Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Edith E. Kemp passed away in the early hours of June 29, 2019 at the age of 101 years. She was born on June 20, 1918 in Highland Park, Michigan to George A. and Sarah (nee Stone) Lundy. Edith was raised and attended school, in Highland Park.
Edith married Clarence G. Kemp on October 2, 1937 in Highland Park. They spent their married years in Berkley, Michigan and Port St. Lucie, Florida. Clarence passed away on April 26, 1992 after they shared 54 beautiful years of marriage. In her final years mom moved to Gladwin County. Mom’s employment years included six years at S. S. Kresge and 18 years at J. C. Penney department stores.
Edith and Clarence had three children. Daughters Judy Ann McRoberts who passed away May 2019, Connie Lee Kemp who passed away July 2014 and a son Richard George (Susan K.) Kemp of Hope, MI who survives her. Edith also has four grandchildren, Susan M. (Jeff) Kelley, Michael R. Kemp, Kristine L. (Alex) Yeremin, William C. (Sharon) McRoberts and six great grandchildren, Megan and Brennan Kelley, Evelyn and Leo Yeremin, and Cassandra and Cody McRoberts.
Edith has resided at The Horizon Senior Living VI in Gladwin, Michigan this past year. The wonderful staff and fellow residents held a 101 birthday party for her this past week. Her smiles and happiness reflected those of the person’s in attendance who shared her celebration. Our family cannot say enough about the outstanding care she received from the Horizon staff and Compassus nursing staff from West Branch.

Donald Oliver Bowen, long time resident of Lake, Michigan was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on June 23,2019. He passed away peacefully at Gladwin Pines surrounded by loving family. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of John Oliver Bowen and Juanita {Cook} Bowen. Don lived to be 95 years old and leaves behind many family members, friends and an entire community to mourn his loss.
Don had many accomplishments during his lifetime. He served in the Army during World War II; his WWII cap was one of his most prized possessions. During his earlier years he was an officer with the Masonic Lodge of Detroit, which is affiliated with the Shriners. He was a life member and Post Commander for six years of the Lake DAV, and also a member and officer of the Lake Eagles and VFW.
For 24 years, together with his wife, Helen, they delivered meals to homebound seniors, part of the Meals on Wheels Program. He was also nominated as Outstanding Senior of the Year by Council on Aging. Don volunteered most of his retired days doing what he loved best, helping people in need. He was a definite asset to the community. His service to so many people and organizations has touched the hearts of his community, friends and family and will never be forgotten. Don enjoyed the stories, memories and laughter shared with his many friends at the Farwell and Lake meal sites and he will be missed. He will also be sadly missed by Pastor Gene Hockey and his entire church family at Bethany Baptist of Lake, Michigan. Also, mourning his loss is special granddaughter, Angel Ray, neighbor, Alec Hammond and his family, special friends, Jim and Debby and his favorite home health aide, Trisha. The love, kindness and time that they shared with Don will never be forgotten. The family would also like to thank the many nurses that made him their favorite patient in the VA Hospital and Midland Hospital
Left to cherish his memory are his five children, Juanita {Bill} Eppler, Donald E. {Marge} Bowen, Russell {Jean} Bowen, Kathleen Penrod, and Bryan {Trish} Bowen. Also, he leaves 17 grandchildren, 29 great- grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Queen Bowen, a grandson, Jeffrey R. Bowen and the mother of his children, Lucille Buvia.
Arrangements were made with assistance from Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home in Gladwin, Michigan.
There will be a Memorial Service at a later date for Don. Contributions can be made in Don’s memory to your charity of choice, Lake DAV or Bethany Baptist Church of Lake, Michigan.

He was born in West Branch on October 23, 1951 to the late Charles & Mary (Vaughan) Clore. He married the former Terry Switzer on February 10, 1973 at the Gladwin First United Methodist Church, she survives him. Charles was retired from CSX Railroad and a devoted member of the Gladwin United Methodist Church & the Men’s Life Group. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and supported the Pheasants Forever in the area. He enjoyed his retirement with operating his backhoe on projects for himself and others like working on food plots. He also did some real estate investing and beekeeping. The greatest joy was being with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years and their daughters Kelli & Bryan Cassiday, Lyndsay & Skip Schipper and Brandi & Tony Johnson; grandchildren Brooke Eric, Kyle, Jacob, Taylor, Mason, Blake and Brady; his siblings Cal Clore, Cliff & Chris Clore and Peggy & Ray Weathers.

Obituary Preview: Jerome “Jerry” R. Skocelas, age 81, of Gladwin, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019. He was born on April 4, 1938, to the late Stanley and Dorothy (Fredericksen) Skocelas.
He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School of Manistee for 12 years. He graduated with the class of 1956. Jerry worked for the A & P Tea Company, where he met Catherine O’Hagan of Onekama, Michigan. They were married on August 1, 1959, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Onekama.
Jerry managed A & P stores in Lake City (1960-1963), Mt. Pleasant (1963-1966), and Gladwin (1966-1971). He also owned and operated, with Cathy’s help, the Associated Income Tax Service, beginning in 1968. Cathy & Jerry purchased the Sears Catalog Store in 1972. They owned and operated this store until June 1993, when Sears closed all catalog stores.
Jerry belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council and Administration Committee. He was a member of the Father Artman Knights of Columbus Council #5280. He also served 9 years on the Gladwin Community Schools Board of Education. He acted as treasurer and secretary for the Gladwin Business Men’s Association. Jerry liked to read and watch sports.
Jerry so loved his children and grandchildren. He is survived by 5 daughters; Lori (Jeff) Wagoner of Plymouth, Lynn Skocelas of Midland, Lisa Skocelas of Rochester, Lorna “Prunie” Skocelas of Westland, and Lynda (Rodney Johnson) Skocelas of Westland; 5 grandchildren, Martin Skocelas-Hunter, Amanda Wagoner, Sienna Skocelas-Hunter, Justin Wagoner, Vanesa Skocelas-Johnson, and great grandson Camden Skocelas-Wheeler. He is also survived by brothers; Richard, Allen, and Gary (Polly) Skocelas, sisters; Patricia (Hugh) O’Hagan and Joanne Krause. Brother in-law Ronald (Joyce) O’Hagan. He is pre-deceased by his loving wife Catherine (O’Hagan) Skocelas, and brothers; Stanley (Louie) Skocelas Jr. and David Skocelas.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 21st, at 2:30 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. J. Marcel Pontelli officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Bill was a graduate of Gladwin High School, was employed at Simpson Industries and retired from Federal Broach & Machine of Harrison. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being with his family & friends.
Surviving is his wife of 43 years, his mother Doris Mathews; two sisters Beth Dunn and Susan Shankel and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Richard “Dick’ Mathews.

Mrs. Bugbee 67 passed away Friday May 24, 2019 at her home following a brief illness. She was born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania on February 2, 1952 to Charles & Alberta (Botwright) Plowman. Debra was retired from United States Veterans Administration Health Services working in the Saginaw and Clare offices. She enjoyed going to local auto races, car shows and spending time with her son and his family. Debra was an avid deer hunter for three months of the year. She looked forward and preparded for every year several months before the season.
She is survived by her son Ronald “Shon” & Jennifer Plowman; grandsons Akron and Kade Plowman and a great grand child on the way; her mother Alberta Fowler; siblings Glenn Plowman, Brenda Plowman and James & Debra Plowman. She was preceded in death by her father Charles Plowman, stepfather Clyde Fowler and a sister in law Judy Plowman.

Elizabeth Kraljevich, age 87, of Beaverton, Michigan went Peacefully to be with her Lord on May 24, 2019, surrounded by her four daughters at Horizon Senior Living in Clare. Elizabeth was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 18, 1931, the daughter of Robert (Boźo) & Mary (Wagner) Chovich. Enduring the Depression, much of her childhood was living life on a farm and she often said, “I was a farmer’s daughter.” She learned everything about providing for one’s family thru hard work, the Love for the land, respect for all animals, and believing and trusting in God. Elizabeth was a graduate of Gladwin High School. After many years of raising her daughters and enjoying a diverse working career, she moved back to Beaverton for more than 45 years and retired from Saint Gobain in Beaverton as an operator, following a long career at West Branch Tube.
Elizabeth loved life as a mother and homemaker. She felt blessed to become a grandmother and then a great grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy. She was determined to achieve anything which was evident in her hobbies such as cooking, fishing gardening, quilting, and making things for family and friends. She loved her beloved loyal dogs who now have guided her thru heavens gates. She cherished her friends at Wagarville Methodist Church in Gladwin.
Surviving are her daughters; Susan (Steven) Witer, Patricia (Robert) O’Rourke, JoAnn (Lawrence) Quinn, Linda (James) Thigpen. Grandchildren; Jacob (Elizabeth) Witer, Lucas Witer, Colton (Macey) O’Rourke, Michael (Alicia) O’Rourke, and Joshua (Nicole) Thigpen. Great-grandchildren; Charlotte, Zander, and Kamden. Preceding her in death are her parents, brother John Chovich, and sister Eva Sweetland.
At Elizabeth’s request cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Those wishing any expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Hospice of Mid-Michigan.

She had a lifelong hope of one day waking up in Heaven as she sought daily to reflect the love of Jesus to her children Rev. George L. Coon (Linda) of Lindley, New York, Sherry Weldon (Darrell) of Harrison and Mary Eppert (Cliff) of Clare. They were all blessed by her unconditional love, and she will forever be in their hearts and minds. We look forward to the day when we can together see our Saviour face to face.
