Jones of Buskirk and her daughter, Judith J. Gross of Johnsonville, she is survived by her daughters, Fay A. (Ron) Wagar of Schenectady, Terri L. Marpe of Hoosick Falls, and her eldest son, Ellis N. (Lynn) Jones, III of Buskirk.  She was the proud matriarch of an impressive clan, boasting of over thirty grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great, great, grandchildren.  She was pre-deceased by her eldest daughter, Darcy M. (David) Nutter of Arlington, VT and two beloved grandchildren: Mindy L. Jones and Bradley T. Nutter.  She is also predeceased by her parents, brothers (Daniel and Arthur “Pete” Canavan), and her son-in-law and formidable Scrabble opponent, Dr. Richard W. Gross.       Born on December 4, 1939, Judy would demonstrate her indelible strength and will to survive from the beginning.  The youngest child and only daughter of Arthur and Elsie Canavan of Mechanicville, she was born very small and prematurely.  She attended Catholic school through tenth grade when becoming a young mother forced her to leave. Judy returned to high school at Hoosic Valley in her twenties, however, to earn her Regents diploma by taking evening classes, thus speaking to her reverence for education.       A highly intelligent, vivacious, strong-willed, and gregarious woman, Judy made strong impressions on everyone she met.  Her quick wit, keen sense of humor and hearty laughter were cornerstones of her person.  She was a voracious reader, insatiably curious and ever adventurous.  She lived life richly and fully, taking on a variety of challenging roles as changes in her life called for them.  She served in several positions within her local government, worked in the school cafeteria when her eldest children were young and held various jobs including photographer, home health aide and retail jewelry manager when left to support her children in the mid-1970’s.  Judy traveled extensively including trips to Spain and Africa and several trips within the United States including to Mardi Gras and California to visit life-long friends. She was self-taught, highly skilled and gifted in all forms of artistic expression including painting, crochet, embroidery, quilting and writing.  She enjoyed all forms of entertainment, especially music and theatrical productions.  Judy was best known for her passionate nature and her “gift of the gab.”  She was well-versed and self-educated on a wide range of interesting and controversial topics.  She was happiest when hosting large gatherings of family and friends during which she could offer love, support, advice and astute observations on all aspects and phases of life. Per Mrs. Jones’s wishes, there will be no formal services.  Instead, her daughter and namesake, Judy, is hosting a celebration of all that was best in her mother at Guiseppe's Restaurant in Pittstown/Hoosick on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from noon until three pm.  Anyone and everyone who was touched by this woman’s remarkable life is invited to honor her by gathering for an afternoon of fond memories, love, healing, forgiveness, and peace.
