Obituary Preview: Donald Frederick Weibel, born on June 3, 1935 in Cleveland, OH, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2024.

Don lived most of his life in Erie, PA, growing up in the Frontier area, playing with the kids at the Saint Joseph Orphanage. He attended Saint Andrew School, and Cathedral Prep, class of 1955. Thereafter, he attended Gannon University. He worked in the grocery business for years, and then worked for the Erie Times in the circulation Dept. for many more years. After retirement from the Times, he worked again in the grocery business for another 17 years, at Giant Eagle.

He took Linda as his wife, and moved to West 29th Street, where he lived nearly until his death. There, he raised his family. Two children, Timothy (Barb) Weibel and Julianne Weibel Foltz, have enduring love for Don, and will miss him greatly. He had four grandchildren, Karen (Cutter) Niemic, Gregory (Joleen) Foltz, Hayden (Kelsey McGarvey) Foltz, and Joseph (Haley Cress) Weibel. All four remember well the great times spent with their Papa. Three grandchildren have met their great-grandfather. Grayson and Jacob Foltz, and Freya Niemic

He is also survived by dear friend Sally Urban, as well as her family. His ex-wife Linda Weibel, sister Joyce McCarthy, and sister in law Peggy Weibel, as well as many nieces and nephews, also mourn his passing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph F. Weibel, and C. Rose Patke Weibel. Also, by his older brother, Richard Weibel.

Don was a friendly, relaxed soul, who always loved to socialize. He always greeted you with a smile, and things were always great. Nothing could get him down. He loved to golf and play bocce, as well as participate in the Brotherhood of the Knights of Columbus at Sacred Heart Church. In fact, a prized possession was his Knight of the Year award in 2019. He volunteered his time and effort at the Brig Niagara, and the Presque Isle Lighthouse. He was also known to enjoy an occasional Southern Comfort cocktail. Obituary Preview: Dolores T. Hammer, 96, of Erie passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Manchester Commons surrounded by family. She was born in Ridgeway, PA on November 13, 1927, a daughter of the late, Edward and Catherine (Stangel) McMahon.

She graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1945 and attended St. Vincent School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse. She was the nurse for Dr. John Chaffee for many years and the industrial nurse for Erie Techno and Reed Manufacturing. She worked into her 70’s as a nurse for the Mercy Center on Aging until she retired. Dolores was proud of her career in nursing and enjoyed helping others. She also volunteered at the Erie City Mission for many years. Her greatest pride was becoming a mother and caring for her family.

In addition to her parents, Dolores is preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Hammer, sister, Cordelia Lawn, brothers, George and Richard McMahon.

She was survived by her children, Jane Penna, Nancy Nevel (Keith), David Hammer (Mary) and Kevin Hammer (Lisa), grandchildren, Jacob Hammer (Allison), Isaac Hammer, Megan Wylly (James), Koltin Hammer, Jamie Nevel (Kayla), Sarah Jones, and Julia Nevel, one great-grandson, Noah Wylly.

Friends and family are invited to visiting on Wednesday, May 8th from 10am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11am at St. George Church. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Agnes Helene Zore - April 19, 1924 - April 17, 2024

Obituary Preview: Sister Mary Agnes Zore, RSM, died on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, two days shy of her 100th birthday, at the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse. She was in the 79th year of her religious life.

Born on April 19, 1924, in St. Marys, PA, she was the daughter of the late Albin and Mary (Schager) Zore.

She entered the Sisters of Mercy at St. Joseph Convent in Titusville, PA, on September 2, 1945, from St. Mary’s Parish. She professed her perpetual vows on June 23, 1951.

Sr. Mary Agnes completed her B.S. in elementary education at Mercyhurst College (University) in 1959, and served for 40 years as a primary teacher in Erie Catholic Diocesan schools in Titusville, Punxsutawney, Franklin, Greenville, Corry, and DuBois, and in the Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese at St. Justin School. After retiring from teaching, she continued her serviceby taking parish censuses, visiting shut-ins, assisting in pastoral ministry, and driving for the Sisters’ community.

In addition to her religious community, Sr. Mary Agnes is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Frank Zore and sister Mary Zore.

Friends may call at the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse, 444 East Grandview Blvd. on Sunday, April 21, from 2:00-4:00 p.m.and from 7:00-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service held at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the motherhouse in the Sisters of Mercy chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 22.Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral. The Rite of Committal will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Tommy attended St. Joseph School in Dunkirk, New York and was the first student in the adult workshop at the Dr. Gertrude Barber Center. He continued to be a resident of the Barber Center for the rest of his life, enjoying many activities and making many friends. Tommy enjoyed his family and going to camp in the summer. Among his favorite things were cartoons, coloring, going shopping, and going out to eat. He was a joy to be around and is going to be missed by

everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.

Tommy was preceded in death by his father and mother, sisters Jane and Ann, and his brother Richard. Taylor served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. In 1969, he married the love of his life, Victoria (Weitzel) Byerly. He retired from GE in 2007 after working there for 39 years as a Locomotive Inspector. In his younger days, Taylor played on the fast-pitched softball team called the Aerospace Aces. He enjoyed shooting pool, cheering on the Cleveland Browns, listening and singing old time songs, and drawing all types of things. He also liked working on cars and was a great handyman. Most importantly, Taylor was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He would do anything for his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Taylor is in preceded in death by his wife, Victoria (Weitzel) Byerly, daughter, Elizabeth Ann Byerly, son, Taylor “Tab” Byerly, siblings, Shirley, Evelyn, Sue, Ralph “Butch”, and Jim Byerly.

Mike graduated in 1967 from Tech Memorial High School. He joined the U.S. Marines in 1968 and served as a combat vet in the Vietnam War. He owned and operated Mike’s Automotive. Mike also transported cars for Gary Miller. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club and the Glenwood YMCA. Mike enjoyed bike riding and walking around the Penninsula. He loved being a part of the Blues and Jazz Fest every year. He was also an avid Scrabble player. Mike was a quiet, genuine, and gentle soul with a quick wit. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Whalen, and nephews, Patrick Whalen and Francis Whalen Connelly.

He is survived by his siblings, Sr. Patricia Whalen, RSM, Terrance Whalen (Cindy), Mary Whitney (Robert), Jane Connelly (Daniel), Ennis Whalen (Sandy), and Bridget Whalen. Many nieces, nephews, and close friends also survive.

Bruce served in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1957. He then worked at multiple grocery stores and retired from Giant Eagle. Bruce was an avid gardener, and enjoyed reading, walking, and visiting with all his neighbors along the way.

In addition to his parents, Bruce is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Patricia (Litzinger) Stoltz, his son, Brian Stoltz, and his siblings, Dick Stoltz and his wife Norma, Dale Stoltz, and Maxine Stoltz.

He is survived by his children, Patrice Stoltz, Gary Stoltz (Debby), Yvonne Kennedy (Kevin), Maureen Sidelinger (Michael), and Michelle Stoltz, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and his siblings, John Stoltz (Sue) and Sandra Falger, and sister-in-law, Pat Stoltz. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends are invited to Holy Cross Catholic Church 7100 W. Ridge Rd. Fairview, PA 16415 on Thursday, April 11th from 9am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10am. Shirley was a longtime piano teacher to many children and adults in the community. Her ministry through music was shared at many different church services, weddings, and funerals. Shirley was a Discalced Carmelite Laity and handcrafted thousands of rosaries that she donated to people all over the world. She was a founding member of the SunShine Group and was President for 40 years, the group crafted and donated items to nursing homes all over Erie County. In addition to nursing homes, she donated items to Veterans organizations and other charities. Shirley developed and taught a course called Reconstruction for the Pennsylvania Prison Society. She was also awarded a Master of Biblical Counseling from Andersonville Theological Seminary. Shirley volunteered at National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) among other organizations. She was the recipient of numerous local and national awards for her charitable giving. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, and sewing.

In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Joseph F. Phillips and her son-in-law, Mark W. Andrae.

She is survived by her children, Edward Pfadt, Jr., Dr. Joe Pfadt, PhD (Sue), and Kathleen Andrae (James Terry, Jr.), grandchildren, Alexandra (Matthew), Victoria, John, and Elijah, one great-grandchild, and a sister-in-law, Karen Phillips and her children. Adolorata Delores DiLuzio - June 07, 1925 - March 30, 2024

Obituary Preview: Sister Jean Baptiste DiLuzio, SSJ, age 98, of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania, died on March 30, 2024. She was in the 81st year of her religious life.

Sister Jean was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, on June 7, 1925, the daughter of the late Antonio and Ermelinda DeDionisio DiLuzio. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph from Holy Rosary Parish in Erie, PA, on February 2, 1944, and professed her final vows on August 15, 1949. She recently celebrated 80 years of religious life. Sr. Jean said her call to religious life was nurtured by the simple faith of her immigrant parents and the example and encouragement of the Sisters of St. Joseph who taught her.

Sister Jean Baptiste graduated from Villa Maria Academy in 1942 and continued her education at Villa Maria College, Erie, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. She furthered her education at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, where she earned a Master of Arts in Spanish literature. She attended many workshops and seminars at Dayton University, Dayton, OH; Universidad de Valladolid, Spain; and Catholic University, Washington, D.C.

Sister Jean spent many years in the ministry of education and was well-known and loved by numerous graduates of Cathedral Preparatory School, where she taught for 25 years (1951-76). A testament to their fondness for her, many former students kept in touch with Sr. Jean throughout her life. She was a 1994 inductee into the Cathedral Preparatory School Hall of Fame. Her education career also included teaching at Blessed Sacrament School, Erie; St. Agatha High School, Meadville; and St. Leo High School, Ridgway, and serving in administration at Villa Maria College, Erie. She served the Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania as executive secretary-treasurer, treasurer, and councilor and was a member of the formation team and board of directors. Sister Jean served as an auditor in the Diocese of Erie Office of the Tribunal for 30 years. A highlight of her ministry service was being awarded the Papal Cross "Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice" by Pope John Paul II in 1996.

Sister Jean served the Erie community on various boards, including Villa Maria College, Saint Mary's Home of Erie, Cathedral Preparatory School, Harborcreek Youth Services, and Catholic Social Services. She also served on the Erie Diocese cemetery and priests' retirement boards. She volunteered for Harborcreek Youth Services, Cathedral Preparatory School, and the Spanish Apostolate in Erie.

Following her retirement from the Diocesan Tribunal office in 2016, she was an assistant in the SSJ Development Office until 2023. Her relationships with former students and so many others in the Erie community ideally suited her for this position, which included correspondence with friends and benefactors of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Patrick, Carl, Albert, and Daniel. She is survived by one brother, Anthony, and several nieces and nephews. Her religious community, the Sisters of St. Joseph, also survives her.

Friends may call at the Sisters of St. Joseph Community Living Center, 5031 West Ridge Road, Erie, on Thursday, April 4, 2024, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with prayer and sharing of memories. Calling hours will continue until 4:00 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. The mass will be livestreamed on the Sisters of St. Joseph YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/SSJErie/live. The interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Dennis M. Karle - February 29, 1952 - March 28, 2024

Obituary Preview: Dennis M. “Mike” Karle, 72, technically 18 years old, of Erie, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024. He was born in Erie on February 29, 1952, a son of the late, Richard “Dick” Sr. and Jennie “Peg” (Law) Karle.

After graduating from High School, Dennis served in the U.S. Air Force. From 1971-1974 he was an Air Force Sargent in the Presidential National Honor Guard during the Nixon Presidency. He then joined the City of Erie Police Department. Later becoming a Juvenile Detective and a School District Police Officer. Dennis enjoyed being a Civil War reenactor, he was an extra in Gods and Generals and an All An Act cast member. He was a member of the Irish Cultural Society, Siebenbuerger, Sunflower, and Moniuszko Club. Dennis was an avid fan of the Steelers, Redwings, and Penn State Nittany Lions. He also held a dual citizenship in Ireland and the U.S. He was always a giving person, especially towards his family. He will be missed.

In addition to his parents, Dennis is preceded in death by his brother, Richard J. Karle, Jr. and his wife Shelly, as well as many aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his sister, Kathleen “Kathy” A. Brooks, nephew, Jeremy R. Brooks, and a good friend, Anthony “Tony” Maggio.

John Frederick Bleil - March 21, 1939 - March 25, 2024

Obituary Preview: John “Jack” Frederick Bleil, Sr., age 85, of Mentor, OH., passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024. He was born in Erie, PA., on March 21, 1939, a son of the late Frederick and Rose (Olsafsky) Bleil.

In his youth, he enjoyed spending summers at his grandparents’ farm in Edinboro, PA., working and selling corn door to door. He graduated McDowell High School in 1957. He was a member of the Air National Guard and of his favorite car club, Gearers Inc. of Erie, PA. He was the photographer at the P.I.T.A. Drag strip in Wattsburg, PA. Some of his photos, along with articles he wrote, were published in various racing magazines and books.

He worked for Sanida Dairy in Erie with his dad and uncle. From there he worked for Firch/Strohman Baking Co. as a delivery driver then supervisor until the age of 55. After that he decided to travel to various states selling racing photos, restoration decals and stickers, and models. He continued until 2020. He enjoyed spending time with his large family telling lots of stories from the past. He also loved spending hours in his garden and just being outside. He was a talented artist, painting many beautiful landscapes, various vehicles and signs.

John was preceded in death by his father Fredrick A. Bleil, mother, Rose (Olsafsky) Bleil of Erie, PA., and his grand-daughter-in-law, Jenna (Johnson) Bleil of Ashtabula, OH.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Sabota) Bleil, brothers, Jim Bleil, wife Nancy of Rutledge, GA., David Bleil, wife Sue of Landisville, PA., Sister, Gloria (Bleil) Gaudreau, husband Jimmy of South Riding VA. His children, Jeanette (Bleil) Lacy and husband Kermit, and Jeff Bleil and wife Mischelle of Ashtabula, OH., John Bleil and fiancé Bonnie of Longmont, CO., Jane (Bleil) Housel and husband David of Honea Path, SC., and Jackie (Bleil) Waldron and husband Glenn. Obituary Preview: Alice Mae Sturdivant (Kerner) – 79 of Erie, PA, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on March 24, 2024.

She was born at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Erie, PA on December 09, 1944.

Alice grew up on 26th Street and Chestnut. She had her sights set on going to college after graduating from Villa Maria Academy in 1963 and building a family. She fulfilled both goals, graduating from Our Lady of Victory with a degree in Nursing in 1964 and then welcomed three sons and four daughters (not in that order).

While the dementia slowly robbed her of her hobbies, she enjoyed a variety during her life. She loved camping, fishing, gardening, spending time with her family and friends and baking especially around Christmas time. She loved her animals, which brought her much comfort and joy.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Gertrude (Krill) Kerner; her brother, David Kerner; her sister, Karen Mazanowski (Kerner); her oldest son, Robert M. Sturdivant and her granddaughter, Faith Sturdivant. She is survived by her children, Tara Sturdivant - Crockett (Frank) of Erie, PA, Jack Sturdivant (Carla) of Roxboro, NC, Hope Flick (Jamie) of Erie, PA, Corinne Sturdivant – Simanowski of Hillsborough, NC, Nick Sturdivant of Erie, PA and Jill Sturdivant (Joe) of Erie, PA; her grandchildren Robbie Sturdivant, David Sturdivant, Hanna Sturdivant, Kylie Mae Simanowski, Grace Sturdivant, Haley Sturdivant, Nicholas Sturdivant (Junior), and Michael Sturdivant; her brother John Kerner (Betty); many nieces and nephews; cousins and her beloved dogs, Hachi and Blue.

We wish to thank Pam Duda, Stacey McPherson, Kat Hughes, Kathleen Dougherty and the Hospice Team at UPMC Home Health Care; Dr. Carey Peterson (PCP) and Staff of Healthy Families; Dr. Danielle Hansen (Geriatrician) and Staff of Lecom.

Obituary Preview: Ann Hatheway, 78, of Erie, passed away recently at her Buffalo Road home. Ann was born in Erie on July 7th, 1945, the daughter of the late John F. (Jack) Hatheway, and Lucille E. (Wagner) Hatheway. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: John (Jack), Donald, and Stephen Hatheway.

She is survived by her brother Richard (Dick) Hatheway and wife Carol of Wylie, TX; sisters-in-law Jeanne, of Chautauqua, NY; Frances, of Erie; and Roseanne, of Buda, TX. Additionally, Ann is survived by a cousin, Donald Wagner of Erie, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other cousins.

Ann was a 1963 graduate of Villa Maria High School. Although she spent most of her working life in Erie, she worked for several years after high school at the Father Baker Home for unwed mothers and women in crisis, in Tonawanda, NY. Ann also enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors. In recent years she spent most of her time caring for her beloved dogs and enjoyed participating in St. James Catholic Church’s community activities.

Funeral services and mass will be held at St. James Church, located on 2635 Buffalo Road, Erie, PA 16510 and the details will be announced shortly. Her family wishes to use the occasion of her service as a celebration of life for all those who knew and will miss Ann. James was a graduate of Holy Rosary School and went on to graduate from Cathedral Prep before joining the United States 7th Army stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany. James worked for many years at Bucyrus-Erie and later retired from American Meter. James was also a lifelong fan of Cleveland sports teams.

He is preceded in death by his wife of forty-two years Joan (Holland) Mink and brother Donald Mink.

He is survived by his brother Albert Jr. (Sally). James is also survived by his five children James (Lori) of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Matthew (Rhonda) of Erie, Pennsylvania; Susan (Joseph) Chipriano of Conestoga, Pennsylvania; Mary (David) Nagel of Culpeper, Virginia; and Amy Mink of Culpeper, Virgina. James had five grandchildren Amanda (Brett) Williams, Emily Nagel, James Nagel, Olivia Chipriano, Katie Chipriano and one great granddaughter Aria Williams.

In her youth, she played tennis and other sports. Kathy loved her cats and enjoyed making puzzles. Kathy was a strong woman, she fought cancer for several years with courage and determination. She will be greatly missed by her family.

Kathy is survived by her brothers, Christopher, Michael, and Joseph Totleben, sister, Michele Thompson, nieces, Ashley Songer Farina and Rebecca Zhou, aunt, Joanne Totleben, and sister-in-law, Julie Liu.

Obituary Preview: Richard J. “Dick” Birk, 85, of Erie, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, at St Vincent Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born in Erie on July 17, 1938, a son of the late, Joseph and Sophia (Schaaf) Birk.

After graduating from Tech Memorial in 1955, he served in the US Air Force as a Nuclear Weapons Mechanical Specialist and was awarded the US Air Force Longevity Service Award. Dick was a Senior Designer at Eriez Magnetics and retired in 2000 after working 35 years at Eriez.

In his spare time, he enjoyed coaching swimming at Sacred Heart School and volunteering at the Erie City Mission. He cherished the time spent with family and his grandchildren’s sporting events. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and yard work where he was awarded “best of the neighborhood” for his yard on West 6th and Connecticut. A family favorite pastime was the annual Easter Egg hunt in that manicured backyard. He also enjoyed playing Euchre with his friends, Jeri, MaryEllen and Bill at Mercy Terrace Apartments.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother in laws, John G Hatheway, Clarence and Thomas Colvin, and Ronald Healey.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathleen “Toby” (Colvin) Birk, five daughters, Julianne Gresh (Tom), Jeanne Burns (Andy), Kathleen Leone, Michelle Nunn, and JoAnn Brown, ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, sister, Kathleen Healey, and brother, William Birk (Gloria). Many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was a System Analyst at the Office of Children and Youth from 1982-2011. She retired with 29 years in Planning and Information Services. Gail had an immense love for God, she lived out and shared her faith every day with others. She was an associate of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. Gail was also a member of St. Patrick’s Church, where she enjoyed being a Eucharistic Minister and a member of Knights and Ladies of St. Patrick’s. You could always find her helping on a committee, decorating and organizing events, and working on projects for the church. She enjoyed crafting, driving around Presque Isle, and of course catching a treat at Sara’s. Above all, she had a profound love of family and friends, she loved spending time with nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, all of whom she would call her grandkids.

She is survived by a sister, Elaine Rohrbach (Chip) and 3 brothers, Eric Smith (Sheila), Gary Smith and Christopher Smith (Trish) all of Erie, ten nieces and nephews, Jeff Smith (Annie), Kari Molle (Blaine), Justin Swanson (Beth), Jacob Swanson (Liv), Theresa Isbell (Nick), Haley Rohrbach, Stephanie Oros (Steve), Shonda Laughlin (Patrick) and Joshua and Heather Smith. Known to friends and family as a very intelligent man with a kind heart, he will be remembered for his generosity and love for others.

John was a Marine veteran and a special thanks to the medical team at the Washington VA Medical Center who took John and his family into their care for his final steps on earth.

Predeceased by his sons, John and Jim, and brother, Patrick Chris Hynes, John is survived by son, Tom Hynes, his sister, Mary Hynes Hintenach, grandchildren, Thomas II, Tiffany, Amanda and John Hynes, great grandchildren, Emberly, Elizabeth, Zion and Cabel Hynes, along with many other loving family and friends.

She worked at Saint Vincent Hospital for over 30 years and loved her ministry there. She was also involved in many committees over the years, from being the youngest PTA President at Wayne School to being a part of Hospice Spiritual Care Team and numerous SSJ Community Committees.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Gerald E. Brown and sister, Kathy M. (Brown) Niebauer.

Cindy is survived by her nephews, Christopher Niebauer (Jamie) and Thomas Niebauer (Michelle), niece, Keri (Niebauer) Mayes (Darrin), great nephews, Derek, Shane, David, and Nick Niebauer and Tyler Mayes, and great niece, Tori Mayes. She is also survived by a very close aunt, Lois Forness and many close friends including Sister Moira Sullivan and her family, Colette Tomlinson from England that have been friends and pen pals since they were 16 years old, Sister Rosemary O’Brien, Deni Howley, Nancy Benacci, and the Saturday Night Group of friends, the Sisters of Saint Joseph Community, their Agregees and Associates, and all of her friends that she worked with over the many years at Saint Vincent Hospital.

Friends are invited to visiting on Tuesday, February 27th at St. Patrick Church from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. She married the love of her life, David Hershey, on June 4, 1960. They spent over 60 years creating a wonderful life together and sharing their home with many animals. Sally enjoyed reading all types of books, watching documentaries, and ceramics.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, David Hershey, and brother, Allan Miller.

She is survived by many family and friends, her brother, Larry Miller, sister-in-law, Gloria Miller, her niece, Carol Gorniak and Sally’s dog, Lady Blue.

Cornelis Johannes Wilhelmus Feenstra - April 17, 1923 - February 18, 2024

Obituary Preview: Cornelis Johannes Feenstra, 100. Passed away on February 18th, 2024. He was born on April 17th, 1923, in Rotterdam, South Netherlands, the son of the late, Jan and Margaretha Feenstra.

Cor was a graduate of the Hillevilet School in 1939 and the Avendvaktekening School in 1941. In his earlier years, he worked for Riet Schotens Houwens in Rotterdam as an Electrician. He also served in the Dutch Underground Resistance in various capacities to support the Allies. During this time, he was arrested as a political prisoner and survived a year of hard labor in different German concentration camps. He was liberated by the 82nd Airborne from Camp Wobbelin. After WWII, he worked for Shell Oil in Rotterdam until immigrating with his family to the Jamestown area in 1956. Once in the United States, he worked as an Electrical Foreman for Weber Knapp for 28 years. Upon retirement Cor and his wife Maria moved to Florida where they resided for 18 years, they then moved to Maui, Hawaii, where he lived for 15 years. He spent his remaining six years in Chautauqua County.

Cor was a passionate volunteer for numerous organizations and was a committed blood donor. Cor’s volunteer work included volunteering with the YMCA Wisemen’s Club, being a YMCA swim official, being a Lakewood Yacht Club Board member, and volunteering with the Maui Hospital. He was awarded the Maui County Outstanding Older American Award in 2017 and was honored by the Governor of Maui.

Cornelis had many hobbies including competitive swimming, competitive sailing, and playing numerous sports with his wife, Maria. He also loved to travel and visited his family across the United States and in the Netherlands often. Opa, as his grandchildren called him, was a loving grandfather who always made time to visit his eight grandchildren, call them for their birthdays, and attend all of their weddings even at the age of 100. Cor absolutely loved being a grandfather and a great grandfather.

Surviving are his two daughters and daughter-in-law: Marian (Scott McElhaney) Feenstra of Maui, Nancy (Mike Swensen) Feenstra of New York, and Sue Feenstra of Texas; and his eight grandchildren: Anneke, Marika, Carly, Les, Lindsay, Cory, Brooke, and Mazie. He also leaves behind seventeen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in the Netherlands. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Maria Van de Wal Feenstra, and son, Jan Feenstra.

Per Cornelis’s request, a private Celebration of Life will occur this summer for his friends and loved ones.

She was born in Erie on August 28, 1931 a daughter of the late Frank and Josephine Rummeli Sitter.

Dolores worked and retired from Crotty Insurance Agency. She volunteered for many years in the cafeteria and library at Blessed Sacrament School. She enjoyed baking, sewing and putting puzzles together. It was not uncommon to see Dolores riding her bike especially to the Liberty Plaza. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in various sports and dance recitals.

Dolores made many friends with the residents and staff at Pleasant Ridge Nursing Home. We would like to thank the staff for their wonderful care that they gave her. We would also like to thank the staff at AseraCare Hospice for the loving care they provided to Dolores.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard in 2021, 8 siblings, Mildred Young and Julius, Norbert, Larry, Vincent, Albert, Catherine and Leona Sitter.

She is survived by her three sons, Rick (Jeannie), Dave (Judy) and Kevin (Gretchen), grandchildren, Brian Tome, Michelle Kappler (Mike), Adam Tome (Nikki), Carolyn Tome and Steve Tome and 4 great-grandchildren, Addison, Aiden and Aubrey Kappler and Abigail Tome. Many nieces and nephews also survive. John worked as a meat cutter and meat manager for nearly 50 years at a variety of local food service locations including Loblaws, Levy’s Market, Auditori’s, Tom Hills and Century Foods, retiring in 2000 from Quality Markets. He continued to work part-time in food services for another decade. He was a lifetime member of the Siebenbuerger Club and The Sunflower Club, in addition to membership in Local I UFCW.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lavina Hermann; a brother, James Hermann and son-in-law, Joe Krkoska.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy “Dottie” (Foran) Hermann of Erie, daughter, Lynne Krkoska of Zionsville, IN; sons, John Hermann of Perrysburg, OH, and Michael (Danielle) Hermann of Fairview; nine grandchildren, Bethany (Michael) Evans, Aimee (John) Black; Mallory, Jodi and Michael Krkoska, Zak and Jake Hermann, and Caiden and Liam Hermann; and six great-grandchildren, Asher, Beckett and Callan Evans and Charlee, Benny and Annie Black.

As her kids grew up, Helen provided daycare for other children in her home and also worked at Veva Arts. She was an excellent baker, loving to bake fresh bread, pies and cookies year round and chocolate candies for her family for holidays. She enjoyed bowling and golfing with her husband and friends, and walking and talking with her lady friends in the neighborhood and from St Mark's. Helen served in the Ladies Auxiliary at her

Church, and her faith in Christ was central to her life.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph B. Fasenmyer, brothers, Kenneth and Robert Elder, sisters, Lucille Fisher, Evelyn O'Neil and Donna Gardner, an infant son, Joseph Jerry Fasenmyer, and a son-in-law, David Rougeux, Jr. She is survived by her children, Joseph J. Fasenmyer (Christine), Sheri Rougeux (David), Jeffrey Fasenmyer (Diane), and Joshua Fasenmyer (Terra), 12 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren,
