Sammie Lee Mitchell Sr. - April 23, 1949 - January 22, 2022

Departed: 01/22/2022 (Clermont)
Obituary Preview: Sammie Lee Mitchell Sr., 72, of Groveland, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022, in Clermont, Florida.
On April 23, 1949 the world was blessed with a true Hero. Mr. Sammie Lee Mitchell Sr was born to the late Mr. Leroy Sr and Mrs. Olea Mitchell in Groveland, Florida. The youngest of five siblings, “Mitch” as he was affectionately known throughout the community, was the baby brother to Ernest Johnson Sr (Big Sonny), Lil Sonny Mitchell, who both proceeded him in death, and  Leroy Mitchell Sr (Datto) and Earnestine Green (BayBay) who are left to cherish his memory.
Mitch learned to love the Lord at an early age, and continued his loving relationship with God throughout his life, faithfully serving the Lord by becoming a Deacon at Mr. Pleasant AME.  As a child, he attended school in Groveland and Clermont, where he played football for the Mighty Lincoln Park Rams, and developed a love for fixing things and working on cars. Growing up Mitch was handsome, fun loving and a joy to be around.  His family was the highlight of his life, and he loved to laugh and enjoy himself around his children and friends.
After graduating from high school, Mitch entered the United States Army, where he courageously fought for his Country in Vietnam from 1969-1970. Following the war, he was honored with a commendation medal for Heroism, a testament to his bravery and strength. Over the years, Mitch was employed as a truck driver for Conley trucking, and also started his own business, Sam’s Auto- a full service mechanic shop.  He was a jack of all trades, a man of small statute but huge strength.
Sam married his high school sweetheart, Marsha, and they were blessed with 3 children, Samantha (Lamar) Rozier, Sammie Lee Mitchell Jr who proceeded him in death, and his baby girl named for his dear mother, Olea Mitchell. He was a proud grandfather of 9 grandchildren: Maritza, Meleisa, Marcini, Olan, Sammie, Brielle, Bryndan, Savannah and Miles. 4 Great grandchildren: Mya, Madison, McKenzie and Maddox. He was also a wonderful step father to Corrine Montgomery and step grandfather to Anthony, Marsha and James.  He was a devoted Godfather to his God son Walter Brown Jr and those he claimed as his own, Kashunda Cooper and Shameka Odum.  Sam was a hardworking man, a devoted father and a wonderful friend. On January 22, 2022, Sammie Mitchell Sr. answered the Lord’s call and transitioned to his Heavenly home, where he surely received a Hero’s welcome. He leaves a hole in the hearts and lives of those dearest to him, and we be deeply missed.  However, his memory and God’s Grace will continue to bring comfort and peace to those who loved and knew
