Obituary Preview: Brian F. Wolf, 52, of Racine, Wisconsin, formerly of Rock Falls, died on Monday, May 20, 2024 at his home.
He was born on March 28, 1972, in Rockford, the son of Duane and Janet (Germanson) Wolf. Brian was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers fan. He was a “Ford” guy, and his Mustang was his pride and joy. Brian often used the phrase, “Lord Have Mercy” which will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his parents, Duane (Janet) Wolf of Rock Falls; one son, Kayden Wolf of Walnut, IL; two sisters, Ashley (Dustin Zigler) Wolf of Rock Falls, Amy (Darrin) Driscoll of Sterling; one niece, Abigail Driscoll; one nephew, Jonathan Zigler.
He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; three uncles; special friend, Stephanie.
A gathering of friends and family will take place on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 4PM-6PM at McDonald Funeral Home of Rock Falls. Cremation rites have been accorded. Private burial will take place at a later date.

Jim was born September 13, 1947 in LaSalle, IL, the son of James and Dorothy (Rutledge) Miller. He married Karen Castle on January 24, 1970 in Dixon. Jim served in the US Army, was a Lee County Deputy Sherriff, was the owner and operator of Branson Electric in Dixon, and for the last 20 years, he was a project manager in the Chicago area.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Miller of North Aurora; two daughters, Courtney (Nathan) Soesbe of Naperville and Colby (Bryan) Suits of Sugar Grove; nine siblings, Joyce (Ed) Ural of Madeira Beach, FL, Nancy (Gordy) Grotti of LaSalle, Rosemary (Ron) Castle of Polo, Bill (Jean) Miller of Henderson, NV, Diane (Al) Ogburn of Nachusa, Mike (Eleanor) Miller of Bloomington, Pat (Tonya Angell) Miller of Dixon, Tina Saville of Dixon, and Traci (Marty) McCardle of Daphne, AL; four grandchildren, Gracie (Anthony Gregorio) Rios of St. Petersburg, FL, Rylan Suits of Sugar Grove, Sophie Rios of Naperville, and Maya Suits of Sugar Grove; and two step grandchildren, Ella Soesbe and George Soesbe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Randy Miller.

Obituary Preview: Rita Jean Heeren was born August 19th, 1932 in Harmon, IL, the daughter of Ervin and Marie (Schauff) Henry. She attended St. Mary’s School and St. Mary’s Church. She graduated from Catholic Community and attended Webster Groves College in Webster Groves, Missouri with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught at St. Mary’s School in Sterling for 7 years and substituted at St. Andrews in Rock Falls. Rita married Norman “Butch” P. Heeren August 16th, 1958 in St. Mary’s Church. They loved to travel and took many adventures together.
She is survived by 2 brothers, Rob Henry of Arizona and Tom (Renee) Henry of Rock Falls. She has several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 brothers, Joseph Henry and James Henry; and 1 sister, Irene Burdick. She was a loving wife, aunt, Godmother, friend, neighbor and teacher to everyone.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tampico. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM with The Very Reverend James R. Keenan officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tampico.
Memorials have been established to St. Mary’s Church in Sterling and St. Mary’s School in Sterling.

Obituary Preview: DIXON – Kathleen A. Schultz, age 62, passed away May 13, 2024 at the Serenity Hospice and Home after a 2 year battle with breast cancer.
Kathleen was born on June 5, 1961 at the Home Hospital in Sterling to Robert and Mary Kay (Fitzgerald) Schultz. She graduated in 1979 from Sterling High School and then attended the University of Arizona where she studied what she loved, Journalism. She spent her whole life in the newspaper business as a Columnist, Reporter, Copy Editor and Editor. There was no part of the business she was afraid to do. First in Arizona then California, Montana and finally Illinois when she returned home to Sterling in 2005. While holding many positions in the Daily Gazette / Sauk Valley Media her passion was court reporting. She wasn’t afraid to ask what needed to be asked, to hound anyone to get the facts even if it ruffled a few feathers. Her passion was the story and to tell it with facts and compassion.
Survivors include her children, Christopher Adam Haugen of Dixon, Joey and Christie Haugen both of Sterling; her siblings, James Schultz, Michael Schultz, Joan Gascoigne, Christine (John) Wheaton, Steve Schultz and Jeffery Schultz all of Sterling, Susan (Brett) Farrell of Milledgeville.
Cremation rites have been accorded. There are no services planned. Arrangements were completed by the McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls.
Memorial donations in her honor can be made to Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon.

She is survived by her husband of Sterling; two daughters, Tori Long and Kaiya Walker both of Sterling; step daughter, Tessa (Ricky) Smith of Dixon; step son, Sullivan Walker of Rock Falls; her mother, Verna (Joseph French) Jones of Polo; two brothers, Nicholas (Megan) Jones of Haldane and Christopher (Yanel) Jones of Franklin Grove; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sharon (Seeley) Walker and Kevin Walker; and eight grandchildren, Liliana Long, Isla Long, Katerina Long, Mason Dietrich, Mia Dietrich, Maverick Smith, Myles Smith, and Marcus Smith.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, James Jones.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 from 10:00 – Noon at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.

Rozann was a lover of all animals, but particularly enjoyed dogs. She also enjoyed baking cakes.
Survivors include her husband, Bill, of Rock Falls; one daughter, Angela (Andy) Sucher, of Milledgeville; on son, Anthony (Charlene) Marweg, of Platteville, WI; two sisters, Diana Henson, of FL, and Dorothy (Mike) Burkholder, of Sterling; six grandchildren, Alex Sucher, of Sterling, AJ Sucher, of Milledgeville, Austin (Josie) Sucher, of Freeport, Allison Sucher, of Milledgeville, Ryan Marweg, and Rachael Marweg, both of Platteville, WI; and three great grandchildren, Aubrey, Michael, and Iris Sucher.

Obituary Preview: Suzanne M. Haan, 86, of Sterling, died on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Rock River Hospice & Home.
She was born on July 23, 1937, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Muriel Rowe Sprengelmeyer. She married Harvey Haan on March 10, 1955, in Morrison. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2003. Sue worked for Knusten Cabinets and later worked at Dana Corporation for many years before retiring. After retirement, she volunteered at F.I.S.H Food Pantry, The Emporium and cooked for church luncheons. Sue and Harvey enjoyed Card Club with friends. She also enjoyed gardening, bowling, and day trips with her girlfriends, cooking, and vacationing at Mogasheen Resort, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She always made sure that anyone who stopped by for a visit was properly fed. She was a kind soul who would do anything for anyone. To know her was to love her. Sue, also known as “Granny,” will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sue is survived by two daughters, Julie Babin of Rock Falls, and Kay (Monte) Eldert of Lake Geneva; one Son, Steve (Jennifer) Haan of Coleta; one sister, Sandi (Larry) Rice of Plainfield, IL; nine grandchildren, Ben (Gina) Babin of Fairhope, AL, Carie (Sam) Ramirez of Sterling, Adam Eldert of Janesville, WI, Megan Eldert of Burlington, WI, Rachel (Clayton) Brunger of East Troy, WI, Tanya (Mario) Balistreri, Natasha Haan both of Milwaukee, WI, Cami Yenney of Mt. Carroll, Demi Ingram of Prophetstown and 14 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Karin Haan, one granddaughter, Stacy Babin, and one son-in-law, Ross Babin.
Visitation will be held Wednesday May 15, 2024 from 11 AM – 1 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls. Funeral services will follow at 1 PM with the Reverend Thomas Doyle, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Burial will conclude East Genesee Cemetery.

Donna attended Dixon, IL schools and was a 1966 graduate of Newman Central Catholic High School in Sterling. She later worked as a Nail Technician until her retirement in 2008
Donna leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to her family. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, unwavering love for her family and devotion to her faith and church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, her four children: Todd (Las) O’Brien of Grayslake, Thad (Patty) O’Brien of Sterling, Toby (Jill) O’Brien of Rock Falls and Trish (Alex) Tejeda of Mission Viejo, CA; she was a cherished grandmother to twelve and great grandmother to seven; her sisters: Lyn (Rick) Olsen of Rockford, IL, and Margo (Leonard) Chattic of Montgomery, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father in law and her brother in infancy.
A gathering of friends and family will take place on Saturday June 15, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 11:45 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling. He was known to be a jokester, and enjoyed golfing with his buddies.
Survivors include one daughter, Lacy (Joe) Renner, of Rock Falls; one son, Ronnie Hughes Jr., of Sterling; one sister, Jan (Rick) Cupp, of FL; one brother, Deron (Melanie) Hughes, of Sterling; six grandchildren, Seth, Raistlin, Elliott, Allie, Julia, and Emma; niece, Brooke White; and nephew, Jordan White, both of FL.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Everrett Hughes.

Survivors include his six children, Todd (Chris) Beck of Sterling, Tally (Mike) Reed of Carterville, IL, Tori Almanza of Sturgis, South Dakota, Tana (Todd) Coward of Rock Falls, Tayne (David) Austin of Rock Falls, and Treasure (Tony) Velazquez of Rock Falls; one sister, Barb (Don) Doty of Manteno, IL; twenty grandchildren; and thirty-eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; three brothers; and one grandson, Paul Johnson.
Per Earl’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded with the McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Falls.

Obituary Preview: Debra Joe Galvan took her last breath while at home with her famiy on the night of Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
Debra was born on August 15, 1952 to Roland and Melba Conkling. Debra Joe was a mother whose morals and family values were that of unconditional love. Debra experienced her life not only as a mother, but as a wife, a sister, adored aunt, and always a friend. Debra welcomed all with an open heart and an open mind. She retired from Sterling Pavilion where she worked alongside her daughter Alison for many years. In her years working as a nurse, her compassion and presence alone, brought joy to the many residents she took care of. After retiring, she moved to Florida for a bit and got to spend quality time on the beach with her longtime friend, Becky Morrow. She later returned home to her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Nicholas Galvan, Rick Chaffee her longtime friend and also the father of her children, Alison and Zachary Chaffee. Debra is also survived by grandchildren and family, Mazzi Chaffee, Eliza Lorenzy-Chaffee, Alexander Chaffee, Declan Williams, Mindy and Janiya, Samantha and Landon, Gracie and Gregory Williams, and Jill and Jon Conkling.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Linda and Rollie Conkling.
Cremation rites have been accorded with the McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Falls.

Obituary Preview: On May 8th, 2024, the sky was graced with another star as Diane Marie (Abell) Garza (65) passed away in the loving embrace of her family, taking along with her all the smiles, love, and memories that made up her heart, carrying them into the embrace of those who journeyed ahead of her. Diane drove the PLT special ed bus for 20+ years, leaving an imprint of her heart with each child and a lasting impression with everyone else. Diane is survived by her loving husband, Rosendo Joseph Garza, Jr., her devoted son Nathan Anthony Garza, and her cherished grandson Elyzum Joseph Garza. “For the last eight years; I had my mom to myself, now she returns as a mother to my brother Nicholas Joseph Garza, who preceded her in death on December 17, 2015, and whom she missed deeply every single day.”
Born on April 3rd, 1959, Diane, from the very beginning, brought joy and laughter into the world. Her love echoed like music in our hearts, her smile, like a shooting star, connected her world with ours, while her ability to find beauty beyond our flaws was a gift she shared with open arms. Her journey was one of boundless love and enduring strength. As we gather together in this time of hardship, let's remember that her light continues to shine brightly in our memories and alongside the love we share with one another.

He was born November 23, 1949 in Sterling, the son of Lloyd and Dorothy (Alexander) Shoffner. He had 3 siblings: Gayle Ledford of Sterling, Jody (Gary) Fargher of Rock Falls and Timothy (Pam) Shoffner of Sterling. He married Darlene (Propheter) Henson on April 25, 2015. He has three sons: Robbie (Nikki) Shoffner of Rock Falls, Eric (Jody) Shoffner of Dixon, John (Denise) Marschang of Goshen, IN.; four daughters: Wendy Pearson of Chandler, AZ., Carol (Walter) Schultz of Tampico, Tammy (Jack) Duncan of Rock Falls, and Sara (Chiara) Piehler of Jenks, OK. He has several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also has nieces and nephews especially one nephew that will miss him dearly. Niel attended church with his grandparents at the First Congregational UCC Church in Rock Falls. As he got older he worked as a teen leader there. He was in the Boy Scouts when he was young and did the summer camp outs. Niel enjoyed camping, and loved Fishing.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the US Navy for 23 years. He was also a member of the Gold Wing Motorcycle club for years. Niel made and played Native American Flutes. In 2015 He became a full time Pastor in Savanna, IL., at the Community UCC Church. He was there for 6 years. In 2021, Niel returned back to his home Church -First Congregational UCC Church in Rock Falls as Pastor.
He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by grandparents, parents and one niece.

A gathering of friends and family will take place on Saturday May 18, 2024 from 9-11 AM at the First Congregational – UCC of Rock Falls. Memorials services will follow at 11 AM. Military honors will conclude the services outside the church.

JoAnn was born February 5, 1944 in Xenia, IL and was the oldest daughter of Howard and Dorothy (Hays) Jones. JoAnn attended elementary school in Xenia and Prophetstown Elementary and High School. She worked for 32 years at the Morrison General Electric Company retiring in 1997. She enjoyed music and followed many of the country musicians. Her favorite being Brenda Lee who became a good friend to JoAnn. She was a wonderful friend to many and was a loving aunt and great aunt to her many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by five brothers, Dale L. (Nancy) Jones of Copperas Cove, TX, Warren D. (Vicki Beien) Jones of Sterling, Danny L. (Sharon Parry) Jones of Rock Falls, David L. (Marcy) Jones of Chico, CA, and Jerry D. (Karen) Jones of Dixon; one sister, Betty L. Schutt of Rock Falls; longtime friend, Carole S. Harrington of Rock Falls; many nieces and nephews; and her little dog, Fabian.

At Kengela’s request, there will be no funeral services with cremation to take place and that her life to be celebrated privately by friends and family.

Marie and Phil owned and operated Young’s Bakery for 19 years. Marie shared a special connection with her customers, who often still requested her sweet treats! Following that time, Marie enjoyed her work at Julie’s Preschool and Daycare in Sterling for 23 years, retiring at the age of 81. The children she cared for lovingly referred to her as “Grandma Re.” Marie enjoyed her flowers, but most of all she loved and cared for her family. Survivors include her husband, Phil Young, of Chillicothe; one daughter, Roni Chavez (Bill), of Sterling;
two sons, Donald Geiger (Billie), of Coleta, and Philip Young (Jerry), of Chillicothe; one sister, Dorothy Denny, of Rock Falls; one brother, Wayne Bopes (Marilyn), of Princeton; one granddaughter, Brandi Duchay (Dustin) ; and two great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Issac Duchay, all of Rock Falls.

She resided at 901 W 10th Street, Rock Falls, Il for over 50 years with her husband, Rowland Gillette who preceded her in death in 2021. They raised their family in this home. Dawn’s life was first supporting her husband and raising seven children. She was always the fun grandma that was a lighthouse in helping anyone who asked. She was a survivor that overcame many obstacles in her life, always landing on her feet.
She was born on June 3, 1939, to Ward and Dorothy (DeShazo) Bucher. She and Rowland celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2019. She was a graduate of Rock Falls High School. She met her husband while he was home on leave from the Air Force, and they were married in 1959. They resided in Rock Falls their entire life. They were both very involved in the Rock Falls Community making it a better place. You may recognize Dawn from her work at the Sterling Walmart in Customer Service, work she enjoyed for over 20 yrs. She was very involved in the Newman High School rummage sales as a chairperson for years, as well as volunteering at St. Andrews School Bingo and other fundraising. Dawn also opened her home to many children, on top of her own seven, that were brought home by her husband during his police careers days, when they needed a home temporarily. She never said no to a child in need. She enjoyed antiquing and refinishing them. She was an avid basketball follower and loved Larry Bird!! She was famous for listening at the kitchen table with her grandchildren when they stayed over until late in the early morning hours. Her heart and ears were always open and listening. She enjoyed teaching her children and grandchildren to make her famous Sour Cream Cookies and Chicken Noodles and Dumplings, some of the most cherished family recipes. Family and community were her passions. Dressing up for Halloween was a specialty and she loved to support her family and was usually the last one to leave an event.
She is survived by her seven children, Tim Gillette of Phoenix, AZ, Terry Gillette (Carla) of Saguache, CO, Tony Gillette (Michele) of Sterling, IL, Theresa Laufenberg (Tom) of Apache Junction, AZ, Todd Gillette (Lorna), Easley, SC, Trent Gillette (Kelly) of Rock Falls, IL, and Traci Ramirez (Joel) of Scottsdale, AZ. Also 23 grandchildren, 38 great children and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother Darwin Bucher.
The public celebration of life will be June 29, 2024, from 1pm to 5 pm at Emerson Pub, (old Long Shots) 3312 West Rock Falls Road, Rock Falls, Il.
Thank you to the staff of Allure of Prophetstown and the VITAS Hospice Health Care for making her stay there very pleasant. A Memorial will be established in her name.

Survivors include her husband, Peter; son Bret (Jennifer) Derrickson of Warrenville; brother Dave Carter of Sterling; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 4 step grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Thomas Carter.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 1, 2024 from 10 AM - 10:45 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church followed by the Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in the church, with the Reverend Richard M. Russo officiating. Burial will conclude at Calvary Cemetery, Sterling.

Patty leaves behind her loving sister, Cathy (H.S. Skinner); niece, Tara Jackley; and her nephew, Connor. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Cal Elliott; and sister, Debbie Jackley Brownell.
Per Patty’s wishes, there will be no services. Cremation rites have been accorded with the McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Falls.

Dan was born November 3, 1960, in Canton, IL, the third son of Philip S. and Barbara R. Osborn.
Surviving is his wife Ann (McKeown); sons Samuel and Andrew and brothers Paul (Linda) and David, both of Sterling. Also surviving are stepchildren Lucas (Michelle) and Alicia (Marty) Pauley and Lucas’ children Olivia and Nolan, many adoring nieces and nephews, as well as his Aunt Greta Gay Kumlander and Uncle Rudy Reed, and many many cousins as his mother Barbara was one of fourteen children.
Dan attended elementary and high school in Sterling after his family moved there in the summer of 1966 when his dad Phil became the first Dean of Instruction at Sauk Valley Community College. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1979 where he was active in tennis and speech winning a state championship in 1978 in Humorous Interpretation, a performance he proudly recreated at the grand opening of the Sterling Centennial Auditorium in 1998.
Dan attended the University of Illinois for three years, then graduated from Western Illinois and got his masters degree from Northwestern University.
Dan raised his two boys as a single parent in Collierville, Tennessee, outside of Memphis, after the sudden loss of their mother Ellen in 2009. For many years, Dan was the announcer at Center Court at the U.S. National Indoor Tennis Tournament hosted in Memphis. He joyously performed the wedding ceremonies for his niece Hilary (Grant) Wahlheim and nephew P.J. (Macy) Osborn.
Dan was blessed at his 40th high school reunion with reconnecting with classmate Ann McKeown and they were married April 29, 2022, and Dan and the boys moved from Tennessee back to the Sauk Valley and Dixon where he embraced becoming a brother, uncle, parent and grandparent and great-grandparent in the loving McKeown family as well as having an opportunity to spend more time with Dave, Paul and Linda.
The family asks that memorials in Dan’s name be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Sauk Valley Community College Foundation Impact Program.

He is a retired member of the Midwest Mulisha and enjoyed spending time with his family at Sharp’s Peace of Happyness, attending car shows with his dad in their ’53 GMC, mowing his land, his tractor “Miss Kitty” and riding Harleys with his daughter, Erin.
He is survived by his wife, Melody Sharp of Sterling; his parents of Sterling; two daughters, Molly “Chopper” (Kalib) Helms of Chadwick and Erin “Goosey” (Trae “T-rae” Tiesman) Sharp of Rock Falls; one sister, Teresa Clasen of Plainfield; one brother, Jason (Julie) Sharp of Blaine, MN; seven grandchildren, Rylie Mae (his saving grace), Kalvin, Kollyns, Rylee, Ryker, Isaac, and Isabel; his step sons, Stephon Penaflor and Zach (April) Wade both of Sterling; Tony, Ariel, Braden “B” and Leira Denning of Walnut; and his dog, Opie “Meathead”, his wingman.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Midwest Mulisha Clubhouse, 1216 W. 5th Street in Sterling. A memorial ride will follow the service, weather permitting.
