Obituary Preview: Gladys Marie Ambrose, 75 of Colonial Beach, died peacefully after a short battle with cancer. Marie worked for Little Sue Food Store in Oak Grove before working for Harry Weldon, delivering the Washington Post for more than 20 years. She loved watching westerns with her grandson Chris, and working on crossword puzzles. Marie enjoyed taking care of her grandson Chris in her retirement.
She is survived by her two daughters, Georgia Shannon (Bobby), and Patricia Rock (Keith); the light of her life, her grandson Christopher Shannon; sister, Frances Bush (Bill); and numerous nephews & nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Irving Barrett; her son, David Ambrose; and her brother, Vernon Wilkins.
By her request, the family will celebrate her life privately.

Lindburgh Randolph Bowen - September 03, 1927 - May 05, 2024

Obituary Preview: Lindburgh Randolph Bowen, age 96, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 5, 2024. Randolph was employed at the Coca-Cola Plant in Montross as a young man and was drafted into the Army at the end of WWII. Upon returning home after the war, he worked at Southern States in Montross. He subsequently established a career with VDOT, rising through the ranks to be the Superintendent of Westmoreland County. Randolph enjoyed fishing, and enjoyed making his own lures with his buddies. He also loved gardening, and grew vegetables into his 90’s, which he shared with visitors, along with his homemade lures. His grandsons and great granddaughter were the absolute love of his life; he always wanted to know how they were and what they were up to.
Randolph is survived by his son Glenn R. Bowen; grandson, Kevin R. Bowen; and great-granddaughter, Kylie M. Bowen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond U. Bowen, and D. Mavis Bowen; wife, E. Beatrice Bowen: grandson, Adam M. Bowen; sisters, Gladys M. Farrell, and Shirley O. Jenkins; brothers, Melvin M. Bowen, and J. Edward Bowen.

William Howard Hartzell - November 11, 1935 - April 27, 2024

Obituary Preview: William Howard Hartzell, age 88 of Montross, Virginia passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024. He was the youngest of nine children born to the late Clinton Harold Hartzell and Jean Bull Hartzell. Howard was happily married to the love of his life, Eva Jarzembska for 32 wonderful years. Eva passed away in 2004. They now are both reunited forever.
Howard was born in Slingerlands, NY on November 11, 1935. After he graduated from Hudson Valley Community College, he served in the U.S. Army overseas during the Korean War.
Howard worked as a sales associate representing fine China and glassware businesses. He retired in the Northern Neck of Virginia where he enjoyed fishing and boating on the Potomac River, which ran right behind his house. Howard enjoyed traveling with Eva and spending time with their family and friends. He was a member of the Cople Church in Westmoreland County.
Howard is predeceased by his wife, Eva; father, Clinton Hartzell; his mother, Jean Bull Hartzell; and siblings: Graham, Janice (Mullens), Mary (Boutelle), Clinton, Ann (Weishaar), Jean (Clayton), David, and Sara (Smith) Hartzell.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, and a dear friend, Carolyn Barranca.

Shirley Hallock Flemer - March 31, 1926 - April 03, 2024

Obituary Preview: Shirley Hallock Flemer died peacefully at her home, “Ingleside,” on April 3, 2024 with her family by her side. She was born in 1926 in Westhampton Beach, Long Island, New York. She graduated from Westhampton Beach High School and attended the University of Kentucky where she majored in animal husbandry. Shirley’s childhood in Westhampton Beach cultivated her lifelong love of the beach and her passion for horses. She met the love of her life, Carl Flemer, through a family friend from Westhampton. Carl persuaded Shirley to marry him and move to Virginia with the promise of buying her a horse – which he did!
Together, Carl and Shirley transformed a tired farm into a large dairy business, then into one of the largest wholesale nurseries on the East Coast. Shirley was also an avid gardener whose flowers and vegetables enriched the lives of her family and friends. But for Shirley, her most important calling in life was her children and grandchildren, who she showered with love and attention.
Shirley was an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Oak Grove, VA, where she loved to sing and organized the Christmas pageant and many other special holiday services. Her beautiful voice and attention to detail were noticed by all.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carl F. Flemer, Jr. and her oldest son, Carl F. Flemer III. She is survived by her sister, Sunder Wells of SC, her sister-in-law, Blanche Flemer Gouldman, her daughters Sherri Flemer of Richmond, VA, and Sara Simpson (Kennedy) of Louisville, KY, her sons Douglas Flemer (Nancy) and Chris Flemer (April) of Oak Grove, her grandchildren Bradley Pugh, Douglas Pugh (Brenda), Sara Wright (Rusty), Carlyn Flemer and Jordan Flemer (Bekah), Tierney Jutzi (Joe), Will Simpson (Maggie) and Palmer Simpson (Jessica), and her five great grandchildren Kira Wright, Maia Wright, Ryan Pugh, Kennedy Jutzi and Owen Simpson.
The family would like to thank all of Shirley’s caregivers for their loving care and Matt Bowen, the Ingleside grounds manager, for his devoted service to Shirley.

Mrs. Hutt was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Nomini Grove where she was the matriarch of the church and led a ministry of warm fellowship with delicious home-cooked meals. She was a real estate broker for Hutt Realty for over 30 years and a member of the Northern Neck Board of Realtors. She and her husband Daniel worked together in the family’s country store in Neenah, operated Neenah Packing company (tomato cannery), and co-founded Hutt Realty and
Hutt Produce. She is survived by her son Daniel Vaughan Hutt Jr and wife Lisa, Warsaw; two daughters, Jane Hutt Fauser and husband Warren, Waterloo, SC, and Linda Hutt, King George; two grandsons, Daniel Vaughan Hutt III and wife Sarah and James Aubrey Hutt and sisters Louise Mathis, Laura Mae Copenhaver, Ruth Conklin, and Betty Allard. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Daniel Vaughan Hutt Sr., parents Laura

Obituary Preview: Margaret Marie Samuels Scates, 80, of Gloucester, formerly of Montross, joyfully and peacefully entered her Heavenly home on Monday, March 4, 2024. Margaret was born in Montross, Virginia to the late Everett Charles Samuels and the late Pearl Lillian Coutney Samuels. She was a lifelong member of Currioman Baptist Church in Montross.
She retired from a long career that spanned several decades working in various supermarket deli departments. This career brough Margaret great joy because she loved to feed people! Her cooking was old-school and legendary – she loved big family gatherings and cooking and preparing for them. Margaret was faithful to her family, beginning first with the close bond she had with her parents, aunts, uncles, and siblings; after she became a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother there was no one more interested in and devoted to them than Margaret. She loved animals, was a big Elvis fan and loved dancing. She was also a real girly-girl and loved dressing well, wearing her jewelry and was never seen without her hair and makeup picture-perfect.
Margaret is survived by her three loving daughters: Lisa Harman, Patty Self, and Diana Holden (Larry); ten grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; her brother Bunny Samuels (Barbara); her sister Linda Baker; her dog Taco and her cat Spikey. Margaret was predeceased by her parents; her brother Everett “Ronny” Samuels; her son-in-law Bradley Self; and her beloved great-grandbaby Wendell E. Atkinson, III.
A funeral service for Margaret will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2024, with the Reverend Danny Maupin officiating at Currioman Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be for immediate family in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. She was born on October 1, 1946 in Washington, D.C. to the late Louis Germain Gerber and Sophie Supanik Gerber. Mary Ellen was married to the love of her life, Mr. Russell Earl Culver. She worked as a Legal Secretary.
Mary Ellen’s life revolved around her family and friends especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a devout woman of the Catholic faith. To the people that knew her, Mary Ellen seemed to have an infectious sense of humor and was always optimistic even during hard times. She enjoyed playing board games and spending time by the pool with her friends and laughing together. Mary Ellen was a courageous fighter to the very end, battling ovarian cancer for 27 years.
Mary Ellen is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Russell E. Culver; her children, Russell Charles Culver (Lisa) of Rixeyville, Virginia, Daniel William Culver (Lori) of Roanoke, Virginia, and Stephen Louis Culver (Tina) of Amissville, Virginia; her grandchildren, Russell Allen, Justin, Kenneth, Trisha, Trevor, Matthew, Heather, Jordan, Faith, Bailey, and Parker; 14 great-grandchildren; her brother, Philip Gerber (Linda); special niece and nephew, Sarah and Josh; and many other nieces and nephews. Richard Harding Daiger - April 17, 1935 - February 16, 2024

Obituary Preview: Richard Harding Daiger, age 88, of Tidwells, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, February 16, 2024. He was born on April 17, 1935 in Westmoreland County, Virginia to the late B. Harding Daiger and Addie Mae Daiger.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Delphine G. Daiger, of 68 years. She was his wonderful caretaker and travel companion. He was also survived by his son, Richard Merle Daiger (Jeanne); son-in-law, Michael Propst; granddaughter, Pam Propst; grandson, Chris Daiger; three great-grandchildren: Jaisen, Maisen, and Haleigh. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Ann Propst.
Richard was a member of Nomini Baptist Church for over 65 years. Richard received his B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Longwood College and his Masters of Education in Secondary School Administration from the College of William and Mary. Richard was a devoted educator of 27 years. He taught at both Warsaw and Colonial Beach High Schools. Richard served as Assistant Principal at James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia; Business Education Department Head, Groveton High School in Fairfax, Virginia; Vocation Office Training Coordinator, Robinson High School in Fairfax, Virginia until his retirement.
Doctor Merle Landrum, a professor at Longwood College, was Richard's mentor. He was not just his educator, but his inspiration and friend. Richard also received accreditation from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Resource Management for the Seafood Industry. He served as Board Member Planning Commission - Westmoreland County. Richard also held a counselor position at the Haynesville State Correctional Center.
Richard was a waterman at heart. He was a strong advocate of preserving the environment by erosion control and run off management. His love for the oyster business as owner of Potomac Seafood Company was never ending. He always strived for producing the highest quality oysters. He loved the process of planting seed, watching them grow to harvest size, and receiving comments from his customers of how they enjoyed them. Richard was very active in the Virginia Marine Resources Commission. He leaves his love and appreciation to Lake Cowart, Ronnie Bevans, and many others. Thank you. He loved the water and all of its activities.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Pam Wilkins for her kindness and the excellent care she provided. Additional appreciation to the Westmoreland County Rescue Squad and 911 Services for the outstanding care and quick response over the years.
Richard’s funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Nomini Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Nomini Baptist Church Cemetery. Following the interment, you are invited to join the family in the Fellowship Hall.

Dyke, her great-nephews and niece, J. Bobby, Andrews M., and Lucy K. Dyke. Obituary Preview: Joseph “JOE” Dallas McCall, age 73, of Welcome, Maryland, ran his last race and departed from this world on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. He was born on January 10, 1951 in Washington, D.C. to his parents, Willis Edward McCall and Lorraine Berto McCall.
Joe was a kindhearted soul, a big teddy bear to those who knew him. He had a love for cars, racing and working on them. He and his son spent countless hours building race cars or traveling to the next Nascar race. Joe enjoyed every chance he could spending time with his family and friends.
Joe is survived by his son, Stephen J. McCall, and daughter-in-law Jennifer of Callao; grandchildren, Kimberly Palka, Joseph McCall, and Caleb McCall; and his two brothers, Bruce and Brian McCall of Sterling, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents.

V. Wade Wilkins - November 30, 1953 - January 16, 2024

Obituary Preview: V. Wade Wilkins, age 70 of Montross, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Wade was a hard worker his entire life. He started working at Collins Sanford’s store in Montross, helped his father install the water system at Glebe Harbor, delivered oil with the Peoples Oil Company, and also worked for VDOT in Warsaw.
Wade started working at Sanford-Price Funeral Home in Montross, using his God-given artistic talent to carve and shape monuments. When John W. Welch, II, purchased Sanford-Price in 1985, Wade was hired to not only work in monuments, but served an apprenticeship and studied Funeral Service. Wade cared for local families at Welch Funeral Home and assisted those needing monuments until he retired in 2019.
Ordained as a Pastor in 2002, he served at many churches in Westmoreland, Richmond, Essex, and King & Queen counties, helping anyone in need. He was currently serving as Manager of B.W. White Funeral Home in Aylett, while always filling in at local churches on most Sundays. Wade was a member of Currioman Baptist Church. He absolutely loved being outdoors & hunting. Wade was always helping others with his many talents.
Wade is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gail Taylor Wilkins; children: Brenda Lee Humphrey (James), Gerald Wade Wilkins (Mandy), and Cheryl Lynn Archbold (Nik); grandchildren: Kristin & Nathan Worrell, Mackenzie & Margaret Wilkins, and Sebastian & Kaylee Archbold; great-granddaughter Annistyn Clark; brothers: J. Bryon Wilkins, Chris Wilkins (Pam), and Tommy Wilkins (Stephanie); sister, Rita Balderson (Calvin); and several nieces and nephews.
Wade was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Geraldine Wilkins, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at Currioman Baptist Church at 11 a.m., on Monday, January 22, 2024, with interment to follow in the Currioman Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Welch Funeral Home, Montross Chapel, on Sunday, January 21, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Ruth Ann Wilson - March 15, 1941 - January 02, 2024

Obituary Preview: Ruth Ann Wilson, 82, of Driftwood Beach, passed away on January 2, 2024. Ruth Ann was born in Loudon County, Virginia on March 15, 1941, to the late A. Grafton Poland and the late Mary Ann Miller Poland.
Ruth Ann was an independent and creative soul. She had a flair for design that was evident in anything she touched. She was a self-taught artist who experimented in many disciplines, painting, drawing, photography, jewelry making, while being partial to watercolor and collage paintings. She had a special appreciation for nature and saw art and beauty in the everyday ordinary things in nature. She loved incorporating “RAW” materials in her art, like her signature in the corner of her paintings. She frequently commented on light, color, and texture. She was a keen observer of the natural world and loved living on the Potomac River where she enjoyed the water’s ebb and flow.
Left to celebrate her legacy of love and creativity are her daughters, Kathy (Walter) Redfearn of Richmond and Karen (Simon) Bayliss of Chattanooga, TN; her grandchildren: Cameron Ann Redfearn, Taylor (Maurice) Gaines, Robert Huntley (Julia) Redfearn, Adam Bayliss, great-grandchildren Grafton and Griffin Gaines; and her sisters, Jane (Peter) Shea and Sarah Presgrave. She is also survived by nephews, cousins, and a host of friends who shared her love of art.
Ruth Ann did not want a memorial service. We encourage you to remember her by creating something, taking a walk on the beach looking for sharks' teeth, sea glass or an eye-catching shell, or making a donation to an art foundation of your choice.
Our family would like to thank the wonderful team of ladies who provided her exceptional round-the-clock care in the last weeks of her life, as well as Riverside Hospice for their excellent care.

Obituary Preview: Edgar Aldridge Dove, age 78, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2023. Edgar was born on February 19, 1945 in Annapolis, Maryland to the late Owen Dove and Geraldine Ruth Collison Dove.
He was such a cherished husband, father, and PawPaw and was a very hard working and talented man. He was in the Army National Guard and earned his MBA in accounting while providing for his family. Edgar had a passion for music and played the saxophone, guitar, and piano along with having a beautiful, rich singing voice. He was a part of the very popular band The Avalons and they were inducted into the Maryland Entertainment Hall Of Fame on December 11, 2016. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. His amazing musical talents will live on in our memories.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Cathy A. Brown Dove; sons, James B. Dove [Kandi] and Michael C. Dove [Tracey]; daughter, Jacqueline R. Dove; grandchildren, Miranda Kerns, Chase Dove, Sarah Garner Bartlett, Savannah Dove, Sabrina Garner, Skyeann Dove and Sophia Garner; and two great-granddaughters, Atiana and Mila Kerns.
A private memorial service will be held for Mr. Dove at a later date.

Obituary Preview: Ira Corbin Muse, age 90, of Oak Grove, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023. He was born on July 23, 1933 to the late Ira Cornelius Muse and Mary Jesse Bowie Muse. Ira attended Oak Grove Elementary School, Randolph Macon Academy, and Randolph Macon College. He then married the love of his life, Betty Trew, in April of 1953.
Corbin built and operated Harbor View Yacht Club, Campground, and Airport from 1962 to 1976. He also dabbled in real estate and farming and purchased CorBet Farms. He successfully ran a produce operation with cantaloupes which were shipped to Ukrops stores, Safeways, and the Commissaries. Corbin was always looking for a new venture and started a produce brokerage with Florida farmers with the same chain stores. No one knows whether he loved the farm or his motor coach more. Corbin and Betty would leave every New Year’s Eve and head to Vacation Inn in West Palm Beach until March/April each and every year.
To name all of his accomplishments would be endless but his greatest accomplishment was his family. He is survived by his daughters, Cindy Muse, Kathy Dove (Jimmy); his beloved Australian Shepherd, Maddie; his grandchildren, Chris Hundley (Liana), Cory Jones (Brittany), Christian Jones (Shelena), Michael Cote (Erin), and Stephanie English (Elliot); and his great-grandchildren, Isaac and Jane Hundley, Mason Jones, Reagan and Peyton Jones, Cooper Cote, and Carter English.
There will be a private family service for Corbin Muse at Popes Creek Baptist Church.
Pallbearers for Mr. Muse’s service includes: Rodney Purce, Clayton Purce, Robert Gilliam, Frankie Stevens, Danny Kelly, and Bucky Hayden.

Obituary Preview: Belfield, Inez Virginia, 94, Lifelong resident of Montross, Va, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2023. Inez was preceded in death by her parents Paul William Belfield and Mary Amelia Cooke Belfield, as well as her partner in life Francis B. Rowe.
Inez was an accomplished seamstress for many years and an avid flower gardener. She had a cheerful personality and liked hugs. Inez had an amazing memory, and she could recall the names of most of the people whom she had encountered during her lifetime, including teachers she had in elementary school. She will be remembered for her fondness of old country music, her enthusiasm for jigsaw puzzles and bird watching, and her strong determination to excel in her physical therapy program.
She often said that she is probably related to half of the people living in Westmoreland County. Inez is survived by several cousins Frances H. Swann, Frankie Swann, Jr., Joyce Ann Suddeth, and her good friend Ellen Cosby, as well as numerous other cousins and friends.
Inez was a devoted parishioner of Grants United Methodist Church for most of her life, and then joined worshippers at Ephesus Christian Church.

Mable is survived by her daughter, Joyce Tate of Montross; son, Allen “Buddy” Tate, Jr. of Fredericksburg; granddaughter, Christina Marquez (Marcus) of King George; grandson, Allen Tate, III of Fredericksburg; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Tate, Sr.; her parents, Daniel Wilson Padgett and Meta Barrett Padgett; brothers, Carl Edward Padgett and James Daniel Padgett; and sisters, Josephine P. Jenkins , Helen P. Berry, and Shirley P. Smallwood.

Judy was a life-time farmer at the Boyle Farm and had a deep love for all of the animals that she cared for. She enjoyed growing produce, especially her delicious tomatoes. Judy was known for her caring nature and always tended to others around her. For many years, she was a member of the Montross Volunteer Rescue Squad. Judy also was a big supporter of the Newland Fire Department- Station 3 and was active in the auxiliary.
Judy is survived by her son, Bubba (Shannon); granddaughters, Lacey and Hailey; life partner, William Ambrose; sister, Mary Ellen “Loney” O’Bier (Durward), brothers, Bernard Boyle (Dana) and Bryon Boyle (Wendy); brother-in-law, Wayne Self, and her nieces and nephews: Wayne Morris, Kevin Morris, Keith Morris, Lynn O’Bier Hayes, Patrick O’Bier, Cindy Woolard, and Cora Meade Boyle.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Rosemarie Self.
A funeral service for Judy Boyle will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023 at Welcome Grove Baptist Church with Pastor William Armstrong, Pastor Willard Bowen, and Reverend Walker Gaulding officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home- Marks Chapel in Warsaw. Burial will follow the service at Henderson United Methodist Church Cemetery in Callao.

She was born in Richmond County to the late Herman Carlton King, Sr. and Caroline Smith King. Bea graduated from Washington & Lee High School and then married the love of her life, Francis E. Jones in December of 1949. They settled in Zacata where they raised a large family and ran a successful farming, lumber, and trucking business. Her greatest treasures were her family and friends. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church.
Bea loved to cook and was well known for her extraordinary cooking skills, as well as her generosity and hospitality. She was happiest when her home was filled with family and friends, and anyone else who happened to stop by. Her kitchen was always open, and you never knew who you would see at her table. Everyone was welcome and no one left hungry. Bea enjoyed working in her flower garden and decorating her house for the holidays. She also liked to watch a good baseball game.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Debbie Bowen (Mervin), Frankie (Gail), Johnny (Barbara Jean), David, Robert (Ruth), and Paul (Patti); grandchildren: Eddie Bowen (Becky) Frankie Jones, Jr. (Anna), BeBe Jones, Matthew Jones (Amanda), Mark Jones (Dakota), Frannie Langemo (Brady), Kate Jones (Mark), Brandon Jones (Jennifer), Brandy Jones (Ron), Jessica Dameron (Bundy), Trent Jones (Whitney), Rebecca Oliver (Cullen), Samantha Schiff (Eric), and Ali Yeatman (Trevor); great grandchildren: Zack Bowen (Marina), Nick Bowen (Ryleigh), Sara Brooke, Alexis and Kamden Bowen, Dakota, Gage, Easton, Remy, Madeleine, Skye, McKayla, McKenna, Colton, Noah, Cayden, Tripp and Flynn Jones, Paul and Abbey Quinn, Summor Day, Abigail Carmichael, Ella, Grafton, and Magnolia Langemo, Travis Baker, Ty-Zavier Brooks, C.J. Dameron, Brianna (Petre) Johnson, and Jack and Ellie Oliver; great-great grandchildren: Massiah Johnson, Issac Johnson, and Piper Jane Bowen; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brother, Herman Carlton King, Jr., her sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine and Vernon Miller and Bernice and Norman Daiger, her son, Jeffrey Jones, her daughter-in-law, Gloria Jones, and grandsons, Kennon Bowen and David Jones, III.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Providence United Methodist Church in Chiltons, VA with interment to follow in the church cemetery. There will be a reception in the church fellowship hall after the service. The Reverend Michael Liskiewicz will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

With the birds chirping, the warm sun, and a calm breeze, Daisy felt like she was in paradise. She loved the beautiful flowers and would watch the rabbits and hummingbirds in her yard. Daisy ran the Jordan store for many years and enjoyed socializing and cracking jokes with the customers she would see on a daily basis. In her downtime, she dabbled in needlepoint projects.
Daisy had a deep love for her grandchildren and her beloved dog, Angel. They meant the absolute world to her.
Daisy is survived by her son, Keith Saunders (Teresa) and her daughter, Stacie Saunders; her three granddaughters, Ashley Lape (Chris), Amy Saunders (Katelyn), and Kasey Conley; and her two great-grandchildren, Cannon and Isla Lape.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, James “Mann” Ortley Saunders; her son, Ray Saunders; one brother and one sister.
A funeral service for Daisy will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Welch Funeral Home- Montross Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Wade Wilkins officiating. He leaves his son William Roderick Tate and his wife Sharon; daughter Dawn Jackson and her husband David; his other daughter Elena Burgoyne and her husband Joseph; his six grandchildren and their spouses; six step grandchildren and their spouses; five great-grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; and his cat.
Born and raised in Washington, DC, the son of Bill and Lanier (Ford) Tate, he resided in Sterling, VA until his children were grown, then settled in Montross, VA.
Mr. Tate served in the Air Force, attended George Washington University, and worked 30 years for the National Airlines, then for Pan American Airlines when it bought out National. His job gave him the opportunity to travel (a love he has instilled into his family). As a single dad, he worked hard to make sure that his children had every opportunity to succeed.
Mr. Tate had so much love. He never met a person that he couldn’t talk to. He was kind, wise, compassionate, very generous, and a great story teller. He loved our Lord, our country, and kept us informed on current politics and the state of our nation.
He had season tickets to the Redskins for 30 years and rarely missed a game. He attended several Super Bowl games with his friends. At the invitation of his son, he attended a Tiger Cruise on the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) which was a true highlight in his life.
