Harry H. Chandless - April 23, 1930 - April 09, 2022

Obituary Preview: Harry Hutman Chandless, Jr. was born to Harry Chandless, Sr and Helen Cathryn Nixon. He lived nearly his entire life in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, where he was active in politics, government and numerous civic organizations and had an extraordinarily positive impact on countless lives in the process.
In 1951, Harry became the youngest elected member to the Bergan County Republican Committee. Around that time he also founded the Bergen Count Young Republican Club, for which he would serve as President and Solicitor.  Among other roles, he was also the former Hasbrouck Heights Municipal Chairman.
Harry graduated at the top of his class from Columbia College and Columbia Law School, where he was named a Harlan Fisk Stone Scholar. Admitted to the bar in 1955, he served as Hasbrouck Heights Borough Prosecutor from 1958 to 1966, when he was appointed to Municipal Judge. He held that position for 36 years, setting a record fot the longest continuous serving judge in New Jersey.
In 1971, Harry also organized the Save the Ocean Society to successfully block the construction of a floating nuclear power plant off the New Jersey coast.
He was involved in multiple services and professional organizations, including as Past President of the Hasbrouck Heights Lion Club, Deacon in the First Reformed Church of Hasbrouck Heights, member of the Euclid Masonic Lodge and Life Member of the Bergen County Bar Association.
Harry had a brilliant mind, a contagious sense og humor, 1001 uses for duct tape and most of all an amazing heart. He is survived by his adoring children, Kathryn, Barbara, and Harry lll, as well as 10 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren, who will forever cherish his memory.

Bill was a long time member of Marple Presbyterian Church where he was in the church choir. He also enjoyed snow skiing and riding his motorcycle.

There are also sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, cousins, and many nieces and nephews and many friends who will remember Debbie with affection.
Debbie loved spending time with her grandchildren; going for long car rides with her husband, gardening but more specifically her hydrangeas; and taking trips to Cape May every summer with her family.

Roy and Marilyn married in 1967, and were best friends for 57 years. They loved taking family vacationstogether, including California, Wildwood, NJ, Maine, The Outer Banks, National parks, and many cruises. Their door was always open was always open. Their house was where friends gathered for Young Life meetings, Eagles football games. band practices and social events. They also welcomed foreign exchange students from Japan, China, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and other countries. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Upper Darby, Roy graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1960. He served in the U. S. Army from 1964 to 1966, he earned his BS in economics from the University of Pennsylvania (assisted by the GI bill) in 1974, and worked for Bell Atlantic until his retirement in 1991. He served as Auditor of Morton Borough in the mid-1970's. Roy loved the Lord. He was a long-time member of Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church in Rutledge, PA, where he organized and cooked the weekly men's breakfast, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Later as a member of Covenant Fellowship Church, he served on the function support team, and with Marilyn as a greeter and an usher. Roy loved to laugh, and was known for his good-natured sense of humor. He enjoyed working on cars( particularly his 1953 Hudson Hornet) riding his bicycle, watching Phillies baseball, and spending time with his family-especially his grandchildren. Roy loved music. He played guitar, and his home was often filled with the music of Willie Nelson, John Denver, and Bob Dylan.

You could catch Daniel upon a roof working or at skateboard park, paintball field, hanging with his friends, or simply wandering around. He had a huge heart and loved with all of it.

The world lost a really good one and we will never be the same without Gerd, Dad and Opi in our lives. Gerd was born on June 15, 1941 in Wittenberge, Germany. He arrived in the United States in 1970 as an employee of Mercedes-Benz and went on to open Autobahn Motorcars in 1982. This would later become Mercedes-Benz of Devon. Being a Mercedes-Benz dealer was the perfect match for Gerd as he had an underlying love for vehicles, motorcycles and generally anything that would go. For Gerd, his wheels, were second only to his family and friends. To say he was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, and Brother would the greatest understatement of all time. He was kind. compassionate, understanding, and loving to all. Gerd is Survived by his loving wife Patricia nee Gerber; his children Elizabeth Stout with husband StephenStout Jr. , and Christopher Opderbeck; his grandchildren Spencer Jane, Stephen Paul III, and Collins Martha; brothers Kurt-Bernd and Holger Opderbeck; Goddaughter Eva Stoiber; nephews Maximillian and Patrick Stoiber; and niece Charlotte Stoiber. She left us while sleeping peacefully at her residence in Broomall, PA, with her family by her side. She was 83 years old. Joan is survived by her children, Jean Marie Hanley (nee Melville) (Clarence) and Curtis L. Melville, Jr. (Tara) Grandchildren Ryan Hanley, Megan Hanley, Krista Melville, and Amber Melville, her sister Elaine Boyd (Maas) and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her devoted husband Curtis L. Melville, Sr. of 50+ years, grandson Curtis L. Melville III, and parents George and Elizabeth Maas (nee Wetton). Joan lived a full life as a wonderful and caring wife, mother, homemaker, and administrative assistant at Rosemont College. She loved to travel, go to the beach, and play cards. She was a great cook, kept an immaculate house, and had a green thumb, so naturally, gardening was a passion. But most of all she loved her family and instilled in her children and grandchildren strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed. A celebration of Joan's life will be held at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike. Newtown Square, PA 19073. on Thursday August 12, 2021. Throughout his life, he shared his remarkable knowledge with others by teaching graduate school courses on taxation and serving on countless financial committees throughout the community. David was an avid collector and loved music and the arts. In his retirement, David learned to play the piano, invested in real estate, grew an impressive garden of vegetables, and enjoyed his home away from home in Ocean City, NJ. Above all David stood firm in his faith and was an active member at Church of Our Savior in Wayne for 40 years. David cherished his wife, daughters, and grandchildren, and they will miss him dearly. David is survived by his wife Beverley, brothers, Robert (Diane) Kleeman, daughters Alison (Robert) Durbois and Jeannette (Wayne) Grabe, and his grandchildren, Caleb Dorbois, Gabriel Doubois, Caden Durbois, Katherine Kleeman, Jacob Grabe, Luke Grabe and Madeline Grabe. He was always proud of the fact that all of his graduate and post graduate degrees were obtained at night school. He married Susan McKeon in 1971. She was the person, in his life, that enabled and inspired him to achieve whatever success he had. They had three children; Shawn (Anna Gryglewska), Megan (Gary Bernhard), and Kate Hackenburg (Paul). George and Sue have five grandchildren; Emily, Jack, and Finn Hopkins, Gavin Johnson and Evan Hackenburg. They also have three step-grandchildren; Zachary, Trinity, and Bryce Hackenburg. George was the oldest of seven siblings; Kevin,(Edward Kazio) Timothy (Christine), Mary Dunn (Richard), Ruthann Cordes (David Baker), Gregory (Linda Kunze), and predeceased by his brother Mark and sister-in-law Jeanne. He is also survived by 9 nieces and nephews and 6 great nieces and nephews. George began his working life in the consumer finance business. In 1975 He began working for Delaware County Government and soon began his love of politics, specifically Republican politics. He met and was mentored by Faith Ryan Whittlesey, She introduced him to Ronald Reagan's campaign for the presidency, in 1979. In 1982, he was appointed Regional Administrator for the Mid-Atlantic Region of the US General Services Administration (GSA), wher he served for 11 years. Much of George's last year with the GSA, was in serving as the commissioner of Public Buildings for the entire US, in Washington, DC. He completed his law degree in 1996 and upon passing the bar, he worked for Michael FX Gillin & Associates, in Media, PA., where he also returned to Delaware Government, which he served until his retirement in 2018. George was an avid collector of both political memorabilia and 45 records throughout his life. He was the recipient of many awards, most notably: Outstanding Young Man in America; The Chapel of the Four Chaplains Award; all of the GSA Performance Awards culminating with the agency's Outstanding Achievement Award. He always considered his greatest GSA achievement was in moving the National Archives from 5000 Wissahickon Avenue to the Old Post Office at 9th and Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia for which he was awarded the Public Service Award from the Society of Access Professionals. In his retirement he authored his families' genealogy, as well as other introspective studies. He published his autobiography; "Political Hack, My Life in Politics", so that his children and grandchildrenwould know what he accomplished in life.

His nieces, Bridget and Kristin, who affectionately called him Dadoo, were also like daughters to him. He is also survived by his siblings, sisters, Mary (Lou), Angela (Steve), brothers Fred (Sue) and Nick (Kitten) who predeceased him. He is also survived by loving sisters-in-law, a brother -in-law and many nieces and nephews. He had many friends who he loved. He was a kind, generous, giving man who loved his family endlessly.He was a gentleman always and he would do anything for anybody. In his free time he loved tinkering in the garage and basement. He never really relaxed or sat around. There was always something to be done, someone to help. He wasan avid Philadelphia sports fan and the ultimate Villanova football fan!
