Obituary Preview: Teresa Rita McGee (nee Galanaugh) passed peacefully on Aptil 20, 2022 at her home in Concord Township at the age of 94. Formally of Primos, PA, she was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. McGee. Loving mother of Joseph A. McGee Jr. (Grace), Mary McGee-Kristal (Jerry), Patricia McGee-Albany (William) and Martin G. McGee (Carol). Also survived by 9 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Known by many as "Rita" she was born in 1927 to Joseph and Veronica Galanaugh of West Philadelphia and attended Most Blessed Sacrament parish grade school and West Catholic High School for Girls. She was a graduate of the Fitzgerald Mercy Nursing School and spent her nursing career caring for infants at the Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital Maternity Ward. She and her husband Joe were married for 62 years and spent their adult lives as active members of St. Eugene parish in Primos, PA. She was an avid reader of spy, crime and mystery novels and was know for her quick wit and dry sense of humor. Teresa will be dearly missed by her family and good friends at Maris Grove.

Beloved grandmother of Kristin Craig, Michele Murtaugh (Jack), Denise Jeffery, Karen Jeffery and Suzy Szafran. Loving Memom to Wyatt, Maggie, Emilee, Ian, CJ, Katelyn and Carter. Daughter of the late Francis and Catherine Conway.  Sister of Anne Bilbrough, Joan Capoferri, Martin Conway and the late Francis Conway and Theresa McCormick,
Affectionately called "Mickey", she was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but was raised in Colwyn, PA.  She was an employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad as a clerk for more than 40 years. She enjoyed taking her granddaughters for rides on the train, the tram cars in Wildwood and spending time with her friends and family at the beaches of New Jersey and Florida. But most of all loved being with family no matter the location.

Raised in Southwest Philadelphia and was a proud West Catholic Girls High School Graduate. Cass was a longtime St. Kevin Church parishioner, registering in November, 1963.
Cass was the beloved wife of the late Thomas A. Miller and also predeceased by her beloved son, Thomas A. Miller, Jr. Cass leaves behind her loving children: Liz Miller, Kathleen Crawford, Joseph Miller (Patti), Matthew Miller (Kathy), Ellen Humphreys (Dave), Christine Keithly (Brian) and Marianne Emmi (John) and daughter-in-law Carol Miller-Brough (Jack). Cass was the beloved Grandmom to 24 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Mickey McShane (Catherine) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings: Mary Witz (William), Loretta McShane (Martin), Betty Roe (Jim), Charles McShane (Anna Mary) and Samuel Aaron (Rosemary).

John Francis Caulfield - December 27, 1941 - March 09, 2022

Obituary Preview: John Francis Caulfield born December 27, 1941, passed away peacefully at Lankenau Hospital on March 9, 2022 surrounded by his family. Born to his loving parents, John and Mary and grew up on S. Lynn Boulevard. He attended St. Laurence Elementary School and Msgr. Bonner High School. John was a bartender for several years in his father’s bars in Philadelphia and New York City before becoming an insurance agent working the "debit". His real claim to fame was his stint as an original “Essential” with doo-wop group "Billy and the Essentials" from 1959-1962. His hit songs were “Over the Weekend”, “Maybe You’ll Be There” and “The Dance is Over”. John was proud of his 31 years of sobriety which he attributed to the support of his loving wife of 41 years, Lucille (nee D’Alonzo) and Alcoholics Anonymous. John was a big sports fan, a perfectionist and loved his family though he admitted he had difficulty expressing his affection. He was extremely proud of his children and their many accomplishments.
He is survived by his sons: John (Colleen) and Joseph (Morganne); daughters: Teresa Butler (Scott), Christine Liebel (Brian), Jacqueline Boswell (Troy Laypo), Allison Garfinkel (Brian) and Julie Ann (Alex Gladstone); siblings: Teresa Nagle, James (Allyson), Michael (Kathleen), Jackie Gallina (Bob) and Marianne Meehan (Cliff); John was known as Pop Pop to his 13 grandchildren: Christopher, Nicholas, Andrew, John E., Jillian, Claudia, Brian, John Liebel, Mark, Julian, Abigail, Isabel and Shira, his 6 great-grandchildren: Joshua, Andrew, Evangeline, Zoë, Silas and Blake and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by siblings John, Thomas and Maureen.

Dan Eury - December 20, 1939 - February 25, 2022

Obituary Preview: On Friday, February 25, 2022, Dan Eury, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at home. He entered this world on December 20,1939 in Concord, North Carolina to E.T. and Nettie Eury.  He is predeceased by his siblings; Ray, Marvin, Sue, Jerry, Michael, and James. Dan enlisted in the United States Navy in 1958. While stationed in Philadelphia, Dan met the love of his life, Annie Carragher. After a 10 month courtship, Dan and Annie married at St. Cyril’s in East Lansdowne and celebrated 58 years and 10 months together. Dan and Annie welcomed five children; Rose (James) Shirk, Danny (Terri), John, Patrick (Elaine), and Brian (Lindsay). He is the loving Pop-Pop of Kyle, Patrick, Annie, Colin, Liam, Daniel, Leeann, Maggie, Keira, and Sean.
After the Navy, Dan worked for the US Post Office for over 35 years. Moving back and forth from East Lansdowne to North Carolina, he achieved his Associates Degree while working full time and raising a family. Upon retirement from the Post Office, he worked at Villanova University for close to 12 years. Dan’s service to his community did not stop with the Navy. His service was a lifelong passion where he served on St. Cyril’s’ Home and School Association, Boy Scouts of America, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Chapel of the Four Chaplains, Regina Mundi Priory, American Postal Workers Union (APWU) Retirement Association, and the U.S. Macon Carriers Association. Dan was a lifelong Servant Leader. He never sought attention but always pursued doing the work that was needed. Whether it was organizing fundraisers for the Knights, marking the graves of veterans at Fernwood Cemetery with American Flags for Memorial Day or setting up tents for St. Cyril’s annual carnival- Dan was there with his children with whom he shared his passion for community service. Irish by marriage, Dan also volunteered to coordinate the annual Communion Breakfast for the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Sean MacBride Division 2. He was an avid fan of the Phillies, Eagles, 76ers, and Villanova Men’s Basketball along with all of his grandchildren’s games.

Fran graduated from Saint Barnabas grade school and was a 1977 graduate of West Catholic High School for Boys. He was a cable installer for a number of years and was very active in the AOH Club in Briarcliffe and the Knights of Columbus on Baltimore Pike in Springfield.
Fran was the son of the late William and Mary (nee McShane) Witz. Beloved brother of Mary Bartlett (Ken), Bill (Jane and the late Maureen), Peggy Sullivan (Bill), Mickey Witz (Anne), Betty Clark (Joe), John Witz (Tracy), Sam Aaron (Amy), Amy Flite (the late John), and Patrick Aaron (Denise). Fran was also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He received the Religious Habit and Name Fidelis of Mary on September 7, 1952 and pronounced Perpetual Vows at Ocean Rest in Ocean City NJ on August 17, 1959.

Joseph Sakosky, Capt., USAF (retired) - December 11, 1950 - January 22, 2022

Obituary Preview: Joseph “Joe” Sakosky died peacefully surrounded by family at his bedside on Saturday, Jan. 22 at Bryn Mawr Hospital, after months of declining health. Mr. Sakosky was a longtime resident of Glenolden, Pa. and served his country admirably in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Sakosky was born in Darby, Pa. and attended St. Joseph’s (Collingdale) Catholic School before enrolling at Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware. At Archmere his academic excellence (as evidenced by his perfect 1600 SAT score) earned him a full scholarship. In addition, he earned a scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. Joseph went on to obtain a Master of Science degree in International Business Studies at the University of South Carolina, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology.
Mr. Sakosky enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1975 and served as a military interrogator in Coburg, West Germany. During his four years in the Army, Joseph demonstrated an extraordinary ability to learn languages. He ultimately became fluent in German, French, Russian, Polish, Italian, Finnish, Dutch and Norwegian over the course of his lifetime.
In 1983, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served as an Astronautical Engineer assigned to Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton Ohio and Vandenburg AFB in Lompoc, Calif. During his time at Wright Patterson, he authored a foundational paper on quaternion numbering for multi-dimensional representation of airframes and their associated flight characteristics. This work contributed to today's modern understanding of aircraft and missile flight behaviors. At Vandenberg, he used his deep subject matter expertise to manage national space program support operations, including the first three west coast TITAN IV missile launches.
Mr. Sakosky possessed a quiet, humble, and pensive demeanor but had a warm smile and was kind and courteous to whomever he met. He put his language fluency to use. Standing over 6’5”, Joseph was longtime member of Tall Clubs International, where he held various office positions, Joseph enjoyed the organization's international meetings and made annual trips to Europe for over twenty years. His passport stamps bear witness to his prolific travels across the continent.
Mr. Sakosky was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma national business Honor Society as well as Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society. Joseph volunteered for hospice organizations and the California Special Olympics.
Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Joseph M. Sakosky, and mother, Helen T. (Kosierowski) Sakosky.
He is survived by his son, Peter Sakosky (Kim), grandchildren Grant and Weston, sisters Barbara Purks, Marie Kelly (John D.), brothers John and Michael Sakosky (Paula), six nieces, three nephews, and his longtime partner and travel companion, Florenta Caprer.

Patrick Joseph Taggart, Jr. - August 15, 1953 - January 14, 2022

Joe was a resident of Essington but was raised and lived in Southwest Philadelphia for many years. Joe attended West Catholic High School for Boys before joining the Army in 1971. Joe is retired from the U.S. Marshall Service and also the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union. Joe for many years owned and operated the Patrick J. Taggart Sr. AOH Club in Southwest Philly. Joe had a sparkle in his eye and a heart of gold.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Linda (nee Miller) Taggart and his beloved children Patrick Taggart (Courtney), Ryan Taggart (Sarah) and Brooke Taggart. Loving pop-pop of Skylar, Cameron and Delaney. Brother of Charles "Chickie" Barclay, Carol Gibson, Phyllis Davis, Patricia Davidson, Dorothy Derr, Eugene Taggart, John Taggart, Michael Taggart, Kelly Taggart and the late Lois Halloran. Peggy "Sis" Johnson - January 13, 1928 - January 12, 2022

Obituary Preview: Peggy "Sis" Johnson (nee Mullee) age 93 passed away at home on January 12, 2022, one day before her 94th birthday. Peggy has lived in Clermont, NJ for a number of years but was born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia where she was a member of both Good Shepherd and Saint Barnabas Parishes. Peggy worked for a short time at Bell of Pennsylvania and then for a number of years was an assistant office manager for Parrish Security in Center City Philadelphia.
Peggy is survived by her son Bill Rafter (Terry) and her sister Diane Mullee. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Robert who died in 1974. Also predeceased by her siblings: Mark Mullee, Carol Ann Mullee and Donald Mullee.

James E. Rastatter - August 11, 1922 - January 03, 2022

Obituary Preview: James Rastatter passed away at his home in Havertown, PA on January 3, 2022.  He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen (nee Furey) as well as two of his sons James Jr., and William as well as two sisters Mary (Wickersham) and Sister Margaret RSM.  He is survived by four siblings: Kathleen Bossone, Harry Rastatter, Ann (Cissy) Tadler, and John Albert Rastatter as well as six children: John, Paul, Daniel, Mary, Nancy Guerra (Mike) and Joseph (Jeanine).  He also has 8 grandchildren: Alex, Rachel, Bridget, Trevor, Ryan, Joseph, Jenna, and Lily as well as one great-grandchild, William. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces.
Jim or Buddy as he was known to his immediate family was born in Renovo, PA, on August 11, 1922, to Harry and Helen (nee Dougherty) Rastatter.  He was the second of seven children.  His family moved to West Philadelphia when he was a young child.  He was a graduate of Saint Francis DeSales and West Catholic.  Soon after his high school graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corp to proudly serve our country during World War 2.  He spent time in Okinawa, before landing in occupied Japan.
After the war, Jim attended Saint Joseph’s University, and during that time, he met Kathleen Furey, the love of his life.  They soon married and started a large family.  Jim worked at Burroughs Computer as a Financial Analyst for much of his working years before retiring in 1986.
Jim had a passion for sports.  He coached many of his children’s’ teams in football, baseball, softball, and soccer.  He was very active at Annunciation BVM.  He served as lector during mass and was the head of the CYO for many years.  In later years, he cared for his wife and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Relative's and friends are invited to Jim's Mass of Christian Burial Monday, January 10th, 11 am at Annunciation BVM Church, 401 Brookline Blvd, Havertown. A viewing will start at church at 9:30 am. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, other family members, countless friends, including surviving members of her sorority, and her devoted companion during her time of illness, Joseph Pease, Sr.  Mary was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Alice and John Cloran, Kathleen Allard, her sister, John and William Cloran, her brothers, and Margaret and Joseph Pease, her loving in-laws. Born on December 8, 1932, on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Mary was a devout Catholic and had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother. Saying a Hail Mary was her “go to” prayer and she was always willing to say one for anyone in need. She was a proud graduate of Most Blessed Sacrament grade school and West Catholic High School, Class of 1950. Mary greeted everyone she encountered with a smile!
Mary was a long-time parishioner and volunteer at Good Shepherd parish, raising her family in Southwest Philadelphia. She then was a communicant at St. Andrew parish in Drexel Hill for several years. Mary worked as a bank teller before her marriage and then again at Elmwood Federal Savings after she raised her family.  Mary was an avid bowler for many years and volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia.

Innocenza was born in Gasperina, Italy to Nicola and Anna Santa (nee Napoli) Siciliano on February 15, 1930. Cenza married her beloved husband, Francesco Russo on November 18,1951 and they were married over 62 years until his death in 2014. Together they raised their children, Elisabetta, Giovanni, and Anna Santa in Italy. In 1978, they moved their two youngest sons, Nicola and Luciano to the Overbrook section of West Philadelphia. Cenza loved to cook for her family, especially her sauce and beans in a clay pot. Food always needed to be very hot! She cherished teaching her Italian traditions and Christmas held a very important place in Cenza's heart.
Innocenza is survived by her beloved children Elisabetta (the late Saverio) Matozzo, Giovanni (Maria Louise) Russo, Anna Santa (Saverio) Carelli, Nicola (Gina) Russo and Luciano (Gina) Russo. Loving Nonna to 15 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren.

Born on September 1, 1947, Eileen was a devout Irish Catholic. She would always say a prayer for you. She loved talking about her Southwest Philadelphia roots. She was a proud graduate of Most Blessed Sacrament Grade School and West Catholic Girls High School, Class of 1965. She was honored to serve as the Class Treasurer in her Senior Year. Eileen greeted everyone she encountered with a smile and always a hug and a kiss. She was meticulous about her appearance. She will always be remembered for having her hair perfected, make up done, perfume sprayed, jewelry on, and her classy wardrobe (she always bragged that she got it on sale-never did she pay full price). Eileen wore many hats in her 74 years-whether it was scooping ice cream in Wildwood, her days at ARA, coaching track at Holy Spirit Grade school, merchandising shelves for Proctor and Gamble, being a groomer for Tipping School Photography, volunteering at Bryn Mawr Thrift Shop or taking care of her plants, she did it all with that gracious smile. However her most prestigious job was being an incredible and selfless Mom and BaBa to her children and grandchildren. There wasn’t a day of the week where she wouldn’t talk of her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy.

Betty lived the last eight and a half years in Springfield with her daughter and son in law. Betty loved spending time with her family, going to the casino, word search and especially crossword scratch offs. She worked at Macy's Department Store in Springfield until she retired at the age of 85.
