Russell Scott Ryder Sr. - November 23, 1951 - May 17, 2024

Departed: 05/17/2024 (Dover-Foxcroft)
Obituary Preview: Greenville -Russell Scott Ryder Sr., 72, passed away peacefully May 17, 2024. Russell was born November 23, 1951,in South Paris, the son of Richard and Jean Colby Ryder. Russell grew up in Maine and then moved to Massachusetts and then eventually moved back to Maine and became a lifelong resident of Greenville, where he lived for the last 50 years.
Russell was very well known around Greenville, a celebrity in his own right because he knew everyone and everyone knew him it seemed for the obvious reason, that he had the biggest heart and kind personality. It would have been impossible for anyone not to like him. His biggest dream in life was to have a place where he could spend time with his family. The dream he talked most of was having a place on the water where family could gather along with him to just enjoy the simple things in life. Well, that dream came true when his son Russell Jr. and his wife, Gina, bought a camp lot in Lincoln. Russell Sr. was beyond ecstatic about this because he knew what he always dreamed of had finally come true. He had a small camp built to put on the camp lot which was his pride and joy, so much so he carried a picture of his camp in his shirt pocket daily to remind him through the winter months that he would be there again in the spring. Even though he will not be able to be there anymore, his spirit will always reside at camp, the place he called his “Happy Place”. When he was at camp with family you could see the sparkle in his eyes, even when just sitting by the water in his chair watching and listening to his family laughing, talking and fishing. He loved to sit by the fire at night and share his life stories while family listened and let him take center stage, because he had many stories to tell of his life adventures, and anyone that knew him knew his life stories and he sure did have many. He loved when his son, Russell Jr., and son in law, Robert, would cook a feast for him, and these feasts were literally fit for a King because he was the King of camp and always will be in spirit. He especially loved the meal of what he called “black chicken”, that of being chicken very well done on the grill and a side of pasta salad. Russell also loved spending time at his home with his four cats Jack, Jill ,Little One, and Fluffernutter.
Russell is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann Ryder of Greenville; daughter, Paula and her husband, Robert Taylor of Saco; son, Russell Ryder Jr. and his wife, Gina of Lincoln; daughter, Tracy and her husband, Randy Antil of Dudley, Massachusetts; four stepchildren that he thought of as being his own, Robert Boudreau of Charlton, Massachusetts, Sandy Lyford of Delaware, and Wendy Boudreau and Tina Ainsworth both of Waterville; his 15 beloved grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and his best friend, Roger Warman of Greenville. Russell joins his mother, Jean Ryder; father, Richard Ryder; and son, Shawn Ryder in eternal life. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed that www.laryfuneralhome.com

Born on June 24, 1948,in Dover-Foxcroft to Dr. Francis W. and Mary (Wingard) Bradbury, Nora lived a full life of love, compassion, and dedication to her family and community.
Nora attended Foxcroft Academy and went on to marry the love of her life, Jeffrey Decker Merrill, Sr. They married on November 13, 1965, and remained married for 58 years. As much as she loved being a mom, that role didn’t come close to her most beloved role as “Nana”. Nora was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Mary, and her brothers, Jeff, and Francis “Junior” Bradbury.
Nora’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and friends, especially Ann Scribner and Diane Lord, who provided support and comfort during her final days. She will be greatly missed but forever remembered for her kind heart and fun-loving spirit.
A celebration of life will be held this summer.

Joan A. O'Connor - June 28, 1932 - April 24, 2024

Departed: 04/24/2024 (Dover-Foxcroft)
Obituary Preview: Garland- Joan Ann O’Connor, went to rest in the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, at the age of 91. She passed at Northern Light Mayo Hospital after a long and full life. Her family would like to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to Mayo’s staff during Joan’s stay in the ER as well as when receiving Comfort Care; their compassion and communication were exceptional.
Joan was born on June 28th, 1932, in Hartford, Connecticut, to John and Marion Wynn. After graduating high school, Joan worked as a typist before marrying Vaughn O’Connor in 1952. Joan and Vaughn moved to Maine after their third child was born, and eventually settled in Garland.
One of Joan’s most fervent hopes was to have a large, close family, and she definitely succeeded. Joan was the loving mother of six children, grandmother of 17, great-grandmother of 23, and great-great-grandmother of one. She loved hosting large family gatherings and was the glue that held her family together. As a wife and mother, Joan quickly honed superb cooking and gardening skills in order to help support her family. She continued to maintain both vegetable and flower gardens well after her children had children of their own. Her weekly Saturday baking sessions would leave her home smelling scrumptious, and her cookies were the stuff of legends.
Joan was a devout Catholic for her entire life. She attended St. Anne in Dexter for many years with one of her daughters and family. Joan was an avid reader and would lend or gift books to her family often. She enjoyed watching her “stories” (soap operas) and mystery TV shows, and keeping her mind sharp with crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, which were constantly in progress. Joan loved watching birds gather at her window feeder, and she was always amused when a cheeky chipmunk she named Chippy would make an appearance.
Staying active was a must for Joan. If she wasn’t cooking or gardening, she could be found walking the trails or riding her bike. She even went rollerskating with a granddaughter at age 65, all smiles. What’s more, Joan loved to travel, and vacationed from California to Canada. She enjoyed fairs and amusement parks and was often her grandchildren’s ride buddy. She was fearless on the big rides, with roller coasters being her favorite. She took everything life gave her in stride and will be missed beyond measure.
Joan is survived by her six children, Pearl Wintle and her husband Alan, Vaughn O’Connor and his wife Joy, Carol Robinson and her husband Dave, Paul O’Connor, Colleen Carlton and her husband John, and Stella MacDonald and her husband Dale; along with 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Vaughn; stillborn son, Patrick; half-sister, Catherine Knott; brother, John Wynn; and half-brother, Nelson Spencer.
