On April 6, 2022, our lives were forever changed when William “Keith” Arvine passed away suddenly in Richmond, Virginia. He was 54 years young. Affectionately known to all as “Keith.” In Paterson, New Jersey, he was born to the late William “Willie” and Hildred Arvine. Keith was the youngest of six children and the last baby boy. Raised by his parents, Keith would grow up receiving loving support from his older siblings, who all had a share in looking out for their little brother. Educated in the Passaic County school system, Keith attended Passaic County Technical Vocational school in Wayne, NJ. After graduating he joined the United States Army National Guard where he received an honorable discharge. This was one of his proudest accomplishments. Another of his accomplishments was his membership in St. Michael Lodge #1, where he was a Worthy Patron of Queen Martha Chapter #1 in Hopewell, VA, where he enjoyed spending time with his lodge family. Keith worked multiple tradesman’s positions over the years and most recently was employed by the City of Richmond – Parks, and Recreation department. To say Keith lived life to the fullest is an understatement. He loved and embraced new adventures. This adventurous spirit led to a love of fast cars and motorcycles. His style of dress stood out in the crowd. Keith had a fascination for animals, including dogs, exotic pets like snakes, piranha fish, and an iguana to name a few. He also loved rooting for his favorite team, the New York Giants. Spending time outdoors, fishing, and hanging out with friends at the James River was how Keith liked spending his time. On weekends you could find Keith planting flowers in the front yard, and cutting the grass to give the home he shared with his mom curb appeal. Keith was preceded in death by his siblings: Vernon Booker, Stanley Booker, Denise Wheeler, and Marvin Booker.
Keith is survived by his loving Mother: Hildred Arvine of Richmond, VA; Brother: Lorenzo (Jennifer) Booker of Ashburn, VA; three children: son - Farod Arvine of Paterson, NJ, and daughters: Keshawna Arvine of Paterson, NJ and Terriah Ervin of Paterson, NJ. He leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and countless friends.

Russell Tyrone Fitzgerald - September 01, 1955 - March 03, 2022

Obituary Preview: Russell Tyrone Fitzgerald was the only child born to the late Russell and Anita Fitzgerald on September 1, 1955 in Baltimore, Maryland. Affectionately called “Ty”, he accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at age six. He served as a junior usher at the Central Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Ty graduated from the renowned Baltimore City College High School in Baltimore, Maryland in 1973. After graduating, he enrolled in the Community College of Baltimore City.
Ty later enlisted into the United States Armed forces in 1974. While in the service he met and married Judith E. Perry who proceeded him in death. From this union came two sons; Kevin Tyrone Fitzgerald and James Russell Fitzgerald. Tyrone also adopted Angela L. Perry Fitzgerald. After serving 12 years and 9 months in the military, he received an honorable discharge and settled in the state of California. Ty received an Associates degree in Electronics in Salinas, California in 1994. He was employed with Land Resources Company for some years before he decided to relocate to Virginia where his father was residing. He worked for Walmart Distribution Center where he retired after 15 years of service.
Ty, realizing the importance of his spiritual growth, joined the New Bethel Baptist Church in Crewe, Virginia. His favorite past times included playing Pinochle and Domino’s. He was a dedicated Green Bay Packers fan. From a young age, he had a love and a passion for dogs, and he adored his dogs; Snowball, Susie and the late Snook. He loved attending cookouts and family reunions. He truly loved planning and setting up for his own family reunion. Ty knew everybody and everybody knew him. He had a sense of humor that kept everybody laughing.
Ty is survived by his daughter, Angela, sons Kevin and James; sister-in law, Carolyn Perry; grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted cousin, Lillie Rhoades; several loving cousins in Baltimore, Maryland, devoted and supportive friends, Mary JoAnn Fowlkes and Larry Brown; longtime caring neighbors the Jennings and the Oliver’s; and a host of other family and friends too numerous to name. They will truly cherish their memories of him.

Deacon Henry Franklin Hurte (Scott) departed this life on Friday October 22, 2021 at his home.  He was the son of the late Edna Hurt Mason and stepson of Alexander Mason.  He was born September 19, 1933 in Crewe, Virginia.  Henry was raised by his grandparents, Reverend William H. Hurt and Virginia Marshell.  At an early age Henry was baptized and joined the New Bethel Baptist Church.
Henry attended the Nottoway County Public Schools, Mt. Zion, Watson and Luther H. Foster High School..  Henry joined the US Army and served for 22 1/2 years.  He retired as a disability veteran after serving in Korea and Vietnam.  After retiring from the Army, Henry relocated to Richmond, Virginia.  He was employed at US Government Bellwood for 20 years.
In 1963, Henry married Deloris Fowlkes.  To this union, they have two children, five grandchildren and one great grandson.
Moving on with life, Henry relocated back home to Crewe, VA.  He rejoined New Bethel Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon.  Henry was employed at the Oliver & Eggleston Funeral Home for 30 years.
Henry loved God, his church, and his family.  If he could help anyone he would do it with a smile.  He will be missed by his family, and community and all the people that loved him.
Henry leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 58 years, Deloris  F. Hurte; one son, Alexander Hurte, Sr. (Cathy) and one daughter, LaCora Hurte; Five grandchildren: Alexander Hurte, Jr., Alauna Ailstock, William Davis, Demetruis Davis and Sophia Hurte.  One great grandson, Kaiden Davis and a host of cousins, family members and friends.

Stanley Edward Carter - December 27, 1934 - June 13, 2021

Obituary Preview: Stanley Edward Carter, was born on December 27, 1934. He was the youngest of six children from the family union of the late Gilliam and Beatrice Bland Carter.  As the Lord would have it, Stanley’s mother died at the age of 35 years, when Stanley was nine months old.  Beatrice’s sister, Martha and her husband George Pettis took Stanley and raised him as their own.
Stanley’s formal educational experience was cut short when he started suffering epilepsy as the result of a brain tumor and could no longer attend Watson Elementary School.  Although he was no longer in the public school setting, Stanley learned to read and write from his siblings and cousins.  Aunt Martha and Uncle Bud raised Stanley in a Christian home, and at an early age he was baptized and became a member of Union Baptist Church.
As the years passed, Stanley had to be placed in an assisted living facility. The first facility that was chosen for him was Central State Hospital in Petersburg.  Stanley kept up with all of the news from Crewe by talking with two employees, Albert Jennings and Mrs. Elizabeth Roberts.  Over the years, Stanley lived in several adult homes in the Richmond area, and in the year 2000, he came to live at the Heritage Hall Healthcare Facility in Blackstone.  Stanley was at his happiest when he moved to Blackstone.  Extended family contact was a true joy for him.
Stanley was preceded in death by siblings; Eddie G. Carter, Stewart Carter, Eleaser Carter, Arlene Carter Watson, and Mozella Carter Lewis Fowlkes.
Left to remember the life of Stanley; Sister-in-Law, Irene Carter, 9 nieces, 3 nephews, 7 great nieces, 7 great nephews, cousins and friends.

Joe Love - June 24, 1938 - February 25, 2021

Obituary Preview: Joe Edward Love was born on June 28th to the late Willis and Emma Love in Crewe, Virginia.  Limited with a disability at an early age, it never prevented Joe from being and doing the best he could.  "Uncle Joe", as he was lovingly known, worked on the railroads and was one of the best handymans' ever!  Instilled with the love of God from birth, you could always find him in Sunday services whether it was in Virginia or Brooklyn,  or New York were he lived.  he enjoyed singing in the choir at his church, "America Come back to God in Brooklyn."
Although he produced no biological children, Uncle Joe is love by his many nieces, nephews, step-children and their children.  Joe was preceded in death by his brothers; Willis (Kathleen), Caesar and wife, Joyce.  Joe transitioned into God's care on February 25, 2021 peacefully while sleeping.  Left to cherish his life are his sister: Doris L. Foster, Uncle: David Ransome, Aunt: Bessie Ransome, ex-wife: Gladys Fulton, two sister in laws: Gloria and Rossalind, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

Rev. Dr. Leanora Stepney King - September 12, 1936 - February 07, 2021

Obituary Preview: . Dr. Leanora Stepney King was born in Hertford NC to the late Ernest and Mildred Stepney. Her son Staff Sergeant Curtis Fitzgerald King, her sister Geraldine Smith, and her husband Retired Master Sergeant William Henry King precedes her in death.
In 1958 when Dr. Leanora S. King moved to Oakland, California she accepted the Lord as her personal savior. She joined Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship, Reverend Herbert Guice, DD.  Whereas the late Dr. Guice and late Lillie Guice were Dr. King’s godparents.  Dr. King was a very active member, serving in  the following departments: Usher Board, Singing in the Choir, Sunday School Secretary, Chairperson of the Welcome/Hostess Committee, Counselor for new Church members, Bible Study Students, just to name a few.
She attended market training School and earned a certificate of completion as a sales checker.  She worked for the United States government for three as a sales checker. After leaving the government, she went into the sales business for herself; where she was top sales person for years, winning trips to places such as; Tahiti, Spain, Hawaii, Portugal, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.  She also won a car, a fur coat and many other awards.
Having dropped out of high school at the age of 15, with much encouraged from her mother, the late Mildred Stepney, she began to realize the importance of having an education.  She went back to (Adult Day/Night School) in Oakland, California.  Not only did she get the requirements to receive her GED, she also received the requirement for and received a High School Diploma.
Being a success at receiving her diploma, she submitted a proposal to the Oakland County Public Schools to assist both the young and old people in obtaining their high school diploma.  This proposal was accepted.  She was the Oakland County Public Schools liaison person as a drop out Intervention Counselor until she moved to Crewe, VA. While in Oakland she served as President of the Board of Directors for the East Oakland Girls Association and worked in the Political Arena with the Vice-Mayor of Oakland.
In 1979, Dr. King received and Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, from Peralta College in Alameda, California.  She moved to Crewe, VA and quickly got involved with the churches and the citizens of the area.  She was a Secretary of the Voter’s League, Ladies Auxiliary, Member of VFW Post 5313, Assistant Soloist for the State VFW Ladies Auxiliary (appointed at that time by State President Mrs. Shirley Nicholos), Trustee Evergreen Chapter #64 Order of Eastern Star, Prince Hall affiliate, Vice-President of the Nottoway High School Band Boosters Club, she was instrumental in raising money for uniforms.  Dr. King was the first black woman President of the Fourth District VFW Ladies Auxiliary, she organized the District VFW Color guard.
At Virginia Seminary under the Deanship of late Dr. Milton Foster, she was the program chairperson, class photographer and choir directress. She was the First Black to work behind the polls and the First Black Chief Officer of Elections in Nottoway County.
In 1983, she had her First 45 rpm recording, entitled “My Tribute”.  She organized her own group, Leanora S. King and the L.S.K. Singers.  She was the special guest soloist that opened for Shirley Caesar at Fort Belvoir for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Ceremony and Birthday Observance; she was accompanied by her son, the late Curtis F. King.  She attended and performed at the 16th Annual Board meeting of the late Rev. James Cleveland Gospel Workshop of America in Chicago, Ill.
In the year 1984, she opened Leanora’s Nails and Tanning Salon in Crewe, VA. Dr. King recorded and album with the L.S.K Singers, entitled, “I Don’t Know About Tomorrow.”
May 17, 1987, the foundation of Deliverance Through Jesus (For All People) Apostolic Holiness Church which was the name the Lord gave to Dr. King, began. Starting with a prayer service those in attendance: her mother the Late Mother Mildred Stepney, Joan, Lee, and Josephine Carter.
July 24, 1988 she baptized 14. August 13, 1988 she was ordained to pastor by the late Bishop Richard Harper.
In 1989 Dr. King received her B.A., in Christian Education form Virginia Seminary College in Lynchburg under the deanship of the late Dr. Milton Foster.

Kate Green was born on June 27, 1928, in Nottoway County, Virginia and the sunset for our beloved mother was on January 28, 2021.
She and her twin brother, Calvin Beverly, was the youngest children of Master and Nancy Beverly. She was preceded in death by her 18 brother and sisters, whom she loved and admired. She attended Nottoway High School, and during that time she worked at Bradshaw’s Restaurant. On May 15, 1956, Kate Beverly married Pleasant Vincent Green in Burkeville, Virginia. They later moved to New York City and made it their new home where they had and raised their children. Kate was a homemaker all her life, and she truly loved taking care of her home and family, which she did well into her 90’s. During her time in New York, she cared for her children and had many “non-related” grandchildren who she cared for throughout the years. She also loved and appreciated all of her nieces and nephews who always visited and called to check on her well-being and also just to say hello. We will all remember the Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings, and especially the Sunday dinners. During Sunday dinners, we would listen to my mother’s stories and her funny jokes. Her home was always welcoming to family, friends, and friends of friends. All were welcome to grab a hot meal. Her philosophy on family was that we should always stick together and look out for each other. She even mentions this in the poem that she wrote many years ago which is included in this program. Kate leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends and also an abundance of family to cherish her memory. She leaves behind her beautiful children: Nancy Carter, Pleasant V. Green Jr., (Mercedes), Yolanda James (Alex), Florence Green-Zelaya (Luis), Randy Green (Pamela), Rita Green (Lawrence), and Lisa Green. She also leaves behind 15 beautiful grandchildren: Reta Saunders-Reed, Cassandra Saunders, Angela Saunders, Paulette Saunders, Ericka Brown, Latasha James, Randy James, Alex James Jr., Jamal James, Jah-king James, Tina Zelaya, Melissa Zelaya, Skye M. Green, Autumn Green, and Lawrence Tyndale Jr.; and 27 Great- grandchildren: Reginald Gaston, Kayla Lennen, Karter Baker, Moises Prado, Morgan Prado, Jayden Brown, Jamal Saunders, Joseph Jr., Rakeem Davon, Dashawn Raheem, Ja’Quan Donta, Chikirya Saunders, Tyvonn Saunders, Omarion Allen, Keshawn Saunders, Charles Carter, Kenyatta Carter, Devin Allen, Journey Krislyn Scott, Gabrielle Scott, Jayvion Clarke, Logan James, London James, Lalah James, Gavin James, Eleana Johnson and Alex Gooden; and 6 Great-great grandchildren: Khalil Saunders, Demaryis Ramsey, Zion Tai’heim Watkins, Jakirah Saunders; Cameron Saunders, and Ja kobi Saunders. We will not forget those who have preceded her death, her beloved daughter Dorothy Saunders and granddaughter, Deborah Newton. Fowlkes(son), Mary Louise Fitzgerald(sister), Buster (Brother), Baby (Brother).  She is survived by Lloyd James Kenner loving and devoted husband, son: Quentin Towler (Cynthia), daughter: Diane Hopkins-Miller, daughter Rose Hopkins (Calvin) and son Robert Hopkins (Nanette) and a hos t of grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and family friends who adored her so.  She was so loved and will be forever missed.  you are forever embedded in our hearts.
