Donald was an avid outdoorsman, that loved fishing and hunting, and tending his garden.
His spirit is free, his body can be laid to rest.

Obituary Preview: Sgt. Jason Lee Nielson, a revered veteran, cherished family man, and avid fisherman, left us on the 11th of May, 2024, after valiantly facing recurring battles with cancer. He was born on June 19, 1978, in Phoenix, AZ. His final days were spent in Milford, DE, surrounded by the love and care of his family and friends.
Jason's dedication to his country was extraordinary. In 2005, Jason was severely wounded while serving in Iraq. He was medically retired as a Sgt from the US Army. His service earned him two Purple Hearts, a testament to his bravery and resilience. Jason was blessed to be involved in many organizations for wounded veterans after his retirement.
Growing up, Jason had a passion for the outdoors, but it was fishing that captured his heart. He spent many peaceful days on the water and loved sharing his passion with his children, passing on this tradition and creating lasting memories. Those who knew him saw a fighter, he was relentless; not just on the battlefield, but also in overcoming his combat injuries and health challenges. As a loving husband, Jason was tenderly cared for by his devoted wife, Krista Lee Nielson, through most of his life and during his final journey.
Jason’s legacy lives on through his proud parents, Robert Nielson and Ann Nielson; his treasured children, Devin Varca, Hailey, Riley, and Madison Nielson; and his dear siblings, Melissa Owens, Heather Nielson, Jacob and Sabrina Sautter. His affectionate puppies and grandpuppy also feel his absence deeply.
Sgt. Jason Lee Nielson will be remembered as a hero who continued to protect, uplift, and inspire those around him, even when facing his toughest adversary. His memory will be a beacon of courage, selflessness, and love for all who had the honor of knowing him.

Jim was born in Drumright, Oklahoma, on June 2, 1942. As a child, his family relocated to Delaware where he lived in Delaware City, St.Georges and lastly Milford. It was in Delaware City where he met the love of his life, Corrine. They were married for 62 years and treasured their time together. Jim retired from Hewlett Packard-American Manufacturing Technologies after 43 years of dedicated service. He was a former member of the Delaware City Lions club and served as its president for some time. He was an avid fan of the University of Oklahoma sports. Most people would know him for his love for fishing, gardening and woodworking. He was supportive and caring as a father and grandfather and very proud of his family.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Corrine Goodman, parents, John and Francies Goodman, and biological father Earnest Brown.
He will be greatly missed by his sons: Brian (Lorraine) Goodman, Keith Goodman; grandchildren: Matthew (Allison) Goodman, Ryan (Rose) Goodman, Bradley Goodman, Randi Lynn (Rachel Blue); great grandchildren: Noah Goodman, August Goodman, Liam Blue; and sister; Shirley Rampey.

Obituary Preview: Jeffrey Allen Muncey, known affectionately as Jeff, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024, in Ellendale, DE. Born on June 21, 1965, in Milford, DE, Jeff was the cherished son of the late John E. and Gail S. (Rider) Muncey. His life was a bright beacon of love and joy to all who knew him.
For over 40 years, Jeff worked as a truck driver for various places, including Milford Fertilizer, Habnab, Coverdale, as well as running 3 of his own trucks. He also was a trusted truck driver for Art Collins, where he formed lasting friendships and bonds within the local community. A man of many interests, he relished time spent at the Harrington Casino, skillfully racing stock-cars, fishing on tranquil waters, and grilling to perfection. Yet, his favorite moments were those spent surrounded by the laughter and love of his granddaughters.
Jeff is survived by a loving family that includes his son Jordon Dutton and wife Amanda Nordberg; the mother of his son, Nicole Dutton-Muncey; and his adoring siblings, Shirley Muncey, Johnny Muncey, Debbie Morris, and Joey Muncey. His granddaughters, Addison and Willow, were the apples of his eye, and his devotion to them was unparalleled. Not to be forgotten, his loyal dog, Chevy, was a steadfast companion.

Joe was a super truck driver from a young age. He loved to relive his over-the-road days. He would tell stories about all his adventures. Joe had enjoyed the water, playing with his RC boats and crabbing. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and loved his dog. He will be truly missed.
In addition to his parents and grandparents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Susan. Joe is survived by his wife of 42 years Nancy; children Robert, Robin, Nelson, Renee, and two other children from his previous marriage; his siblings Bobby, Faye, Larry, Jerry, Gary, Penny, and Jeanie; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. “We love you, JoeJoe.”

She enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, knitting, and crocheting, and many other types of crafts. She always enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. She worked for Safeway, Marvel Insurance Agency, and most recently, the Milford School District in the child nutritional program.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Bobby R. Taulbee.
Shirley is survived by her son David (Carrie) Taulbee; her daughter Tracy (Lawrence) Grose; grandchildren: Amanda (Derek) Davidson, Lawrence Grose, Jr., Jaxon Taulbee, Savannah Conaway, and Hunter Conaway; great granddaughters: Olivia Davidson and Peyton Davidson; sister Patricia (Stanley) Johnson; and near and dear friend Carol (Donald) Wells.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 11:00am at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St. Milford, DE 19963. A time of visitation will be held prior from 10:00am-11:00am the same day. Interment will follow at Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

Dawn was born in Milford, DE, on March 10, 1936, to the late William H. and Jennie M. (Dodd) Cleaver. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth Hall, Alice Toler, and Marian Van Es.
Dawn grew up in the Milford area and graduated from Milford High School in 1954. Shortly after, she married her high school sweetheart, Douglas W. Ellingsworth on October 16, 1954.
Dawn enjoyed bowling, crafting, and square dancing. She was a Cub Scout den mother for Troop 116 for many years. She enjoyed her many trips to St. Petersburg, FL, Lancaster, PA, and Branson, MS with family and friends. She was secretary for Calvary United Methodist Church for over 40 years where she worked with several ministers, chaired many committees, and made many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas W. Ellingsworth of 70 years this October 2024; two sons, Gary (Debbie) Ellingsworth and Steve Ellingsworth; two grandsons, Matthew Ellingsworth (Nikki Spence) and Jeremy (Katelyn) Ellingsworth; and two great grandchildren, Beau Ellingsworth and Hailey Ellingsworth.

Phyllis was born in Milford, DE, on March 24, 1947 to the late George and Evelyn (Kemp) Phillips. Phyllis was raised in Ellendale during her childhood. While she will be remembered for many things, her meticulous attention to detail while cutting the grass will never be forgotten. Phyllis loved her family deeply; she would do anything for them, and she was always there for the ones she cared about. She worked at Mountaire Farms as a quality control technician for 20 years.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents: George and Evelyn Phillips; son, Frank Vadakin; siblings: Ruthann Jester, Ann Sherman, and George Phillips; granddaughter Julia Vadakin; and nephew, Jamie Phillips.
She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Leslie Lee Clayville; children; Russell Vadakin and Robert Vadakin; siblings: Tommy Phillips, Lonnie Phillips, Doug Phillips, Laura Phillips, and Martha Potwell; eight grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

William was born in Milford on February 15, 1940, to the late J. Clyde and Ethel G. (Hollinger) Draper.
William graduated from Milford High School in the Class of 1958. He married his wife Mary Ann on September 17, 1961. He honorably served his Country in the US Marine Corps and then Reserves for 8 years. Following his time in the military, he worked at Safeway as a meat cutter for 31 ½ years. He loved the great outdoors, evident through his memberships with the NRA and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and crabbing. He was also a member of the Milford Moose Lodge #2316 and American Legion Post #3 of Milford.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann (Davis) Draper; his children Alan W. Draper (Heidi) and Randall S. Draper; his brother Clyde W. Draper (Pat); and his grandchildren Skylar Draper and Levi Draper.

Obituary Preview: GEORGETOWN – Sara Virginia Lyons passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. She was 88.
Mrs. Lyons was born in Frederica, Delaware on September 6, 1935, the first-born child of Willard Isaac Stayton and Sara Virginia (Grant) Stayton of Milford. The cause of her death was congestive heart failure.
Virginia attended Milford Public Schools. She is preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Norman Willard Lyons, her parents and her oldest brother, Willard Stayton, Junior. Mr. and Mrs. Lyons owned and operated Georgetown Dry Cleaners on Race Street for 18 years. They attended the Church of God in Georgetown and Christ Evangelistic Church of Laurel, DE.
Mrs. Lyons was a kind, cheerful, industrious lady who exemplified self-sacrificial love. She collected all sorts of figurines and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also loved to sing in church, as well as with a local country group, who called themselves the “No Name Band”. Virginia was a talented fashion sketch artist and enjoyed tending to her flowers, cats and Pete the parakeet. She is survived by her five children: “Jim”, “Drew” (wife, Marta), Brenda, Jennifer (husband Don) Sullivan and Nancy all of whom, along with some fabulous home health aides, cared for her until her passing.
Besides her children, Ms. Lyons is survived by her brother Marvin Stayton, his wife, Wanda, their daughters, Angela and Melanie; and by seven grand-children (Chanda, Sarah, Jeremy, Evan, Chelsea, Victoria, Kristen ) and three great grand-children (Chesney, Eros and Noah). She is also survived by several nephews and a bunch of adoring nieces.
Her funeral, viewing and service, are at 11 AM and Noon on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Berry Short Funeral Home in Milford, Delaware. The interment is at Milford Community Cemetery (formerly Odd Fellows) on Walnut Street. There will be a remembrance dinner afterwards at Milford Church of Christ, Rt 113. Flowers are welcome at the funeral or you may make a donation to St. John’s Church in c/o Teresa Moore-Adams, 22910 Park Ave, Georgetown, DE 19947.

She took great pride in her home and the family she created.

Theodore “Ted” Franklin Hodgson, 77, of Felton, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Christiana Hospital in Newark.
Ted was born in Baltimore, MD, on January 18, 1947, to the late Theodore F., Sr. and Anna Belle (Long) Hodgson. Ted loved God, Family, and Country, and served in the Air Force and Reserves as MSgt. for 24 years. He was a jet engine mechanic and a carpenter. He enjoyed woodworking, designing, and building furniture, and because of these skills, he became a problem solver. Even when he and his wife, Cheryl, moved from Baltimore to Delaware, he would cross over the Bay Bridge many times to complete household repairs for his mother and sister. He was always ready to volunteer his help to his family and church family. He was a long-standing member of Milford Church of God.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Cheryl Ann (Darby) Hodgson; son Jeffery Hodgson of Milford; daughter Andrea Hutchinson of Dover; five grandchildren: Sara Huston of Milford, James Hutchinson of Wilmington, Noah Hodgson of Milford, Rebecca Hutchinson of Dover, and Julianna Hodgson of Milford; four great grandchildren: Rowan Hutson, Ella Hanna and Emma Hutchinson of Milford, and Penny Hutchinson of Wilmington; three sisters: Gloria Mullen of Milford, Carol Wilson of York, PA, and Joyce Saddler of Pasadena, MD; brother Roy Hodgson of PA.
Ted was loved so much by the family he married into: Wayne Darby of Tensen, FL, Cathy Tripp of Goldsboro, NC, Dennis and Bindy Darby of Godwin, NC, Denise Darby of New Bern, NC, Scott and Melissa Darby of La Grange, NC, and all his nephews and nieces. They will all miss him and his zany antics.
A celebration of life and military honors will be held on at noon on Monday, February 26, 2024 in the sanctuary of Milford Church of God, 500 N. Walnut St. Milford, DE 19963. A time of viewing will take place on the same day beginning at 11:00am. Interment is private.

Tom served honorably as a combat engineer in World War II, after the war he was a heavy equipment operator until age 90, a founding member of Greenbriar Hunting Club, and an avid outdoorsman. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents McKinley and Averla, and his son Edward.
He is survived by his wife of 77 years Gladys, his son Barry (Aileen), his daughter-in-law Donna, his grandchildren Chris, Ryan, Clay (Sarah), Jenna (Beau), and great-grandchildren Chase, Dylan, Behr, Buck, and Bennett.
Funeral services will be held at Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford, DE on Thursday, February 29th at 1pm with visitation at noon. Burial services will be at Milford Community Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Frederick Wayne Mills of Milford Delaware, passed away on 02/15/2024 peacefully after a longstanding battle with cancer at Polaris Healthcare & Rehabilitation. Although he lived there for just less than a year, the staff and residents at Polaris became a very loving supportive community for him and made his time there enjoyable in his final months.
Fred, 82 years old at the time of his passing, lived a full life and was loved by all who had met him. He was preceded in death by his parents Helen and Delbert Mills, and sister-in-law Joan Mills.
He is survived by his siblings Delbert (Sonny) Mills, James and Myra VanVorst, Sons Walter Mills, Samuel Mills and his 5 grandchildren: Nikki Gray, Zachary Mills, Brandon Mills, Luca Mills, and Emily Mills and great Grandchild Cael Quillen.
There will be a memorial held in honor of Fred at Berry-Short Funeral Home on Saturday March 2, 2024 at noon. A time of visitation will be held the same day beginning at 11:00 am.

Elouise was born in Milford, DE, on April 19, 1934, to the late Lester and Reita Louise (Parker) Bennett.
Elouise was a long-time member of the Milford Church of God and attended services faithfully prior to her illness. She began her career working in the office at Playtex before choosing to become a stay-at-home parent. When her children were all attending school, she began working for the State of Delaware for the Milford School District. She enjoyed hosting and attending family dinners, baking cakes, going to the campground sitting around the bonfire talking, laughing, and singing, and going to the beach. She loved her cats throughout the years, and especially adored her cat companion, Grump, who sat by her side until the very end. More than anything else, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband George N. Kenton, Sr., and her sister Ruth Aileen Aiken.
She will be greatly missed by her children G. Nelson Kenton, Jr. (Karen) of Ocala, FL, Rick Kenton (Kim) of Milford, DE, Marvin Kenton (Carmella) of Moses Lake, WA, and Rita Frost (Thad) of Milford DE; her 8 grandchildren Diana Conlon, Brandon Kenton, Lindsay Kenton, Tyler Kenton, Bethany Wybert, John Banks, Tim Frost, and Ryan Frost; her 3 great grandchildren Hayden Kenton, Gracie Kenton, and Briar Rose Wybert; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 12:00pm in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St. Milford, DE 19963. A time of visitation will be held on the same day from 11:00am-12:00pm. Interment will follow at Milford Community Cemetery.

Robert Joseph Bogan "Coffee Bob", age 89 of Milford, Delaware, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024 at Bayhealth Dover. He was born on November 5, 1934, to the late Edward W. and Grace Irene (Gordon) Bogan in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The family relocated to Delaware in August of 1945.
Robert had a distinguished military career, joining the Navy at the age of 17 and serving from 1952 to 1956. He continued his service in the Army Reserves from 1956 to 1958 and later joined the Coast Guard, where he served from 1958 to 1961. After his military service, Robert worked at Playtex in Dover, Delaware, where he dedicated himself until his retirement in 1997.
A devoted family man, Robert cherished his daughter, Bobbie Kirkpatrick, and son-in-law, James Kirkpatrick, of Greenwood, DE. He deeply loved his grandchildren, Megan Kirkpatrick of Lewes, DE, Matthew Kirkpatrick of Maple Shade, NJ, and Mackenzie Kirkpatrick of Lewes, DE. Robert is also survived by his sisters, Pat Andrews and Runae Green, along with numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his grand dogs (Woofies).
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nancy Lee (Carter) Bogan, brothers Edward Bogan, Raymond Bogan, John Bogan, and Ronald Bogan, and sisters Mary Propes and Grace Greenlee.
Robert found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed fishing, feeding and watching the birds, watching his grandchildren, and enjoyed spending his leisure hours watching his favorite shows on his TV. His love for his family knew no bounds, and he leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Saturday, February 24th, 2024 at 12:30pm at Avenue United Methodist Church 20 N. Church Street Milford, De. A time of visitation will be held on the same day from 11:30am-12:30pm.
Robert Joseph Bogan will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. May he rest in peace, his memory living on in the hearts of those he loved.

Obituary Preview: Brenda Jean (Parsons) Mariner, of Milford Delaware, passed on to her next life in the Kingdom of Heaven on February 5, 2024. Brenda passed peacefully surrounded by her husband (and loving caregiver) Chuck and their daughters whom she loved and cared for so deeply. Brenda was born to the late Joseph Parsons & June Parsons on January 13, 1963. She was a lifelong Milford resident, and was the middle child of seven children.
Brenda is known for her kind heart. Everyone that knew her, loved her. She was kind to everyone, no matter if she had known you for years or just met you 5 minutes ago. Her uplifting spirit and positive nature made her a wonderful mother, mommom, wife, sister, and friend.
Brenda loved spending time with her family in any way she could. She loved being outdoors with her family, going camping, boating, fishing and hunting together. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach and pool with her grandkids and loved to do crafts with them. When the girls were younger, she spent many summers at the Milford Little League ballpark watching them play softball, bringing snacks and drinks as the Team Mom or helping out in the concession stand. More recently, in the warm weather months you could often find her sitting on the back porch reading a good book and watching for hummingbirds.
She enjoyed taking photos and creating scrapbooks. Brenda always had a camera and never let a special moment go by uncaptured. She loved spending time in her craft room going through photos, reliving memories and special moments with her girls. Brenda was most proud of her daughters and their accomplishments. She absolutely loved her two girls and their families, they were her whole world. Brenda is survived by her husband of 34 years, Chuck Mariner; their daughters Nicole Mariner Quillen (G
ordy) and Morgan K. Vogel (Joey); two grandsons Cael and Griffin Quillen, four brothers Steve Parsons (Gail), Ron Parsons (Donna), Jay Parsons, Rick Parsons (Barb) as well as two sisters, Deb Viscuglia (Joe), and Fay Parsons (Martin). She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She leaves behind many friends; including her camping crew, scrapbooking “scrappy girls” and many other lifelong friends.
Brenda and her family would like to thank Dr. Cindy Siu, Bayhealth Sussex Oncology Team and Delaware Hospice for their unwavering support and care.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life on March 2nd, 2024 from 5-8pm at the Milford Elks Lodge.

He amassed an impressive collection of NASCAR model cars. He was an avid Phillies fan, and also enjoyed Wii Bowling at home.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, June C. Rust; his son-in-law, Rick Hazzard; his siblings, Fred Rust, Norman Rust, Edith Insley, and Charles Rust; and his grandchildren, Joanna and Joshua Smith.

He worked for many years as a carpenter in the construction industry, including with friend John P. Argo. He and his wife Marie would later own and operate local De-Lux Dairy Markets and, in later years, PrimeCare Medical Transport. Never one to be still, Bob enjoyed aviation and flying and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. His memberships also included, the Milford Elks #2401, Milford Moose #2316, and the DE State
Sportmen’s Association. When not in the air flying, Bob loved classic cars, woodworking, was an avid billiards player, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and snow skiing. He especially loved spending time with his family at their summer home at Lake Gaston, Virginia.
Bob is preceded in death by his father, Franklin Bradley and his wife Virginia; his mother, Ruth Appel Bohannon and her husband Jim; and a grandson, Lee Folke.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marie E. Frances was an active member of the Frederica Trinity United Methodist Church. And she especially enjoyed spending time with her loving family where their house was always filled with laughter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Frank Beebe; brother, James Abbott; niece Vonda Kay Abbott; son-in-law, John Shoemaker.
Frances was survived by her children, Craig Beebe (Eileen), Lynn Reynolds, and Donna Shoemaker; grandchildren, Ryan Beebe (Andrea), Craig Reynolds (Taylor); and great grandchildren, Tyler Beebe, Parker Beebe, Ethan Reynolds, and Adalynn Reynolds; and other extended family.
