He then sold the farm to his grandson and moved into Wadena where he lived with his wife until his passing. There wasn’t a day that went by where he didn’t feel compelled to share his wisdom with his daughters… which was passed on to his grandchildren…by him because he didn’t trust anyone else to do it right. He also instilled his taste of music in his daughters when they were young, often turning up the radio and telling them, “Now this is music!”. They didn’t agree with him, but now are very knowledgeable in music ranging from Sonny James, Charlie Rich, Charlie Pride, Ronnie Milsap, BJ Thomas and Abba.
He loved going for rides, playing poker at all family holidays, pulling tabs, doing his scratchers, and having a beer. He in fact taught his daughters to play poker with him before they were even in school, a tradition passed down to his grandchildren at the same age, and now his great granddaughter Myah who at 4 was old enough to play.
Rick loved animals, especially his dogs which have always had a special place in his heart. His current love was Chico a dog that came from a kill shelter in Texas.
Everyone who knew Rick, knew that he was truly one of a kind. He was opinionated and stubborn, had his ways and ideas about everything, and was not afraid to tell you just how it was… which for all of us makes his passing that much harder.
Survived by wife, Jean; Dog, Chico; daughters: Rhonda (Scott) Rude, Janine (Brian) Kern, Lora (Dale) Schmitz; grandchildren: Derrick (Caitlyn) Rude, Jake (Kristyn) Rude, Britta (Logan) Meyer, Kyle Kern, Emma, Beth, and Joey Schmitz; great-granddaughters: Myah and Ava Meyer, Sophia Rude, Baby Rude due in May; parents: Rhoda and Chuck Stinar; siblings: Steve (Rosie) Stinar, Mike (Delle) Stinar, Brad (Brenda) Stinar, Shari (Daryl) Mattson, and Michelle (Art) Schluttner; sisters-in-law: Carol (Dave) Miller, Sandy (Gary) Gould, and Robin (Tony) Carlstrom, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Joan Anderson - March 26, 1930 - October 26, 2017

Departed: 10/26/2017 (Wadena)
Obituary Preview: Joan Mae Kailer, 87, passed away peacefully in Eagle Bend, MN on Thursday, October 26, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born in Oak Park, Illinois on March 26, 1930 to Arthur and Hazel Kailer. She was raised in Mound, Minnesota and graduated high school from Maplewood Academy in 1948.
Joan met Vernon Leroy Anderson on a blind date. His proposal and her acceptance occurred over ice cream while attending the Maple Plain Seventh day Adventist Camp meeting. They were married in 1953.
Joan and Vernon started life as dairy farmers on his farm in Anoka, Minnesota. As a city girl that quickly grew into a farmer’s wife, Joan delivered the Anderson’s first child Steven Lee in December 1954 soon followed by Jeffrey Scott, Kenneth Ray, and Sylvia Joy.
Vernon and Joan’s commitment to their family and faith led them to a deep involvement in the Seventh Day Adventist community. This involvement led the family to Eagle Bend MN, Collegedale and eventually Crossville TN ending as empty nesters. Joan’s belief was that the Lord brought the family to each place so her children could meet their lifelong partners.
In 2014 the kids convinced Joan and Vernon to become snowbirds, summering in Eagle Bend MN with Jeff's family, and wintering with Sylvia's near Austin, Texas.
Life for Joan could be summed up in doing for others, particularly her children. Mom always made it fun by frequently hosting church activities; an afternoon trip to the lake, playing softball, going sledding or... whatever.
From early on, Joan pursued a relationship with God. This relationship translated into action, participating or leading in church activities. Joan was Head Sabbath School Superintendent, interspersed with leading in various children’s departments; facilitating Pathfinders and other such important activities.
Joan's love extended to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The love was reciprocal. Joan and Vernon were married 62 years before his passing in February of 2016.
