Departed: 01/25/2022 (Blue Hill)
Obituary Preview: PAUL FREDRICK KRUEGER
Paul Fredrick Krueger was born to Paul Johann Krueger and Elizabeth Ida VanBoening Krueger on September 24, 1923, at the family home near Blue Hill, Nebraska. He passed away peacefully after a brief bout of pneumonia on January 25, 2022, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, Nebraska, with family at his side.
Paul was a lifelong resident of Nebraska, growing up with his 10 siblings on a farm near Blue Hill. He met the love of his life, Dona Lee Metzgar, just three months before leaving to serve in World War II. For the next three years, as Paul served in the South Pacific, Dona corresponded with him by mail providing the hope and encouragement he needed to get through the war without ever receiving a leave home. The two were engaged long distance while Paul was stationed on the island of Saipan, and married in Hastings, Nebraska, on January 17, 1946, a few days after his return from the war.
Together Paul and Dona operated a farm near Bladen, Nebraska, where they raised their four children, Pamela, Nancy, Peggy and Paul. Much to Paul’s joy, the farming operation he launched continues thanks to his son Paul Krueger and grandsons Sam, Jared and Mitch. Throughout his long life, Paul was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill where he served on many boards. In addition, he was also active in the community, serving in a variety of capacities over the years for many organizations.
Paul was an honest, hardworking, kind and loyal man who loved and adored his wife and family, loved the farm, and enjoyed amazingly good health for all of his 98 years. Following Dona’s death in 2014, Paul was blessed to have his daughter Nancy Curry only one block away, making sure he could live happily in his home in Blue Hill as long as possible. All of Paul’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren adored him and will miss him greatly.
Paul is survived by his children, Pamela Kinney (Dan) of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Nancy Curry (Bill, deceased) of Blue Hill, Nebraska, Peggy Sloey (Dan) of Greeley, Colorado, and Paul D. Krueger (Barb) of Blue Hill, Nebraska; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Daniel Kinney (Jennifer) and children, Page Wiese (Trey) and Rylee of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Bill Curry (Tiffany) and children Luke, Katelyn and Mia of Albion, Nebraska;  Megan Taylor (Bob) and Collin of Gretna, Nebraska; Laura Thornburg (Brock) and children Jack and Lauren of Gretna, Nebraska; Leigh Bloomquist (Matt) and children Reghan, Wade and Brooke of Wausa, Nebraska; Sean Sloey (Cara) and children Stockton and Bryson of Wellington, Colorado; Taylor Sloey (Erik Yando) of Carrollton, Va;  Sam Krueger (Megan) and children Quinn and Remi of Blue Hill, Nebraska; Jared Krueger (Sami) and Foster of Blue Hill, Nebraska; and Mitch Krueger (Emma Dunbar) of Blue Hill, Nebraska.
Also surviving are his brothers, sister and sisters-in-law Glen and Kay Krueger, Hastings; Jim and Marilyn Krueger, Norfolk; Elaine and Bill Beezley, Hastings; Betty Krueger and Nancy Krueger, Hastings; Mariel Krueger and Janice Krueger, Blue Hill; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Because community transmission of SARS-Covid-2 virus remains extremely high in the South Heartland Health District, a private memorial service and burial will be held with Paul's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at Trinity Lutheran Church, Blue Hill, Nebraska with Rev. Jeffrey Kuddes officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Blue Hill, Nebraska.  Visitation will be held Sunday, January 30, 2022 from 1:00-8:00 p.m. at Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska.  Memorials can be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Blue Hill, Nebraska.  Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.mertenbutlermortuary.com.  Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.

Ramona Lucy Buschow - December 19, 1932 - December 08, 2021

Departed: 12/08/2021 (Blue Hill)
Obituary Preview: Ramona Lucy (Arterburn) Buschow was born December 19, 1932, to Albert (Tate) and Florence (Durdin) Arterburn on a farm in Webster County.  December 8, 2021, she left this world to be with God for eternity; she was 88.  Ramona was baptized and confirmed at Holy Trinity Church in Blue Hill.  Ramona started her education at School District #63 and finished at Blue Hill Community School.  She was married to Homer (Jake) Buschow on October 28, 1950 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Blue Hill, Nebraska; four boys were born from this union: Mike, Roger, Keith, and Jim.
During the first 10 years of her marriage, she was involved in the farming operation with her husband and started a family.  In the early '60s, Ramona started working in the school cafeteria preparing lunch for all the students (when meals were made from scratch).  She enjoyed being around all the children and finally retired some 40 years later.  Always willing to help, she made many trips to the nursing home to visit the residents and help them play bingo. The home acknowledged her dedication by presenting her with a certificate of appreciation.
Ramona was very involved with her family, taking the 4 boys to 4-H, scout meetings, and a busload of sporting events.  There was practice and games and a ton of dirty uniforms. At one point in her life, she would have 6 football uniforms a week to wash, and there was no way she would let a single grass stain remain.
Birthdays were important to her.  It didn’t matter how old the guess of honor was, mom would insist on a birthday party with cake and ice cream.
Ramona loved being a grandma.  She especially enjoyed rocking the babies, making them cookies, and spoiling them rotten.  She would never miss a birthday.
Ramona loved family get-togethers. In the earlier days, we would have family reunions out at the farm.  She would start preparing for the reunion months in advance. Pretty much driving us crazy with the work she wanted done before the reunion day. There would be mowing and painting and a list that seem to never stop.  She began cooking days ahead of time to make sure we had plenty of desserts to go around.  But it was all worth it to see her smile- hugging all those family visitors.
Ramona is survived by her four sons and their spouses, Mike and Liz Buschow, Keith and Patti Buschow, Jim and Julie Buschow all of Blue Hill, Nebraska and Roger and Lynn Buschow of Alpine, Wyoming; nine grandchildren, five step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and thirteen step great grandchildren.  Ramona is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Kenneth Gerhard Kirchner - January 30, 1928 - July 30, 2021

Departed: 07/30/2021 (Blue Hill)
Obituary Preview: Kenneth Gerhard Kirchner January 30, 1928 – July 30, 2021 Always in our hearts
Kenneth Gerhard Kirchner, age 93, passed away at Blue Hill Care Center on July 30, 2021 after a short illness. He was surrounded by his family as he walked into eternity with his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Kenneth was born on his family farm south of Lawrence, Nebraska on January 30, 1928. His parents were John and Clara Kirchner, who made the farmstead home for 8 children.  He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings (Eleanora, Walter, Lydia, Wilfred, Robert, Donald, and Mildred).
Ken graduated from Lawrence High School in 1945. He took over the family farm at age 19 due to his father’s early death.  He applied himself to his farm duties and was content raising his family with Mom and serving his church and local community. Ken served and attended Calvary Lutheran Church in Rosemont. On November 2, 1952, Kenneth married Margaret Dorothy Heineman and shared many adventures over the next 65 years. They raised seven children: Marvin (Carol) Kirchner – Kevin, Scott and Lisa; Wilbur (Patricia) Kirchner – Rebecca, Matthew, Rachel and Hannah; Connie (Courtney) Meyer – Caleb, Joshua and Anna; nephew Randall (Cindy) Linke – Misty, Mandy and Randall; Linda (Kyle) Hollman – Nora and Trent, James (Jackie) Kirchner – Joseph, Jami and Tara; and Beth (Scott) Bowman – Christine, Nathan and nieces Abigail and Olivia. Over the years Ken and Margaret delighted to watch their kids, grandkids, great-grandkids (14), and one great-great grandchild begin their own adventures in life, which was “icing on the cake” of lives well lived!
Kenneth had broad interests. He was a dreamer/doer - widely read in Christian & world history, economics, politics, technology, poetry, philosophy…and farming.  He was opinionated and vocal but loved the polemic (discourse) as much as the politics.  You could pick the topic and the position, and he would debate the other side.  He was a “go to” guy in the community for many construction/trade skills…as well as general wisdom.
Ken was a servant leader.  He was Sunday School superintendent in his church for over 25 years, representative to national church conventions, taught shop skills in 4-H, served on the local school board for 12 years, served on the Rural Electric Association BOD for 28 years…did the dishes and was always a ready hand to help neighbors.  He was Mom’s primary care giver during her illness until her death in 2018.
Dad loved Jesus…but wouldn’t say it that way.  He led his family as a Godly father - baptized and confirmed, disciplined and encouraged, cheered and celebrated, sacrificed and supported.  Family devotions were never missed.  He rarely said “I love you” which is just “not the German way”.  He occasionally said, “I’m proud of you”, but showed it much more frequently in other ways…bragging effusively about his children when they were not within ear shot.  He brightened when any of his children or grandchildren called and was an encourager as they faced life’s challenges. Ken blessed his family.  Love was unconditional, encouragement genuine and timely, and wise counsel available whenever needed.  He will be sorely missed by his kids and grandkids, extended family and many, many friends. He was at peace as his final days approached and believed with all his heart Jesus’ words to Martha in John 11: 25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (NIV)
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Saturday August 7, 2021 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rosemont, Nebraska.
