Grandchildren include Noah Goodlett, Amelia Rhea Goodlett, Hannah Sams, Tate Sams, John Ganahl, and Savannah Ganahl.

Bobby Rhea Sams is a veteran of the United States Army, stationed in Fort Meade, Maryland. He was a loyal Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend. With a career in sales, he enjoyed talking with people and made many long-time friends. Bobby was the type of person that always had a hello and a huge smile on his face.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 10:30 am at Kerr Brothers – Harrodsburg Road. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 Wednesday. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Julie Hyden Jones, 59, of Lexington, KY passed away at her home Friday, May 3, 2024. She was born April 19, 1965, in Louisville, KY. Although only gracing this earth with her presence for 59 years, she made a huge impact to those who knew and loved her.

Julie started her musical career at the early age of 4 with Suzuki violin and started piano lessons at the age of 7. In her youth she also studied ballet and was a Girl Scout. Julie began teaching piano out of her home at just 16, and went on to earn her Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Louisville studying piano under Naomi Oliphant. Shortly after, Julie and her sweetheart, Brian, were married and moved to Florida in 1988, where she earned her Master of Arts in Teaching at Florida Atlantic University. They then moved to Chicago where she continued her teaching career from 1992 until 1998, when she and Brian moved to Lexington where she continued to teach.

Julie’s passion was with her music, and she filled the homes of many with beautiful melodies everywhere she went. She shared this passion with her daughters and with hundreds of students over the years. Julie’s joyful demeanor and bright smile enriched the lives of those around her, and her legacy will live on through the lives of whom she has touched.

Julie is survived by her husband, Brian Jones; three daughters, Courtney (Benjamin) McNutt, Katherine (Andrew) Gordon, and Madison Jones; parents, William Hyden and Susan Hooe; siblings, Harrison (Chase) Hyden and Jessica Hyden; and nieces, Eleanor and Emelia. Julie’s life will be celebrated with a visitation on Tuesday, May 7th, 2024, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington, KY from 4-6pm, and funeral services immediately following at 6pm. She was the daughter of Maurice and Anna Mae Foley and brother of Jerry Foley (Geraldine) who all preceded her in death. She is survived by sister Lena Schmucker (Don). Born on November 9, 1941, Anna Lee's life was a testament to love, faith, the importance of family, and the beauty of sharing one's talents with the world.

Anna Lee's faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she lived it fully through her active involvement in church and charitable endeavors. Her empathy and compassion knew no bounds and she found joy in extending kindness to others whenever she could. She was a devout Christian woman and follower of Jesus Christ.

Anna Lee's devotion to her family was unwavering and profound. Her nurturing spirit and fierce love created a home filled with warmth and laughter. She was the heart of her family, a beacon of strength and love that guided them through life's joys and challenges. She had a knack for turning ordinary moments into extraordinary memories during family vacations to the beach.

Anna Lee's vocal presence in the church choir loft was nothing short of angelic. From her days in the Lafayette High School marching band to singing solos at church, her love for music was infectious, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege of hearing her sing.

She worked for many years in word processing and also had several managerial positions. Her favorite job was at Walt Disney World in FL which contributed to her enduring love of all things Disney. Her last job was as the secretary for Jessamine Christian Church.

In addition to her many talents, Anna Lee was also a fabulous cook, appreciated beauty in flowers and all of nature, and was an avid birdwatcher. Her creativity and artistic flair added beauty to every aspect of her life.

Anna Lee is survived by her devoted spouse Garnie Ginter, her loving children Maurine Hume (Kevin), Meredith Mitchem (Jay), Melissa Keith (Tony), Woody Stappe (Amanda), Mike Ginter (Sue), Lynn Sheets (Chris), Tracey Ginter and Trey Ginter (Teresa). She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Anna Lee’s legacy of faith, love, kindness, and music will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will forever be cherished, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who were touched by her remarkable life.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 9th, 2024 at 10:30am at Kerr brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 8th, from 5-8pm at Kerr Brothers-Harrodsburg Road.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by, her son Philip Robert “P.R.” Gerrow Jr.; Stepdaughter Nancy (Adam) Jones; and sister Lindsey (Rick) Cox.

Nancy Lawrence - October 12, 1942 - April 25, 2024

Obituary Preview: Nancy Nickell Lawrence, 81, of Lexington, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Baptist Health, Lexington. Nancy was born October 12, 1942 to the late Robert Henry and Esther (Reynolds) Nickell of Lexington. She was a lifelong artist and an esteemed interior designer for over 40 years.

Nancy began drawing at an early age and went on to receive a Bachelor of Art in Fine Art from the University of Kentucky. In college, she began designing and dressing the windows of a women’s clothing store, Loom & Needle, in Lexington, which sparked her interest in design. Upon graduation, she began working at Farmer Mann Interior Design and married Nicholas E. Lawrence. After Nick joined the Air Force, they were stationed around the country and Nancy always found a way to continue her passion for art and design. She worked illustrating ads for The Girl Friend, a clothing store in Panama City, Florida; as an interior designer in Rantoul, Ill.; taught high school art in San Antonio, Texas and engaged in hobbies of set design and acting in playhouse productions before returning to Lexington to stay.

Nancy received NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) Certification and became a member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and branched out on her own as Nancy Nickell-Lawrence Interior Design. Nancy shared an office with Irene Mann Interior Design on High St. in the Edward Gage Company building. Nancy continued to engage in her hobbies of set design which included painting sets and calling cues for her daughter’s yearly spring recitals at Barbara Ann’s School of Dance and for the annual production of the Lexington Women’s Club Follies. She was a member of the Single Society for the Arts and, briefly, a docent at the University of Kentucky Art Museum. She retired after more than 40 years as an interior designer.

In retirement, Nancy returned to riding horses, reading, traveling, and drawing. She enjoyed weekly visits with her grandson, monthly book club meetings with friends, and long travel excursions like retracing the path of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Nancy also had an antiques booth at Athens School House where she loved to talk with others about antiques, art, and architecture. Nancy was also just as content to sit on the patio with a good friend and good neighbors.

He cherished so many friendships, especially his dear friends, Danny and Billy, his breakfast buddies. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He spent his entire adult life in Lexington, living life to the fullest with our dear mother.

He is survived by his most loving wife, Linda Welch Easley, loving children, Erin Pizzuti (Michael), Emily Montgomery, and Joseph Kyle Easley, adored grandsons, Jackson and Max Montgomery, sister in law, Sandy Easley, brother, Robert Lynn Easley, aunt, Patsy Jackson, a host of nieces and nephews and of course, his grandpup, Bandit.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford H. Easley, Sr., mother, R. Jane Jackson Easley, brother, Clifford H. Easley, Jr., and many aunts and uncles.

Marshall Lee Burge, Jr. - September 30, 1959 - April 21, 2024

Obituary Preview: Marshall Lee Burge Jr., 64, passed away April 21, 2024, at his home of residence in Winchester, KY. Born September 30, 1959, in Lexington, KY, he was the son of late Marshall L. Burge, Sr. and Geneva Lucy Burge.

Marshall was a veteran of the United States Airforce, serving his country as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Mechanic. Like his father, Marshall was also an avid music lover and talented musician, fondly known by friends and family as a gifted guitar player. He was a self-proclaimed movie buff and fan of all things Marvel universe. Marshall was a man who wore many hats in his life and greatly admired in them all. From serving as an Airmen, working in carpentry, a student of History & Philosophy, to playing guitars, and spending time with friends and family around a table enjoying board games and a good cup of coffee. In every phase of Marshall’s life, he always lived out being a very loving son, brother, a good friend, and treasured Uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Marshall was blessed over the last few years to get to make lots of beautiful memories and enjoy crossing things off his bucket list for life. He will be greatly missed by so many who loved him and his true heart of gold.

Marshall is survived by his sisters, Ima Jean (Fred) Dunaway, Diana Kay (Gary) LaDow, Glena Fay (Bobby) Jarrett, Judy Darlene (David) Rooney, and Cynthia Jo (Brian) Vaughn; 15 nieces and nephews, Fred, Carmen, Kim, Missy, Johnny, Jeff, Rodney, Angie, Kevin, Megan, Recia, Chris, Caitlin, Peter, and Capp; along with a plethora of many great-nieces and nephews, who he also spent time with and was lovingly known as “Uncle B.”, as well as many great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two of his beloved sisters, Marsha Finelli and Joyce Ann Vincent.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, with burial to follow. Visitation will be 11:30 am – 1:30 pm on Tuesday, April 30th at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Harrodsburg Road. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Ray was regarded as a visionary in his approach to Community Corrections and new jail design, as evidenced by the current Lexington Detention Center on historic Old Frankfort Pike completed in 2000 under the direction of Mr. Sabbatine. This facility is regarded as one of the best Direct Supervision facilities in the country for its many innovations and aesthetic beauty. During his tenure at the Detention Center, he was also the proud owner of Sabatini’s Gourmet Pizza.

Director Sabbatine Retired from Community Corrections in 2001, and went on to become among the top tier of National Jail Consultants in multiple corrections disciplines; providing direction, advice, and support to jurisdictions across the country.

Ray was the first Subject Matter Expert on Jail Operations employed by the Kentucky Association of Counties to provide technical assistance, training to officers, and guidance to Senior Jail leadership across the state on the issues and challenges facing them in the management of their jails.

On both the local and national scene Sabbatine was regarded as pioneering in his approach to prisoner classification, design of new institutions, direct supervision, inmate mental health, medical issues and booking operations. After retiring, Ray enjoyed being a pole vault coach, and cooking for everyone he knew.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anne Jensen Sabbatine; daughter, Andrea Sabbatine (Charlene Kearns); and niece, Maureen Winschel (Michael); and many other family members. Other than his parents, Ray is preceded in death by his sister, Pati Dailey.

Sandy held the esteemed title of Honorable Kentucky Colonel. She served as the past president of the Longmeadow Junior Women’s Club, contributed her talents as a former Mary Kay Consultant, and completed a marathon to support the American Diabetes Association. Sandy found joy in swimming, motorcycle riding, and her many bible studies. Throughout her life, Sandy devoted herself to her family’s business, Finney Company Inc., and tirelessly cared for her parents. Most of all, Sandy wanted the world to know how much she loved Jesus.

She is survived by her loving husband Leslie Wayne Preston; daughters Kelly Jo Sherlock-Coffee (John) and Kathryn Jean Sherlock; mother Betty Joe Finney; brothers Thomas Clayton Finney (Shirley) and Brian Kimball Finney; nephew Christopher Brent Finney; and her cherished granddogs Isabella Marie, Willett Larue, Benjamin Watson and Theodore Sprocket.

Sandy was proceeded in death by her father, Benjamin Finney; nephew Thomas Clayton “Clay” Finney II; and her faithful canine companions Kody and Kory.

Obituary Preview: John Elliott Kelley, 84, husband of Debra Hedger Kelley, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024. Born in Lexington, he was the son of the late Sidney and Mary Elliott Kelley. John grew up along the Kentucky River. Whether he was water-skiing in his youth, or later in life, farming on Old Richmond Road, John had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and loved his old Kentucky home.

John attended Athens School and graduated in 1958, going on to attend classes at Eastern Kentucky University. He settled on Old Richmond Road, raising cattle and growing everything from tobacco to strawberries. Many will also remember the corn maze, which welcomed many visitors to the farm he loved.

John was a loving husband, devoted father, and doting grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family dearly. Many of his hours were spent in the care of his wife and children. He loved to attend graduations, baptisms, ordinations, weddings, and other important family events.

John was generous with his time and his talents, whether it was keeping his family’s coal bucket filled as a child, or much later in life, offering a helping hand to someone in need. He also loved the Lord with all his heart. As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many capacities throughout his adult life.

John also had a passion for University of Kentucky basketball, which may have stemmed from his time as basketball team manager for the Athens School team. He was a dedicated fan who looked forward to each game.

John had many lifelong friends and acquaintances, many of whom he kept in touch with regularly. In essence, his impact has been wide and lasting. He appreciated a good tractor, made excellent beer cheese, Caesar salad dressing, and homemade ice cream, and he loved life.

He was truly loved by many. Nick had a huge heart and will still be looking out for all of us like he loved to do, except now he’s doing it from Heaven. Services for Nick will be held at 10:00 am Monday, April 22, 2024, at Kerr Brothers –Harrodsburg Road.

Visitation will be held from 2-5 pm Sunday, April 21 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.
