Departed: 02/06/2022 (Staten Island)
Obituary Preview: Avvento Frank of Brooklyn and Staten Island, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 6th, 2022.
He was the beloved husband of Angela(deceased), father of Gennaro (deceased) (Virginia), Paul (Grace), Frank (Ellen) and Michael (Theresa). Loving grandfather of Christina (Christopher), Jillian (Anthony), Brother Paul, Catrina (Joseph), Patricia (Todd), Frank (Christine). Loving great grandchildren, Samantha, Amelia, Juliet, Liliana, Gennaro, and Luke. He is survived by his sister Carmela (Andy deceased),Rose (Frank) and Cosmo (Dorothy Deceased). Deceased brothers, Peter (Rose deceased), Joseph (Mary deceased), Jack, Nick (Terry deceased), Angelo (Dolores) Rich (Carol). Loving uncle of 42 beautiful nieces and nephews. Frank was a WWII Veteran who fought for his country. He married his beautiful wife Angela in 1948. Frank enjoyed the remaining years of his life with his family, the most important thing to him. He truly enjoyed his 4 boys, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and countless family and friends.
Frank indeed lived a beautiful life and will surely be missed.
Frank Avvento was born in Brooklyn, NY in1925, the second child of Gennaro and Amelia Avvento, who both were born in Bari, Italy. They went on to have 10 children - 8 boys and two girls. Frank graduated high school and soon after went to work on the Brooklyn Docks. Shortly thereafter at the tender age of 18, just as the US war efforts were increasing, Frank enlisted on August 3rd, 1943, for the US Army. Frank fought the battle in the Pacific under the command of General Douglas MacArthur.
Frank attained the rank of Technician Fifth Grade and earned his Honorable discharge on January 23, 1946. Upon his discharge in '46, Frank landed by sea in California, where his aunt Concetta lived, with her husband Mike, and their 7 children. There he worked for his Uncle Mike in a bar and grill, and in 1947, returned home to Brooklyn.
During the war, a beautiful young lady, named Angelina, would write letters to Frank while he was overseas. Angelina was first cousins with Rose, who was dating Frank's older brother Pete. Rose told Angelina about Frank being in the Army, so she started writing the letters.
Soon thereafter, after a short courtship, they decided to get married, and on June 5th, they were wed, at the beautiful church Our Lady of Peace. In 1951, they bought their house on East 3rd Street, Brooklyn, NY. While they were married, they would go out with their friends, so one night they decided to go to the Copa Cabana night club in Manhattan. The waiting line was about an hour, so his friend Jimmy Coppola told the bouncer at the door, that I have Bruno Sammartino with me (a famous wrestler, who Frank resembled). And right away, they were able to get into the place. They went on to have 4 boys, Gennaro, Paul, Frank and Michael. The house was the meeting place for all the family holidays, birthday parties, and anything else you can think of. Angela and Frank opened their home to all the neighborhood kids, so that everyone always had a place to hang out. Frank installed a basket backboard (halfmoon) attached to the garage, and that become our NBA court. In the summer the kids would all come to the house to enjoy the swimming pool, which was one of the only ones on the block to have one. Frank made sure we always had something fun going on at our house. Over time, his four sons would marry and Frank gained four beautiful daughters-in-law, Grace, Virginia, Ellen, and Theresa. In 1978, Angelina and Frank became proud grandparents to a beautiful baby girl, and after having 4 boys, they were so excited, of not only having a grandchild, but a beautiful granddaughter. Frank was head over heels, as this tough longshoreman would show his soft side with Christina. He was a Gentle Teddy bear. Frank and Angie went on to have 6 grandchildren, Christina, Jillian, Paul Jr., Catrina, Patricia, and Frank. In addition, they had 8 great grandchildren, Samantha, Amelia, Juliet, Liliana, Giovanna, Lyla, Gennaro, and Luke. They are all his pride and joy!
Frank continued working as a Longshoreman, and retired in 1991. In 1996 His beloved wife Angelina passed away, after a long battle with cancer. It was Frank again, this rough and tough Longshoreman, who took care of Angelina for almost 4 years. He truly had a very soft side! Frank even revealed a domestic side, cooking all of the family favorites from Bari.
In 2005, he moved to Staten Island NY, and in May of that year, we had the biggest and loudest party, with all the families and friend from the past giving the East 3rd Street home a final farewell.
Frank continued to live on Staten Island; some of his brothers and sisters lived there, and he enjoyed the remaining years of his beautiful life with his family, the most important thing to him. He truly enjoyed his boys, 6 grandchildren, 8 great children and countless family and friends.
Frank indeed lived a beautiful life, and will surely be missed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and other biographical information. It may also include details about their life, accomplishments, and surviving family members.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to share news of a loved one's passing with friends, family, and community. They provide an opportunity to celebrate the person's life, acknowledge their achievements, and offer condolences to those who are grieving.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the obituary is written by the family of the deceased or a close friend. Funeral homes or crematories may also assist with writing and publishing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), and surviving family members. It may also include hobbies, interests, achievements, and other personal details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs at most.

Can I include photos or other multimedia in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and some print publications allow you to include photos, videos, or audio clips to enhance the tribute to your loved one.

How do I submit an obituary for publication?

Check with local newspapers or online obituary platforms for their submission guidelines. Typically, you'll need to provide the written obituary and any accompanying photos or multimedia via email or online form.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost varies depending on the publication or platform. Some newspapers or websites may charge a fee based on the length of the obituary or the number of photos included. Others may offer free or low-cost options.

Can I edit or update an obituary after it's been published?

Policies vary, but some publications may allow minor corrections or updates. However, significant changes may not be possible once the obituary has been published.

How long will an online obituary remain available?

This depends on the platform or website. Some online obituaries may remain available indefinitely, while others may be archived or removed after a certain period.

What is a death notice versus an obituary?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, typically including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and legacy.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes! Some people choose to write their own obituary as a way to reflect on their life and leave a lasting message for loved ones. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your story is told in your own words.

What if I'm struggling to write an obituary?

If you're finding it difficult to write an obituary, consider enlisting the help of a family member or close friend. You can also reach out to a funeral home or crematory for guidance and support.

Can I include humor or personal anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! An obituary should reflect the personality and spirit of the person who has passed away. Including humorous stories or personal anecdotes can help celebrate their life and make the tribute more meaningful.

How do I handle sensitive or private information in an obituary?

Be mindful of sensitive topics such as cause of death, health issues, or personal struggles. Consider consulting with family members or close friends before including potentially sensitive information.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial information in an obituary?
