He was born on September 2, 1957, to Anna Mae (Reigle) and the late Dale J. Sherman in Dayton. Mike was in Sales for 25 years at I & K Distributors, where he received numerous awards and recognition for his performance and dedication to his company. He was also a Forklift Driver at Buckeye Boiler, Press Operator at Lord Aerospace, and painted houses in addition to his other positions. He enjoyed fly fishing, golfing, playing baseball, and hunting with his dad, brother, and chosen brothers. Mike lived his life for his family, his girls were his world. He was relentlessly a hard worker to ensure that he was able to provide for his family.

He was a graduate of Brookville High School class of 1982 and Wright State University class of 1987 where he played baseball. Doug worked for Coca-Cola for the past 30 years. Doug was inducted into the Dayton Legends Hall of Fame and was a supporter of the Milton Union Golf Club. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed bowling, horse racing, going to the casino, smoking meat, and BBQ. Doug also was a fan of the Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and enjoyed attending U.D. Flyer basketball games with his mother. His biggest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years: Carla (Garwood) Smith, daughters: Tiffany Smith and Roxanne Smith, grandchildren: Arianne, Wyatt, and Luke, mother: Margaret (Lawson) Hatmaker, sisters: Christine (Mike) Sporre, Jennifer (David) Wilmer Jr., mother-in-law and father-in-law: Judy and Roger Garwood, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends and numerous friends. Leena was born on April 11, 2019, to Atisha Ann (Sutherland) James and Delroy Anthony James in Dayton, Ohio. She loved to play, especially swinging. Leena enjoyed going to the park and her grandparent’s home to play with her cousins. Her favorite color was red because she loved roses and any red toy. Her family would say she was kind, curious, strong-willed, and confrontational. She was also very attentive and considerate to others around her.

She was born on February 19, 1933, to the late Sherman and Myrtle (Dalton) Shultz in Dayton. Phyllis was a Waitress for more than 20 years until she became self employed as an Independent House Cleaner for numerous years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, where she made many lasting friends whom she traveled with, and they positively encouraged one another. Phyllis loved all kinds of dancing, which included ballroom, swing, and social. She also enjoyed listening to all genres of music. When she wasn’t swaying to her favorite tune, you could find Phyllis reading her favorite novel. She read a lot about astrology and angels. Phyllis was very caring and giving; she donated to many charities, even when she didn’t have much to provide. Most importantly, Phyllis loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He was born on July 24, 1930, in Wayne Township, Montgomery County, at Carriage Hill / The Shoup Farm. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Harry W., and Ruth (Putterbaugh) Frantz, his brothers Don and Ned Frantz, his third wife of 38 ½ years, Elizabeth Riemer Frantz (born in Czechoslovakia, 1923), his second wife, Betty Barney Frantz, his first wife, Lydia Miller Frantz Furlong, his fourth wife, Thoradell Hoover Valentine, and his cousins Barbara and Cindy Putterbaugh. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Cristal Wolf, his step-granddaughter, Sabine (Hans-Jorg) Paulus, and two step-great-grandsons, all residing in Germany. He is also survived by his niece, Deborah Frantz Farris of Florida, and special cousins Alvin (Kathryn) Putterbaugh of New Carlisle and Valerie (Rod) Putterbaugh-Roswell of Tipp City. Additionally, Bob is survived by his special stepdaughter, Tina (Mac) Nicewander of Tipp City.
Bob dedicated 34 ½ years of his life to the U.S. military, retiring as a Master Sergeant. His active-duty rank was permanent. He also served 32 years with the State of Ohio Department of Correction at the London & Dayton Correctional Institutions, retiring in July 1992. Bob was a proud life member of the American Legion Post 707, V.F.W. Post 9582, and Amvets Post 99. Among his many awards, he received the Army Commendation First Oak Leaf Cluster twice in 6 months with 1st Infantry Div., HQ-HQ 2nd Battalion/Second with 1st & 26 Infantry, the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) for his service in Korea with the 1st Calvary A Co. 5 Regt. in 1951, and a second CIB award for his service in Vietnam in 1966. He earned numerous other accolades including the Good Conduct Clasp with 2 loops, the Japan Occupation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, and the United Nations Service Medal. Bob spent a total of 10 years overseas, entering service on December 15, 1950, and retiring in July 1990 with a 5 ½ year break.
Bob’s life was marked by dedication, service, and a deep commitment to his country and family. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his mischievous spirit, fondness for wagers, and penchant for chewing on swizzle sticks.

Northcutt, age 82, of Miamisburg, passed away peacefully at his home on April 19, 2024, Brenda welcomed him with open arms to celebrate what would’ve been their 49th wedding anniversary in Heaven. He was born on August 21, 1941, to the late William B. and Winifred (Merritt) Northcutt in Ravenna, Kentucky. Bill was employed as a Pressman for McCall’s Printing for more than 20 years, where he met his beloved wife, Brenda. He was also a District Manager for Boston Stoker for over 20 years. He was self-described as a wine and coffee “snob”. He was a member of Fairhaven Church in Centerville, where he was very active with greeting the door, working the coffee bar, and the Men’s Bible Study, to list a few. Bill had been through many trials and tribulations in his lifetime, but he always powered through and made the most of every situation. He was comically known as “The Mayor” of Centerville for those who knew him, due to his extensive involvement with the community. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, and going on cruises. He loved cars and could NEVER pass up a good deal on a Volvo! He also enjoyed bluegrass music and playing the banjo in his free time. Most of all, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family.
Bill is survived by his siblings: Charlie Northcutt of Englewood, Steve (Sally) Northcutt of Brookville, & Betty Dibley of Englewood, cousins: Jamie (Joan) Northcutt, & Gary (Carol) Northcutt, special dog: Tillie, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends he leaves to cherish his memory. Born on April 8, 1943, Gordon received his associate degree in electronics from Sinclair Community College, but was perhaps most recognizable as the man behind the counter at the Putt-Putt Golf & Games on N. Main where he served the Dayton community as course manager for over 30 years.
He was also a 25-year member of the Miami Valley Garden Railway Society (MVGRS), serving as a board member responsible for operations for many years and was an instrumental volunteer in the buildup and maintenance of the many train layouts at EnterTRAINment Junction (EJ) in West Chester, OH.
Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Judith (Allen) Havens and his parents, Guy & Christine (Gates) Havens. He is survived by his daughter, Angela Pavelka; son and son-in-law, Todd Havens & Christopher Hanada; brother-in-law, Fredric Weaver; grandchildren, Steven Pavelka of Columbus, Tyler Pavelka and his wife Carrie Berghoff of Chicago, Cassidie (Pavelka) Gregory and her husband Andy Gregory of Fairfield and Kelsie Pavelka of Dayton, and Sydney Havens of Los Angeles. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren and his nephew and niece, Jonathan & Shawna Weaver of Huber Heights, and Jessica Hatton.

He was employed for Navistar on the Assembly Line for more than 30 years, before he retired. Rich was an avid cyclist, he followed the races and remained active. In his younger years, he also enjoyed hunting and playing basketball with his sons. Rich attended and was a member of Vineyard Christian Church in Columbus, where he also assisted in their prayer groups. Most importantly, Rich loved a good homecooked meal and spending time with his loved ones.

Obituary Preview: Ted Carson Flory, age 80, of Clayton, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2024, at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. He was born on March 1, 1944, to the late John and Evelyn (Filbrun) Flory in Dayton, Ohio. Ted graduated from Colonel White High School in 1962, Otterbein College in 1966, and Wright State University in 1970. He taught at Fairborn and Dayton City Schools before serving as the Guidance Director at Brookville High School. The majority of his career was spent at Miami Valley Career Tech Center where he was an Adult Education Counselor, plus VA Certifying Official, Financial Aid Administrator, Transition Instructor, and EMTA Coordinator for many years before his retirement. After retirement, Ted was an Instructor at Comfort Keepers, and Dynamic Senior Solutions. He also volunteered for the Lighthouse Group at Salem Church of God, where he and his wife were longtime members. Ted had a deep love of music and God’s creation. He enjoyed singing hymns, gardening flowers, reading, visiting parks, and vacationing at Lakeside, Ohio with his family. Ted faithfully spent time reading the Bible, committing scripture to memory, and in prayer with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Many of those scripture verses remained with him throughout his trial with Alzheimer’s disease. Ted’s love of Christ and family characterized his life. He also had a wonderful way of showing that love and joyful spirit to countless others. His wife and daughters will always treasure their close relationship with him as one of God’s greatest blessings to them.
Ted is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years: Carol (Kratzer) Flory, daughters: Christa (Matt) Owen, Angela (John) Knisley, daughter-in-law: Tonya Flory, grandchildren: Dane Flory, Gannon, Hudson, & Brecken Owen, Caleb, Hannah, Joseph, & Daniel Knisley, brothers-in-law: Richard (Joan) Kratzer, Dan (Robin) Kratzer, along with numerous relatives and friends he leaves to cherish his memory. Obituary Preview: In Loving Memory of Nicholas Harry Frantz, who passed away unexpectedly on April 7, 2024. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Sarah, and his father, Ned Frantz. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 30 years, Amy, and their cherished children: Kaela (husband Andrew), Seth, Elizabeth and Madeline, and granddaughter Lillian, who had her “Papaw” completely wrapped around her finger. He leaves behind his loving mother, Eileen Frantz, and his in-laws Russ and Donna Moore. He is also survived by his sister, Becky Frantz Pond (husband Michael), and their daughters Hope Sloan (husband Garrett) and Claire Pond, brother-in-law Todd Moore, (wife Cindy), and children Kasi (husband Justin), Kara (husband Kyle), Troy Moore. Brother-in-law Doug Moore, (wife Kelly), and children Danielle (husband Justin), Braden, Brennon, Kori, Dane, DJ, Ava, Gabe, and Jude.
Throughout his life, Nick was driven by faith and family. He was a dedicated mentor, leader, and coach, touching the hearts and lives of many through his career with the YMCA and Northmont High School football coaching. His selflessness knew no bounds, and he worked tirelessly behind the scenes to guide and support countless kids. He was known as the "Pep talk king," and his words of encouragement uplifted all who knew him. In one of his last messages to his daughter, he shared words of God's grace and His plan, citing John 16:33 and Philippians 4:7, seeking to impart peace and strength in trying times.
Nick had a long career in sales, most recently as Senior Director of Strategic Accounts and Business Development at Henny Penny. Nick’s ability to see in others what they couldn’t see in themselves led to his strong bond with his teams. He was a proud graduate of Miami University in 1993 with a BS in Business. He walked on as a Redskin, earning a starting spot from 1989 to 1993 and second team all conference in the MAC his senior year. Nick was well known for always being the hardest worker in the room and earned the respect of all.
Nick’s impact will forever be remembered by those he inspired. Though he may be gone from our sight, his legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. We know that his most important role was that of husband and father. His love for his family will live on through each of us.
