Shirley took great joy in raising her two children. She was a hard worker and in later years she was a real estate agent for Remax. On June 3, 1972, she married Richard L. Festerling, and they shared nearly 50 years of marriage. They enjoyed ballroom dancing and socializing at the Portage Eagles Lodge and the Kalamazoo VFW Hall. Her family includes her husband, Dick Festerling; her children: Stephen (Pam) Moore and Cynthia (Steve Wightman) Rose; her stepchildren: Valerie McWilliams and Jennifer (Jonathan) Stout; her grandchildren: Daniel and Melanie; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jerry and Ronald Malinowski. Eleanor Jaffe - February 14, 1926 - April 13, 2022

Obituary Preview: Eleanor (Schoth) Jaffe peacefully passed away on April 13, 2022, while under hospice and Friendship Village's Woodside care in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Eleanor was 96 and was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1926, in Corvallis, Oregon to Dorothy (Hartung) and Harry A. Schoth. She graduated from Corvallis High School. While working in a Navy hospital, she met a persistent sailor, Aaron Jaffe, before he went back overseas in July 1945. They married in New York City in 1946. Eleanor worked as a secretary in the Empire State Building until she was carrying her first born. Then she worked at home keeping house, gardening, making clothes for growing children and helping neighbors with their outdoor projects. Eleanor was loved to bake, knit, sew, garden and quilt. She and Aaron lived in a house they built in East Meadow, Long Island. In 2011, they moved into Friendship Village in Kalamazoo where she helped revitalize the gardens and inspired other residents to join her. Eleanor is survived by her sister, Lois McKee; her son, Donald (Diana) Jaffe; daughter, Carol (Nick) Pratt; grandsons: James (Debra) Woodside, Colin Woodside, Daniel Jaffe, granddaughter Erin Jaffe; as well as two great-grand stepsons: Jeremiah and Cole Williams; and one great granddaughter, Samantha Woodside. Eleanor is predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Harry Schoth, and her husband, Aaron Jaffe. Eleanor will be cremated, and her ashes will be spread over the Pacific Ocean off the Oregon coast, as were her parents.

Alan C. Isaak - January 21, 1940 - April 11, 2022

Obituary Preview: Passed away Monday morning, April 11, 2022, at his home. Alan was born January 21, 1940, in Cleveland, OH the son of Alfonse and Rose (Gibbons) Isaak.

Alan dedicated his life to scholarly pursuits. He received his undergraduate degree from Case Western Reserve and his master's and doctorate from Indiana University. He worked as a professor of political science for 43 years at Western Michigan University. During his long career at Western, he received numerous excellence awards and published multiple books. He was an avid book collector and reader and a fan of Cleveland sports teams.

What really made Alan special was his deep love for his family. Liz and Alan were soul mates and shared a rare love for each other that is not found very often. His pride and joy were his children and grandkids and he loved nothing more than to spend his time making up silly games and spending time with them. He was the most amazing Dad and Poppy!

On June 13, 1964, Alan was united in marriage to his loving wife of 58 years, Elizabeth (Koester) who survives. Also, surviving are his children, Eric Isaak, Greta Baker, Josh (PoWah); grandchildren, Ryne, Avery, Bailey, Nolan, and Ian; and several nieces and nephews. Alan was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Walker. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Private family interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.

He was a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area. On October 12, 1963, he was united in marriage to Cheryl J. Cole. He is survived by two sons, Ronald of Portage and David of Comstock; five grandchildren Kristen, Courtney, Kurtis, Kevin, Kyle; a great granddaughter, Avah; one brother, Charles; one sister, Martha (Kouder), many nieces and nephews. James was preceded in passing by his wife, Cheryl; his parents; his stepmom, Trena; and his brother, John. He enjoyed his quiet time, fishing, and road trips to South Haven.

In accordance with James' wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial celebration of James' life will be held at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 622 South Burdick Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49007, on Tuesday May 3, 2022, at 2pm

She graduated from Seward High School and attended Kearney State College and Old Dominion University. Pam was a teaching associate for many years at various elementary schools in the Iowa City Community School District. Additionally, she worked for and retired from Residential Services at the University of Iowa. Her family includes her daughters: Heather (Todd) Haigh and Jessica (Brandon) Pierce; her grandchildren: Emily Haigh, Ashlyn Haigh, Brooklyn Pierce, and Isabella Pierce. As well as her sister: Beverly (Ken) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents: George and Idamarie Brust. Pam loved her children and grandchildren fiercely. They fondly remember the hours Pam spent playing with toys and going on adventures together when they were young. Pam had the most wonderful and contagious laugh. She loved going for coffee, eating out at restaurants, spending time with her girlfriends, going to movies, and shopping for gifts. Although dementia stole her from us way too early, we are thankful that she is now at peace and pain free. Pam chose cremation and a private memorial service to be held later. We are thankful for the loving care she received from Legacy Gardens in Iowa City, StoryPoint Memory Care, and CorsoCare Hospice in Michigan.

He leaves behind his beloved children, Stephen (Joy) Westra, Robinne (Toddy) Helsel, Amy (Tom) Block, BJ (Cheryl) Westra; grandchildren, Danielle Westra, Jordan (Meagan) Westra, Nicholas (Melissa) Crandall, Cameron (Chelsea) Ramer, Brynn (Larry) Colwell, Brice Ramer, Kayleigh (Matt) Veldt, Lauren (Michael) Riley, Marquette Block, Savannah (Kyle) Lemmer, Brooklyn (William) Hatfield, Mackinney Block, Joshua (Linnea) Westra, and Levi Westra; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Patricia (Jerry) Pinkster, Herman (Georgia) Westra; Marian (Melvin) VanDyk, Marilynn (Dale) Hoeksema, and Karl Westra (special friend Kristine); sister-in-law, Judy (John) Kline; and several nieces and nephews. Throughout his children's growing-up years, Bernie passionately served as a baseball coach at Milwood Little League and as a basketball coach for the YMCA youth church league. He faithfully worked for The Upjohn Company for 35 years and served several years after his retirement as the custodian at Grace Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed his family vacations to Gun Lake while his children were young. In his retirement, he enjoyed visiting flea markets and garage sales and purchasing antiques/treasures to refinish for his children and grandchildren. He loved laying in his pool on a summer afternoon after work (no kids or splashing allowed) and, later in life, enjoyed time watching his kids, their friends and finally his grandkids and great grandchildren playing around the pool. He was a faithful member of Second Christian Reformed Church. Funeral services will be held 11am Friday, April 8th at Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Rd, Kalamazoo, MI 49004. Bernie's family will receive guests at the church beginning at 10am and again during a reception following the service. Private graveside services will be held in Riverside Cemetery. A special thank you to the wonderful nurses and health care aids provided by Centrica Care at Rose Arbor Place. JoAnn grew up in Paris, Michigan, where she attended high school. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Aquinas College with a double major in English/Latin. She taught English at Comstock and Gull Lake School districts. She married Larry Owen Johnson in 1959 in Big Rapids, Michigan who preceded her in death on May 7, 2010. They were married 50 years. JoAnn raised 3 children and worked very hard in various local greenhouses for 25 years. She lived in Parchment where she had a passion for gardening. Our family is grateful to know that she is finally at peace. We wish to thank Centrica Care Navigators, formerly Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan and Dr. George Seifert of Kalamazoo. He was born on April 24, 1951 in Kalamazoo, the son of Robert and Mary Louise (Angell) Boucher. David grew up in the Vicksburg area. He graduated from Bronson High School and attended Glen Oaks Community College. On March 20, 1971 he married his junior high sweetheart Constance "Connie" Locey and just celebrated their 51st anniversary. David was a true family man. Over the years, he worked as a groundman for Consumers Power and for over 25 years at the Upjohn Company and Pharmacia. More recently he enjoyed his time in Environmental Services at Bronson Hospital. He loved the exercise and social interactions with his role at the hospital. Family was always his main focus though. Over the years he was active in Vicksburg Little League with his children and grandchildren. David enjoyed being the daycare grandpa for his grandchildren when they were young. His family includes his wife, Connie Boucher; his children: Michael (Holly) Boucher and Kellie (Marty) Thomas; his grandchildren: Kyler Ridenour, Will Thomas, Delaney Thomas, and Cameron Boucher; his brother, Tom (Carol) Boucher; his sister, Carol Boucher; and several nieces and nephews. MaryAnn Louise Durocher - October 26, 1921 - March 22, 2022

Obituary Preview: Mary Ann Durocher passed away on March 22, 2022, at the age of 100. If you ever met Mary Ann Durocher, Kiki to her family, chances are you remember her. She had a gift for making an indelible impression on people with her strong opinions, keen wit, and sharp tongue. Kiki was the second of five children born to Louise and Otto Durocher on October 26, 1921, and was raised on the west side of Detroit. She was smart and motivated. She got her bachelor's degree from Marygrove College and was among the few women accepted into the University of Michigan's medical program. She earned a master's in nursing from Yale University, a masters in bacteriology from the University of Michigan, and completed coursework for a PhD in pediatric nursing at Michigan. She worked as a nurse, taught at the university level, and spent most of her career at Upjohn in Kalamazoo, where she kept doctors informed of the latest innovations and research in pharmaceuticals. Toward the end of her 100-year life, she often spoke about how eager she was to be reunited with her mother in heaven (though she did suggest someone bury her with a fire extinguisher just in case). She is also preceded in death by her father, brothers Charles and Robert, sister Genoveve (Durocher) Ash, nephews Leonard Ash and Mark Durocher, and niece Nancy (Holtgreive) Ahmann. She is survived by her sister Joan (Durocher) Holtgreive, her loving niece and tireless champion, Maryjo (Holtgreive) Lemanski, plus 17 nieces, nephews and their families.

Obituary Preview: Todd Eugene Skinner, born September 15, 1958 - left this earth on March 20, 2022 after a brief but intense fight with liver cancer. He left peacefully with family by his side. Todd was a quiet man, but once you got to know him, he was very warm and funny - having a quick, biting humor. He worked for 24 years at Victor Plastics (which was blended with Triple S Plastics), being taught the ways of injection molding by his good friend Rod Bell. He held many positions, ending as a supervisor. Much fun was had over the years with our Victor Plastics Family. (Oh, the stories we could tell...) After changes at Triple S, he left and joined the T.H. Plastics team where he was a supervisor and then their local box truck driver (He enjoyed that job the most). He enjoyed his coworker's friendship at T.H. Plastics, especially Marcie, Tina, and Calvin. He met his wife of 42 years, Sandra Glenn Skinner, at Victor Plastics in the summer on 1979 (she chased him until he caught her). Together they had three awesome children. Todd led a simple life but it was a life full of love. He could fix most anything - including cars and most things around the house. He was both handy and handsome. Todd is survived by his wife, Sandy, and his three children - TJ Skinner, Chelsea (Patrick) Sebastian, and Aaron Skinner.
