Duane grew up in the Center Point Community attending school there through the 4th grade and graduating from Wilburton High School with the class of 1959. Duane played high school football but his passion was always in agriculture and he began judging livestock in FFA and this passion remained in him throughout the remainder of his life.
Upon graduation from high school, Duane attended Eastern Oklahoma A & M College, transferring and graduating from Oklahoma State University in 1963 with a degree in Animal Science. He was a member of the OSU livestock judging team that won many first-place awards across the nation.
Duane's first extension job was in Perry, Oklahoma where he had great success with his livestock judging team. Duane next became the county extension agent in Altamont, Kansas working extensively with the youth 4-H club in the judging and showing events. Under Duane's leadership, these teams traveled and participated in multiple county and state events winning many prestigious awards.

Duane was inducted into the EOSC Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2021 for his contributions to Eastern while he was employed there. He was awarded the master breeder award from OSU in 2021 in recognition of his exemplary professional and personal accomplishment, and especially for his leadership in beef cattle breeding and improvement of multiple breeds of cattle. Phyllis Diane Dunlap - June 09, 1956 - January 09, 2024

Departed: 01/09/2024 (Wilburton)
Obituary Preview: Phyllis Diane Dunlap
Things to know about Phyllis; she loved driving, she loved the army, and she loved people.
Phyllis Diane Dunlap, 67, was born June 9th, 1956, in San Antonio and we sadly lost her on January 9th, 2024. She was living in Hartshorne, close to her daughter at the time. Her true home was always wherever her daughter was. Phyllis passed like she lived her life, surrounded by the people she loved. She was in the army as a paramedic and after that, she drove a truck with her husband for 15 years. She then became a stay-at-home mother. She later decided to better herself and returned to school, graduating from EOSC in accounting in 2017. She had always been great with numbers.
Lighter things to know about Phyllis were that she loved the movie Independence Day, her favorite color was Maroon, her favorite beverage was coffee (specifically from McDonald’s), and she collected all things patriotic. Her favorite song was Forever and Ever Amen and she was the sassiest woman you could have ever met. She loved making jokes, baking bread, and attending marching band competitions to support the Hartshorne Miners Marching Band.
She is survived by her only daughter Lacy Dunlap, but she was loved by all her ‘kiddos’ or in her words her ‘pain in the necks’: Shirlene Green and Rocky Hamilton, Lily Moore, Heaven Crossley, Dallas Green, Olivia Green and David Carpenter.
She is joining her mother Claudia Hudgins and the love of her life, Andy Dunlap. Phyllis was a wonderful mom and a wonderful person to be around, and she will be missed but we know she will be happy to be without pain and satisfied that she lived her life to the fullest and with all the laughter. We will miss you, Mom! I light a candle to bless this day. With the Splendor of fire, the freedom of the wind, the stability of the earth, and the depth of the sea. Sun and moon grant us birth and give us life, death, and rest. For we shall meet again once our souls leave this world. Guide me through the night, and the sunlit days. Merry part and merry meet to soul and heart, blessed be. - Unknown
