Obituary Preview: Eva Wasiw, 94, of Fernwood, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 5th, 2024.
Eva was born on November 18th 1929 to Alexander and Anna Rusnak of Fernwood. Eva was raised in Fernwood and later worked at General Cigar in Phillipsburg. She later married Frank Wasiw of Beccaria and had one daughter, Denise.
Upon Frank's passing in 1988, Eva went on to run the couple's family business Frank's Gun Shop. She quickly became a subject matter expert on guns, ammo, and hunting supplies. While running the shop, Eva touched many lives and made lifelong friends in the surrounding area. Aside from running the shop, Eva enjoyed spending time with her family, playing Bingo, and taking trips to Atlantic City. She was also a devout member of the St Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Smithmill, PA.
Eva was predeceased by her husband, mother, father, brothers Jake and Mikey, and sisters Mary, Ann, and Katie. She is survived by her daughter Denise, Son in Law Jerry, two Grandsons Nathan and Jason, two Great Grandchildren Alyssa and Justin, and several nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Robert A. Korinchak, 82 of Gibsonia, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Vincentian Home, Pittsburgh, PA.
Born on May 15, 1941 in Smithmill, PA, Clearfield County, he was the son of the late Tony and Nancy Korinchak of St. Michael, PA.
Robert was a 1959 graduate of Adams-Summerhill High School, Sidman, PA where he was an honor graduate, President of his Senior Class, the National Honor Society and a member of various sporting programs. Upon graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he began working for the General Accounting Office in Washington, DC as an Auditor.
Never married, he was a life-long resident of Burke, VA in Fairfax County. During his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling and visiting his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and family members. He will be missed by his many friends and family members.
Robert is survived by his brother, Joseph (Susan) Korinchak of Gibsonia, PA, niece, Sandra Korinchak of Pittsburgh, PA, nephew Donald (Sarah) Korinchak of Fairfax, VA, niece, Debra (Phil) Aiken of Media, PA and six great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by nephew, Stephen Korinchak.
Friends will be received Saturday from 11am until the time of services at 12pm at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ramey. Fr. Jim Davidson will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

On April 14, 1954, she married James Krause. He preceded her in death on January 14, 2013.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Ron) Peachman of Smokerun; three sons, Robert (Tena) Krause of Madera, John (Wendy) Krause of Ramey, and William (Cindy) Krause of Clearfield; a sister, Annamae Klinger of Clearfield; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Krause, Jr.; a daughter, Sandra Opinski; a granddaughter, Lisa Buck; three brothers, Sherman, Jim, and Bobby; and three sisters, Ethel, Evelyn, and Shirley.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

James Cervenak - November 19, 1942 - March 10, 2024

Obituary Preview: James Andrew Cervenak, 81, of Morann, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
Jim was born on November 19, 1942 in Morann at the same residence he resided. He was the son of the late Valentine and Anna (Gulash) Cervenak.
On October 8, 1966 he married Rosemary Diane Rakar in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Houtzdale.
As a member of the IBEW Local 126 since 1966, he worked as a Union Lineman and Foreman for many years as he traveled throughout Pennsylvania. He would reminisce on his travels of all the substations, towers and traffic lights he installed throughout the state. A parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church in Houtzdale serving as a lector and dedicated volunteer for the Labor Day Parish festivals and third-degree knight in the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of the Valley Council 10376. Jim’s passion for gardening, evident in the annual harvest of bountiful vegetables he proudly shared with family, friends, and neighbors. Jim loved local sports, including Moshannon Valley, Penn State, and Pittsburgh teams. His appreciation for the outdoors, coupled with moments spent admiring nature and wildlife while listening to Polka music, reflects a deep sense of joy in simple yet meaningful pleasures.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Cervenak, Magdelene Vild, and Marvine Zazworsky.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he will be dearly missed by his children, Lori (Scott) Coleman of Carlisle, James A. Cervenak, Jr. of Morann, Katherine (Ty) Gingrich of Dillsburg, and Cheryl (Bryan) Chadderton of Aldie, VA; three sisters, Helen Kost of Michigan, Irene Bailey of Florida, and Frances Clancy of New York; one brother, Joseph Cervenak of Morann; two grandchildren, Vanessa (Fred) Caruso of Sinking Springs and Derrick Coleman of Philadelphia; and one great-granddaughter, Kora Caruso.
He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephew, and great nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received 4:00-7:00pm Thursday and 9:30-10:30am Friday at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc, Ramey. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00am at Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale. Fr. Johnathan Schmolt will officiate. Born on August 12, 1933 in Morann, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (McCloskey) Frankovich.
She graduated from the Moshannon Joint High School in Madera. On July 28,1956, she married John Popovitch, Jr. in St. Barbara’s Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in 2007.
She was a founding parishioner of St. Barbara Polish National Catholic Church in Houtzdale, where she was a previous secretary and treasurer of the Parish Board, a past choir member, part of the Barburki Dance Group, the Ladies ANS Society of St. Barbara as financial secretary for fifteen years, the local branch financial secretary of the Polish National Union of Scranton, PA, and financial secretary for Spojnia A Life Insurance for twelve years.
She worked for General Cigar Co. in Philipsburg, Sylvania in Houtzdale and Altoona, and lastly at the Progress News, Clearfield.
She will be dearly missed by three daughters, Cory (George) Bell of Bellwood, Jacqueline (Dr. Jerry) Mikesell of Prescott, AZ, and Michelle (Dave) Fink of Chino Valley, AZ ; six grandchildren, Matthew Bell, Natalie Hoyt, Aaron Bell, Sarah Cline, David Fink, and Chase Fink; eight great-grandchildren; and a loving niece, Regina Keith, who was like a fourth daughter to her.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Deao, and six brothers, Vincent, Joseph, Robert, Frank, Paul, and Martin Frankovich.
We would also like to thank the angels from Medi home hospice and Colonial Courtyard in Tyrone for their tender loving care of our Mother in her last weeks.

She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Patricia Laskowsky, Victoria Andrako, and Catherine Rusnak; and five brothers, Martin, Michael “Bugs”, Francis “Fuzzy”, James, and Charles Laskowsky.

Anita Pollick - January 25, 1926 - January 26, 2024

Obituary Preview: Anita Pollick, 98, of Smithmill, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024 at her home.
Born on January 25, 1926 in, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Filomena (Gaggiotti) Morroni.
On November 25, 1948, she married Samuel Pollick in Janesville UMC. He preceded her in death in 2004.
Anita Pollick was a first-generation American, hailing from an Italian family. She didn’t speak English when she went to first grade, but soon learned the language, speaking both languages fluently. She loved her childhood family and brought that love to her own family as an adult. She was so proud of her family and always wanted what was best for her children. She was a generous and giving person.
Her father started Morroni Bros. Florists in Smithmill, PA, and he had a job waiting for her when she graduated Madera High School. When her father retired, she and her two brothers (Ernest and Roald) inherited the business. She worked right alongside her brothers with the manual work, she was the accountant for the business and in the evenings, she made the bows for the fresh flower arrangements. She retired at age 75.
She was a member of the Janesville United Methodist Church. For the gatherings at the church, she loved making food or desserts, and at the soup and sandwich sale for election days she would make 8 gallons of homemade soup! Her last time she made soup was when she was 93 years old.
She is survived by a daughter, Pamela (Michael) Babick; a son, Sam Gregson (Marilyn) Pollick; a sister, Amelia Fedorko; grandchildren, Dottie (Babick) Spera, Joyce (Babick) Graham, Richard Babick, Sarah Babick, Shelly (Neal) Salzman, Dylan Salzman, Ben Redell, Clay Redell, and Lauren Redell.
She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest, Roald, and Raymond Morroni; and two sisters, Clothilda Cornelius and Wanda Person.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring 2024.

She is survived by three daughters, Kathy Hagyard of Philipsburg, Donna Srock of Smithmill, and Beth Jasper of Smithmill; a brother, William Wiseman of Smithmill; a sister, Rose Kercenneck of Houtzdale, two grandchildren, Allen Michael Srock and Zachary William Jasper; and three great-grandchildren, Amelia Srock, Sawyer Srock, and Liam Jasper.
She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Rowles, and a brother David Wiseman.
Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family deeply.

Born on April 18, 1931in Osceola Mills, she was the daughter of the late James and Martha (Kisinki) Wood.
She was a graduate of Madera High School class of 1949. She then attended nursing school from 1949-1952. She worked and retired after twenty three years as an RN Supervisor at Philipsburg State Hospital. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Houtzdale, American Legion Post 591 Auxillary, and BPW of Houtzdale. She also assisted the Red Cross with blood drives at the church.
On August 23, 1952, she married Charles W. Weierick Sr. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ramey. He preceded her in death in 1980. She is survived by a sister, Delores Fudrow of State College, and two grandchildren, Erika Weierick and Charles W. Weierick, III
She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles W. Weierick, Jr., and two sisters, Jean Karlinchak and Marion West.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 15, 2024 at 1 PM at Christ the King Catholic Church in Houtzdale with Fr. Johnathan Schmolt as celebrant. Interment will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Houtzdale.

He was born on March 23, 1931 in Beccaria, PA, a son of the late Andrew T. and Catherine (Gresek) Popyack.
He graduated from BCI High School in 1950. He briefly played minor league baseball. Ed proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict from 1952-1956 and was named Airman of the Month while stationed at Beale Air Force Base in California. He worked for 33 years at Westinghouse Electric. He was a member of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Youngwood. He enjoyed gardening, playing bingo and watching sports as well as attending his children’s activities.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 5 sisters (Mary Varnovich, Ann Welch, Irene Solensky, Catherine Hart, Margaret Temchack) and 4 brothers (Joseph, Andrew “Lefty”, Leonard & Martin).
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Ann (Lutchka) Popyak; two sons, Edward Jr., of Altoona, and Stephen of New Stanton and one brother, Francis (Henrietta) of Murrysville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc – Ramey, PA.

Born May 1, 1928 in Boardman, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Kowalcyk) Henshaw.
Helen graduated from Madera High School in 1945. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ramey.
Helen married Preston J. Kephart in Clearfield on September 3, 1949. He preceded her in death in 2008.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her eight siblings, Metro, Michael, and John Henshaw, and Catherine Kowalski, Annette Galecky, Bess Timko, Evelyn Galchik, and Mary Grazier.
Helen was the last of her immediate family.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and a special caregiver, Angela Acey.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Annunciation Catholic Church in Ramey, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxillary. Delores enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, and church activities.
On April 23, 1955 she married Harry Yebernetsky in St. Mary’ Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ramey. He preceded her in death in 2012.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Malan, Frances Price, and Catherine Smolko; and six brothers, Michael, Andrew, Joseph, Martin, Edward, and Albert Slinkosky.
She is survived by two children, Gregory (Beverly) Yebernetsky of Hedgesville, WV, and Diane (Jerry) Belgin of Gulfport, MS; two siblings, Betty Patkalisky of Tonawanda, NY, and James Slinkosky of Boca Raton, FL; four grandchildren, Sarah Belgin of Gulfport, MS, Samantha (Bhuvi) Bharti of Baton Rouge, LA, Ben (Audra) Yebernetsky of Inwood, WV, and Autumn (Daniel) Tucker of Hedgesville, WV; and four great-grandchildren, Andrew and Raelin Yebernetsky, and Mira nd Mason Bharti.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Reese, 85, of Houtzdale, died Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at her home.
Born on July 9, 1938 in Philipsburg, she was the beloved daughter of Michael and Anna (Suharsky) Sustrik.
On August 30, 1963, in Philipsburg, she married William Rhys Reese of Ramey. She is survived by her loving children, Dr. Tracie Sue Tomasko, and her husband Thomas, of Houtzdale, William “Bill” Reese, and his wife Melissa, of Flinton, and Pauline “Polly” Elizabeth Reese of NJ. Additionally, she leaves behind four cherished granddaughters, Vanessa Marie Tomasko of State College, Amy Elizabeth Tomasko Sachdeva, and her husband DJ, of State College, Gabrielle Valerie-Rhys Sharp of UT, and Olivia Louise Reese of Flinton; a great-grandchild in NJ, along with a blessed expected great-granddaughter of State College; and several dearly loved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William, her parents, and her cherished sister, Mary Elizabeth Conti, along with her brother-in-law, Carl. She also joins several other beloved family members who have passed, including her brother, John George Sustrik, and his wife Verna Sustrik; her nephew, William John Conti; and her great-granddaughter, Moira Elizabeth Dougherty; her father-in-law, William Stanley Reese, and her mother-in-law, Adele Elizabeth Reese.
She graduated from Philipsburg-Osceola High School in the class of 1956. Subsequently, she earned an associate degree in Letters, Arts, and Sciences from Pennsylvania State University, Altoona campus in 1987, and a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from the College of Education at Pennsylvania State University, University Park, in 1989. Her post graduate studies included courses from Lock Haven University, Clearfield Campus, Gannon University, Penn State University, and Carlow College.
Following her college graduation, she embarked on a fulfilling career as a Special Education teacher within the Moshannon Valley School District. She dedicated eighteen years of herself to this rule until her retirement on November 30, 2007. Over the years, she served as the Senior Class Advisor from 1993 to 2010, and took the role of Game Manager from 2002-2007.
Elizabeth was not only a co-founder but also an ardent contributor to the Moshannon Valley Widows/Widowers Support Group since inception in 1990. Her dedication extended to various roles within the organization, from serving as a Board Member, Chairperson, Secretary, and Publicity Chairperson, among others.
Throughout her life, she actively engaged in a multitude of community and civic activities. She held the esteemed position of Past President of the Moshannon Valley Parent Teachers Association at Madera Center and was the driving force behind the organization and presidency of the Parent Teacher Student Association.
Elizabeth was a passionate advocate for her community, and her involvement extended to roles as on organizer and former member of the Holy Trinity Church Council, a dedicated member of various education associations, including PSEA, PASR, and NEA, and as a past community chairperson for the American Cancer Society in Ramey. Her contributions extended to the arts, as she was an active member of the Houtzdale Lions Club Showboat Minstrel since 1990, and a participant in the original Philipsburg Bicentennial Choir, which later transformed into Valley Voices. She was also a charter member of the Moshannon Valley Lady Damsels Court Club and served as both charter member and president of the Moshannon Valley Music Association.
In addition to her community involvement, Elizabeth was engaged in the political arena, where she served as a past vice-chairman of the Ramey Republican Party. She was a dedicated member of the Houtzdale American Legion Auxillary and the Houtzdale Lions Club. Her dedication to healthcare was evident as she served as a past member of the Advisory Professional Group of the Clearfield Hospital Home Health Services, representing the Houtzdale Home Health Office. She was also a representative on the Advisory Board of the Cleafield County Vo-Tech Practical Nurses division.
Elizabeth’s philanthropic spirit shone through her involvement as a past volunteer and member of the Board of Directors of the Clearfield County Special Olympics, past president of the Clearfield County PTA, and a past member of the PTA District Board of Directors. She played a vital role as a former Girl Scout leader of Troop 420, introducing and initiating it within the Moshannon Valley School District.
Her commitment to education was exemplified by her membership in the Penn State Council of Exceptional Children and her role as a Penn State representative to the Delegate Assembly for two years. She also served as a past secretary of DCED and was a member of SPSEA, the Newmans, Penn State RASO, and Chapter 2 Advisory Council.
Elizabeth was a devout member of the Holy Trinity Church, where she actively particicpated in the church choir and the Resurrection Choir. She was also recognized as a Charter member and former Secretary of the Holy Trinity Family Association of the Holy Trinity Church in Ramey, as well as a devoted Recording Secretary of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Victoria #646.
She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Hiller Family Memorial Library, where she held the position of President and organized the Friends of the Library. Her commitment to education was further demonstrated by her role as a charter member of the CDA State choir and as a Committee Member of the 1956 Philipsburg Osceola Class Reunions. Elizabeth’s dedication to education and her community earned her a place in the Who’s Who in American Education. Notably, she was named Woman of the Year by the Philipsburg Business and Professional Woman’s Club in 1992.
Her passions encompassed a deep love for gardening, crafts, music, and dancing. However, above all, her most cherished moments were spent in the company of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.
As a devout member of Holy Trinity Church in Ramey a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 10 am with Fr. Zab Amar presiding over the service. Following the Mass, she will be laid to rest in the IOOF Cemetery, Brisbin.

Cecilia was a member of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church in Tyrone and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Her and Norman enjoyed camping, traveling, motorcycle riding, and spending time with family. She loved reading and gardening and spending time with her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
