Obituary Preview: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 1:00 PM in St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Verna L Hebert, the former Verna Derouen. Verna was 85 when she passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.
Reverend Kyle White, Pastor of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church will serve as Celebrant of the Mass.
Visitation will be observed at Martin & Castille DOWNTOWN location, 330 St. Landry St., Lafayette, La. 70506 on Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
A Rosary will be prayed in the Funeral Home on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 11:00 AM.
Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum with her beloved husband, Raywood.
A native of Abbeville, La., Verna Hebert was born in 1935 and attended Maurice High School ('53). Shortly thereafter she met Raywood J. Hebert who would become her loving husband for over 60 years.
The two lived in Abbeville until Ray was drafted into the United States Army. Together they lived at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas and later returned to Lafayette. In 1975, Verna and Ray started Gulf South Lumber, where Verna worked as a bookkeeper for over 20 years along with her son, Jimmy.
Verna was a devoted parishioner of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and spent much of her time in prayer, enjoying word search puzzles, and fishing in Butte La Rose. She spent most of her recent years with her long-time friend, Eva Baudoin, where the two enjoyed playing dice and cards, and enjoying good food and company.
She was known for her love of cooking, making preserves and pralines, and filling the hearts and stomachs of those around her. Her kind heart, humble spirit, and service of others will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, James "Jimmy" Hebert and his wife, Cherie; her grandson, Jacob Gauthier and his wife Merry King; granddaughter, Jamie Hebert; her great-grandchildren, John Gray and Vivienne Gauthier and Nathan, Sean and Thomas Neville; her brother, Curvis Derouen; her sister, Belinda Harrington and her husband Oren; her sister, Tammy Hebert and her husband Richard; her brother, Harry Broussard; her sister-in-law, Annie Derouen; and numerous nieces, nephews and God-children.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raywood Joseph Hebert; her mother, Lelias Touchet Broussard; her father, Adras Derouen; step-father, Walter Broussard; her brother, Jeffery Derouen.

Obituary Preview: Private funeral services will be held in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Paul Edward Varisco, 89, who passed away on Tuesday afternoon, August 17, 2021 at his residence in Lafayette.
The family requests that a private visitation be observed at Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette.
Rev. MSGR. Douglas Courville, JCL, Pastor of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Berwick, will conduct the funeral services.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 71 years, Claudette Mouisset Varisco; his daughter, Christine Varisco Guidry and her husband, Nelson; his son, Dana Varisco and his wife, Christine; his sister, Barbara Varisco McGuyer and her husband, James; his grandson, Michael Varisco and his wife, Anita; his granddaughters, Shannon Gary and her husband, Travis, and Leah Malagarie; and his great grandchildren, Austin, Samantha, Matthew, Ethan, and Ryan.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Kelly Varisco; his mother, Mary Varisco Knight; and his brother, Patrick Varisco.
Mr. Varisco was a veteran of 29 years of Military Service which included service in the Louisiana National Guard and the U.S. Army. He retired from active duty with the U.S. Army in August 1976 as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW3). For his service to his country, he was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal; the Bronze Star Medal w/ Oak Leaf Cluster; the Army Commendation Medal; the National Defense Service Medal; the Vietnam Service Medal; the Republic of Vietnam Combat Medal; the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/ Pam and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Varisco was employed by the U.S. Army as a Commissary Officer and served at Stuttgart and Bamberg, West Germany and at Fort Polk, Louisiana from 1978 to 1983. In 1983, he was employed by Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, Lafayette, as a Manager for Patient Food Service and served in that position until his retirement in 1994.
Pallbearers will be Dana Varisco, Michael Varisco, Nelson Credeur, Travis Gary, and James Batiste.

Bryan's life was peacefully guided by his maker into eternity on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at his residence in Sunset.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location, 330 St. Landry Street, Lafayette, LA 70506, and will continue at the same location on Friday, August 20, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
A Rosary will be prayed Thursday evening at 6:00 PM with the Sisters of the Sacred Heart presiding.
Reverend Jude Halphen, PhD., with the Office of Marriage & Family Life at the offices of the Diocese of Lafayette, Louisiana will officiate. The con-celebrant of the Mass will be Reverend Mark P. Ledoux, Pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church of Carencro. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery under the direction of Martin and Castille Funeral Home.
Bryan James St. Romain was born March 3, 1956, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. From the time he was eight years old, he loved hunting ducks and geese at the family farm and spending time in the marsh. He also enjoyed boating and fishing along the Calcasieu River. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends around a campfire. He was an outstanding offensive and defensive football player, and track and field athlete at St. Louis High School in Lake Charles, class of 1974. He began his career working derricks on drilling rigs in Oklahoma and Louisiana, then expanded into oilfield offshore communications and process technologies. He built the family home that he and Connie raised the family in, and found great joy in improving the property over the years as the family grew. An amazing woodworker, he loved to help family and friends with any project. He was fulfilled as a Eucharistic Minister, and was continuously involved in volunteering his time at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Carencro. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and Bonne Marte Society. A meticulous man, Bryan was integral in the management of his family properties.
Left behind to cherish his legacy, include his wife of 38 years, Connie St. Romain; Six children: Libby Guidry and husband, Joey, Anna Poole and husband, Jason, Oran St. Romain and fiancé, Sarah Wise, Adam St. Romain and wife, Sara, Claire Bass and husband, Greg, and Luke St. Romain; Twelve grandchildren: Jack, Millie, Joseph, Ava, Celia, Annabelle, Marshall, Wesley, Ruth, Patrick, Ronan, and Genevieve; Six siblings: Preston St. Romain, III and wife, Joanie, Randall St. Romain and wife, Catherine, David St. Romain and wife, Linda, Susan Briggs and husband, John, Cadie St. Romain, John St. Romain and wife, Jackie. Mother-in-Law Loretta B. Richard; Father-in-Law Oran J. Richard and wife, Joan; Four Brothers-in-Law: Lee Richard and wife, Jodi, Howard McCann and wife, Tracy, Todd McCann and wife, Bernetta, Mike Richard and wife, Cherie; Four Sisters-in-Law: Patty Schuster and husband, Kenny, Denise Lanclos and husband, David, Suzanne Larkin and husband, David, Pam McCann.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Preston J. St. Romain, Jr. and Gene Lester St. Romain, and grandson Alexander St. Romain.
Pallbearers will be Oran St. Romain, Adam St. Romain, Luke St. Romain, Jason Poole, Joey Guidry, and Greg Bass.
