Gladys T. Feldman - January 29, 1940 - December 05, 2021

Obituary Preview: Gladys Theresa DeFazio Feldman, a long-time resident of Wayne County and Canaan Township, died peacefully at her home in Waymart on Sunday afternoon, December 5, 2021, surrounded by a loving family.
Gladys, daughter of Frank E. DeFazio and Gladys E. Derr DeFazio is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harry.
Gladys was born January 29, 1940 in Archbald, Pennsylvania. Due to her father’s mining accident, the family relocated to a small farm off Bear Swamp Road in Cherry Ridge. It was there that she attended Rickard’s School with her five siblings and cherished her lifelong friendships from those days.
Prior to Gladys’ 1957 Honesdale H.S. graduation, she worked part-time as a checker at Honesdale’s newly opened Acme Market. It was there that Gladys met her future husband, Harry, who also worked a part-time job as a bagger.
In February 1958, Harry joined the Marines and was stationed at El Toro, Santa Ana, CA. In late October 1958, Harry came home on leave and was met by Gladys at The Scranton Bus Depot. It was on the way home to Cherry Ridge that the already engaged couple decided to marry and were wed on November 1, 1958.
After a two-week honeymoon, Harry reported back to California and Gladys remained in Pennsylvania until Harry returned for her in the spring of 1959, at which time they drove cross country to California.
Years later, after raising three children, Gladys returned to school at the Mercedian School of Practical Nursing, Scranton, PA. earning her diploma in 1979. Gladys was employed as an LPN at St. Joseph’s/Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale for 22 years.
Gladys is survived by three children: Elizabeth A. Derrick and husband, Ronald, Waymart; Daniel F. Feldman and wife, Seowyean, Waymart; Lorene A. Feldman, Honesdale; and by grandchildren Daniel Feldman and wife Kachiri, Carbondale; Michael Contorno, Fort Myers, FL.; Matthew Feldman and wife, Jamiela, Waymart; Jason Hunter, Damascus; Christopher Derrick and wife Raquelle, Hurley, NY; Andrea Koch and partner Brielle Gall, Philadelphia; Lindsey Koch and Sarah Koch of Honesdale; thirteen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
Gladys was predeceased by two brothers, Frank E. DeFazio and Ralph R. DeFazio, and survived by siblings James DeFazio and wife Doris, Madisonville, PA; Janice Mistishin and husband, John, Waymart; Darlene Harding and husband, Albert, Stockholm, NJ; foster brothers Peter Nelli, Watertown, NY; Gilbert Mulrooney and partner Sam Babbish, Largo, FL and Jeff Gamble and wife Jocel, Clifford, PA.
A public viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8 at Jenkins-Howell Funeral Home, Inc. Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street Waymart, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 242 Carbondale Road, Waymart, PA at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 9. Everyone attending is asked to go directly to the church.
Interment will follow at Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart.

Christy Ann Strange - May 18, 1943 - December 05, 2021

Obituary Preview: Christy Ann Strange, 78, of Virginia City, Nevada and Aldenville, PA, passed away after a lengthy illness, peacefully, and with her daughter by her side on Sunday morning December 5, 2021 at Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness.
Born May 18, 1943 in Port Chester, New York, she was the daughter of the late George W. Strange Jr. and Ruth Ella (Slater) Strange. Christy Ann believed strongly in education and used her Masters of Library Science from Drexel University to run the Nevada Storey County (Nevada) Library system throughout the 1980s and 90s until her retirement. She was an avid traveler near and far and applied her Anthropology undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania State University to observe the many cultures of the world. Her keen interest in local family history encouraged her to donate many family items to the Wayne County Historical Society collections. As an environmentalist, she was a member of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, and completed the Penn State Master Gardeners Program. She educated and helped local landowners become better stewards of their land through implementation of best forest practices on her Red Shale Farm Forest in Prompton, PA.
Christy Ann is survived by her daughter, Corie Naugle and her husband Robert of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren Justus and Alexus; and many Slater, Strange, and Bowen cousins.

Inez M. Nolan - April 04, 1921 - December 04, 2021

Obituary Preview: Inez (Gregg) Nolan, 100 years old, Aldenville, PA passed away suddenly, Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Geisinger CMC. She was the widow of Gerald Nolan who passed away on February 15, 1974. They were married June 27, 1942.
Inez was born April 4, 1921 in Galilee, PA to Thomas Durham Gregg and Mary (Mamie) Loy Gregg. She was a graduate of Damascus High School, class of 1939.
She was employed in various garment factories in Honesdale, Hawley, and Waymart and also at a laundromat/dry cleaners in California for a year. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and needlepoint until arthritis set in. She was a very independent, strong-willed person. You hardly ever heard her complain. She drove until the age of 98 and mowed lawn until the age of 96. She truly missed being able to be outside doing things.
Inez was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Aldenville Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Louis Nolan and companion, Serina Mitchell; daughter, Shirley Brown, and daughter-in-law, Leona Nolan; grandsons, Edward Nolan and wife Judy, James Nolan and wife Brenda, David Nolan and wife Janet, and Leroy Brown; great-grandchildren, Gina Nolan, Kyle Nolan, Shaun Nolan, and Evan Brown; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Thomas Nolan; son-in-law, Donald Brown; grandson, Randy Nolan; and sisters, Helen Bartolomeo and Ruth Sheard.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 10:30 AM in the Jenkins-Howell Funeral Home, Inc. Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA with Pastor William Mountain officiating.
Friends and family may visit on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 4-7 PM in the funeral home.
Interment will be on Friday in St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery, Fair Avenue, Honesdale.

Born December 7, 1931 in Hughesville, PA she was the daughter of the late LaRue and Edna (Huntsinger) Lore.
Dutch graduated from Hughesville High School in 1949.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Beverly "Jane" Hartman and Deborah ”Lee" Barrett.
She leaves behind her children: Cynthia Whitmoyer, Howard "Bud" Hartman and his wife Bonnie, Benjamin Hartman and his wife Susan and Robin Hartman; brothers: Wayne Lore, Pete Lore and his wife Grace, and Brigg Lore and his wife Janet; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and countless friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 5, at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Hollisterville, 23 Pond Road, Moscow.
Friends and family may visit on Sunday from 2:00 through the time of the service in the church.
Burial will be private in Pine Grove Cemetery, South Sterling.

Born October 8, 1963 in Hancock, New York, he was the son of Ellen (Hillriegel) Kraft of Beach Lake and the late Allen Kraft.
Andee grew up in Hankins, New York and graduated from Delaware Valley Central School in Callicoon. He was self-employed and owned and operated a local lawn care business. Andee enjoyed spending time outdoors; he loved camping and fishing and riding his motorcycle around the countryside. He was a jokester and loved to make people laugh. Andee will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Andee is also survived by three children, Sharrie Kraft of Lititz, PA, Camden Kraft of Beach Lake, and Calie Natal and her husband Micah of Ephrata, PA; a brother, Allen Kraft, Jr. and his wife Linda, and a sister, Alynn Van Pelt.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 1:00 PM in the Beach Lake Free Methodist Church, 107 Milanville Road, Beach Lake, PA 18405.
Friends and family may visit on Thursday from 12-1 PM in the church.
Burial will follow in Callicoon Cemetery, Callicoon, NY on Thursday.

Antonette Terry - June 14, 1925 - November 14, 2021

Obituary Preview: Antonette Bendyk Terry, 96, of Pleasant Mount, Pennsylvania entered into eternal rest peacefully on Sunday morning, November 14, 2021 at home with family by her side. Daughter of the late Peter and Catherine Hutnyk Bendyk, she was born on June 14, 1925, at home in Pleasant Mount. After graduating from Pleasant Mount Vocational High School class of 1944, Antonette continued with her education by graduating from the Honesdale Commercial Business School. Employment followed in Newark, New Jersey as a "Temp" for General Electric Corp. She married the love of her life, Walter J. Terry on May 28, 1949 in Saint Basil Orthodox Church, Simpson, PA. Toni, as referred to by family and friends, worked on their dairy farm in Pleasant Mount and spent her years making a warm and loving home for her husband and seven children. Toni's generosity was well known as she welcomed family, friends and neighbors at any time into her home. She enjoyed gardening and would spend summers canning, freezing fruits and vegetables and making fruit jellies. In her spare time she enjoyed polka and square dancing, crocheting, sewing, quilting, cooking, reading and writing letters. Later Toni joined the Pleasant Mount Women's Bowling League sponsored by Agway and was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary. Toni also volunteered for the Pleasant Mount Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and was certified in first aid. She was also a member of Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Union Dale, PA and served on its council. She did anything she could for her church to include chief cook for the church's annual dinner/dance functions. After 29 years of marriage Toni was preceded in death by her husband who passed on March 6, 1979.After Toni retired from farming, she wintered for over 30 years in Lake Worth, Florida, where she took classes in quilting, computer operations and stained glass making. She made many friends in Florida. For several years she gladly accepted the responsibilities of Secretary in her condo homeowners association and volunteered twenty hours per week at the Lake Worth Senior Citizen Center Thrift Shop. Survivors include her children, John of Wellsboro, PA, Catherine and her husband Denis of Basking Ridge, NJ; Walter and his wife Brenda of Pleasant Mount; Dorothea and her husband Robert of Pleasant Mount; Annette and her husband Paul of Lafayette Hill, PA; Martha and her husband Jack of Lansdale, PA; and Peter of Pleasant Mount. Grandchildren are Jessica, Andrew, Megan, Adam, Jacob, Amelia, Amanda, Rachel, Rebecca, Sarah, Walter, Stephen, Benjamin, Jonathon, Joseph, Matthew, Bridget, Valerie and Thomas, several great-grandchildren, Godchild Barbara and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Stephen, John, Walter, Paul and Joseph, and her sisters, child Mary, Anna, and Helen. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 16 at 10 AM at Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 2112 Belmont Turnpike, Union Dale, PA. Visitation will be from 9-10 AM in the church on Tuesday. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Pleasant Mount, PA. In compliance with PA guidelines, wearing of masks and social distancing are required during all services.

George D. Knickerbocker - July 08, 1946 - November 13, 2021

Obituary Preview: George Knickerbocker of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, died on November 13, 2021, at the age of 75, but his loyalty to his family and community and trademark stubbornness will not be forgotten.He was born on July 8, 1946, in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest son of the late Frank D. Knickerbocker and Doris Arthur Knickerbocker. Lovingly known as Pop to his family, he worked for the local water company for 14 years before taking a leap of faith in 1983 and opening Knickerbocker Painting and KML Taxidermy. He was always pointing out all of the beautiful homes of Honesdale that he painted and took pride in his Taxidermy business named after his three beautiful daughters Kari, Marci, and Lori.George was a proud Navy Seabees Veteran serving from 12, November 1965 - 11, May 1969. He was stationed in Rhode Island Merganser. During his military career, he spent time in New Zealand, the South Pole, and Chu Lai, Vietnam alongside some of his lifetime friends including the late Bud Jennings. He noted his appreciation and friendship with Lynn Simons who always made the trip to visit him any time he made it back to base in Rhode Island. In the early years, he was a die-hard drag racer with his lifelong friend Bob Reisch. On occasion, you could see him getting pulled over by the state police testing out his souped-up Super Bee on Grandview Ave by B and B Dodge.He was honored to be a Past Master of the Masons and a member of the Shriners. He served the Central United Methodist Church as a Lead Usher for many years and later enjoyed the simplicity of the intimate Sunday services of Smith Hill United Methodist Church. He was a seasoned outdoorsman, hobby photographer with his good friend Dave Sote, chili cookoff champion with his buddy Jeff Hiller, and retirement cooking connoisseur. His kitchen appliance of choice hands down will always be his air fryer. He took great pride in keeping his trucks immaculate and always freshly washed. In the summers you could catch him riding his motorcycle and in the winters he'd be staring at it in the comfort of his heated shop. Most recently he found daily enjoyment in his chats with his brother Art and good buddy Bill Ripple. George leaves behind his faithful wife and caregiver of 50 years, Susan Mulally Knickerbocker. His brother and sister-in-law, Art and Sharon Knickerbocker. George and Sue were grateful to share three daughters who grew their family with 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Todd and Kari Canfield with their five children- Kaelin, Gavin, Olivia, Lauren, and Madison, one son-in-law- Ethan, and granddaughter- Charlotte. Jerry and Marci Jones with their two children, Alexa and Samuel. Lori Knickerbocker with her two children, Emma and Evan, and one son-in-law, Dakota. George also leaves behind his steadfast lapdog, Princess Daisy. Also left behind are his brother-in-law's and their families, Dennis and Danielle Mulally with their children Joey and Anique, and Dale and Carolyn Pepper. Niece RickiLynn Altemier Derrick and family. He was preceded in death by his in-laws Gerard and Ruth Pepper, sister-in-law Linda Altemier, and nephew Scott Gavin. A visitation and funeral services for friends and family will be held at the Smith Hill United Methodist Church, 285 Smith Hill Road, Honesdale, on Friday, November 19th, 2021 with Rev. Lloyd Canfield officiating. The visitation will begin at 9:30 am with the funeral to follow at 11 am with Masonic Services in the church on Friday. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Smith Hill Cemetery on Friday.

The Chyle Family wants to extend their deepest gratitude to the staffs of Bethany Village and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their loving care. The daughter of the late Wilbert H. and Mary (Adams) Dakey, she was born in Archbald on April 9, 1932. Jean graduated from Honesdale High School on June 13, 1950. The following year, on January 3, 1951, she married James H. Chyle Jr. James preceded her in death on August 20, 1977. She later married Kenneth Anderson on January 24, 1987 until his death on March 19, 1999. Jean was a member of the Prompton Community United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Laurel Chapter #67 Order of the Eastern Star in Waymart. Jean was a clerk in the Wayne County Courthouse for many years before retirement. She also enjoyed many years of round and square dancing with both Jim and Ken. Jean is survived by two sons, William Chyle, and his wife Norita of State College, PA, and Jack Chyle, and his wife Ella of Cold Springs; grandchildren Anna Marie Chyle Costlow (David) Lauren Chyle, Nathaniel Chyle, Jessica Chyle Freidenstine (Brian), Jimmie Ann Chyle Fries (Max), Jason Chyle (Kyndra), Jacob Chyle (Ashley), Jackie Marie Chyle Cosgrove (Bryan), 13 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law Marjorie Dakey of Steene. She was also preceded in death by her sister Ruth Poloncic in 2007, and her brother Willard Dakey in 2014. Graveside Funeral Services will be private for the family, in the Aldenville Cemetery with Pastor Wendy D'Agostino officiating.

Obituary Preview: Richard E. Baginski, 70, of Lake Ariel, PA, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, after his battle with pancreatic cancer. His beloved wife, the former Gail L. Cornwell, survives him. The son of the late Leon R. and Edith (Brandt) Baginski, was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 09, 1951.Richard was a member of Canaan Bible Chapel. He was also a Computer Repair Technician that was gifted in his ability to repair and understand all aspects of Information Technology. He was a graduate Severna Park High School, Severna Park, MD, Class of 1969 and also had the privilege of attending his 50th Class Reunion a short time ago. He is survived by his daughter, Andrea, and his two sisters, Betty and Carolyn.Richard was preceded in death by his son, Erich Christian and his brother, Robert. His joys in life were his relationship with our Lord, his Family, his German Heritage, Fly Fishing and Art of Bonsai. Rich loved Gail and Andrea with all his heart and will be greatly missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elsie B. (Rollison) Burdick. Born March 3, 1930 in Wurtsboro, New York, he was the son of the late Franklin and Mabel (Clift) Burdick. Dick moved to Waymart with his family when he was five years old, and was a graduate of Waymart High School. He was an expert carpenter all his life and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing along with being an excellent father and husband. Dick loved to travel and had many memorable experiences. He was well known for his problem solving abilities and his creativity. Among his many talents in carpentry, Dick was best known for building many beautiful kitchens and homes throughout his life. He is survived by five children, Rick Burdick and Chris, Linda Barnett and Dan, Donnie Burdick and Donna, Brenda Tritt and Ken, and Alan Burdick and Dawn; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray Burdick, and a sister, Marge Beckwith. Dick was also preceded in death by his son, Roger Burdick, his sister, Doris Beckwith and brother-in-law Don, and his brother and sister-in-law Bob & MaryAn Burdick, and sister-in-law, Arlene. Obituary Preview: Joyce Slish, 75, of Beach Lake passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at home. She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Gary Slish. They were married on September 9, 1967. Born July 26, 1946 in Rochester, New York, she was the daughter of the late Herbert "Roy" and Dorothy (Shantz) Goodrich. Joyce graduated from Rochester Business Institute and was a medical secretary for Wayne Memorial Hospital and Women's Health Care in Honesdale for many years. She was a member of the Beach Lake Free Methodist Church, and loved working with the children's ministry, and also served on the hospitality committee. Joyce had a green thumb, and loved to plant and care for the beautiful flowers around her home. Always ready to host and care for others, she enjoyed the company of friends and family. Joyce blessed many others with countless gatherings, pool parties, picnics, campfires, and shopping trips. Her faith, and her family were of utmost importance to her. She loved and cared for each and every person she met, and will always be remembered in our hearts.In addition to her husband, she is also survived by two daughters: Jennifer Morgan, and her husband Tim of Cherry Ridge, and Tanya Turner and her husband Brian of East Greenwich, Rhode Island; four grandchildren: Molly and Mariah Morgan, and Cody and Benjamin Turner; her sister, Marilyn Rosa; brother, Greg Goodrich and his wife Tammie; and "sister" Elizabeth Burpee and her husband Bob. Obituary Preview: John K. Lowe, 83, of Beach Lake, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 18, 2021 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, after an illness.The son of the late Rev. William G. Lowe and June E. (Lyons) Lowe, John was born on November 1, 1937 in Creekville, Kentucky. He married the love of his life, Betty Grace (Davis) Lowe, and they raised their family in Beach Lake. Betty preceded him in death in 2019. John was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He served the community for more than 40 years both as a member of the Wayne Highlands School Board, and the Wayne-Pike Child Evangelism Fellowship. He retired after 33 years of serving as a Vice President and Loan Officer of a local bank in Sullivan County, New York. Following retirement, he enjoyed driving school bus for Wayne Highlands for 13 years; and he was a Volunteer Fire Police member for 14 years. John was a faithful member of the Tabernacle Bible Church. He leaves behind his children, Kevin (Colleen); Karen (Gary); Ellen (Steve); Susan (Peter); and Steve; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Hailey; son, John Jr.; two daughter-in-laws, Myrta and Chassidy.John will be greatly missed by the lives he has touched over the years.Funeral Services will be private, for John's family, on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Obituary Preview: Edwin Ellis Day, 75, of Mesa, AZ, passed away on October 14, 2021. He was born in Callicoon, NY on March 21, 1946 to Maurice and Doris Maudsley Day. He graduated from Honesdale High School in 1965 and The Culinary Institute of America in 1968. Later that year he married his sweetheart, Karen Engvaldsen.Eddie was heavily involved with the Freemasons. His Masonic affiliations included Honesdale Lodge No. 218 F&AM, Anthony Wayne Chapter No. 204 RAM, Scranton Council No. 44 R&SMM, Savona Commandery No. 89 KT, Irem Shriners, and Eastern Star. He was best known for his scrumptious baked goods at Day's Bakery on Main St. in Honesdale, PA, which he owned and operated from May 1982 until April of 2017. People came from far and wide for his brownies, chocolate butter press cookies, face cookies, lebkuchen, Christmas cookies, rum balls, nutty doughnuts, cakes, pastries, pies, parker house and butter rolls, and his wide variety of breads. He loved to donate his baked goods to charitable causes whenever he could. As much as he enjoyed baking and interacting with his customers, nothing brought him more joy than his family. His happiest moments were those spent with his loved ones. He especially cherished the time he spent with his grandson, Stephen. He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice, and his brother, Maurice "Elmer." He left behind a loving family, including his wife, Karen; his daughter, Tracy Sanchez and her husband Edmundo, and their son, Stephen, of Gilbert, Arizona; his son, Stephen Day, of Scranton, PA; his mother, Doris Day, of Honesdale, PA; his sister, Carolyn and her husband Bobby Love, of Florida; His sister, Lois Day of Pittston, PA; his sister-in-law, Treva Day of South Canaan; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Eddie's life will be held on Saturday, November 13 at 2:30 PM in the Wesley Room at Central United Methodist Church, 205 11th Street, Honesdale, PA, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Masonic and Order of the Eastern Star services will be held. Masks will be required for visitation and services.

Obituary Preview: Mary P. Schutt of Jefferson Township passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on October 13, 2021, one day before her 84th birthday. She was the wife of William Schutt.Mary was born and raised in Seelyville, the youngest of Florence and Franklin Piercy's five children. Mary played basketball at Honesdale High School, where she graduated in 1955. She worked in food service at Western Wayne High School until her retirement. Mary's first calling was to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of the South Canaan Free Methodist Church and also attended the Elmdale Bible Church. She attended weekly prayer breakfasts and was a frequent guest speaker at other churches. Her second calling was public service, most recently through the Jefferson Township Fire Company and the Jefferson Township Lions Club. She valued her lifelong friendships and helped to plan both high school and family reunions. Mary loved the beauty of nature, gardening, parades, travelling far and wide for southern gospel events, and attending local concerts from fiddling to symphonies. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Bob (Orianna) Richards of South Canaan and Laurie (James) Zielinski of Jefferson Township, grandchildren Katie Ann and JJ Zielinski, siblings Arlene Hiller Seig and George Piercy, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Michael and Frank Piercy. Obituary Preview: Rose V. Roberts, 72, of Waymart passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning October 13th, 2021 at Allied Hospice in Scranton after a recent illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Frederick A. Roberts, who died on March 19, 2014. They were married on April 18,1970. Born in Carbondale on March 5 1949, she was the daughter of the late Leonard L. Palko and Catherine A.(Savage) Palko of Waymart. She attended the First Baptist Church / The Waymart Church, before health issues deterred her, and was an integral part of the youth group function in its fledgling stages, which now flourishes at the Waymart Church. Rose grew up on a farm just outside of Waymart, off of the Owego Turnpike. The daughter of a WW2 veteran, she knew the value of hard work and everything sacred, and always put her family first before her own self. She attended a one room schoolhouse for elementary learning before graduating from Waymart High School in 1967. She was employed for many years by Waymart Knitting Co. as a seamstress, before the company closed. Thereafter, she attended Lackawanna College and earned an AS in Business Administration. She graduated with that degree in 1990, the same year her son graduated high school. She was then employed by the Manor at Waymart - Spojnia, as Assistant Administrator, before retiring. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Rose enjoyed reading, watching Food Network and cooking. She was famous for her homemade potato salad, pigs in the blanket and pierogies. She also enjoyed spending time with her best friend Robin. A sweet smile from Rose would brighten up a room and make anyone's day better. She always remained optimistic through adversity in her own health battles. A victorious breast cancer survivor, she admirably dealt with the effects of chemo in later years. Her faith in Jesus was strong and carried her through each day, and her bible was always by her side. Rose's gentle and caring nature embodied her in everything she did, and all she stood for. She always went out of her way to help others, gave to her various charities and was an extremely generous person.Her endearing love and care for her family, her son and especially her grandchildren, was paramount. She was so very proud of them. Rose will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, and her spirit and devotion to all things good will live on forever. She is survived by her son Ryan Roberts of Waymart; her grandchildren Thomas Roberts, Melanie Roberts and Gabriel Pieros, also of Waymart; a brother Blaise Palko and his wife Lucy, Lake Ariel; sister Julia Martzen and her husband James, Waymart; her sister Catherine De Fazio and husband Rick of Lake Ariel; brother Louis Palko and his companion Vicki, of Jacksonville, Florida; as well as several loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her beloved husband, Robert F. Lillie on February 28, 1997. Born January 5, 1959 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of Frances (Bunting) Faatz of Rileyville and the late Earl Faatz, Sr. Sharon graduated from Honesdale High School in 1976. She worked for many years as a legal secretary, and later went on to become the office manager at the Wayne County Magisterial District Court in Hawley. Sharon retired in January of this year and adored every moment she had to spend with her grandson. She enjoyed camping at Ponderosa Pines Campground and loved to go to yard sales to look for treasures. Sharon always enjoyed good conversation with a glass of wine. She was a devoted mother and will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her mother, Sharon is also survived by her son, who was her best friend, Nicholas R. Lillie and his wife Tiffany of Prompton; and her grandson, Robert Harold Lillie who was her pride and joy; sisters, Kathy Menotti and her husband Marty, Jenny Faatz and her companion Bernie; and her brother, Earl Faatz, Jr., all of Honesdale; nieces and nephew, Alison, Meghan, Matt, Carley, Audrey, and Julianne; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Peggy Zielinski, Kate Magalski and her husband Mark, Marianne Thorpe and her husband Jim, Rob Shino and his wife Julie, and Kenny Shino and his wife Laurie; her father-in-law, R. BORN IN CARBONDALE ON AUGUST 16, 1928, HE WAS THE SON OF THE LATE JAMES RUSSELL CLIFT AND EDITH TURNER CLIFT SCHENK. A 1946 GRADUATE OF WAYMART HIGH SCHOOL, HE ATTENDED A ONE ROOM SCHOOLHOUSE IN SOUTH CANAAN UNTIL THE DISTRICT OPENED THE SOUTH CANAAN CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL WHEN HE WAS IN 5TH GRADE. A CARPENTER BY TRADE, HE LOGGED WITH HIS FATHER EARLIER IN HIS LIFE AND BUILT HIS HOUSE WITH TREES HE CUT FROM HIS PROPERTY AND SAWED INTO LUMBER AT HIS FATHERS SAWMILL. HE HAD A LIFELONG INTEREST IN AVIATION AND LEARNED HOW TO PILOT SMALL AIRCRAFT BEFORE HE WAS OLD ENOUGH TO DRIVE A CAR. HE ALSO LOVED MOTORCYCLES AND RODE MOST OF HIS LIFE UNTIL HE PARKED HIS GOLDWING AT THE AGE OF 88. A FOUNDING MEMBER OF THREE MOTORCYCLE CLUBS, HE HELPED ORGANIZE AND PARTICIPATED IN MANY VARIETY SHOWS WITH THE PLEASURE RIDERS MOTORCYCLE CLUB TO BENEFIT ANYONE WHO NEEDED HELP. A "JACK OF ALL TRADES" AND A MASTER OF MOST, HE HELPED HIS FAMILY WITH MANY PROJECTS OVER THE YEARS AND COULD OUTWORK ANYONE.HE TOOK GREAT PRIDE IN HIS PROPERTY AND GARDEN, AND AS A YOUNGER MAN OFTEN USED HIS FATHERS TEAM OF WORK HORSES INSTEAD OF A TRACTOR. Obituary Preview: Helen S. Keen, 86, of Waymart passed away peacefully on Monday morning, September 13, 2021 at home, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Dale R. Keen who died on October 24, 2009. They were married on July 25, 1953. Born March 27, 1935 in Greentown, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Ethel (Beisher) Schoenagel. Helen was born and raised on the family farm in Greentown. In her youth, she was a member of the Hemlock Grove United Methodist Church and Sunday School, where she began playing piano at age 14. She graduated from Greene Dreher High School in 1953. Later that summer, she married the love of her life, Dale. In the early years, Helen, Dale and Wade worked on the farm until Dale was called into service in the United States Army. Helen stayed on the farm and only joined him in Fort Polk, LA when she found out they were expecting their second child. Following his honorable discharge, they settled on the Keen family farm once again where Helen took a prominent role in operating the dairy farm, as well as all the other aspects of a hard-working farm wife and mother. Helen was a school bus driver for more than 40 years. For 23 years, she served the community as the Canaan Township Tax Collector.Helen began playing piano and organ at an early age, and had the distinction of serving her home church, Calvary United Methodist Church in Waymart for 63 years with her music, including being the choir director. She started playing on Sundays since October of 1957 and played until 2020. Through the years, she played at several local churches including the First Presbyterian and St. Mary's Roman Catholic Churches in Waymart as well as for many weddings and funerals in the northeast region. Helen loved her church; she was also a faithful member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Laurel Chapter #67 Order of the Eastern Star. Always happy for time with family and friends, she and Dale enjoyed bowling and were in several leagues through the years. Helen was an integral part of our community and will be fondly remembered with love, by all who had the joy of knowing her. She was truly a gift to us all. She is survived by five children: Gary Keen and his wife Cindy of Waymart, Bonnie Sheard and her husband Ron of Calkins, Doug Keen and his wife Cathy of Florida, Linda Mosher and her husband Carl of Waymart, and Kathy Williams and her husband Dan of Dunmore; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Altemier and her husband Roger of Greentown; and several nieces and nephews. Helen was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Schoenagel; and her sister, Emogene Brill. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 16 at 10:00 AM in Calvary United Methodist Church, 151 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472 with Pastor Wendy D'Agostino and Rev. Bonnie Sheard co-officiating. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, September 15 from 4-7pm in the Jenkins-Howell Funeral Home, Inc. Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472. An Eastern Star Funeral Service will conclude the visitation at 7pm in the funeral home on Wednesday. Obituary Preview: Robert A. Muller, Sr., 89, of Cold Springs died on Sunday evening, September 12, 2021, surrounded by family at home. His beloved wife of 66 years, the former Judith R. Perkins survives him. They were married on October 10, 1955. Born September 24, 1931, in Yonkers, New York, he was the son of the late John Anderson Muller and Veronica Meehan Muller. Bob graduated from Newfoundland High School and was a member of the Future Farmers of America. He went on to serve in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 in the Korean War. Bob was honorably discharged from the Army Reserve on December 2, 1960. Throughout the course of his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Korea Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and the Sharpshooter Medal for Rifle.Bob worked for the Honesdale National Bank for 37 years. He retired in 1993 as a Vice President of the Loan Department. Following his retirement from the bank, he was the Lebanon Township Tax Collector for several years. Bob was a Lifetime Member of the Honesdale Hose Co. #1 where he served as Treasurer for 14 years. He was also a Lifetime Member of Pleasant Mount Emergency Services and served as the Treasurer from 1993 to 2017. Bob was a member of the Penn State Extension. An avid supporter of youth and agriculture, Bob was a 4-H leader for 45 years of the Cold Springs Rileyville and Bethany Ag Clubs. He is also survived by three children: Ella Muller Chyle (Jack), Robert Muller Jr. (Ellen), and Kathryn Muller Dix (Roger); grandchildren: Jessica Chyle Friedenstein (Brian), Jimmie Ann Chyle Fries (Max), Jason Chyle (Kyndra), Jacob Chyle (Ashley), Jackie Chyle Cosgrove (Bryan), Erica Muller Verola (Mark), Ashley Dix Nebzydoski (Tom), and Adam Dix; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carol Muller; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was also preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Theresa Muller; brothers; John Muller and Richard Muller; and sister-in-law, Elaine Muller. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 16, 2021, from 4-6 PM at Pleasant Mount Emergency Services, 161 Great Bend Turnpike, Pleasant Mount, PA 18453. Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial will be private, for Bob's family. Interment with military honors will also be private, in St. James Cemetery, Pleasant Mount.

Dale lived his life in Calkins alongside his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of almost 50 years, Cynthia D. (Erhardt) They raised their four children in the home that Dale built with his own hands, having been a very talented carpenter. Dale worked tirelessly as a builder, and if you were lucky enough to have done business with him through his work with Dorsan, Dexter, and, eventually, his own company, DWD, Inc., you would have seen what pride he took in his work.Dale was a humble and devout servant for the Lord. He took every opportunity to preach and speak of God's Word, and lived his life as such. Over the last 25 years, Dale performed numerous marriage ceremonies, and he used those opportunities to not only spread the Word, but to also give everyone around him a look into his quick wit and humor. He was generally a quiet and soft-spoken man, but when talking about his Savior, you got a glimpse into the funny, determined, and fervent side of him. He truly was a blessing to all who met him. Dale, or "Rabbit" or "Grady" to those who knew him best, was deeply devoted to his family, and enjoyed every moment he spent with his children and grandchildren. He was the king of the "dad joke," and, although he was met occasionally with eye rolls, he more often was making everyone laugh. He was a deeply loved husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, and friend, and his passing will be felt by so many. In addition to his wife, Dale is survived by his children: Micah Wilcox, and his wife Tracy, Seth Wilcox and his wife Libby, and Sarai Weber and her husband, Eric; his grandchildren: Morgen and Demi Wilcox, Cassidy, Hannah, Ava, and Miles Wilcox, and Aubree and Mariah Weber; his brothers, Dean Wilcox, and Dennis Wilcox and wife Jannette; and many nieces and nephews.Dale was also preceded in death by his daughter, Megan E. Wilcox, and his parents.
