Juan Manuel Campos, M.D. - January 16, 1948 - December 10, 2021

Departed: 12/10/2021 (Kerrville)
Obituary Preview: Dr. Juan Manuel Campos, at age 73  was peacefully called by the LORD to his eternal rest, surrounded by his wife and children, at his Kerrville residence on December 10, 2021.
Juan was predeceased by his son Javier Moises Campos, MD (Tiffaney)  on August 31, 2021, his father Victoriano Campos (2018) and his mother Victoria Suarez Campos(2014).
Juan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Esther L Campos,  Joaquin, PhD,  (Erica), Rebecca, Monica Bowers-Campos Dr PH, (Paul), 7 grandchildren who were the delight of his life, 4 brothers Victor (Darlene), Atanacio, (Sarah),  Daniel (Lucy) and Carlos, MD,  (Isabel) and 1 sister Maria Elena Ramirez (Richard).
Juan claimed several Alma Maters:  Schreiner College (1967-68), UT  Austin (BA Microbiology), Baylor College of Medicine (MD), University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, (Family Practice Residency Program), Pan American University (Masters in Business Administration) and Texas A&M University (Masters in Public Health).
After finishing his Family Practice Residency program in San Antonio he moved to the Rio Grande Valley and served as a medical community leader for 40 years.  His practice included delivering countless babies, assisting in surgeries and advocating for his patient’s health through education and hands on treatments.  As a medical professional Juan enjoyed learning every chance he could and joyfully shared his knowledge with patients, the community and even pharmaceutical representatives.  He had an avid interest in Border Health initiatives and involved himself  at the local, state and national level to improve the quality of health of the population in the border region from  Del Rio to Brownsville, Texas.  As President of the Hidalgo-Starr Counties Medical Society he spearheaded the organization to help reform tort legislation and was victorious in passing House Bill 4, the Medical Malpractice and Tort Reform Act of 2003 and  Proposition 12.  On November  2009 he was named the Mc Allen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Physician of the Year  and continued to received many other distinguished recognitions at the local and state levels.  He traveled to Austin and Washington D.C.  as a voice advocating for the quality of life and health issues predominant in the border region.  Many people recognized him as a leader for public advocacy and was well respected by many of his peers in the medical community.
He served in the Army reserves as a Major and in 1997 he was activated to serve as a Field Surgeon during Desert Storm.
As busy as he may have been as a leader in the medical community,  Juan never gave up on his other passion…gardening.  He became a graduate of  the Master Gardener Program from the Texas A&M Extension office.  He took pride in his “green thumb” and many people were able to enjoy his fruit of the labor.  Many trees in the community were planted with trees from his tree farm and many friends, neighbors and strangers enjoyed the harvests his garden produced.
Even with all this activity, Juan always had time for his first Love:  following Jesus Christ.  He lived the Biblical model of leadership and at Dios Con Nosotros, Edinburg, Texas, the church he had membership for many years, he joyfully participated and led the men’s Bible Study on Saturdays.  He previously had memberships at First Presbyterian Church of New Braunfels, and Iglesia Union Cristiana of Mc Allen, Texas.
Visitation for Dr. Juan will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home, 1221 Junction Highway, Kerrville, Texas, from 2:00pm to 5:30pm on Friday, December 17, 2021 with a Memorial Service following at 6:00 pm.  Masking will be required. Peggy Sue Peters - September 03, 1941 - November 08, 2021

Departed: 11/08/2021 (Kerrville)
Obituary Preview: Peggy Sue Coffin Peters, age 80, passed from this life on Monday, November 8, 2021, at her home in Kerrville, Texas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was born September 3, 1941, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Florence Miller Coffin and Miller G. Coffin. She was a direct descendant of Samuel Reed Miller — one of Stephen F. Austin’s “Old Three Hundred” colonists who settled in Texas in 1824.
Peggy treasured family above all. She especially enjoyed family game nights and was a talented artist, gardener, and seamstress. She unselfishly shared her passion of genealogy. She was the family historian — researching, scrapbooking, and documenting genealogical history for family and friends.
As a child, she and her family lived in numerous Texas and Louisiana towns. She graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi in 1960, and then attended business college.
Soon after, she met the love of her life, Michael D. Peters, and they married in Corpus Christi on October 6, 1962. In 1967 they moved to Portland, Texas, where they were active members of the First Christian Church. Peggy settled into her career as a homemaker, and she cherished time spent leading their two daughters’ Girl Scout trips, activities and outings.
During those early years, Mike and Peggy began a family tradition of summer camping trips that continued throughout their life together, which has carried over to their daughters’ families.
In 1978, the family moved to Kingsville, Texas. They were members of the Kingsville First Christian Church, and Peggy worked for Texas Farm Bureau Insurance in Ricardo.
When their daughters went to college, Peggy and Mike moved to Houston, Texas, where they were active members of the Houston Astronomical Society. During this time, they purchased vacation property in the Texas Hill Country to carry on traditions of hunting and family gatherings started by her parents at their ranch. They built a home on the property and taught the next generations about hunting and honoring nature.
After Mike retired, they relocated from Houston to Corpus Christi, and later to Kerrville, Texas, to be near their children. In later years, Peggy especially loved activities with her grandchildren, including arts and crafts, cooking, and attending their sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Michael D. Peters; sister, Linda Coffin Lofland (Donald) of Victoria, Texas; brother, James E. Coffin (Lynn) of Kerrville, Texas; daughters, Michelle Peters Ruehrwein (Chris) of Kerrville, Texas; Jacquelyn Peters Kludt (Michael Jos) of Kerrville, Texas; grandchildren, Amber Whatley of Austin, Texas, and Maxwell Kludt of Kerrville, Texas.
Services for Peggy will be held at 2PM on Saturday, December 11,2021 at Kerrville Funeral Home.
