Jeffrey Lynn Roberts - January 02, 1952 - April 15, 2024

Departed: 04/15/2024 (Richmond)
Obituary Preview: Jeffrey Lynn Roberts, 72, of New Baltimore, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024, at Blue Water Hospice Home.
As we reflect on our father, alongside his friends, we can all attest to his hard-working nature. From Jeff’s childhood newspaper route, to his career as a locomotive engineer, to his passion for the outdoors, to gardening, and his woodworking projects—he completed them all from start to finish. His drive and determination is how he is remembered as the locomotive union president, when hard conversations needed to be had, he was the first to stand up and advocate for his peers. This also trickled into our home growing up. We had the largest garden on the street, and mostly ate organic growing up, before organic was a trend. Our best childhood home memories of a tire swing, personal bow hunting stands, trails for the three wheelers, and the best bonfire pit in town. Even if there was a new décor era, he would create what our mother imagined and it would be completed the following week. Jeff, David, and Rebecca could talk forever about hunting camps, fishing trips, late night “shining for deer” in West Branch, snowmobiling, and canoeing the Rifle River. Jeff will be remembered as a lifetime Michigan Bow Hunter and National Rifle Association Member.
Ultimately in the final days on earth, our dad told us he lived a full life. He loved talking about his first Harley Chopper, watching M.A.S.H., cheering for the Lions and Red Wings, and having as many “chocolate shakes” as he could drink. He also shared how proud he was of all three children and grandchildren. His last words to family were “I love you, too”. God speed dad.
Jeff is survived by his three children, Jeff (Rebecca Kinnee), Rebecca (Joe) Konarz, and David (Amanda) Roberts as well as seven grandchildren Noah, Jonah, Lily, and Luke Konarz and Josilyn, Victoria, and Finn Roberts.
At this time there are no services scheduled for Jeff. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Kaatz Funeral Directors, Richmond.
The following is copied from a hand written note from our dad, found after he met Jesus. Togetherness
Death is nothing at all. I have slipped away into the next room. Whatever we were to each other, we still are. Call me by my old familiar name. Speak to me in the same easy way you always have. Laugh, as we always laughed, at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it always was. There is absolute unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of your mind because I am out of your sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is past. Nothing has been lost. One brief moment and all will be what is was before—only better. Infinitely happier, we will be one, together forever. - Anonymous Author Love Always – Dad XOXO For more information and tribute wall visit: kaatzfunerals.com

Katherine Marie Giangrande - January 23, 1933 - January 28, 2024

Departed: 01/28/2024 (Richmond)
Obituary Preview: Katherine Marie Giangrande, 91, of Richmond, MI, born Katherine Marie Hall on January 23, 1933 in Detroit, MI to John J. and Katherine M. Hall, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2024. Her husband Fernando Giangrande (aka Fred Grande), whom she married on October 2, 1954, predeceased her. They were married for nearly 55 years. Fred and Kathy had four children: Patricia Giangrande, Karen Giangrande, Carl Giangrande, and Laura (Giangrande) Steiner; and two grandchildren: Justi (Giangrande) Hill and Joshua Steiner; and her dog Pepper, who all survive her, and who will forever miss her kind and loving ways and her sharp, dry wit (yes, even Pepper.)
Kathy worked alongside Fred and her children, keeping the books and running the office, in the family business. She was an excellent, meticulous bookkeeper and she could use an “adding machine” without looking at her fingers! She was intelligent and well read. Kathy always enjoyed learning and she tried to pass that enthusiasm along to her children. She raised them to believe that they could do anything they wanted to do. She was a spectacularly kind, fun, patient, loving and supportive wife, mother and grandmother. All of her children and grandchildren have fond memories of her great wit, and what are now “classic” one-liners. Karen has a wonderful memory of being in the passenger seat of the 1923 vintage auto that Kathy was driving in the Richmond Good Ole Days parade (Fred was driving the Packard) back in 1980 or so, when Kathy encountered a “parade-director” who was lining up the cars for the parade on the side-streets and wanted Kathy in a space she had just passed by about 10-feet. He asked Kathy, “can you back the car up?” To which she replied without missing a beat “I don’t know – why don’t you get behind me and I’ll see.” And just a week or so before she passed, a nurse reported that she had wanted to encourage Kathy to eat, and thus she told Kathy that “Pepper is coming for a visit soon and she would want you to eat something and be strong.” To which Kathy replied with a wry, doubting smile “oh – and Pepper told you that, did she?”
She and Fred loved to travel, and they took many trips over the years. When their children were young-ish, they took them on many motorhome trips around the country and into Canada and Mexico. Their children continue to reminisce and laugh about those trips. Kathy loved exploring new places, and visiting both national parks and historical sites. After Fred’s passing, Kathy went on countless weekend trips with her children and grandchildren. She was always up for a road-trip and new adventures! Her children and grandchildren always enjoyed her company. She was always happy to see her grandchildren, and she was always enthusiastic about picnicking and building a bonfire with them. She had (as did all her family and friends who were there) an absolute ball with the grandkids on her 65th birthday – where everyone, including her, sledded down the hill and played in the snow, and had hot dogs and birthday cake at the picnic table!
Kathy – who was given the nickname “Honey” by her father - had one sibling, her brother Jack Hall (deceased) whom she adored, and he reciprocated. She was forever known to Jack and his wife Helen, as “Honey,” and to their five children as “Aunt Honey.” They would tell you that the moniker fit most assuredly. Every Thanksgiving holiday of her life (and every Easter and Christmas also while her children were young) she and Fred and children celebrated with the Halls.
She loved her family more than words can convey, and was forever saddened by the tragic loss of her brother Jack in 1985. She missed his brotherly teasing and love. She was deeply saddened again by the loss of her nephew Brian in 2020, and her nephew Tony (on Fred’s side) in 2017.
We know she is overjoyed to be reunited with her husband, parents, brother, nephews and all the dear family and friends who predeceased her. But those who called her mom, grandma, Aunt Honey, Aunt Kathy, or friend will miss her warmth, wit and love every single day.
The family honors the memory of Katherine and invites you to visit and share memories Thursday, February 1, 2024, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Richmond, with rosary devotion at 2:30 p.m. Rite of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Fr. Kishore Beezam will officiate. Entombment will be in Richmond Cemetery.
In Lieu of Flower, memorial donations can be made to Michigan Humane Society or St. Augustine Catholic Church, Richmond. For more information and tribute wall visit: kaatzfunerals.com
