Obituary Preview: Watervliet – Jerry J. Mastan Sr., passed away peacefully at home on November 8, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was the son of the late Henry and Florence Esposito Mastan and the loving husband of Suzanne H. Mastan with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Jerry proudly served his country.

Jerry was active in his community including being a past president of the Watervliet School Board, Republican City Chairman, member of the Veterans ITAM Post as well as several other civic organizations. Jerry was a parishioner of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Watervliet. In addition to his wife Suzanne, Jerry is survived by his children Jerry (Crystal) Mastan, Jr., Suzanne Mastantuono, Angela (David) Wareing and John Paul (Stacey) Mastan; his sister Phyllis (Donald) Granger; twelve grandchildren and two great granddaughters. In addition to his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his brother Frank and sister Joan.

Keegan whom she married on April 8th, 1961. Diane attended St. Brigid’s Elementary School and Watervliet High School, class of 1959. She was employed by N.Y. Telephone Company for 36 years. Diane was a member of the Watervliet Elks 1500, Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending summers at Twin Oaks Campground in Schoharie with her family and friends. Diane was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Watervliet.

Diane was the beloved mother of Michael (Tracey) Keegan of Troy and Jeffrey (Donna Friel) Keegan of Grafton. Also survived by loving grandchildren; Kyle, Julianne, Brittany, Andrew, and Sarah; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Diane is predeceased by her son Kevin Keegan and her siblings Joyce and Ted Shufelt and Emily Rivette.

Margaret was a parishioner of St. Brigid’s Church and was educated in Watervliet schools, graduating class of 1967.

Margaret was retired from the NYS DMV and was an active member of the Watervliet Senior Center and the Watervliet Ladies AOH. Following her retirement, Margaret assisted many seniors allowing them to remain in their homes. Always the caregiver, Margaret enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends and was always available to drive people to an appointment or to work. Margaret was honored to be the Grand Marshall of the 2004 St Patrick’s Day Parade in Albany, an honor well deserved Devoted mother of Robert (Terri) Welsh Sr., Bryan (Karen) Welsh and Heather (Eric) Welsh; loving sister of Warren (Bettina) Harris. Loving grandmother of eight grandchildren, Robert (Erin) Welsh Jr., Anthony (Ariel) Welsh, Devon Sedgwick, Kyle Sedgwick, Christopher Welsh, Sara Welsh, Emma Welsh, Courtney Quinn and Marisa Romero; seven great-grandchildren, Anthony Gratto, Katelyn Welsh, Robert Welsh III, Anthony Welsh Jr, Tyren Welsh, Stephen Sedgwick, William Sedgwick and Caleb Sedgwick. Aida was a loving mother of Alejandro Madera, Betsaida Madera, Sonia Madera, Santos Otero, Esperanza Otero, Sandra Otero, Guillermina Otero, Jesus Otero, and the late Eladio Otero. She will also be missed by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a loving, caring niece Theresa Madera.

Aida loved to take nature walks through the Albany streets and enjoyed doing puzzles, painting, and coloring.

Cremation ceremony services will be held at 5 p.m. this Thursday, August 19th at The Albany Rural Cemetery at 3 Cemetery Ave, Menands NY 12204, Section 132, tier 6, Grave #26.

Burial to follow on Friday August 20th at 9:30 AM.

Dan is also survived by his grandchildren, Jaxon Rider, Jace Rider and Daniel Franco; his in-laws, Richard (Herkie) Rider, Wendy and Archie DeCrescenzo, Kelly and David Barker and Michael Cook and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Dan proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a proud member of his beloved Watervliet Community, a member of the 1981 Watervliet High School Graduating Class and was always cheering for the various Watervliet sports teams. An avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Dan also enjoyed motorcycles and automobiles. Dan will be missed by his family and so many friends. In addition to his parents, Dan was predeceased by Diane Rider. Dan’s family would like to thank the staff at Samaritan Hospital ICU and the Watervliet Paramedics for their compassionate care. Dorothea (Behm) Bisceglia - June 02, 1934 - July 22, 2021

Obituary Preview: Dorothea (Behm) Bisceglia, 87 years young, passed away peacefully in her favorite place- on her back porch at home in Maine, surrounded by friends and family, flowers and birds.

Dorothea was born on June 2, 1934 in Troy, NY to Axel and Mary Behm. She grew up on Lord Avenue across from Duncan’s farm and spent her childhood riding her horses down hoosick street in addition to many other outdoor adventures.

She attended The Mary Warren School and Troy High School and went on to graduate with the very first nursing class from Albany Medical Center in 1958 where she worked as an OR nurse. She met Patrick Bisceglia working for the NYS Department of Health and they married in 1963 and built a home together in Brunswick. She became a ‘bonus’ mom to Leo and Vincent Bisceglia, Patrick’s two young sons, and they went on to grow their family with three more children, Kim, Bryan and Lisa. Dorothea continued her career in nursing, but as a private duty nurse only so she could be at home with her family.

She was a devout christian with a strong faith in God and the belief that kindness, acceptance and generosity should be extended to all humans and creatures, great and small. Her congregation at Trinity Episcopal Church in Watervliet became a second family to her for 25 years. She was a fierce advocate for the underserved and spent countless hours volunteering her time to help those in need. For most of her adult life, Dorothea played the piano for her church services and events but also loved to participate in any opportunity to play elsewhere. This led to her second career as a self taught music teacher at Our Lady of Victory School in Troy. She brightened the lives of many students of all ages, including her five grandchildren, with countless shows, pageants and productions.

She was a huge lover of the outdoors and gardening and was passionate about caring for the environment and all its wonders and creatures. She was an avid swimmer and lover of the ocean. She spent many summers camping in Maine with family in tow. It was her love of Maine that ultimately led to a successful kidnapping by her family from her nursing home during Covid lockdown to Portland Maine where she spent her final year by the sea among her Maine friends. She was an incredible cook, (Italian by association) and was a master at feeding the masses out of her small and simple kitchen with countless cookies and her infamous meatballs.

Dorothea is predeceased by her husband, Patrick Bisceglia, her two step sons Vincent Bisceglia (Karen) and Leo Bisceglia (Kathy) and her brother Robert Behm. She is survived by her three children, Kim Cowieson (Michael), Bryan Bisceglia (Michelle) and Lisa Bisceglia: her grandchildren Patrick Bisceglia (Colleen), Kristin Smith (Mark), Nick Bisceglia (Chrissy Zola), Meghan Bisceglia (Chad Corbett), Mandy Bisceglia, Sophia Bisceglia, Isabella Bisceglia, and Abbey Cowieson. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Molly and Madeline Bisceglia and Grady and Callen Smith.

The family will be forever grateful to Dorothea’s exceptional caregivers- Michelle Dutcher, Deb Grace, Lorraine Betit and Jolene Schatz, and everyone at Hospice of Southern Maine for their incredible support and care for Dorothea which allowed her to be at home with family in Maine for her final year.

Obituary Preview: Lucy Regina Cesa, surrounded by family, died peacefully on Friday May 7, 2021. She was born in the “Little Italy” section of the Bronx, NY on June 5, 1923 to Luigi and Paolina Cesa. She is survived by her son Alfred Guerra, her nieces Elenore Cora Ross and Emmarose Guerra.

In the last years of her life she was cared for at home by her son, loving daughter-in-law Mary Alice Swatt and Mary’s sister Katherine Swatt. Mary and Kathy were instrumental in providing Lucy with both personal and professional care, as well as, spending many hours doing jig saw puzzles, playing cards and watching Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies which Lucy loved.

Lucy was fluent in English and Italian and during the wartime period of the 1940’s she was hired by the US government as a translator to review letters, correspondence and documents that were sent from Italy by soldiers and others to insure that no sensitive information was being transmitted.

Lucy met John Guerra while socializing at the local Italian club on Fordham Road. Lucy married John and had two sons, Alfred in 1947 and Richard in 1949. The family moved to the New Jersey Shore town of Long Branch in 1951 where John worked as a tile contractor. After the children began attending school Lucy worked as an administrative assistant in a bank and then as one in the school system in order to insure that both sons could have a college education. Both sons attended Catholic University of America in Washington DC and graduated.

Lucy’s mother Paolina was a meticulous seamstress employed by the fashion designer Oleg Cassini who created dresses for Jackie Kennedy. Lucy was fond of recalling how her mother would take one of Jackie’s dress patterns and sew my mother a duplicate. My mother reveled in recalling how she would be wearing a Jackie Kennedy dress before Jackie did.

Lucy and John subsequently moved to Southern Florida after her sons graduated from college in the early 70’s. There they worked for a few years, John in tile work and Lucy in an ophthalmologist’s office. Lucy also volunteered to help and mentor mentally challenged children as well as contributing to many, many charities. They retired a few years later and traveled and cruised as much as possible. John died in 1986 and Lucy was remarried a few years later to Paul MacAnaney, a retired auto parts retailer and a kind and caring man. They had many good years together in the West Palm Beach area. Paul died in 2001 and Lucy began to divide her time living in Florida and visiting Alfred in Albany NY.

After Paul’s death Lucy chose to return to her maiden name of Cesa. As she grew older, she began to develop signs of dementia and agreed to move to the Albany-Saratoga area where she could be looked after by her son and daughter-in-law. Subsequent for having to be in a nursing home for recuperation and therapy due to a fall, she was moved to her son’s home in November of 2019 to be cared for.

She was a good and caring person and everyone who met and knew her loved her personality, smile and charm. We will miss her dearly, but believe that she is with her loved ones in heaven.

Troy - Margaret P. Farrell passed away at the V.A. Hospital in Albany on April 26, 2021 after a very courageous battle. Patty was the daughter of the late Robert and Catherine Herald Farrell Sr. and was a Watervliet High School graduate, Class of 1980.

Following her graduation Patty began her employment with NYS, working in Albany. After deciding to serve her country in the US Army. Patty completed her basic training in Ft Dix, NJ and was stationed in Ft. Gordon where she completed her training in tele communications. Later, Patty was stationed in Germany. Following her Honorable Discharge from the Army, Patty returned home and resumed her career with New York State.

Patty was overjoyed to become a mother, welcoming her daughter Fiona into her life. While continuing to work and raise her daughter, Patty earned a degree in economics. Patty spent many happy years raising her daughter, sharing trips to the zoo, visiting the ocean and countless other adventures. Fiona made Patty so proud. Following her retirement, after 37 year of service, Patty traveled and spent time at the ocean.

Obituary Preview: EAST GREENBUSH- Jane Ann Ward ,92, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home with her loving family at her side on Saturday morning, January 16, 2021 following a lengthy illness. Born in Albany on September 6, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Louis G. and Lillian Cramer Heintz. Raised and educated there, she was a graduate of Albany High School and the Mildred Elley Secretarial School. Following her education, she started a family and as time went on she embarked on a career with Prudential Insurance Company rising through the ranks there and retired after forty plus years as a Field Service Office Supervisor.

Jane was a devout person of faith and a long time member of The First Church in Albany and enjoyed the fellowship of the congregation and volunteered at the Food Pantry, serving the community. She was active with a bible study group at the church and enjoyed the love and friendship of her bible study colleagues, Cindy, Denise, Gert, Karen, and Joyce. They brought much joy and helped her through her illness.

Survivors include her devoted son, Mark S. (Susan) Fiet, daughter –in-law, Candy (late Jeffrey W ) Fiet, cherished grandsons, Jason (Denise), Matthew(Marcy) , Evan (Christine), Justin (Jamie), Jeffrey, and Kyle, treasured great grandchildren Jake and Julia, Emma Kate and Teagan, and Mason and Cooper.

In addition to her parents and son Jeffrey W. Fiet, Jane was predeceased by her husband, Thomas J. Ward, NYSP (Ret.), and aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to her church family of The First Church in Albany and Rev. Dr. Mashona Walston , Senior Minister for the compassion and concern shown to Jane and also to the Community Hospice for their outstanding care , support and guidance during her final days. Also special thanks to her dedicated care givers Susan and Denise Fiet, her “niece”, Liz Chisholm Coyne, who visited and reminisced with “Aunt Janie”, and her special friend and neighbor, Denice Freschette , for providing food and company during her illness.

Cisco was born in Albany, NY to Gloria E. McKenzie and the late Wittie (Willie) D. Jones on January 27th, 1970. After high school, Cisco joined the U.S Army (2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment) in Germany from 1988 until 1990. After serving and coming back to New York, Cisco met his forever love Lorraine in 2001 and married on December 12th, 2012 making 19 beautiful years together in August. He went on to

earn an Associates Degree in Culinary from Schenectady County Community College. He worked as a Chef for multiple restaurants over the years. He enjoyed listening to music, playing cards, playing pool, shooting darts, watching Yankee games, playing with his dogs, his 2 lovely daughters and going to state fairs with his family. He joined the Bowling League associated with Del Lanes in 2005-2015 and was involved in

several events at the local Elks Club and the VA Hospital throughout many years. Cisco was a devoted husband and loving father of 2 beautiful young girls Caitlyn age 18, and Jaidyn age 12. Cisco had the amazing opportunity to watch his daughter Caitlyn go off to college in August. We also cannot forget his other children (puppies) Bailey, Sheba and Max. Cisco was known for his silly and fun personality, he always

knew how to bring life into a room. He will be dearly missed.

Cisco is survived by his 2 daughters Caitlyn and Jaidyn Alecia, mother Gloria E. McKenzie, 2 sisters Deanna (Stephen) Jones and Kimberly (Eric) Speight, 2 nieces Shiaria McCall and Markeisha Jones, 2 great nieces E’Layah and Emarie Jones, 3 nephews Marvais Jones, Tra’Vontay and Da’Vontay Speight, 2 great nephews Elias
