Dana Taylor Gentry - October 18, 1965 - March 26, 2022

Departed: 03/26/2022 (Covington)
Obituary Preview: This obituary was lovingly prepared by the family. Dana Taylor Gentry 1965-2022
Beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother, Dana Gentry was lost too soon to cruel illness. Dana was one of the world’s kind and generous people, always willing to give her time and energy and love to those in need. She hosted a long line of family or friends in need of a place to stay, providing comfort and security for those whose lives were lacking, including nursing both her father, her uncle, and her mother-in-law through their final days. She took uncomplaining care of other people’s children, and raised a menagerie of spoiled pets and farm animals on the family’s property near Good Hope. She was an outstanding and exceedingly generous cook, known for treating enormous gatherings to more delicious food than could possibly be consumed in a day’s serious eating. After working through her early adult years, Dana settled down to a career as a devoted homemaker and helpmate to her husband, David Gentry. She had two daughters; Brandy Gentry, now a successful self-made lawyer; and Sarah Gentry, planning her marriage later this year.
Dana is survived by her husband and daughters; brother Harry Taylor Jr., of Loganville; sister Brynne Taylor, of Bothell, Washington; her mother Dianne Etheridge; uncle Jimmy Coker; two step-daughters, Jessica Gentry, and Jennifer Richardson; and three grandchildren, Alexis Richardson, Jaiden Richardson, and Aiden Craft. She was the salt of the earth, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Spencer Hudson - September 29, 1975 - March 20, 2022

Departed: 03/20/2022 (Covington)
Obituary Preview: Obituary lovingly prepared by his family.
Spencer Hudson, the beloved son of longtime Covington residents Felton and Jennifer Hudson and friend to so many, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly into never fading memories on March 20th, 2022. Besides his mother and father, Spencer leaves behind his love, Ellie Kang and many close relatives too many to enumerate here. He loved them all dearly and they know well of their place in his heart. Spencer's grandparents Charles and Quigg Piper and Charles Hudson and Ann Townley preceded him in death but not in his love.
Spencer was born on September 29th of 1975 and though his life was cut short by a random act of violence, his 46 years of life was full by any standard of measure. He traveled the world over and visited over 90 countries-making 2 trips around the earth-once going east and once west. He never counted airport stops or layovers as visits and would often stay months if he was stirred by the country to give more of his time. He was a man of the earth, especially concerned with the care of our only residence; overpopulation, ecology and the need for all our caring for it. This was evidenced by his visits to over 25 National Parks. Litter was an anathema to Spencer and he routinely picked up trash in reverence to mother earth.
Spencer loved sports and participated in many, including basketball, golf, soccer and tennis. His love of soccer and world travel was manifested in attending the last 5 world cups held in France, Germany, Russia, Brazil and South Africa. Sadly, he will miss the world cup being held in Qatar this year. Spencer's knowledge of college basketball was impressive. His travels, studies and mastery of words made him a very formidable trivia player.
Spencer's education includes a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in History from the University of Massachusetts in Boston. He also attended the University of Georgia (though he always remained a strong GT football fan,) and the University of Montana as part of his undergraduate experience. His post graduate efforts included significant course work at the City College of New York and the University of New Orleans. Spencer's personal quest of knowledge was ongoing and not limited to college classrooms. He possessed a personal library of over 1,045 books of value and substance. Of his library books, he had read, by count, over 972 books with the remaining 73 on his queue for future reading.
Spencer's death resulted from a senseless and random act of violence we see often in America today and happened as he worked hard in his job on Bourbon Street in New Orleans- a city he loved and had resided for many years. It was not a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Our hope is that his death will have some positive influence in changing this lack of respect for human life and dignity we see pervading and destroying our country.

Charlotte Maxine Johnson - January 26, 1933 - March 06, 2022

Departed: 03/06/2022 (Covington)
Obituary Preview: Charlotte Maxine Johnson, age 89, daughter of the late Oscar McCullers and Florie McCullers Adcock and step-daughter of Sanders “Papa” Adcock passed away at her home on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
Maxine grew up in Conyers, Georgia where she attended Milstead High School. She loved playing basketball, attending dances and gathering with friends at Beasley Drugstore. She loved to tell the story about skipping school and going to the malt shop where that “rascal” Robert reported her to the principal and she was suspended. Little did she know that one day she would reconnect with him and spend fifty plus years together.
Maxine was a hairstylist by profession and enjoyed working and staying busy. When she wasn’t at the salon, she was at home cooking, cleaning and doing yard work. She thrived on serving others.
Maxine was a truly genuine woman who loved with all her heart and ALWAYS put others above herself. She was a wonderful confidant and many secrets have been shared with her. Our fondest memories are sitting around the kitchen table after dinner sharing our day with her.
She enjoyed attending First Baptist Atlanta where she had an incredible support group that loved on her and made her feel special, especially during these last years while she battled with dementia. We are comforted knowing she is in the presence of the Lord and that someday we will all be together again.
Maxine is survived by her daughters Suzanne Jeffers and Linda Smith, her grandchildren Daniel Smith (Roxy) and Ashley Jeffers, her great-grandchildren Devin Hatcher and Abigail Tierce.

Richard Mayo Brown - January 21, 1971 - February 28, 2022

Departed: 02/28/2022 (Covington)
Obituary Preview: The obituary is lovingly prepared by the family.
Richard was loved and respected by many, and will be greatly missed.  He was rough around the edges, aren’t we all, but he was the embodiment of what it meant to be a man and always put his family first.
He was loyal to a fault, did everything at 100%, and stood up for what he believed in.  He was larger than life, and had what could only be called true grit. Not just resilient, he was and still is one of the most intelligent people I’ve ever known.  He had this innate ability to not only learn things quickly, but also to master them.  He was a natural leader, and always took charge and care of everything he was involved with.  There were so many layers to Richard and his life, that they all can’t possibly be written here.
Unfortunately, Richard lost his battle against depression and a host of other issues.  Many people close to a suicide are reluctant to share how they passed, out of a sense of protectiveness toward the dead, a desire for their own privacy, and to avoid all the stigmas around suicide and mental health in general.  We don’t think anyone’s entire life should be remembered, or judged based on a single decision, however flawed.  We believe that one step toward suicide prevention is a more open, public conversation about the subject.
Richard leaves behind his loving wife Anita Brown, son’s Richie Brown and James Goff and daughter-in-law Becca and 3 grandchildren he loved and adored Ryland, Elliott and Della Goff, Father and Mother-in-law, Bill & Cheryl Dailey along with several aunts, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and too many “brothers” to name.  He was preceded in death by his father, Sammy Brown, his mother, Darlene Brown and his grandparents.  He also leaves behind his 3 loyal furry companions – Charlie, Callie and Stormie.
A Memorial Service for Richard will be held Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 5 o’clock at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM prior to the service on Saturday.
Governor Brian Kemp has lifted the restrictions for large gatherings and other recommendations throughout Georgia.  However, we ask that you still be respectful of the family and others during this time. If you are sick, not feeling well, or have any symptoms of COVID 19, please do not attend the service or services.  If you feel the need to wear a mask, please do so.
