Dolores E Favorite - April 14, 1929 - January 31, 2023

Departed: 01/31/2023 (Wheeling)
Obituary Preview: It is with full hearts that we acknowledge the passing of our mother, Dolores Favorite (nee Falvey), 93 years young on January 31, 2023.
Born in Chicago, Dolores was the eighth child of Irish immigrants, Thomas Falvey and Catherine O’Leary. She spoke fondly of her childhood growing up with nine siblings in the Woodlawn neighborhood, attending Holy Cross Grammar School and St. Thomas the Apostle High School.
Dolores met Thomas Favorite at a parish dance, and they went ice skating on the Midway in Hyde Park for their first date. Married in 1951, they raised nine children in South Holland and were long-time members of St. Jude the Apostle parish. A sharp “grammar cop” with a hotline to the Pope, Dolores had a quick wit, and she passed on her encyclopedic memory of lyrics and love of Broadway tunes and 40s standards to her children. A devoted Chicago sports fan, she attended every championship parade for the Bulls, Black Hawks, and White Sox. After waiting over eighty years, she delighted in the 2016 Cubs World Series Victory and celebrated on Columbus Drive with her family. She loved crossword puzzles, reading novels, playing tennis, and volunteering for Meals on Wheels. Her primary joy came from celebrating with her family and friends at milestone events. Dolores counseled and guided generations of family and friends with her intelligence and outsized empathy. She always treasured her Dolton friends, the “Do Nothings,” a loyal group of women who gathered for fellowship and support. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Favorite and her son Edward J. Favorite, as well as her parents Thomas and Bridget and her siblings, Kathleen, Robert, Mary, Eileen, Michael, Dorothy, Theresa,
and Thomas Falvey, as well as many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law, and treasured nieces and nephews.
She will be dearly missed and her children Rita Blickenstaff, Therese Heneghan (Matthew), Martha Lloyd (Dan), Mary Beth Cooke (Mike), Thomas S. Jr., Laura McGivern (Mark), Eileen (Martin Perdoux), and Philip, as well as her devoted daughter-in-law, Janey Mohr. Her twenty grandchildren, David (Alexa) Blickenstaff, Paul Blickenstaff, and Katie Morano-Blickenstaff (Scott Morano); Matthew, Martha (Brian Matthews), Michael, and Tommy Heneghan; Christina Margolis (Matt) and Julianne Lloyd; Cameron, Alexander, Nicholas, and Elizabeth Cooke; Kelsey and Hilary McGivern; Lucille and Alice Favorite-Perdoux; and Robert, Dylan, and Paula Favorite. Her nine great-grandchildren include Eisley and Kellen Blickenstaff, Jack and Brooke Matthews, Hailey and Henry Heneghan, Luke and Madelyn Margolis, and Ethan Lloyd.
She was a shining light to her many beloved nieces and nephews and to her dear sister Betty (the late Richard) Geimer.
A wake will be held at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Avenue, Wheeling from 3:00-8:00 PM on Friday, February 3. Prayer service on Saturday February 4 at 9:15 am at the funeral home to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am on at St. Norbert Church, 1809 Walters Ave, Northbrook. Internment: 12:30 Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th Street, Alsip, followed by a reception.
Charitable donations in Dolores’s name can be made to Catholic Charities (https://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org/), Meals on Wheels (https://www.mealsonwheelsamerica.org/), or Shore Community Services at shoreservices.org.

Joan-Marie Stanton - July 09, 1932 - December 27, 2022

Departed: 12/27/2022 (Wheeling)
Obituary Preview: Joan-Marie (Ward) Stanton July 9th, 1932- December 27, 2022 (90 years old) We lost a good one. Joan was originally from Secaucus, NJ and despite living in IL for 50+ years never lost her Jersey accent, which her children obnoxiously imitated every chance they got. She fiercely loved her five children, and they grew up knowing there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them even when they were “pains in the ass.” She was a force — an exceptional nurse with a big heart who welcomed anyone into her loud family with unconditional love. Joan was an avid knitter who made the best pecan pie. She had a great sense of humor, never complained, and always said she was good when clearly her Parkinson’s was winning. There was nothing she loved more than sitting around the kitchen table eating a good meal she'd cooked with her family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph James Stanton, who is calling her, “My Joanie Baby” right now. She will be dearly missed by her family including her children, Maureen Stanton-Leveque (Joseph), James Stanton (Nicole), Ann-Marie Stanton, Kathleen Stanton, and Colleen Stanton Kakavetsis (Bill), and her grandkids, Ethan Kakavetsis, Neilan Leveque, Juliana Stanton, Tessa Leveque and Eve Kakavetsis.
She did it right.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who need it. They help to notify people of the passing, provide details about the funeral or memorial services, and offer a sense of closure for those who are grieving.

What information is typically included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, cause of death (optional), occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial services, including the date, time, location, and any special instructions.

Who writes an obituary?

Obituaries can be written by family members, friends, or funeral home staff. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance. The writer should aim to capture the personality and spirit of the deceased in a respectful and accurate manner.

How long does it take to write an obituary?

The time it takes to write an obituary can vary depending on the complexity of the information and the writer's familiarity with the deceased. On average, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours to write a well-crafted obituary.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?
