Donald Lee Peterson - December 29, 1928 - November 07, 2017

Departed: 11/07/2017 (Forest Lake )
Obituary Preview: Donald Peterson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 07, 2017, at the age of 88.
Preceded in death by wife, Barbara. Donald and Barbara were married 64 years.
Last year Donald was able to join eight other fellow classmates in Braham, MN for his 70th class reunion.
Donald is remembered by his sons Craig, Michael, David and his daughter-in-law Jan and his brother Eugene of Cambridge, MN and sister-in-law Wanda of Cloquet, MN. He leaves many fond memories behind for his two grandsons Eric and Marty. They will deeply miss him. They both brought much joy to his life along with Eric’s girlfriend Nicole.
Donald’s last years were spent at River Village in Northeast Minneapolis where he had the chance to meet and tell his many stories of his life to his new friends. He was especially lucky to have special aide Nicole Grack while he resided at River Village.
Donald’s father worked for the railroad and Donald came into this world while on a train to Tacoma, WA. This might have been where Donald got his love for travel. He enjoyed working and traveling the Midwest area selling seed while working for Funks and Mallard Seed Company. Donald was especially fond of working the exhibit booth for Funk at the Minnesota State Fair each year also. He met many people over the years through his travels and business and anyone that knew Donald knew he had a gift to talk and tell stories and loved sharing his adventures and stories.
Donald always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. He liked nothing better than engaging an interesting conversation with a good friend, a new acquaintance or a total stranger. It really didn’t matter who it was.
Anyone who got to know Donald and had the opportunity to visit with him all knew it was best to not bring up politics because when it came to politics it was Donald’s view and ONLY Donald’s view so it was best left alone.
When Donald retired Donald and Barbara drove to Florida for fifteen years to enjoy the warmer weather during the winter months. Donald kept himself busy working at the Cleveland Indians Spring Training Camp parking cars and meeting a wide assortment of people and among them some of the ball players.
Donald would wait for his two grandsons to come to Florida each year to pluck those oranges off the trees and set those boys on the counter just as fast to show them how fresh orange juice was made! A memory the boys won’t forget. He also loved showing those boys off to all their friends.
Another noteworthy thing Donald especially enjoyed is having family and friends to their home Forest Lake to watch the 4th of July parade. He would go out on Main Street on the 4th of July by 5 AM to set MANY chairs out for company and boy if anyone moved one chair he knew it. He will be deeply missed but not forgotten!

James "Jim" Paul Ralidak - April 15, 1944 - October 30, 2017

Departed: 10/30/2017 (Forest Lake )
Obituary Preview: James Paul Ralidak was born in Duluth on April 15, 1944 to Peter and Margaret Ralidak. He grew up in Meadowlands with his three sisters Carol, Mary, and Barbara, and his brother Dan. James graduated from Toivola Meadowlands High School in 1962.
James moved to the Twin Cities to start his career in the packaging industry. He resided in Wyoming, MN and had three beautiful children: Kristi, Scott, and Jason. The neighborhood was what every neighborhood should be- fun, friends, and parties. Playing horseshoes and having a beer after work with Charlie and Dave was a daily ritual. James began his career at Delkor industries and moved on to Doboy Packaging Machinery (Bosch) as Sales Engineer.
James would often take fishing trips to Lake of the Woods with his brother Dan. Sometimes the boat never made it into the water. There were many trips throughout the summers to South Dakota with Bill, Larry, and Scott for walleye fishing. Then in the fall, time was spent pheasant hunting and bow hunting and into rifle hunting for the big buck. Bunny hunts in the spring were also a favorite, but not that many bunnies were actually hunted. It was mostly Bloody Mary time.
All in all, you could say James was an avid hunter and fisherman. He believed strongly in the right to bear arms. He enjoyed time spent with his sons Scott and Jason, passing down his knowledge of hunting. There was a moose hunt in Canada and an elk hunt in New Mexico. James and Kathy took many winter vacations to Jamaica, Punta Gorda, Puerto Plata, and Baja, CA. During these trips, a couple blue marlin made it into the boat. A trip to Alaska was the ultimate adventure when they took a helicopter ride that landed on the glaciers. The catch from that trip included many halibut. At this point, James decided he had enough flying, so the winter trips in January and February were by car to Florida.
James couldn’t wait to retire so that he could live by his motto “Life is short. Hunt/fish hard.” His motto was even the decal on the side of his signature red Ford F150. A fishing cabin on the Missouri River in South Dakota was purchased and enjoyed as often as possible. The grandsons looked forward excitedly to their annual fishing trip with Grandpa, as did the sons and son-in-law for their annual trips. James totally loved spending time with his nine grandchildren. Fishing trips were also enjoyed with friends Charlie and Dave. When they wanted some real fun, the wives were included, mostly for the good cooking. On occasion, the wives outfished the men. Some very nice walleyes were pulled from the Missouri but no northerns or catfish were allowed to stay in the boat. They were thrown back for Mike and Mary to catch.
If James and his friends weren’t fishing, they were playing cards. His favorite games included 31, 65, and pinochle. James was the life of the party, with a laugh that everyone loved. Even in retirement, he was still in “engineer mode,” always thinking of innovative ways to make things bigger and better. James designed and built bear-proof bird feeders, as well as a Deer Dressing Buddy. He was always willing to take on any project, such as designing the perfect closet organizer or building a plant stand for his stepdaughter LeeAnne. James was proud to be a Ford man, and he especially loved his Mustang convertible. James and Kathy’s children together included their English Setter Korbel of twelve years and their recent addition Kip, a soft coated Wheaton Terrier.
The last five years were difficult for James. Many trips to the Mayo Clinic and hospital stays were becoming the norm. He tried not to let it slow him down and kept as active as possible by caring for his 60 acre property. James was a farm boy at heart and was truly happy driving his tractor, mowing the lawn, gardening, planting food plots, and riding his side by side through the woods.
Jim is preceded in death by parents, Peter and Margaret; sister, Bobbi Jo Wick.
He is survived by wife, Kathy; children, Kristi (Bob) Headley, Scott (Amy), Jason (Jessica); step-daughter, LeeAnne Yule; 9 grandchildren: Gabrielle Headley, Micah Headley, Olivia Headley, Lauren Headley, Nicholas Ralidak, Annamarie Ralidak, Kaitlyn McKee Ralidak, Bryauna Ralidak and Paige Ralidak; 3 siblings, Carol (Jerry) Maly, Mary (Don) Maly, Daniel (Kris); many nieces, nephews and other extended family. “Take my hand, God, and I will follow. I will always love you.”

Departed: 10/23/2017 (Forest Lake )
Obituary Preview: Dorothy "Dottie" Lee Frenning, age 79, formerly of Stacy, Minnesota, died Monday, October 23, 2017. Growing up ice skating in St. Paul’s Hazel Park neighborhood, and taking the bus with friends to the Coliseum Roller Rink, Dorothy Lee graduated from Harding High School in 1956. She was Dynamite on Wheels and roller skated for most of her life. Known as Dorothy by some folks, and by others as “Dottie”, to Don Frenning she was the love of his life. “What a Pair” has been uttered in exasperation and in delight at their antics during 57 years of marriage. Dottie was a member of the Machinists Union. After years of working at the Armory and 3M she retired when Don did. They built a home at Creeky Point in Stacy, Minnesota, enjoyed hobbies and being near family. For 17 years of their retirement they lived away from Minnesota. She and Don RV’d across the USA and in Dottie’s words, “Peed in every state.” Known for playing spoons, Dottie was in her element musically. She beautifully carved these unique sets of spoons out of wood and delighted in years of jamming with musicians in Pharr, Texas. Once back in Minnesota she played spoons with local bands, even playing along with the up tempo song “I’ll Fly Away” last month at her husband’s funeral. Don Frenning preceded Dorothy in death by 7 weeks. She also lost her twin brother Duane Lee, whom she met as Jim Larsen when they were adults. Dorothy is survived by her sister Kathy Affolter, Macon, Georgia, who is also a twin and the last of the six siblings that were reunited for the first time nearly 40 years ago. Also survived by sister-in-law Helen A. (Frenning) Bellin, caring nieces and nephews, and life long friends. Family acknowledges the friendship and support of St. John’s Lutheran Church members in Stacy, and the staff and residents of the entire Ecumen Parmly community, Chisago City, that was home to Don and Dottie since 2005.
