Obituary Preview: Marlene G. Oesterreich, age 81, of East Leroy, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. Marlene was born on November 10, 1940, in Chicago (Roseland), Illinois, the daughter of the late Richard and Dorothy (Leistra) Prince. She graduated from Chicago Christian High School in 1958. She attended Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek. Marlene was united in marriage with Edwin J. Oesterreich on October 2, 1959. They are members of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Battle Creek and were previous longtime members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Marlene loved the Lord and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and she took extraordinary joy in caring for her family.
Marlene is survived by her loving husband, Edwin J. Oesterreich; three sons, Paul (Amy) Oesterreich, Mark (Aimee) Oesterreich, and Timothy (Maggy) Oesterreich; six grandchildren, Stephen (Allysia) Oesterreich, Heidi (Ryan) Davis, Tyler (Shari) Oesterreich, Kristin (Daniel) Reck, Mackenzie Oesterreich, and Jake Oesterreich; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn (Richard) Aring; and one brother-in-law, Henry Hartog.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Bonnie Hartog.
Friends may visit with the family from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 114 E. Minges Rd., Battle Creek, MI 49015. After the visitation, a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Pastor Jack Langfeldt will officiate the service, with interment to follow in Morgan Cemetery in LeRoy Township. She was born on November 15, 1981 to Gary and Gladys (Slone) Shaffmaster in Mount Holly, New Jersey. She was a 1999 graduate of Battle Creek Central. On November 17, 2001 she married Danial Martin in Battle Creek, Michigan.
She was a very loving, generous, and gracious person who was devoted to providing the best for those close to her. Lisa was an excellent student, artist and writer of poetry, she has had several pieces of poetry published. She will be missed for her sense of humor and her collection of TAZ memorabilia. Lisa, more than anything loved her daughters and her family.
Lisa is survived by her loving husband, Danial, her two daughters; Taylor Marie Martin and Elizabeth Annmarie Martin both of Battle Creek, Michigan, her brother; Jason (Stacy) L. Shaffmaster of Battle Creek, Michigan, her sister; Amy Martin of Kalamazoo, Michigan, her sister-in-laws; Aubrey Ennik of Central Lake, Michigan and April (Paul) Williams of Battle Creek, Michigan, her nephew; Jayson Robert Shaffmaster of Battle Creek, Michigan  and her two nieces; Trinity F. Shaffmaster and Haillie Shi Shaffmaster both of Battle Creek, Michigan.
A Celebration of Lisa life will be held at a later date.

He was born on February 19, 1937, to Paul and Trix (Groff) Humiston in Grand Rapids, MI. He was a graduate of Marshall High School, Class of 1955 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gretchen, three daughters, Kimberly (David) Berzina of Fort Worth, TX, Michelle (Duane) McPeak of Kingwood, TX, and Suzanna (Rieger) Lesiow of Battle Creek, MI, and six grandchildren.
Per Paul’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service to honor his life will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 16 E Van Buren St, Battle Creek, MI 49017 on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 11:00 am, with the Rev. Brian Coleman officiating. A more complete obituary will be forthcoming.

Obituary Preview: Robert E. McNally, 93, of Battle Creek MI, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Bickford Cottage. He was born to Charles and Lucille (Street) McNally in Purdin MO in 1928. He graduated from Albion College, where he met the love of his life, wife Lois (O’Donnell). He owned Battle Creek Motor Parts from 1951 to 1988.  He was a past president of the MI Automotive Wholesalers and the National Automotive Service Industry Association, and was a long-time member of the Battle Creek Country Club. After retirement, he and Lois spent 15 years in Las Cruces NM, moving back to Battle Creek in 2004. He will be remembered as always having a big smile, and a positive and supportive attitude for everyone who knew him.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife, and sister Leta Black. He is survived by his sister Reta (Charles) Frew, son Lon (Julie), daughter Laura (Ross) Elliott, 4 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Terry Gordon Keefer, 79, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022, at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence in Battle Creek, Michigan.
He was born on July 23, 1942, to Victor and Elaine  Keefer in Ionia, Michigan. He graduated from a small country school in Ionia and then continued his education at Concordia Seminary, Springfield, IL.
Terry was the former Pastor at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Colon, Michigan and at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Union City, Michigan, retiring in 1996.Member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Battle Creek and was also an Elder with the church. Terry will be remembered for sharing the word of God.  Terry will be missed for his genuine caring for and wanting to help people. He enjoyed his cats, reading especially the Bible and walking. Terry also enjoyed delivering the Battle Creek Shopper.
Terry is survived by his loving daughter: Kristina Keefer of Battle Creek, Michigan, and his brother: Phillip (Janice) Keefer of Lyons, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Terry will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at St. Mark Lutheran Church 114 E. Minges Rd. Battle Creek, Michigan 49015 with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Jack Langfeldt officiating.
Burial will take place at Keefer-Olmstead Cemetery in Lyons, Michigan.

She was born on February 20, 1961 to Lincoln T. and Alice M. (Lawrence) Crampton, in Marshall, Michigan.
After graduation from Marshall High School, Angela attended Wright’s Beauty Academy in Battle Creek. She was employed as a licensed cosmetologist for over 30 years, working at many wonderful salons including Ferrari’s, Just for Me, and Nature’s Design.  She had many loyal clients, who once they had Angie cut their hair, never wanted to go to anyone else. One of her passions was helping people achieve their “best look” through her hair and make-up talents.
In her leisure time, Angela enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed making jewelry, going to the movies and family beach days. She had a strong faith base and loved the Lord.
Angela is survived by her loving daughter, Bailee Dunbar of Battle Creek, her grandchildren, An’Drea Yvonna, Jordan La’Ron, A’Mora Angela-Grace and A’Vah Noelle-Leigh, her siblings Martha and Jerrold of Marshall, Raymond of Battle Creek and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Angela will be greatly missed and will remain forever in our hearts.
A gathering for family and friends will be held from 3 – 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 2838 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49015. A private family graveside service will take place later in Oakridge Cemetery.

Diana Jean Keeder - January 11, 1946 - March 15, 2022

She was born on January 11, 1946, to Adelbert and Marion (Budd) Smith in Jackson. She met the love of her life, Dennis and were married on March 6, 1965.
Diana was a loving Wife, Mom, Grandma, Nana, Sister, and Friend. She was a devoted wife of 57 years to Dennis Keeder. Together they created a beautiful family and a life rich in life-long friendships. Family and friends were her world, and she gave her whole heart for anyone at any time. She had a loving warmth and feisty personality that will be missed dearly. Diana was passionate about gardening, cooking/baking, and living life to its fullest. When she wasn’t at home, she could be found with friends at the campgrounds, playing card games, bowling, or spending endless hours with her beloved grandkids and great grandkids. Diana was an avid bowler. She bowled for 46 years on Starlite Mixed and 40+ Funtimers League at Airport Lanes in Jackson. Diana was the bowling league secretary for 40+ years. Diana and Dennis were longtime campers at Sherwood Forest Campground in Munith, Michigan. She was known for her home-made noodles, bean soup and especially her Christmas sugar cookies.
Diana is survived by her loving husband of 57 years; Dennis, her children; Denise (Phil) Johnson of Jackson; Daniel (Poppy) Keeder of Jackson, Dean (Karen) Keeder of Kalamazoo; her granddaughter-in-law; Sara Johnson-Taylor of West Sussex, England, her grandchildren; Crystal (Lee) Stineman of Jackson, Patrick (Eden) Johnson of Jackson, Emma Keeder and Abigail Keeder of Kalamazoo, her great-grandchildren; Lily Taylor, Landon Stineman, Addison Stineman, Brantley Johnson and Eliana Johnson; her brother; James (AJ) Laura Smith of Houghton Lake and her sister; Sandy (Marv) Moss of Leslie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adelbert and Marion Smith, her grandson; Phillip Johnson II, her sisters; Judy Bellew and Dawn Southworth and her brother; DeWayne Smith.
Diana would often say, “I love you like the whole sky.” With her newly gained angel wings, she is truly our families “whole sky” watching us from above.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 1:00 pm at the American Legion Post # 29 3200 Lansing Ave. Jackson, Michigan 49202. The family invites you to stay after the service for a time of food, refreshment, and fellowship, until 5:00 pm.

Eric Douglas Stites - February 25, 1970 - March 08, 2022

Obituary Preview: Eric Douglas Stites, 52, of Kalamazoo MI passed away Tuesday, March 8th at 10:30pm surrounded by his siblings and Deb. Born, February 25, 1970, in Fairborn, Ohio, he is a son of the late, Carl Stites Sr., who was his idol.
Eric was a graduate of Pennfield High School Class of 1988 where he played football, baseball, and wrestling. He went on to work at Edward Rose & Sons and was the youngest employee to ever be promoted into a regional director role and moved up to their corporate office. He was extremely proud of this accomplishment.
Eric was an avid golfer and he loved football- Ohio State and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a passion for hunting and working with his hands—using the skills he learned from Big C. He loved fresh flowers and watching his birds & deer out back. He had more friends than you could count and made new friends everywhere he went. In his spare time, you could find him spending time with his lifelong “brother” friends at the Schulz Cabin, telling a story about his youth, or on the golf course.
He will be deeply missed by his closest friend, Deborah “Deb” Klein (co-God Parent to Paige) of Parsippany NJ; his mother, Marilyn Olson of Upper Sandusky Ohio; sister, Marlene (Jim) Pardoe of Roscommon MI; brother, Carl (Kristy) Stites Jr of Rockford MI; niece Kari Pardoe of Royal Oak; and nieces Sydney, Alexandra, and Paige (God Daughter) Stites.
We will celebrate Eric’s life on Saturday, March 12, 2022, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Martell’s, 3501 Greenleaf Blvd, Kalamazoo, MI 49008. A golf event will be held in Eric’s honor later this year. If desired, flowers can be sent to Martell’s for Eric’s celebration, or donations can be made to Pennfield High School Athletic program.

Frances was united in marriage with Maurice Swan, who preceded her in death. She is survived by their daughters, Sandra (Matt) Compton and Becki (Bill) Dornton; grandsons, Travis Compton, Ethan Dornton, and Eli Dornton; and siblings, Sue Corbin, Janet Belote, Karen Ryan, John Tramel, Richard Tramel.

Mary Ann Sikora - June 12, 1926 - March 04, 2022

Obituary Preview: Heaven gained a special angel on Friday, March 4, 2022.  Mary Ann (Boronky) Sikora, age 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in her home in Battle Creek, MI.   She was born in Duquesne, PA to Mary and Michael Boronky.  She married Victor W. Sikora on February 5, 1948.  Together they raised their two sons in Wadsworth, OH and later moved to Battle Creek, MI.
Mary always had a beautiful smile, a warm hug, and delicious food made with love.  She shared her love of baking with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She prayed for everyone, judged no one, and had a way of making you feel like family even if you weren't related. She was able to navigate life’s challenging times with determination and grace.
She was fiercely independent, had a great sense of humor, and loved playing bunco and going to lunches with her friends.  She was very proud to be able to live independently up to the age of 93.  She rarely missed her grandchildren’s special events and was always one of their biggest cheerleaders.  Their sports teammates enjoyed her famous banana nut bread and the volleyball girls quickly learned to rely on Granny’s famous purse to have anything they needed.
Mary was an avid sports fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Ohio State Buckeyes, sometimes watching one game on tv while listening to another on her xm radio.
Mary was preceded in death by her great grandson, Edziu Byron Kieltyka; her husband Victor W. Sikora; her siblings, Anna Boronky (Fran) Wagner and Michael (Lois Ann) Boronky.
She leaves behind her sons, Martin D. (Jan) Sikora of Cincinnati, OH and V. Douglas (Cathy) Sikora, of Ceresco, MI; her grandchildren Gwen (Matt) Raih, Jessie Sikora, Brett (Marcela) Sikora, Abby (Aaron) Kieltyka; and great grandchildren Wendy Raih, Maddie Raih, Kai Sikora, Bartosz Kieltyka, Malu Sikora, honorary granddaughter, Ulrike Haug, and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her wonderful loving caregivers at Northpointe Woods assisted living.
Services have been entrusted to Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 2838 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49015. Visitation will be Thursday, March 10, 2022, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and Friday, March 11, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 61 N. 23rd Street, Battle Creek, MI 49015 from 10:30am until the Funeral Mass begins at 11:30am with Fr. Maximilian Nightingale officiating. A committal service will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, MI 49012.

She was born on December 7, 1918 to His-Chu Sun and Chieh-Chih Chang. She graduated from Yi-Jiao High School for Girls of Beijing and many years later attended Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek. Theresa worked as a elementary teacher for East Ironsmith Lane Elementary School in Beijing. On December 11, 1936, she married Dr. Peter Fan-Tih Chiang. Peter preceded her in death in 1999. They lived in Bellevue, MI for many years after Peter took the job teaching at Olivet College.
Theresa is survived by her son, Yao-Tung (Iris) Chiang of Westmont, IL and five daughters, Chi-Shung Chiang of Oxnard, CA, Michele (Daniel) Wu of Kalamazoo, MI, Angela (George) Cheng of Battle Creek, MI, Grace Chiang of Battle Creek, MI, Lu-Shung (Peter) Sheh of Santa Rosa, CA; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Chin-Quan Sun and two sisters, Ya-Xin and Ya-Tian. She was preceded in death by one brother, Chin-Tse Sun.
Friends may visit with the family from 3 – 7 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022, at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 2838 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49015. Following the visitation, a Rosary Service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. He was born on June 19, 1993 to Phillip (Tonia) Wendt and Cathy (Garry) (Remaley) Millard in Battle Creek. Tyler was a graduate of Marshall High School and also played on their football team.
Tyler loved the Jeep brand and working with his dad fixing cars. Tyler was affectionately known as Mr. Clean, he just loved to vacuum and keep a clean house, just ask his family and friends. He loved his family above anything else and the times spent at the beach and at Silver Lake. He was a member of the Sip & Save Club at Circle K. Tyler will be genuinely missed for making those around him laugh and feel good about themselves. His family could always count on Tyler to be an advocate for getting to the bottom of situations or problems. He loved cars and listening to every kind of music.

Obituary Preview: Paul Collins Boes, age 55, of Battle Creek, passed away after a short illness (non-COVID related) on January 25, 2022, at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.
Paul was born in Battle Creek, MI, on January 5, 1967, to Lester and Sandra (Collins) Boes. He graduated from Lakeview High School class of 1985. He then attended Kellogg Community College and continued his education at Western Michigan University where he graduated with honors earning his Bachelors Degree in Education. Paul worked during college for Sears Roebuck & Company, then accepted a position as a claims specialist at State Farm Insurance retiring after 29 years of service. He was united in marriage with Darla Boone on June 15, 2002. In his youth, he was an active member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Paul was active in various sports growing up including floor hockey, little league baseball, basketball, bowling, fishing and especially golf. Paul was an accomplished golfer earning a varsity letter in high school as well as finishing second twice in the Calhoun Country Amateur and qualifying for the Michigan Open. He was a two-time club champion at Riverside Country Club and a one-time club champion at Battle Creek Country Club and made three hole-in-ones during his golfing career!
He was a diehard University of Michigan fan as well as an avid Red Wings, Tigers and Lions fan. He enjoyed reading and watching history related programs.
Paul was a kind and gentle soul, quiet by nature, willing to give sage advice but not until he was asked. He will greatly be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his family and many golf buddies.
Paul is survived by his loving spouse Darla Boes; his brother, Jody (Maria) Boes; his golden retriever Lucy and orange tabby Bert affectionately known as “the kids”, as well as and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester J. Boes and Sandra Boes and beloved golden retriever Maggie and cat Luc.
Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at Kempf Family Funeral & Cremation Services, 2838 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49015. A funeral ceremony will take place at 12 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022, at the funeral home, with Rev. James Dyke officiating. Douglas is survived by his loving wife Holly, his step-daughter, Heather Music of Battle Creek, Michigan; his step-grandson, Dakota Music of Battle Creek, Michigan; his sisters; Patty (Douglas) Kinkema of Lake City, Michigan, Nancy (Ted LeDoux) Johnson of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: David Dene Callihan, age 89, of Battle Creek, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on January 18, 2022. He was born on March 16, 1932. He became a Christian in 1976. He was a member of First Assembly of God in Battle Creek. His parents were Arthur and Rhea Callihan, former Barry County residents. They married and moved to Battle Creek, where David spent most of his life. He received championship ribbons for swimming in Junior and Senior High school. He played in band, baseball, basketball, and football. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1950. He was hired by the Kellogg Company and worked in production for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Kellogg 25 year club. David served his country for three years in the United States Navy, the branch known as Naval Air. He was honorably discharges in April of 1955. He belonged to the Navy swim team in Alameda, California. His spouses were Carol Willbur Mathews, Wilma Varner Callihan, and Dona Varga-Callihan. Dona survives him and resides in Florida. He is also survived by his daughters, Callie Bartlett of Union City, MI and Karen (Mark) Staal of Wyoming, MI; grandchildren, Janice Gauss of Coldwater, MI; Shane (Melissa) Hodge, D.O. of Raleigh, N.C., David (Samantha) Hodge of Jenison, MI, Don Staal of Wyoming, MI, and Joe Staal of Wyoming, MI; great-grandchildren, Makayla, Braeden, Graham, Lila, Zoe, Carys, and Lucy.

Obituary Preview: Robert J. "RJ" Sanders, 89, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on January 12, 2022. He went home to be with our Lord and Savior after months of compassionate care by Hospice and his family.
RJ was born in Edwardsburg, Michigan, October 22, 1932, to Robert B. and Rose (Miller) Sanders. He grew up the fourth child of six and was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Sanders, grand-daughter, Ashley Graham, and his parents and siblings, Benjamin (Joyce) Sanders, Lillian (Robert) Corey, Anna Miller, Kathleen (Karl) Kommes, as well as, in-laws, Adam and Viola “Grace” Sibigtroth.
Being a kind and dependable father was of the utmost importance and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family. In addition to his wife of 67 years, Marilyn J (Sibigtroth) he is survived by his children, Bonny (Gene) Adkins, Rebecca Zaharion, Robert “Rob” Sanders, Joseph (Amy) Sanders, Barbara (Bobby G) Graham and his youngest brother David (Julie) Sanders, 21 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He served in the United States Navy for seven years and made his home in Key West, FL after being discharged in
May 1955. While in the Navy, he met, Marilyn, and they married on November 30,1954. Soon after, they returned to Michigan and started their family.
RJ was a dedicated employee of Clark Equipment for 27 years. After retirement he moved to Florida to enjoy his love for fishing, water sports and gold prospecting. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, taking long drives on the weeks, hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. In 2000 RJ enjoyed a well-deserved gold prospecting dream trip to Alaska.
A memorial service and Military honors ceremony will be held at a later date.

Obituary Preview: Trace S. Christenson III, 72, Battle Creek Enquirer justice and public safety reporter, died following a fall down the stairs at his home in Battle Creek on Sunday, January 9, 2022.
Trace was born on March 30, 1949, the son of Trace S. and Genevieve (Abney) Christenson, Jr. in Evanston, Illinois.
A native of Niles, Michigan, and a graduate of DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. Trace started at the Sturgis Journal beginning in 1973 and joined the Battle Creek Enquirer as a staff writer and photographer in 1984.
In his 37 years reporting on Battle Creek and its surrounding communities, Christenson won numerous Gannett, Associated Press and Michigan Press Association awards for his reporting and news photography, with his work being featured in publications around the globe.
In his role as justice and public safety reporter, Christenson was notably granted unparalleled access in covering crime and courts through the Battle Creek Police Department, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department and the Calhoun County Justice Center.
Between his service in Sturgis and Battle Creek, Trace spent nearly 49 years working as a journalist in southern Michigan.
A lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, he enjoyed crewing for hot air balloon teams in his spare time and was an active kayaker and cyclist. Trace along with Karen loved to spend their time together.
He is survived by his loving fiance; Karen Burns of Portage, Michigan, his sister; Genevieve “Cile” (Mark) Nabers of San Antonio, Texas, his nephews; Michael Nabers of San Antonio, Texas and Jeffrey (Rachel) Nabers of Scottsdale, Arizona, his niece; Jessica (Nelson) Schooler of Beaumont, Texas, Karen’s children; Alex (Elizabeth) Genschoreck of Sterling, Virginia, Nicholas (Brooklyn) Genschoreck of Comstock, Michigan, Karli Burns of Portage, Michigan and Megan Burns of Portage, Michigan. Trace was preceded in death by his parents.

Robert is survived his children, Terry (Tammy) Draper and JoAnn (Jeremy) Nielson; grandchildren, Terry (Jessica) Draper Jr., Katie (Dustin) Hunt, Amber  Draper, Jacob Tappenden; five great-grandchildren; and brothers, Mervin (Angie) Draper, David  Draper, Steve Draper. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret "Peggy" Decker.

Marilyn was a graduate of the Battle Creek Central High School Class of 1955 and lived in Battle Creek most all her life. She married her loving husband, John Frederick Hall who preceded her in death in 1988. While her husband was in the Air Force, Marilyn joyfully worked the noon hour at Springfield Elementary School, and worked for Kellogg Cereal Company, The Bread Store, area Photo Booths, The Federal Center and Arlene’s Truck Stop, but considered her responsibilities as a Homemaker most fulfilling.
She was a very passionate woman of faith, strong in the Lord and past member of Olive Street Friends Church. Marilyn dearly loved her family, and enjoyed crafting of all kinds, gardening both flowers and vegetables, macrame, painting, wallpapering, decorating her home, vacation with family and spoiling her grandkids.
Marilyn is survived by four daughters, Tammy Jo (Gary) Knauss of Dowling, MI, Cindy Lou Vandeburg of Battle Creek, MI, Laura Ann Hall of Battle Creek, MI and Kathryn Janine (Dennis) Yesh of Colon, MI; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by granddaughter, April Renee Hall; brother, Alfred Wayne Corkins; sister, Glenna May NcNiel, nephew, Robert A Burghdoff.

Obituary Preview: Kathryn Dianne Perry-Matson, age 83, passed away peacefully on December 16th 2021 at the home of her eldest daughter in Battle Creek, Michigan after a short struggle with congestive heart failure.
She was born on August 8th, 1938 to James and Kathryn (Perry) Matson in Charlotte, Michigan.  She graduated from high school in Nashville, Michigan.  Kathryn retired from Hastings Manufacturing after 40 years of service.  She was married at the age of 21 and had three children.
Kathryn was very active in competitive sports in school, and continued into adulthood.  She competed in basketball, softball, and track & field, as well as archery with much success.
Besides spending time with her family, she enjoyed hobbies including gardening and fishing.  She was a very talented artist working with wood, but her passion was creating beauty from a piece of leather.  Kathryn also enjoyed watching men’s and women’s college ball games, with her favorite being women’s basketball.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her mother and father as well as her brothers James Perry Jr. and William Weinert.  She is survived by her brother Robert Perry & wife Trish Perry, brother Michael Weinert, son John D. Matson & wife Kelly Matson, daughter Kathryn J. Starks & husband Mark Starks, and daughter Robin Edson & husband Brent Anthony.
Kathryn is also survived by 8 grandchildren:  John & wife Christina Matson, Jerimiah & wife Annie Brand, Joshua & wife Nancy Brand, Duwayne & wife Casey Hunt, Devin & wife Emily Starks, Jerusalah & husband Trevor Starks-Jones, Kathryn E Matson & Kaitlyn S. Edson.
Also surving her are 14 great grandchildren including Jeremiah Brand Jr., Kaidyn & Locklyn Brand, October & Giovanni Matson, Chase Sheehan, Camryn Hunt, Lexi Starks, Iris & Adaline St.John, Ariana & Elena Jones, and Kathryn V. Heiss.

Joan will be sadly missed by those who knew her for her love of life and her caring selfless personality. She was an excellent cook and loved having family and friends over to enjoy her meals. Everyone was welcome at their, home and no one left hungry. Above all else, Joan loved her family with all her heart and always made sure they were taken care of in sickness and in health. She enjoyed the outdoors, going to Canada, lounging around the swimming pool, playing games on her tablet, and reading.
