Obituary Preview: Richard William Kniffen, age 87, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2024, in Howell, Michigan. Born on March 19, 1937, in Lansing, Michigan, Richard was the beloved son of the late Richard Kniffen and Myra (Roland) Kalmbach.
Richard is lovingly remembered by his children: Scott Kniffen, Kimberly (Scott) Crawford, Julie (Doug) Keiffer, and Zola Love. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Carol Kniffen, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard (Doris) Kniffen, Myra (Roland) Dimock; his son, Richard Kniffen; his brothers, Keith Kniffen and Ron “Boomer” Kniffen; his lifelong companion, Elizabeth Sinn; his daughter-in-law, Carlene Kniffen; and his grandson, Scotty Kniffen.
Richard had a long and fulfilling career as an electrician, retiring from Johnson Controls in 1995 after many dedicated years of service. In his youth, he was an avid sportsman, excelling in various sports throughout high school. His love for the outdoors was evident in his hobbies of hunting and fishing, which he continued to enjoy after moving to Rapid River in Michigan's Upper Peninsula upon his retirement.
Honoring his wishes, he will be laid to rest in Cooks Cemetery in Cooks, Michigan, where a graveside service will take place at a later date.

He was born on January 1, 1935 to parents Leo Clark and Phyllis (Joseph) Walczak, who preceded him in death, along with his grandson, Kevin Clark.
He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Carolyn, six children, Deborah (Dennis) Baugh, Karen (Gary) Wright, Robert (Darlene) Clark, Raney Clark, Randy Clark, and William Clark; grandchildren, Carey (Jeff) Baumgardner, Kimey (Derick) Ward, Derek Baugh, Karla (Shawn) Mullaly, Koty (Lesleigh) Clark, Heather Wright, Jessica Wright, Kassie (Cody) VanDusen, Sheri Leighton, Bret Pond, and Beth Harris; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley (Robert) Kistka and Sharon (Keith) Crandall; brother, Marv Walczak; sister-in-law, Bev (John) Kotilinek; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Together with his wife they raised six children on Michigan Center Lake. He retired from Goodyear and spent 33 years in Davie, Florida before coming back to Jackson to be near his family.
He graduated from Jackson High School and was an exceptional swimmer and even held school records.
Bob was the best husband, dad, grandpa, father-in-law, uncle, brother, and friend. He was easy going and fun and everyone has a story to remember him by. “He will be greatly missed and we will see him on the other side.”
Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 1:00 PM with a celebration of life to follow until 4:00 PM at the Michigan Center Eagles #3634, 302 Fifth St. Michigan Center, Michigan 49254.

Barbara is survived by her son, Bill (Angela) Potter; and six grandchildren whom she adored: Zach (Emily) Potter, Madison Potter, Brittany Potter, Brett Potter, Jenna Mann, and Morgann Betterly. She is also survived by her dear friends of over 40 years, Jeannie and Eugene Knowles; her brothers, Bill Griffus and Burt Griffus; her sister, Carie (John) Kloack; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Gary Potter.
Barbara's life revolved around her grandchildren, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was an avid gardener, finding joy and peace in tending to her plants. Her love for animals was evident, especially in the care she gave to her beloved dog, Angel. Known for her culinary skills, Barbara's goulash and cookies were a favorite among family and friends, and her warm kitchen was a gathering place filled with love and laughter. He is survived by his sons, Stephen Brewer (Sheridan Perrin) and Gregory Brewer; his fiancée, Margarita Jimenez; granddaughter, Whitney; his brother, Keith Brewer; the mother of his children, Marcia Bradford; his niece, Kathleen Lupa; his nephew, Joshua Brewer; and numerous other extended family members and great friends who will miss him dearly.
For 21 years, Ken was a beloved professor of theology and philosophy at Spring Arbor University, where he inspired countless students with his wisdom and passion for learning. His academic journey was remarkable, holding a Bachelor of Arts, three Master's degrees, and a PhD. Education was a cornerstone of his life, and he was committed to fostering an environment of intellectual curiosity and spiritual growth.
Ken’s love for the outdoors was evident in his many adventures fishing, hiking, biking, camping, and visiting national parks. He found solace and joy in nature, and it was a testament to his deep appreciation for the world God created. His love for God and people was reflected in his life’s work as a proponent of peace and a man of great faith and service.
Ken’s life was marked by his extraordinary character and the love he extended to his family, friends, and students. He was known for his deep commitment to his faith, family, and community, embodying the values of character, integrity, intellect, and love.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Westwinds Church, 1000 Robinson Rd., Jackson, Michigan 49203, from 3:00 PM until the time of the Celebration of Life at 4:00 PM, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Moore-Jumonville officiating.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Baetz of Parma; sister-in-laws, Janet Christner of Marshall and Sue Christner of Albion; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and all her special friends at the Jackson Friendly Home.
Preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Charles D Christner II and Robert Christner; and nephew, Chris D Christner III.
Ruth enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, particularly knitting, playing bingo, and listening to all kinds of music. She will be remembered for her kind spirit and her love for her family and friends.
In accordance with Ruth's wishes, cremation has taken place and a small memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 1:30 PM at the Jackson Friendly Home. Burial will take place later at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

She is survived by her loving mother, Wendy Ludwick; father, Jerry Shoemaker Jr.; and her cherished children, Ce’Aira Hill, Wardell Willis, and Evan Willis. She also leaves behind her goddaughter, Jessica Godbout; 9+ grandchildren and bonus grandchildren, each of whom she loved dearly. Kasey's unconditional love and sacrifices for her family were evident in every aspect of her life. She was loved by everyone and in turn, loved everyone with her whole heart.
Kasey was preceded in death by her sister, Michelle Shoemaker, and dozens of close friends and family members. "We love you, Momma. We miss you, Coco."

He is also survived by his sister, Tanya Freeman of Oxford, Michigan, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Garold Phillips, great-granddaughter, Ruby June Fletcher, and his sister, Glenna Watters.
Danny was a truck driver by trade and a dedicated family man. He found joy in traveling and spending time relaxing while watching television.

She is also survived by two sisters, Brenda Newsome and Jackie Stiltner, a nephew Stanley (Joe) Garcia, a sister-in-law, Selma Donnellan, stepdaughter Barbara Anne Corwin and grandchildren as well as many more nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Adkins who she loved fiercely and dearly, her mother and father, Jack and Dorothy Margraves, two brothers, Rick and Stan Margraves and a stepson, Josh Adkins

Jose was a man of many hobbies. He found peace and enjoyment in fishing, gaming, camping, rock hunting, and thrifting. He also had a deep love for animals, especially his furry companions. An avid sports fan, Jose enjoyed golfing, basketball, and softball.

Edward graduated highschool from Napoleon Community Schools, afterwards he went on to graduate from Michigan Technological University with his Bachelors in Psychology. He found his calling within his work in Recovery Technology in Jackson, MI and was dearly adored by not only his colleagues but his community as well. He truly enjoyed his fishing trips on Lake Superior in Houghton, MI. along with hiking trails and traveling to see new places.

Born on August 31, 1959, in Lansing, Michigan, Joe was the son of Ronald Heiler and Ruth Mast Ratcliff (Paul Ratcliff).
Joe's memory will be cherished by his devoted wife of 45 years, Doreen Heiler; his daughter, Bethany Heiler; and his grandson, Adam Al-Kanani. He is also survived by his sisters, Lori Heiler, Cheryl (Mark) Heiler-Stayton, and Sue Clough, his brothers, David Heiler and Clyde Ratcliff; nephews, Ronald Heiler, Shawn Heiler, Andrew Heiler, and Drew Clark; and Joe's many other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins will fondly remember his outgoing personality.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Heiler and Ruth Mast Ratcliff, his step-father Paul Ratcliff, his sister, Teri-Lynn Heiler, and his brother, Ronald Dennis Heiler.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Joe was known for his infectious happiness and his love of life. He was very outgoing and had the ability to remember everyone he's ever met.
Joe had a passion for music and singing, and he loved cheering on his hometown Detroit sports teams. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was barbecuing with loved ones, playing bingo, trying his luck at the casino, or fishing on a quiet day. Joe also had a special bond with his dog, Buddy, who he even liked to share his meals with.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11:00 am at Encounter Church, located at 620 Robinson Rd, Jackson, MI 49203 with Pastor Bart Hall officiating. Following the memorial service a potluck will be held at the church so bring your favorite dish to celebrate.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife Sharon of 30 years. Devoted father of Misty (Roger Sackrider) Vos, Melanie (Mike) Mazzola, Kelly (Phil) Johnson, and Chris Dailey. Amazing Papa to Rylan and Marec Sackrider, Samantha, Alexandra, and Vincent Mazzola, and Sydney and Kara Johnson. Mike was a dear life-long friend to Wyman (Chris) Godfrey. Brother to Kenneth (Suzanne) Voss, Gary (Wendy) Vos, and Julie Sweers. Wonderful uncle to several nieces and nephews. Mike had many special friends who were like family to him and to them, he was also known as Papa Mike.
Mike was known for his kind heart and friendly personality. He was a friend to everyone that he met; everyone who met him loved him. Mike always knew someone wherever he went. His family was his world, especially his grandchildren. He loved to tell tall-tale stories and his joking always brought a smile to so many faces. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida with friends that became like family.
Mike was incredibly loved and will be forever missed.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. We invite family and friends to a visitation on Wednesday, May 1st, from 5-8 pm at Lauer Family Funeral Home located at 1035 Cooper Street, Jackson MI 49202. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 2nd at 1 pm at the funeral home where we will celebrate Mike’s life and provide an opportunity to share memories and favorite moments.

He lived his life his way. He loved traveling, biking, and especially driving many bands and acts across the country for Star Coaches. He was a Harley enthusiast, scuba certified, loved life, and fought hard. He will be truly missed.

Preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years Sandy Gorrell, his parents, three brothers Rex, Joe & Jack, two sisters Jean and Eula Faye.
Bob served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He went to work at Tecumseh Products then became a Real Estate Broker and worked with several agencies, then onto his own Gorrell Bros. Real Estate & Auctioneers in 1963 until retiring in 2018. Bob loved traveling the world, casino hopping with friends and his wife Sandy, spending time with his children and grandchildren, gardening and mowing his gigantic lawn.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.

Jack was born at home on March 25, 1939 in Rockview, Marquette Twp., Mackinac County, Michigan to Roy C and Amber (Skinner) Hart of Mason, the youngest of 8 children. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife, June of Onondaga; daughter, Debra Hart of Atlanta, GA; stepson, Tony Macchia of Concord; daughter- in-law, Jenny Hart of Onondaga; grandsons, Damen (Brandy) Blackgrave and Tyler (Taylor) Blackgrave of Atlanta, GA, Iaian Hart and André Hart of Farmington and Apple Valley, Minnesota, Justin Macchia of Ann Arbor, Mason Macchia of Jackson, Gunnar and Archar Hart of Onondaga; granddaughter, Alexis (Devin) Matteson of Jackson; 5 great-grandchildren, Iris Boos, Lydia, and Milo Blackgrave of Atlanta, GA, Matteo and Griffin Matteson of Jackson; sisters, Muriel (Hart) Allen of Howell, Marlene (Hart) Akers and Merna (Hart) Mudgett of Mason, and Rosalie (Jerry) Miers of Leslie; sister-in-law, Joan (Gretton) Hart of Eaton Rapids; mother of his children, Sue Ann (Jean) Brownfield of Mason; and many, many Hart and Skinner nieces,

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Laurence Warren “Larry” Hart of Onondaga; brothers, Shirley W “Bill” and wife Eleanor (Gretton) Hart of Mason, Marion “Clair” Hart of Aurelius, Francis D “Frank” and wife Billie Jo (Tanner) Hart of Howell; an an infant sister born in 1937; son-in-law, Jeffrey C Blackgrave of Charleston, SC; brother-in-laws George Allen of Howell, Grover Akers and Paul B “Skip” Mudgett of Mason, and Lora Wilson of Leslie; in-laws, Lawrence and Fern (Warner) Jean of East Lansing, and Clifford T (Mona) Beckwith of Albion
and Audrey L (Carter, Beckwith) Palmer of Angle Sea, New York. In 1942, when Jack was 3, his family moved from the U.P. of Michigan to Aurelius, Ingham County. He attended several one-room school houses in the area, including Aurelius Center School, Gretton/Isham School, Webb School, the old American Legion Hall, and eventually the Jefferson Street (Mason) High School
in Mason in 6th grade, where he completed his education and graduated with honors in 1957. In January 1958, Jack began serving in the U.S. Army National Guard, where he served six years in Missouri, California, and Gaylord, Michigan. In March 1959, he married Sue Ann Jean, with whom he shares two children (Debra and Laurence). In October 1992, Jack married June (Beckwith) Macchia, and gained a son (Tony). Jack spent his life working in trades, including with or for his father’s Hart Well Drilling business, Ron Lewis Electrical in Mason, Atlas Drop Forge in Lansing, brother Bill’s Hart Well Drilling business, and finally became a union electrician in 1968. Working as a master electrician and retiring after 30 years through the I.B.E.W. Local 665 in 1998, he served several leadership roles through the local and on job sites. He traveled at times throughout his career, working mainly on large construction projects in various states in MI, TX, MN,
PA, NY, and OH, including nuclear power, auto, and other manufacturing plants. A self-taught musician and singer from his teenage years, Jack excelled on the acoustic guitar and mandolin, owning several, and enjoyed tinkering with banjo and harmonica. He especially loved folk, classic country, bluegrass, and ballads, and jamming with musician friends, including his wife June on the spoons and extended family in the U.P. It was a highlight of the annual Hart Reunion in Mason for decades to hear Jack play and sing with his siblings, daughter, grandsons, nieces and nephews, and later with friends made at Eaton Rapids Senior Center. He left a legacy and love of music to his children and grandchildren, several of whom
are singers, musicians, and artists, and all are music lovers. Known also for his intelligence, keen wit, and dry sense of humor, Jack loved working with his hands as a true ‘jack-of-all-trades’ and in the great outdoors. He built the house his children grew up in, and the family enjoyed camping, boating, and canoeing in summers and ice skating, smelt and ice fishing in the winter months. Later, he and June enjoyed RVing, camping, fishing, and ice-fishing, and were known far and wide for the raspberries, garlic, tomatoes, and other delicables from their massive garden for many years. He was a master craftsman with wood and lumber, much of which he milled and finished with his brothers and nephews. In 2017, when vision and health began to hinder his ability to enjoy his many woodworking projects in his pole barn, he, brother Frank, and sister-in-law Joan Hart stunned the Mason High School industrial arts department when they donated their extensive supply (over 5K board feet, 7 truck & trailer loads) of oak, ash, maple,
spruce, and cherry lumber culled from Hart properties in the area. Jack’s laugh, practical wisdom, musicianship, and love for his family and dog Zip will be greatly missed by
them and those who knew him well. He will be cremated and asked for no memorial service.

Obituary Preview: Janet “Queenie” Van Order, a much-loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away in Jackson, Michigan at the age of 87. She left this world on April 16, 2024, with her daughter, Debbie, at her side.
Jan was born May 5, 1936 in Stockbridge, Michigan to the late Carl and Bertha Sayers. She raised her three cherished children, Rod, Debbie, and Mark, in the Jackson area. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Kristy, Jennifer, Kyle, and Amber; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jan’s career was important to her and she worked hard throughout her life as a secretary in various settings including as a legal secretary and as an executive secretary to the CEO of Lifeways, where she retired.
Known as Queenie to friends and colleagues, she loved to socialize and was a member of the local Eagles, Moose Lodge, and American Legion Post 29. She was a social butterfly through and through – especially if there was a bar nearby where we could get a few drinks.
Jan was an avid bowler and golfer and participated in leagues for many years. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and would head to the casinos any chance she could to test her luck on the slot machines. She loved to travel and chase a great suntan, taking multiple trips to Florida, Las Vegas, and Hawaii.
Once retired, Jan enjoyed watching soap operas and daytime talk shows. She built a wonderful relationship with her 6-year old great grandson, Marshall, who she absolutely adored. She loved jazz music and one of her absolute favorites was Benny Poole.
We are comforted by knowing that she is at peace and her legacy and social charm will live on in our hearts forever. A special note of gratitude to Morgan and Michelle of Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice for their tremendous compassion and care.
Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held from 1-4 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Jackson Eagles #612, 301 Detroit St. Jackson, Michigan 49201.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Carol Miller; three daughters, Terri (Dean) Stanton, Joy Miller, Linda (Steve) Bryden; son, Mark (Cheryl) Miller; nine grandchildren (one deceased); and five great-grandchildren and one due in October.
Dick was a faithful and cheerful servant of Grace Baptist Church for sixty years. He led a godly life, leading through example, preaching the truth, ministering through music and tending the flock.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and Papa to many children from the Miller licensed group home daycare.
Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial will be held in the future with the time and date still to be determined.

She had an unwavering love for her family, especially her cherished grandchildren, who brought endless joy to her life. Mi Mie's faith in the Lord was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life's triumphs and challenges. She wouldn’t be hesitant to share her favorite bible verses with anyone she met.
In her spare time, Mi Mie found immense pleasure in cooking delicious meals for her loved ones, relishing in the shared laughter and stories around the dinner table. She had a discerning palate for good food and took delight in sharing a plate of food with her husband.
Mi Mie also found solace in the simple pleasures of life, often taking leisurely walks with her husband to enjoy the beauty of nature that surrounded her. Additionally, she was known as the life of the party and could light up any gathering with her beautiful voice, frequently entertaining friends and family with her renditions of beloved songs during karaoke nights.
Mi Mie will be remembered for her compassionate heart and will be extremely missed by all who knew her.

Michael will be missed by all who knew him.

Throughout his life, Charles was not only a devoted family man but also a dedicated worker, spending years as a factory worker, mechanic, truck driver, and serving his country with honor. He found joy in riding motorcycles, camping, woodworking, playing guitar in local bands, and especially the time with his dog Masee.
Charles will be deeply missed by his loving wife, children, extended family, and friends. A memorial service to honor Charles's life will be held in the near future.

She worked as a CNA at Jackson Medical Facility prior to retirement.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Montie and Juanita Schultz; her loving spouse, Jim Turner; brother, Robert D. Schultz; and nephew, Jeffrey D. Schultz.
Cremation has taken place per Dorothy’s wishes. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution to a charity of donor’s choice. The family will have a celebration of Dorothy’s life at a later date.
