Alvie J. Hackle - November 17, 1920 - July 09, 2019

Obituary Preview: Alvie J. Hackle, 98, a farmer, steward of the land and lifelong resident of the Evergreen community of Candler, Evans and Tattnall counties, died Tuesday afternoon, July 9, following a roadway accident near his home.
A dedicated Christian, Mr. Hackle was a deacon emeritus of Evergreen Baptist Church, where he had chaired the board of deacons and for many years taught adult Sunday school classes.
Eldest of the eight children of the late Ernie Hackle and Mattie Lou Thrift Hackle, Alvie Hackle was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. A sergeant and squad leader with the 389th Infantry Regiment, he served in the invasions of Leyte and Luzon in the Philippines and then in the occupation of Japan after its surrender. He received the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and four service stars for duty in combat.
For 65 years, he was married to the love of his life, Alvena Proctor Hackle, until her death in 2012.
Mr. Hackle is survived by sons Randy (wife Sheryl) Hackle of Statesboro, Georgia; Wendell Hackle of the Evergreen Community; Al (wife June) Hackle of Claxton, Georgia; granddaughters Jenine Carpenter and Valerie Strickland; grandson Walden Hackle; five great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; and a devoted family friend and caregiver, his “adopted daughter,” Mary O. Waters.
Also surviving are his brother Jan (wife Juanita) Hackle of Evans County, Georgia, and his sister Modrea Hackle Collins of Tattnall County, Georgia.
He is predeceased by siblings Dellorah Hackle Wickham, Ellie Hackle, E.C. Hackle, Audrey Hackle Roberts and Geraldine Hackle Provence.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes Metter Chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at Evergreen Baptist Church with Dr. John Geerdes officiating.
Pallbearers include Kenneth Andrews, Ben Collins, Kyle Hackle, Rey Carpenter, Eli Holloway, John Thrift and Jason West.

Mrs. Hendley was born on December 12, 1949 to Mr. Onie and Mrs. Gladys Collins Mercer in Candler County. The Candler County native was an accountant with the Post Office for many years. She was an avid church goer and of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Vernon Mercer.
She is survived by her children, Tina Loy of Orange Park, FL and Tiffany Hendley of Clarksville, TN; 1 Grandchild, 2 Great-Grandchildren and numerous other relatives also survive.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Primitive Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Beasley officiating.

Mr. Holland was born on September 2, 1934 to Mr. Tom and Mrs. Murlee Dowd Holland in Candler County. The Candler County native retired from McCorkle Cricket Farm after many years of loyal service. He was of the Baptist faith and in his spare time enjoyed being outdoors, coon hunting, tending to his flower garden and being with his dogs.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irma Jean Humphrey Holland; two brothers, U. A Holland and Lance Holland and a sister, Ruth Eva Robbins.
He is survived by his children, Tommy Holland (Angela) of Cedar Crossing and Richard Holland (Laura) of Metter; sister, Jeannette McGauley (Jim) of Tallahassee, FL and Canine best friend, Carlos. 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Metter Chapel of Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Metter Chapel of Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes with the Rev. Ray Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the Holland Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Mr. Willie Harold Thain, 99, of Metter, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Candler County Hospital.
Mr. Thain was born on January 9, 1920 to Mr. Lewie Stammers and Mrs. Tera Parish Thain in Metter. He joined the United States Army in February of 1943, while in the Army he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and EAMET Service Medal. He received the rank of Technician 5th grade or Corporal while serving in the Army. When he returned to Metter he worked with Pineland Telephone and retired in 1985. He was a Non-Denominational Christian and he was known to be a workaholic.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Louise Forehand Thain, 3 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by: Children, Ellen Coleman (David) of South Salem, OH Susan Daughtry (Hu) of Metter, GA
4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives also survive.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 11, 2019 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Metter Chapel of Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from the Metter Chapel of Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes with Mr. Philip Farris, Mr. George Lee, and Mr. Hu Daughtry officiating. Mr. Granados was born on January 3, 1939 to Mr. Apolinar Granados Esquivel and Mrs. Maria Luisa Vargas Fernandez in Mexico. He lived most of his life in Mexico, moving to Vidalia when he was 18. He was a farm laborer and in his spare time loved to be outdoors, with animals and spending time with his family. He attended the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vidalia.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 59 years, Cecilia Cabrera Segura. He is survived by: Children, Maria Angeles Baca (Esequiel Carmona) of Metter, Georgia Florencia Jaramillo (Juan Jaramillo) of Hatch, New Mexico Martin Granados, Sr. (Mirta Granados) of Vidalia, Georgia Susana Granados of Metter, Georgia Sara Gonzales (Cristobal Gonzales, Sr.) of Cobbtown, Georgia Luisa Dominguez (Benito Dominguez, Sr.) of Cobbtown, Georgia Araceli Ramirez (Alfredo Ramirez, Sr.) of Cobbtown, Georgia Adriana M. She was a loving, caring and humble person, loving her husband of 59 years, son, daughters, everyone and everyone loved her. In her spare time, she was always singing, she loved roses and flowers, loved to spend time outside and with her animals, loved fruit and loved music.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Daniel Granados Vargas of Vidalia. En su tiempo libre ella siempre cantaba, amaba las rosas y las flores, y le encantaba pasar tiempo afuera y con sus animals. Ella le encantaba las frutas y la musica.

Obituary Preview: William O. Boatright, Jr., 85, of Kaufman, TX passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2019 in Dallas, TX.
W.O was born in Oak Park, GA to William O. and Cynthia V. Boatright on August 11, 1933. W.O moved to the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex in the 50s and to Kaufman in 1971. He was a diesel mechanic for 50 years working for Red Ball and Ryder. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Bloomfield 112 in Kaufman, TX and was a 33rd degree mason. In his spare time he loved to hunt, fish and play shuffleboard. He was also a good cook famous for his hush puppies, cookies, fish fry’s and chili cook offs.
W.O. was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Boatright and son Randy Boatright.
Those left to cherish his memory are brother Cecil Boatright and wife and Dana of Cobbtown, GA, sisters, Virgina Kimmer of Apopka, FL and Buelah Eubanks of Atlanta, GA, daughter-in-law, Debbie Boatright of Savannah, GA, grandchild Tiffany Perry and her kids Jacob and Grace who live in Savannah, GA and numerous extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the Metter Chapel of Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes. Memorial funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. from the Metter Chapel of Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes with Rev. Jerrald Dorr officiating. Burial will be a later date.

Mr. Gurley was born on February 2, 1945 to Mr. Eric Jesup and Mrs. Margaret Brannen Gurley in Quitman, GA. He joined the U.S Army and upon his departure from the Army, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Programing Internet Technology and retired from Hart-Hanks after years of loyal service.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.
He is survived by his sons, James Allen Gurley of Gainsville, FL, Michael Jason Gurley (Anna) of Metter and Christopher Jefferson Gurley of Jacksonville, FL. Four grandchildren and several other relatives also survive.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Brannen Cemetery in Bulloch County, GA.

Bobby Lynn - August 14, 1946 - December 11, 2018

Obituary Preview: Mr. Bobby Lynn, 72 of Cobbtown/Evergreen Community, passed away Tuesday morning, December 11, 2018 after an extended illness with cancer at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Bobby was born on August 14, 1946, in Vidalia, Georgia to the late Roy Lynn and Lamons Kicklighter Lynn. He was raised in Cedar Creek Community of Tattnall County, Georgia. He graduated from Collins High School in 1964. Bobby married his high school sweetheart, Gail Funderburk, on September 10, 1965. He joined the army in 1965 and served one tour in Vietnam in 1966 and a tour in Germany in 1967. While in military service he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, 1 O/S Bar, Marksman (.45 pistol), Marksman (Rifle M-14). When his military service ended, he began his career with the telephone company in various positions that moved he and Gail throughout Georgia. The last move with the telephone company was to Odum, Georgia where they lived for 27 years. He retired in 2003 from Windstream Telephone Company and in 2004 Bobby and Gail moved back to Tattnall County to their family farm outside of Cobbtown, Georgia. Shortly after retirement, Bobby began a second career with the Georgia Department of Transportation in Reidsville. He worked 11 years as a faithful employee for GADOT, he retired in 2012 due to health reasons. Bobby was valued and loved in both careers amongst his co-workers for his tireless work ethic, dedication to the employer and customer, unique since of humor, and quick wit. Bobby was a devoted husband and father. He was a simple man that did not place value in what he drove or lived in. His values were family, honesty, humor, integrity, loyalty, respect, wisdom, and he had a unique love for his family. His favorite pastime was listening to classic rock-n-roll music and caring for the family farm animals. The family would like to thank Regency SouthernCare Hospice Services for the outstanding care, love, and support that has been given to Bobby and his family since being under their care.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father Roy Lynn, his mother Lamons Kicklighter Lynn, his sister Deanna Lynn Lee, Joyce Lynn Tucker, and brother Donald Lynn.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gail Funderburk Lynn of Cobbtown; son, Bob Lynn (Janna) of Ludowici; daughter, Melanie McCullough (Robby) of Cobbtown; brother, Derrell Lynn (Judy) of Lyons; sister, Linda Lynn of Johnson City, TN; brother-in-law, Ronnie Funderburk (Olivia) of Cobbtown; grandchildren, James McCullough (Ashely) of Athens, Brittany McCullough of Atlanta, Carolyn Cason of Ludowici, Jared and Carlee Lynn of Ludowici. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon, December 15, 2018 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes, Metter Chapel. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Saturday afternoon, December 15, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. from Sunlight Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Cobbtown.

Mr. Campbell was born on November 17, 1938 to Mr. Edmond Lamar and Mrs. Bonnie Lee Rigdon Campbell, and lived here all his life. He was a farmer and retired from the USDA Market News Division. He served as Candler County Chairman of Commissioners from 2005 to 2008, was President of Candler County Farm Bureau for several years, and was soil conservation man of the year in 1969. He attended Upper Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church and a member of Candler County Young Farmers and Sapalo Saltwater Fishing Club at Shellman’s Bluff. In his spare time he was a licensed charter boat captain, enjoyed saltwater fishing and serving as guide on off shore deep sea fishing on his boat, First Light. He also enjoyed cooking and staying at his coast house. His most important past time was spending time with his family, which he would say was the best thing since grits.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Campbell and a grandson, Michael Kay.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Parker Campbell of Metter; son, Lavon Campbell (Kristy) of Cobbtown; daughter, Tonya Campbell Harris (William) of Metter; brother, Michael Campbell (Susan) of Statesboro; grandchildren, Pamela Campbell Monroe (Jason) of Metter, Jonas Rivenbark (Brooke) of Metter, Houston Harris of Metter, Hunter Campbell of Metter, Madison Wilson (Craig) of Vidalia, Adam Dees of Vidalia and Justin Dees of Vidalia; great-grandchildren, Arleigh Grace Monroe, Cheslee Monroe, Ella Rivenbark and Cal Patrick Rivenbark all of Metter. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, December 5, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes, Metter Chapel. Mr. Taylor was born on January 31, 1943 to Mr. Colan Charles and Mrs. Myra Cowart Taylor and lived in this area all his life. He was a 1960 graduate of the Metter High School and attended Georgia Southern College, he also graduated Cum Laude from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He worked with his father for many years at Taylor Funeral Home in Metter, GA and was a partner with Taylor & Bird Nursing Home, INC for many years. He served as Mayor of Metter, GA from 1987-1990, was a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Metter, Metter Jaycees and former President of Metter Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, he was a Master Mason and former Worshipful Master of Metter Masonic Lodge #435, and recently received his 50-year pin and was a Shriner. Steve was an outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, a pilot, Scuba diver, enjoyed snow skiing, golfing, photography, traveling in Europe, United States, Canada, and Mexico in his motor home, he was a HAM Radio operator, and enjoyed spending time at Shellman Bluff.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Colan Charles and Mrs. Myra Cowart Taylor.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Hale Taylor of Metter; a son, Stephen Charles Taylor, Jr. (Tori) of Metter; a daughter, Susanne Elizabeth Taylor of Metter; granddaughters, Tatum Caroline Taylor and Emma Lawton Taylor both of Metter; a sister, Vicki Taylor Bird (Billy) of Lake Oconee, GA; nephew, Ricky Mercer (Jennifer) of Metter; nieces, Dana Bird Clutter (Bart) of Alpharetta, GA and Shannon Mercer Laird (JR) of Metter. He served his country with United States Airforce, and retired from Pineland Telephone after many years of loyal service. He was a deacon at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church, he was a former member of Metter Lions club.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary Dekle.
He is survived by his daughter, Sonya Dekle Crosby (Andy Calhoun) of Twin City; brother, Dewey Dekle (Pat) of Metter; grandchildren, Jenny Dekle Jones of Twin City and Wendell Crosby (Savannah) of Statesboro; great-grandchildren, Brody and River Jones of Twin City and Joey Crosby of Statesboro; niece, Deanna Dekle Kirkland (Eric) of Metter; nephew; Chad Dekle (Paula) of Metter. Numerous other realtives also survive.
A memorial service honoring Ricky’s life will be conducted Sunday evening, August 19, 2018 at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Ben Gay officiating. Private family burial will follow at a later date in Lower Lotts Creek Cemetery in Bulloch County.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Snipes Sconyers of Metter; a daughter Sherry Hargett (Ray) of Guyton; a son, Danny Sconyers of Metter; a sister, Lucille Davis of Hinesville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
