Thomas "Tom" McDowell - March 20, 1935 - January 03, 2022

Obituary Preview: “Tom would like you to know that his work here is done. He received a sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus-a reunion with family and friends and his dog Brownie, who he has not seen in a long time.”Tom McDowell passed peacefully with his wife, Donna, at his side on January 3, 2022, after a long illness. Thomas Purnell McDowell was born on 03/20/1935 in Woodland, Pa. To Roland Willard McDowell and Isabel McDowell, and sister Mary Lou (Mcdowell) Jay. Tom is predeceased by both his parents, Willard and Isabel McDowell, His sister Mary Lou Jay and her husband Walter Jay. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Donna McDowell and two sons Jeffrey(Doreen Scarano) McDowell and Jay (Beverly Wilkerson) McDowell. His close circle of friends will miss him at their weekly edge of Town dinner. Tom had a great aptitude for math and after graduating from Clearfield High School, Clearfield, Pa, he attended University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pa, and was a member pf Sigma Pi Fraternity. Tom received a Degree of Pharmacy in 1958. While working at his first job in Ohio, on October 14, 1958, Tom was inducted into the U.S.Army and was sent to Fort Hamilton, NY. He convinced his fiancee to move to New York City so they could be together. He had met her in 1957 . while Donna was attending nursing school and Tom was finishing his pharmacy degree. Before his tenure in the military he married the love of his life, Donna Routman and unpon Tom’s honorable discharge from the Army they moved back to Ohio. The welcomed their first son Jeffrey and a few years later son Jay, completed their family. Tom was meticulous and steadfast in his career and opened may new pharmacies through out Ohio. His last positions were in Dayton, Ohio, were he worked for a large hospital system in multiple retail pharmacies and managing a large nursing home pharmacy. His hours were long but always made sure all the needs were met. The family always look forward to vacations. His sons fondly remember their dad helping pass the time on road trips by providing them with a calculator and challenging them to multiply 3 and 4 digits faster then Tom could without a calculator and while driving. Tom won most of the time. Tom was a great prankster and no-one was safe on April 1st. The rest of the year he amused us with endless jokes and endless wit. Tom was a skilled photographer and took many pictures of the family, developing them himself. He never out grew his love for fishing learning not to fall in the stream as he did many times as a kid. He also captioned his own sail boat and enjoyed taking his wife and many friends out for a sail in many lakes in Ohio and Indiana. He was a lover of the arts and took up stained glass making as a hobby after retirement. He also enjoyed golfing, tennis, biking, but was an expert at smoking meat on the barbecue. A memorial service and interment will be on February 17. 2022, at 10:00 AM, at Southern Nevada Veteran’s Cemetery, 1900 Veteran’s Memorial Drive, Suite 2, Boulder City, NV. At a later date some of his remains will be spread in the Pacific Ocean at a private gathering. Kraft Sussman is charged with the final arrangements. A very special thank you goes out to all his caregivers with a special thanks to Louis McHugh for the very best of home care Tom could receive, Helping him find solace in music when illness took over until his residency at Grand Montecito Memory Care in June 2021. A big, thank you to Dawn Argon and all the staff for the special touches they provided to make Tom’s last days more meaningful. The family asked in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 5190 S. Valley View Blvd, Suite #104, Las Vegas, NV 89119, in Tom’s name which would be greatly appreciated. Or a donation of your choice is also appreciated, or a toast to honor Tom with his favorite drink, bourbon on the rocks with a twist of lemon.May his tenacious, brave, and generous spirit live on in our memories

Obituary Preview: We lost a creative soul on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. Jim Aaron was a haiku poet, writer of songs and prose, as well as a world-class guitarist. Writing under the nom de plume Jimmy the Peach, his work was enjoyed across the world. He appreciated nature and beauty in all forms. His sense of humor was legendary.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Married to Patti for 32 years, he was stepfather to Cameron Cheal (Christine) and grandfather to Elliott and Griffin. He cherished his family and loved his grandsons with all his heart.
A member of 12-step programs, Jim was clean and sober for 36 years, beginning that journey in the Petaluma and Santa Rosa fellowships.
A former resident of Sonoma County, he currently resided in Henderson, NV. He developed a severe infection of unknown origin and passed after three weeks in the hospital. He was 67 years old.
Born in Bakersfield, CA, to Al and Ellie Aaron, Jim was the second of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Mary and Amy. He is survived by siblings Jeff Aaron (Rosalyn), John Aaron (Rose), and Anne Johnson (Ken), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Obituary Preview: Ronald Anthony Hill, 79, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on November 18, 2021. Ron was born in Los Angeles, California, and was raised in foster homes until his father, Arthur E. Hill, returned from service in the Army Air Corp. He was subsequently raised by his father and beloved stepmother, Lucille K. Hill.
After attending UC Berkley, he served in the US Army and rose to the rank of sergeant, becoming an armor instructor at Fort Knox. Upon being released from active duty, Ron entered the insurance business, specializing in aviation and aerospace insurance. At the age of 26, Ron founded his own company, Aviation Insurance Services, which became one of the top 100 brokerage firms in the US with several offices nationwide. He was devoted to his colleagues and staff and had close friendships with many clients and underwriters across the world. Ron sold the company in 2010 to a major brokerage firm, where he ran their aerospace division until his retirement at the age of 75.
In 1981, Ron married his soulmate and best friend, Cheryl Ann Boyd. They had two wonderful and loving children, Mike and Ali. He was a loving and supportive partner to Cheri, and an amazing father to their children. Ron loved watching football and golf, reading a good book with a glass of scotch, and telling everyone his latest jokes. He never met a stranger and was happiest when he was surrounded by friends, family, and most of all his wife.
In addition to his wife, Cheri, of Las Vegas, NV, his son Michael (Carolina), and his daughter, Alexandra (Andrew) of Los Angeles, CA, Ron is survived by his brothers, Gary Hill, John Vergona, Tom Vergona, Geoffrey Hill, Timothy Hill, Kevin Hill, and Brian Hill, as well as his in-laws of the Boyd family and his nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

Those who knew him will remember him as unstoppable “Super Kid” and will miss his dedication, generosity and quirkiness.
He was preceded in death by his brother Jeffrey Moore and his father-in-law Andrzej Lagowski.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years Ela Moore, father James Moore, mother Rebecca Kewish, brother Tad Gibson, uncle Terry Moore. He is also survived by his family in Poland: mother-in-law Maria Lagowska, brother-in-law Jaroslaw (Elzbieta) Lagowski, sister-in-law Agnieszka (Mieczyslaw) Kozun, sister-in-law Magdalena (Grzegorz)Witkowski. He will be missed by his niece Weronika and nephews: Szymon, Franek, Marcel and Milosz.
Service will be cremation by Aquamation at Kraft Sussman Funeral home. Ashes will be scattered into the Pacific Ocean at a later date. Immediate family will hold a private gathering of remembrance.

Betty Kay was born on March 20th,1951 in Bakersfield, California to William Elbert Johns and Bernice Bell Johns (Sweeten). On November 7th, 1970, Betty Kay married Larry D. Bell and spent the next 51 years on their adventure in life. Betty Kay was known for her love of animals that eventually led to volunteering and fostering cats. Betty spent her working years in the hospitality industry as a housekeeper for the local hospital in Medford, Oregon and various other businesses in New Mexico and Washington. Betty’s kids and grandkids were the second loves of her life and she enjoyed spending time with them. Betty was a gardener with a love for roses and had a house full of plants that she constantly started shoots for others to enjoy. Betty Kay’s favorite hobbies were playing the penny machines at her favorite casino, walking her fur-babies, and coffee hour with friends.
Betty is survived by her husband Larry D. Bell Sr and their fur-babies Jack and Gracie, her six siblings; Ray Johns (Kathy), Rosemary Baker, Bernita Thomas (George), Ruby Thomas (Lowell), Dean Johns (Charlene), and David Johns (Lorraine). Betty’s children; Jeffrey Bell (Tami), Larry D. Bell (Jodi), Shannon Bayne (Matt), Crystal Thornton (Morgan), and Karen Jakubiszen (Mike). Betty Kay had 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, 16 nieces and nephews, and numerous great- nieces and nephews. Betty had a big heart, she treated anyone who came into her home like family. She will be missed by many friends who have become family.
Preceding Betty Kay in passing, is her father William Elbert Johns, her mother-in-law Gladys Ruth Bell, her sister-in-law Arylene Ruth Merrill and husband Edward Merrill, her brother-in-law Phillip “Mac” Baker, her niece Tammy Baker, and her father-in-law Dee Webb Bell. Obituary Preview: John S. McGroarty, 80, a Nevada judge for almost 30 years, died in his home after a long illness.
John was a proud Nevadan. He attended St. Joseph’s School and Bishop Gorman High School. He then went to Notre Dame, graduating in 1963. He went to the District of Columbia to attend Howard Law School, graduating in 1969. He worked for US Senator Howard Cannon as an officer on the Capitol Hill Police Force and then as a legislative assistant on the Senator’s staff. While on the staff he worked for the Democratic National Committee and the 1968 presidential campaign of Us Senator Hubert Humphrey.
After returning to Las Vegas, John clerked for Judge John Mendoza and practiced law with former Nevada Governor and US Senator Richard Bryan and Oscar Goodman. In December 1970 John was asked by Nevada Governor-Elect Michael O’ Callaghan to be his administrative assistant and legal advisor. At the if O’Callaghan ‘s second term, John was appointed as Justice of the Peace in Las Vegas and won first election in 1978. He became a District Court Judge in 1982, retiring in 2006 and served as a senior judge for two years.
He is remembered for his commitment to children and the disadvantaged. He then chose to be the district court judge for Clark Country Juvenile Court for six years. He was the driving force behind the formation of Family Court and Southern Nevada’s Mental Health Court. He felt strongly about those who had nobody to speak for them; he became their voice.
John was preceded in death by his parents, James Michael McGroarty and Ruth Palmer McGroarty. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy and their children, Meghan McGroarty, John Steven McGroarty III(Katy). Also, his beloved grandchildren, Maggie, Derek, Kenny and Serinity. Also, he is further survived by his siblings, Michael McGroarty, Patrick McGroarty, and Mary Thomas.

Dear cousins Sheila Clark, Karen Borozinski, Kathy Johnson, Mike Gilstad, and Dwyer family cousins.
Many nieces and nephews including Maria Hastings, Philip Jr. (Amber) Hastings, Felicia (Brian) Proudfoot, Jonathan Hastings, Kenny, Kyle and Kristie Parsick.

Obituary Preview: Stephen Dean George, beloved husband, father, father-in-law, and Papaw, died on Saturday, October 10th in his home in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Dean was born in Bedford, Texas on June 7th, 1949 to Everett Levoy and LoRene (Dean) George. He grew up in Texas with his brothers, David and Trey (Everett Levoy III), climbing trees, shooting down sunflower stalks with BB guns (sometimes missing and getting each other) and eating watermelon growing in the fields. He played football and baseball, but found his passion in gymnastics, his junior year in high school. In 1967 he helped lead his gymnastics team to State Championship and sang tenor in the State Choir. He attended Odessa College on a gymnastics scholarship and participated in the theatre productions, including Freddy in “My Fair Lady.” After his freshman year, he joined the Navy and served two tours in Vietnam. On leave before his last tour, he met and fell in head over heels in love with Elaine and they were married on October 17, 1970 in Phoenix, Arizona. Dean served 21 years in the Navy, he was a respected leader, and received numerous recognitions, including Sailor of the Year for the COMNAVMARS Pacific Fleet in 1985. His favorite duty station was HEH in Exmouth, Australia. His team still holds the record today for the unloading a supply ship in port in the fastest time. He was president of the community drama club, starring and directing many plays with Elaine. He was lead singer in a popular local band, Traces. In 1996 he and his high school gymnastics team were inducted into the HEB Sports Hall of Fame. Until his death, he operated his own business, specializing in glass estimation in commercial construction.
Dean was fiercely loyal, generous and forgiving. He believed life is an adventure to be lived, to dance, sing and take risks. He loved music, his Cowboys and his Astros, golf and scary movies. He was a master on the grill and loved the Food network, the shows would always inspire to create something new in the kitchen. Every weekend you would find Krispy Kreme donuts on the counter. Oh, how he loved a view, the beach and sunsets. Who else could coax a peach tree into prospering in the desert? He completed a back flip every birthday until he turned 50 and his back demanded he stop. He was moved to tears when his granddaughter played the piano and sang, he was so proud of his grandson and so excited to see the man he will become.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine (Griffith) his daughters Amy, her husband Todd; Stephanie, her husband Jim and his two grandchildren, Dylan and Kimmi, all from Las Vegas. Also, his brother David George, wife Brenda, from Texas and loving in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and younger brother. Obituary Preview: It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Laura Vaca Lanzkowsky on October 1st, 2021 at the age of 60. She passed away at home surrounded by her children following a years-long battle with cancer.
She was predeceased by her mother, Livia Cecilia Herrera de Alba and her father J. Jesus Vaca Villaseñor, who both passed earlier this year.
Born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, she was a Las Vegas resident for over 25 years and graduated from UNLV in 1999. She built her career as an accountant, having worked at her most recent place of employment for over 10 years.
She is remembered by those who knew her as a beautiful, dignified, loyal, fiercely loving mother, sister and friend. She was a spiritual woman with pride in her culture and left many photos showing her early passions, which included her love for beers on the beach, her pets, and spending time with her children and her family. She had her own dreams of one day pursuing her own business ventures after retirement.

This is where he met JoAnn Christey, and they were married in 1966. He went to graduate school at Carnegie Mellon University and then to work in Emeryville, California. There he met up with a group of hockey players who would eventually become the core players that made up the Reno Aces Semi-Pro Hockey Team. In Reno he worked on the Lear Motors steam car project, started the Air Filtration/Key Chemical Company, and began a long career in the mining industry. Over the years he participated in various athletic activities. He loved horses and competed in many 50 and 100-mile endurance rides, as well as numerous Ride & Tie races. He enjoyed running and completed several Reno Silver State marathons. He became a private pilot while working in mining, and even built and flew his own RV-6A two-seater airplane. Eventually, Kennedy’s Disease, a rare genetic muscular-degenerative disease, curtailed his physical activities, and he became a voracious reader and avid bridge player.
He was predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his wife, JoAnn, son, Steven (Minelli), daughter, Marsha (Ruben) Gomez Aldana, granddaughter Cheryl (Luis) Moreno, grandson Trevor (Samantha), and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Donald (Kathy), Diane (Robert) Mills, and Terry (Erin), and several nieces and nephews.

Jimmy grew up in Skokie IL in the 1960’s and 70’s. He loved making home movies. His brothers and friends thought he was going to become a movie director. Jim loved the outdoors, white water rafting, and camping became an annual event at Shot Gun Eddy’s on the Wolf river.
Jimmy lived in Las Vegas Nevada since 1994 and was in the automotive industry for 45 years where he has met the most magnificent people. He spent the past decade of his career at Gaudin Porsche where he learned to love cars as a much as he loved selling.
Jimmy will be remembered for his brilliant smile, humor, generosity, and his gift of gab. He had a unique way about him that made instant friends with everyone he met. He loved his family more than anything. Some of the greatest joys he had was teaching his son to drive and ski, going to the movie theatre, watching sports, fishing, golfing, and relaxing on his many beach vacations.
Jimmy passed peacefully with his family by his side on September 29,2021. He is preceded in death by his father Arthur and mother Susan. Those left to cherish Jimmy’s precious memories are his wife and son Brenda and Alex. His brothers Michael & Frank, their wives Kathy & Jacqui and his nephews and nieces Josh, Jake, and Julia. Alexa, Anthony, and Niki. His in-laws Bob Peterson, Gloria and Howard Dawes, Trudy Peterson, Robin and Joe Caputo, Bob and Adriana Peterson and his many nieces and nephews.
This Frank Sinatra quote reminds us of how Jim would want to be remembered “I would like to be remembered as a man who had a wonderful time living life, a man who had good friends, fine family - and I don’t think I could ask for anything more than that, actually”.

He was born on a beautiful day, May 19th, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated from Coronado High School in Henderson in May of 2015 and went on to attend the University of Nevada, Reno where he graduated in May of 2020. He went right to work for the family business as a Salesman for Construction Sealants & Supply and had become his Dad’s right hand man, learning all aspects of the business.
Devin was an avid sports fan and thrill seeker, but he especially liked football and could talk stats and players with anyone. He was also a lifelong Denver Bronco & New York Yankee fan as well. He loved driving his new razor and had taken several trips with the family centered around razor riding. Devin also loved to golf and spent many hours at Dragonridge with his dad and buddies in addition to golfing at beautiful courses around the country while traveling. Devin inherited a love of travel from his Mom. He also loved to attend sports events, hit the beach and surf the ocean waves, but he really loved his family and spending time with them. Nothing was more important to our Sweet Devin than his family and friends.
To know Devin was to love him. He was a big teddy bear with a heart of gold, always with a kind word for his loved ones and friends. One of the best parts about his personality was his witty sense of humor, the boy could make you laugh and will continue to do so for years to come. He was a bright spot in this world and he will be missed terribly. Our hearts are broken.
