Frances J Swift - September 23, 1962 - March 28, 2024

Departed: 03/28/2024 (Penfield)
Obituary Preview: We are heartbroken to share that our dearest Fran died suddenly and unexpectedly on the evening of March 28, 2024. She will always be remembered as a cherished sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Fran’s life can be summed up in three simple words: faith, family, and friends. These were the cornerstones of Fran’s 61 years on earth, and from these sources, she drew tremendous strength and determination.
From the day she was born, Fran experienced, what would seem to be, insurmountable challenges. On September 23, 1962, a little chubby cheeked, red-haired baby girl came into the world saddled with multiple physical and developmental challenges. She struggled just to draw a breath at the beginning, and, for a less hardy baby, that might have been the end of the story. But Fran was a fighter. She fought adversity every day and rarely complained about the pain. From her battle with cancer to the multiple surgeries on her heart, kidneys, and hips, she never gave up. She derived great joy from telling everyone how many years she had been cancer free. She had proudly made it to the 12-year mark.
Fran’s battle to achieve personal independence was a daily struggle. All she ever wanted was to be treated as a non-disabled person, a person of value, and someone who could be of service to others less fortunate. We learned many lessons from Fran over the years, but the most important one was to never give up. It was rare to see Fran without a big smile on her face, and you could count on her for a warm greeting and a bear hug. She never forgot your name, your address, your birthday, your anniversary, the names of your kids and grandkids, and, most importantly, your phone number.
Forty years ago, Fran and her beloved father, Paul Swift, joined a new parish called The Church of the Transfiguration in Pittsford. She loved to recount the story of that first Christmas season attending mass in a barn while the new church was being built, “just like how Jesus was born in the stable,” she reflected. Fran did everything she could to help the new church become established, helping staff with vacation bible school, serving as a greeter before mass, bringing cookies for bake sales, donating money to support the missionary work of the church, buying Easter lilies and Christmas poinsettias to adorn the altar. Her devotion to her church family was legendary. She even had a designated seat at the front of the church where she and her dad would sit every Sunday. Everyone knew where they could find Fran and they stopped by the pew to greet her and get one of those famous bear hugs. Fran’s favorite employment by far were her years at DDSO Metro Services where she worked as a receptionist at the front desk, greeting people, answering the phone, and filing paperwork. Everyone commented on her welcoming smile and cheery disposition. She loved sharing the news of each paycheck with family members. Those conversations would begin with her asking, “Are you sitting down? Can you guess how much my paycheck was this time?”
There are many life lessons learned by those who got to know and love Fran. She taught us how to look at the world through child-like eyes and thus experience greater joy. She taught us to never give up when confronting obstacles, no matter how tempting that might be. She taught us to find deeper meaning in our lives by giving generously of our time and resources. And, lastly, to be sure to make room for dessert, especially if it’s chocolate.
Fran is predeceased by her parents, Paul and Phyllis Swift, and nephew, Jason Belodoff. She is survived by her siblings: Marianne Swift, Cecile (Jeffrey) Lippitt, Paul (Sue) Edison-Swift, Marcy (Mike) Cooley, and Jan (Kim Barhite) Simpson, and Kim Gertsner. She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews: Lisa (Kevin) and Adam (Danielle), Annie (Sean), Rachel (Matt) and Leah (Billy), Monica (Justin) and Matt (Kaila) and Mark, Matt (Kelly) and Nicholas (Jenna). She loved being great-auntie to Walter, Sally, Austyn, Brantley, Hudson, Kyler, Elliot, Jesse, Gabriel and Julia. Fran is also survived by many cousins including her special cousin, Sister Grace Swift, as well as countless friends, especially Margie Benza and members of her Transfiguration family.
Fran is finally free of her many earthly burdens. Now she will have a well-deserved rest in the eternal embrace of her family in heaven.
Donations in Fran’s memory can be made to the parish family that she loved, Church of the Transfiguration, 50 West Bloomfield, Pittsford, New York 14534. Please note “in memory of Fran Swift” on the memo line. Or you can choose to donate to Fran’s favorite national charity, 46 Climbs by visiting 46climbs.com.
On Thursday, April 4, join family and friends at Fran’s wake from 9:30am -11:00 am at the Church of the Transfiguration followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am, Rev. Michael J. Bausch presiding. A luncheon reception will be held in the Parish Life Center following mass. Burial will be private. For more information, visit the parish website at transfigurationpittsford.org

Departed: 03/13/2024 (Penfield)
Obituary Preview: It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Tae Byung (“Tab”) Whang on March 14, 2024, just four days past his 94th birthday.
Tab was born in Pyongyang, Korea in 1930. He spent most of his childhood under the Japanese occupation of the Korean peninsula and spoke fluent Japanese. He was the youngest of four children.
In 1950, at the age of 20, with the threat of communism spreading across the north of Korea, Tab escaped to the south before the border closed. There, he enlisted in the South Korean Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. Tab was the only son of a minister and spent a short time in seminary, but it was during his time in the military that Tab decided he wanted to become a doctor.
In 1955, with the generous help of Dr. Ross Culpepper and his wife Olive of Charleston, WV, Tab was able to come to the United States. He graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1957 and was subsequently accepted to the University of Cincinnati Medical School. During his internship at Strong Memorial Hospital in 1963, he met Josephine Emy and they married a year later.
Tab was an anesthesiologist for more than 30 years and worked at Strong Memorial, Rochester General and Park Ridge Hospitals. He worked tirelessly for his family, often being on call and having to leave the house in the middle of the night. But regardless of his schedule, he always found time to attend his children’s music recitals, orchestra performances and soccer games. He retired in 1999. In his retirement Tab enjoyed traveling abroad and was an avid skier, tennis player and swimmer. He also earned a black belt in Isshinryu karate. Additionally, Tab enjoyed giving back to his community by volunteering as an English teacher to many Asian immigrants.
A selfless, loving and compassionate man, Tab will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Josephine; his son Theodore; his daughter Joanna Thiagarajan and her husband Krishna; his son Kenneth and his wife Anne Marie; his daughter Christina Solak and her husband Anton; his six grandchildren, Mia, Hannah, Jason, Celyn, Priyanka and William; and his three nieces and his nephew and their families living in Korea and Australia.
A memorial service for Tab will be held on Friday, March 22 at 1:00 pm at Third Presbyterian Church, 4 Meigs Street, Rochester, NY 14607. Tab and Josephine have been active members of Third Presbyterian Church since 1964, a place that has always been near and dear to their hearts. The Whang family appreciates your love and support during this difficult time and ask that donations to Third Presbyterian Church or the Rochester Korean Presbyterian Church (2363 Pinnacle Rd, Rush, NY 14543) be made in lieu of flowers.

Patricia A. Condon - March 11, 1934 - March 11, 2024

Departed: 03/11/2024 (Penfield)
Obituary Preview: Patricia Alexander Condon passed away on March 11, 2024 shortly after celebrating her 90th birthday.
Born in NY City on March 11, 1934, to parents Charles and Susan Alexander, Tricia was the youngest of five sisters. They lived on a farm in Darien, CT, where she fondly recalled playing, and perhaps creating a little mischief, with her sisters in the huge hay barns on the property. Tricia graduated from Darien Highschool and worked in administration and sales at Lord and Taylor in New York, Hughes Aircraft in Tucson and Perkin-Elmer in Norwalk. She met Richard (Dick) Condon while looking for a lost contact lens at a Perkin-Elmer Christmas party. They married in 1958, raised four children together and lived in several states, including CT, IL, NH, MA, VT, RI and FL.
Whether it was behind the wheel of a motorhome on family trips, at the helm of a sailboat off the New England coast or on the ski slopes in the Alps, Tricia embraced the adventure, but more importantly, she facilitated quality experiences with friends and family. She once declared she would never have a dog, but ended up whole heartedly welcoming Muffin, Charlotte, Phoebe, Dakota and Bernie into the family over the years.
Tricia had a passion for the visual arts. In 1995, she purchased and curated a collection of 150 paintings by artist Arthur Lingquist and opened galleries in Warren, VT, Gloucester, MA and Jamestown, RI to showcase these works and those of other New England artists. Her galleries were aptly named “For the Love of Art”. In 2003, she and Dick moved to Punta Gorda, FL, where she was a board member for the Punta Gorda Visual Arts Center and dedicated countless hours on the the decorating committee at the Isles Yacht Club. Her attention to visual details, perhaps unnoticed by some, was integral to enriching the aesthetic of the spaces she encountered. This also applied to the homes she lived in, the outfits she wore and even the meals she prepared for family and guests. If Trish was involved, it had to look good and it did!
In 2020, she moved to Rochester, NY, to live with her daughter, Sue, and she returned to the old red barns and rolling landscapes of her childhood, as depicted in the scenes of the Lingquist paintings with which she had such a connection. There, she participated in the bustling daily life of four generations, including three great grandchildren.
Though she was small in stature, Tricia had a grand voice and vision of her own. She enriched the visual and personal experience for those who interacted with her or the canvas of her craft. She will be missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Susan; sisters, Carol, Susan and Mary Jo; husband, Dick; and son, Richard.
She is survived by her sister, Catherine; children, Susan, James and Peter; grandchildren, Brianna Timmothy, Benjamin and Lauren; and great grandchildren Riley, Declan and Ashlyn.

Departed: 02/15/2024 (Penfield)
Obituary Preview: Beverly Baker Heberger, 76 of Irondequoit NY, passed away on February 15, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Bev touched many lives and made countless friends along the way. Bev had a true zest for life and believed in living her life to the fullest. She had a fun and festive personality who loved to spend time with her family and friends. Bev had a gift for making friends easily – she was an empathic and excellent listener who truly cared about others. If you were Bev’s friend, you were her family! Bev had a tough inner strength and moral compass which helped to guide her (and her children) through life. Bev enjoyed music and dancing – especially Irish music, and was thrilled when she found that she had an Irish background, thanks to an Ancestry search! Bev loved to sing (even if it was off-key!). Everyone who knew Bev knew of her affection for chocolate, and she enjoyed Blizzards at DQ with her dear friend, Joanie, or her granddaughter, Mollie. She also enjoyed a good gin and tonic now and then.
Bev and her husband, Mike, enjoyed a true and great love. They built a wonderful life and home together, filled with a loving family and endless memories of laughter and togetherness. Bev was truly the backbone of her family. Bev’s favorite place in the world was in their beautiful backyard garden, lovingly maintained by Mike to bring joy to Bev’s life. Bev also loved her chimes and put up/took down over 90 of them on the back patio every year.
Bev worked for 25 years at St. Joseph’s Villa, then enjoyed her years as a fitness instructor and Silver Sneakers teacher at multiple locations around Rochester from 1999 through 2019.
Beverly is survived by her loving husband, Mike Heberger, and their dog, Haley; her daughters, Tracy Nalewalski, Wendy Unell (Sean McLaughlin), and Becky (Patrick) Meyers; her sons, Michael G. Heberger and Louis Page; her grandchildren, Daniel (Amanda) Nalewalski, Mollie Meyers, Nicholas Meyers, Katlynn Townsend and Melissa (Bill) Sagin, and her great grandchildren, Lily Nalewalski and Vera, Stella and Ozzy Sagin; her brother, Frank (Roberta) Chichelli; and sister-in-law, Ann Marie Cerza (Cliff). Bev is also survived by a wide and life-long network of many dear friends.
Bev was predeceased by her parents, Pauline Wyffels Potts and Martin Baker; her in-laws, Donald and Ida Heberger, and her son-in-law, Drew Nalewalski.
Beverly’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Brian Yirinec, Barbie and all of the team at the Pluta Cancer Center who were so kind and supportive of her for many years. A special thank you to the staff and volunteers at the Shepherd Home in Penfield who provided kindness and care in Beverly’s final days which allowed Mike to graciously focus on being her husband rather than caregiver during the last two days of her life.
