Obituary Preview: Kenneth Allen, 89, of Portsmouth, died on Sunday, April 17, 2022 at Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus. He was born February 7, 1933 in Portsmouth to the late Chester and Leona (Clark) Allen.
He was a United States Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War. He later went to Barber School where he worked and later owned Allen’s Barber Shop in Portsmouth.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lola (Gardner) Allen, his siblings; James Allen, Jerry Allen, Chester Allen Jr., Robert Allen, and Clarice Davis.
Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Allen of Columbus, two sisters, Doris Goines of San Dimas, CA and Shirley Jackson of Marina Del Rey, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Margaret V.L. Tyson officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Friendship. A visitation for friends and relatives will be on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Thrasher and Bonnie (Hoisington) Thrasher.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Thrasher, and two sisters; Pam Thrasher and Becky Newland.
Steve loved watching the Cincinnati Reds, he also loved to fish, garden, and to bake.
He is survived by his wife, Mollie (Blanton) Thrasher, two sons; Chris Gibson (Janice), of Friendship, and Bruce Blanton, of Portsmouth, a daughter, Nikki Bashaw (Jason), of West Portsmouth, six grandchildren; Alanah, Brittany, Whittney, Julie, Rebecca, and Heather, as well as two special nieces; Bethany and Rachel and a sister-in-law Karina Thrasher, of Cincinnati.
Services will be private and under the direction of Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth.

Obituary Preview: Angela Bryan Gorman, 91, of Portsmouth, passed away peacefully Tuesday April 5, 2022 in Dayton OH surrounded by the love of her family.
Angela was born April 27, 1930 in Belfast Northern Ireland, daughter of the late Henry and Kathleen Bryan.
Angela spent many hours in her youth dreaming of life in America.  In 1953, at age 23, Angela, her husband Joe, and twin baby daughters sailed the Atlantic to fulfill that dream. In her book, “An Irish American Dream”, Angela shared the story of her Irish childhood, her journey to America, and the joys and struggles of life in her new country.
Besides being an author, Angela worked at Foodland and in the office of the Ramada Inn.  She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, where she loved participating in the annual Irish Festival, contributing vast numbers of her famous Irish shortbread cookies.
Angela is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Joseph (“Irish”), daughter Sonia Ling, as well as her 10 siblings, William, Josephine, Stella, Lawrence, Sylvia, Philomena, Kitty, Aiden, Teddy, and Ralph.
She is survived by daughters Linda (Mike) Salem, Joyce Winters, Colleen (Ted) Zombek, grandchildren Shaun, Heather, Brian, Angie, Chris, Courtney, Erica, and Scott, 12 great grandchildren, and dear friends Tom and Angie Arthur.

Coburn and to Cora Howard Coburn of Portsmouth.  He was a 1963 graduate of Portsmouth High School and also graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor's degree.
He retired from Portsmouth Receiving Hospital 27 years ago.
Jim is survived by his mother, Cora Coburn, his wife of 53 years, Sharon Ward Coburn, a son, Michael Coburn and wife Tracey of Lucasville, a daughter, Kelly Burich and husband Chris of Powell, three granddaughters; Courtney Marasek (Eric) of McDermott, Hillary Billitter (Donald) of West Portsmouth, and Alex Burich of Powell, four beloved great-grandchildren; Zeke and Ellie Marasek and Remy and Paisley Billitter. He is also survived by an aunt, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He loved his family dearly.
In addition to his father, Jim was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Arabella Marasek, and several aunts and uncles.
Graveside funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace with Rick Phillips officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth.

She was born April 12, 1954 in Portsmouth, to the late Vince and Catherine (Mershon) Tovine.
Deborah loved horses and her gardening. She especially loved her time at her arts and crafts store in Dublin. However, she was most proud of her family, whom she loved dearly.
She is survived by her three children; Joshua Russell of Seattle, WA, Jessie Russell of Jupiter, FL, and Jenny Russell of Seattle,WA, and a grandson, Nicholas Russell. She is also survived by her two brothers, Vince Joseph “VJ” Tovine II (Stephanie) of Lewis Center, OH and Victor Tovine (Tama Fraley) of Portsmouth, OH.
A Memorial service will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth. A visitation for friends and family will be from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service at 3:00 P.M.

Autumn Jane most enjoyed music, cuddles, her stuffed animal named Slothy, bubbles, and porch time with her favorite nurses.
A Celebration of Life will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Matt Rawlings sharing words of comfort at 6:00 PM.

He was employed by the City of Portsmouth, where he maintained the grounds at Greenlawn Cemetery. Luke was a former TSgt in the U.S. Air Force, proudly serving from 2000 to 2014. He graduated in 1999 from Valley High School. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, playing the drums, and being a father.
In addition to his mother Jerri Lee, he was preceded in death by his grandparents Gene and Ruth May, Robert and Stella June Shaw, and cousin Kelly Dawn Euton Bowling.
Luke is survived by his son, Easton Wyatt May, 10, of Navarre, Florida; father Dennis (Sandy) May of Minford; one sister Nikki (Dwayne) Spradlin of Wheelersburg; cousins Travis (Heather) Euton, Keldon Bowling, Crystal (Shad) Conn, Heath (Keri) Chamberlin, Tiffany Chamberlin, and Stephanie Chamberlin; aunts Crystal (Mark) Chamberlin of Wheelersburg, and Sharon Wright of Wheaton, IL; uncle Gary (Pam) Shaw of Lucasville; niece Kelsey Spradlin, as well as other extended family members and loved ones.

He is survived by a sister, Karen DiTraglia (John), of Portsmouth, an uncle, John vonLuhrte, a sister-in-law, Janet Wallace, seven nieces and nephews; Mary Beth Mader, Tim Thacker, Keri Nelson, Maggie Hill, Christopher Wallace, Michelle Emnett, and Leigh Ann DeHass, fourteen great-nephews and nieces; Matthew Mader, Michael Mader, Ben Mader, Olivia Nelson, Kathryn Nelson, Owen Hill, Hayden Hill, Alexandra Wallace, Charlotte Wallace, Michael Wallace, Logan Emnett, and Elliott DeHass, as well as four great-great-nieces and nephews; Piper Mader, Willow Mader, Madi Nelson, Hudson Mader and nine special cousins; Karl vonLuhrte, Anne vonLuhrte, Suzanne Himes, Mark vonLuhrte, Sydney Himes, Michael Himes, Gabriel Himes, and Julia Himes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 12, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Portsmouth with Rev. David Glockner officiating.  Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Karen (Burns) Parker, son, Jamie Parker (Michelle), of Portsmouth, and four grandchildren, Aeriel Parker, Devin Parker, Colin Parker, and Blake Parker.

Carol had worked at Professional Case Management, Best Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Southern Ohio Medical Center.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Swords, two brothers: James and Kenneth, five sisters; Penny, Shirley, Patty, Darka, and Brenda.
Bo was a forklift operator and worked at Taylor Lumber for many years.  He was a die-hard Atlanta Falcons fan, an avid sports collector, as well as a video game enthusiast.  He could talk to you for hours and make you laugh, he was never afraid to offer his opinion either.  Bo was loved and will be dearly missed by his many friends and family.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Reed, of West Portsmouth, two grandchildren; Carla and Cevin, whom he spoiled as much as he could with his love and attention.  He is also survived by two brothers; Frank and Robert, a sister, Mary, also known as Aunt Marge, who was always willing to help him, and a special nephew, Kenneth “Scoob” Brannan for giving him more time in life.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Robert Coffey officiating.  Visitation for family and friends will be from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM on Saturday prior to the funeral.  Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in South Shore, KY.

She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, owner of Pam’s Tax Service, and a babysitter for numerous children over the years.  She was the most amazing wife and mother.  She always put God first, then her loving husband and children.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping, reading, but her great enjoyment was attending Church.  She dearly loved her Church family and had a great appreciation for her Pastor, Rick Phillips.
She is survived by the love of her life of 51 years, Adrian “Sam” Kessinger, her two children, Bryan (Frannie) Kessinger of Stout and Carrie (J.B.) Kessinger-Berry of Friendship; six grandchildren who were the light of her life, Nicholas Kessinger, Gabby (Jonathan) Stevens, Josie Berry, Bryson Kessinger, Logan Kessinger, and Samuel Berry; a brother, Jack (Mary Ann) Nagel of Las Vegas, Nevada, two sisters-in-law, Beverly Kessinger of Friendship and Judy Kessinger of Winston Salem, North Carolina; her extended family, Terri Collins of Sciotoville, and Brenda Haynes of West Portsmouth, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her special friends, Betty Foster, and Wendy Essman, Kady Essman-Lang, and Aliza Lang, who she loved as if they were her own.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Pastor Rick Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery.
A visitation for friends and family will be on Tuesday evening from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home, and again on Wednesday, one hour before the service.
