as a welder, fabricator, mechanic, and carpenter before settling into being the owner and operator of Buffalo Ridge Construction.  During his retirement, he enjoyed landscaping, golfing, and trips to the beach.  He was a long-time serving member of Smith River Church of the Brethren and loved speaking in church and teaching Sunday School. “Victory in Jesus,” was his favorite hymn. Hours of laughs were enjoyed while playing Mexican Train Dominoes, the game Erman introduced to his family.

He was long time member of Mountain View United Methodist Church. He was the owner/operator of Marvin Belcher Bulldozing. Marvin will be remembered for being a devoted husband, loving father, and caring grandfather.
Mr. Belcher is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elva Pendleton Belcher of the home; three children, Jimmy David Belcher, Danny Ray Belcher. and Deborah Belcher Quesinberry, all of Meadows of Dan; four grandsons and wives, Stephen and Lisa Roop Belcher, Dustin and Angel Walton Belcher, Darren and Suzanne Plasters Belcher, and James Quesinberry; one granddaughter and husband, Sarah Quesinberry and Patrick Matheny; eight great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Arleene and Robert Wood and a sister-in-law, Jean Belcher, all of Meadows of Dan; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gregory is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Donna Gregory, David and Melissa Gregory, all of Stuart; six grandchildren, Lou Arden Vernon (Lee), Alice Pendergrass (Stephen), Collin Gregory, Tanya Gregory, Kristin Gregory, Dustin Gregory; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Sheree and Tim Nickelston of Lawsonville, NC; three sons and daughters-in-law, David Harris of Stuart, Michael and Dana Harris of Citz, Jeffery and Becky Harris of Patrick Springs; seven grandchildren, McCrae Nickelston and wife, Dawn, Andy Nickelston and wife, Jena, Cher Martin and husband, Kent, Kristen Harris, Makayleigh Harris, Faith Ruscelloni and husband, Christian, Nathaniel Harris and wife, Ashley; two children that were very special to her heart, Kendall and Riley Epperly; nine great grandchildren, Bailey Cook and husband, Christian, Madison Martin, Maddi Ashburn, Elizabeth, Isaiah, Emma, Eden, Adalyn, and Palmer Nickelston; and one great great grandson, J.C. Yvonne Clark - November 27, 1937 - June 29, 2021

Obituary Preview: Yvonne Williams Clark passed away June 29, 2021, with family in Patrick County, Virginia. She was 83.
Yvonne was born November 27, 1937, in Stuart, Virginia to Clarence Woodrow and Edith Williams followed by three younger siblings, Wesley, Jack, and Sandra. She is survived by her brother, Jack Williams and wife Lisa, and sister Sandra Harris also of Stuart.  She graduated from Stuart High School in 1956 and served in the U.S. Post Office from 1974-2004.
Yvonne started her postal career in Tipton Tennessee after moving there in 1969 and returned home to Stuart, VA after accepting a position as a Postal Clerk in 1983. She and her family lived in the home her father built, a special source of pride and belonging, as multiple generations congregated at this residence throughout the years. Yvonne loved to travel and always dreamed of seeing new places. She especially enjoyed a Carnival cruise she took with her husband October of 2000, to the Bahamas.
Yvonne possessed a strong faith in the Lord as a child at Stuart Baptist Church and sang duets in the choir with her husband Ray Clark, Sr.  She served in the Cumberland Presbyterian Women’s Club (CPW) at the Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Atoka, Tennessee until moving back to Patrick County. She was acutely skilled at caring for others and attended to many ailing relatives throughout her lifetime. She took great pride in her four sons and their accomplishments, and oftentimes shared stories about them with others, discussing the organizations and sports they were involved with, as well as their service to their country in the U.S Navy, Postal Service, the state of VA and U.S Army.
Yvonne was proceeded in death of her husband of 60 years Ray Lee Clark, who passed away on June 18, 2017.  She is survived by her sons, Ray L. Clark Jr. and wife Denise, Blaine Clark and wife Denise, Woodie Clark and wife Kim, Jonathan Clark, seven grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.
There will be a viewing at Moody Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 13th from 6-8pm.  A Memorial Service will be held, Wednesday, July 14th at 11:00am at Stuart Presbyterian Church followed by interment at Sycamore Baptist Church.

Airy Church of God of Prophecy.
Surviving is two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tommy and Judy Bailey, Jerome Bailey all of Stuart; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Mr. Alvis Ralph Shelton, age 90 of Ferrum, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at his home.  He was born in Patrick County on April 11, 1931 to the late William Thomas Shelton, Sr. and Pearle Turner Shelton.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Thomas Shelton, Jr., Charley Randolph Shelton; a half-sister, Lucille B. Nester; four brothers-in-law, K. Glenn Stovall, J. Cornelius Stovall, Ralph A. Stovall, Jerry B. Nester; and three sisters-in-law, Cindy Agnew Stovall, Marie G. Shelton, and Ruby H. Shelton.  Ralph served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and attended Union Primitive Baptist Church.  He had retired from DuPont and loved going to yard sales and doing woodwork.  He never met a stranger.
Surviving is his loving wife of 62 years, Alberta Stovall Shelton of the home; two nieces, Susie Smith, Opal Coalson; one nephew, Greg Shelton; two sisters-in-law, Jean Stovall, and Nancy Stovall both of Patrick Springs; and numerous other family members and friends.

Obituary Preview: Jeffrey Dewayne “Jeff” Fackler, age 58, passed away June 13, 2021 at his home after a battle with lung cancer that had metastasized to his brain.  Jeff was born January 28, 1963 in Martinsville, Virginia to the late Lenwood and Colene Fackler.
Jeff worked for Koger Air, American Furniture, the Martinsville Bulletin, and he was also the owner and operator of Fackler’s Lawn Care before he became disabled.  He took pride in every yard he landscaped, and his customers often expressed their amazement and gratitude for a job more than well done.
His obsession was Kart racing.  Jeff and his brother, Jerry, raced under Fackler II Kart racing for over 20 years.  Jeff held track championships at Stateline, Madison and Providence speedways. Jeff is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Lisa Fackler; daughter, Jessica Fackler; stepson, Timothy Ring; two granddaughters, Cheyenne Geramita and Emily Ring; two brothers, Jerry Fackler (Mary) of Bassett and Barry Fackler (Cindy) of Collinsville; four sisters, Donna Byrd (Ricky) of Martinsville, Vickie McDaniel (Ricky) of Collinsville, Lindy Collins of Martinsville and Kelly Fackler of Mount Juliet, Tennessee.  Jeff also leaves behind his sidekick that stayed by his side until the end, his fur-baby, his dog “Buddy.”

Obituary Preview: Mrs. Eunice Mae Bateman Kirkman, age 95 of Stuart, Virginia passed away at the Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart on May 30, 2021.  She was born in Alamance County, North Carolina on April 24, 1926, to the late Willie Bryon Bateman and Rose Agnes Robertson Bateman.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Steven Tony Turner; her second husband, James Douglas Kirkman; one sister, Lucille Parks; and one brother, Jack Bateman.  Mrs. Kirkman was a graduate of Rockingham Community College nursing program; she enjoyed a successful career as a registered nurse and also worked as an administrator of a nursing home.  She was one of the original members of Fairystone Baptist Church.  Eunice was known for her love of history; she was the curator of the Patrick County Historical Museum for many years, she did extensive ancestry tracing for original Patrick County families and later donated all her research to the museum.  She was a devoted member of the Patrick County Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution; and the Wolf Creek Cherokee Indian Tribe of Virginia.  She also raised and showed Morgan horses, with several horses taking best in show.
Mrs. Kirkman is survived by two sons, James Turner and wife, Jing Jia Turner of Bassett; and Roger Bryon Turner of Stuart; six grandchildren, Ron Eugene Turner of Winston Salem, North Carolina, James S. Turner, Jr of Bassett, Steven Turner of Detroit, Michigan, MaryKate Turner of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Kelly Turner of Detroit, Michigan, and Ceri Elizabeth Turner of London, England; one sister, Marie Stone of Sanville; and several nieces and nephews.
