Edna worked at Engineered Rubber in Copley for many years. Her and her husband, Gerald, retired to New Hampshire where she enjoyed bowling and golfing and loved to play bingo. She also enjoyed ice fishing and scenic drives with her husband. Edna looked forward tot he Conn Family Reunions every Labor Day, which her and Gerald hosted for several years.

Obituary Preview: Mary Hilda Emery, 96, of Akron, Ohio, slipped away peacefully on a cold and sunny December 11, 2019, and joined her husband, W.C.(Bud) Emery, and her son, Richard Emery, in heaven.
She was born on August 21, 1923, to Mary and Joseph Ripp, graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Akron, and married Bud on October 16, 1943. They lived in Copley, Ohio and raised 5 children together.
She is survived by her children, Thomas Emery, Susan and Greg Vogelsong, Francie and John Mishler and Patty and Lee Harrison; grandchildren Christopher, Jacque, Bethani, Amy, Bobby, Kim, Kelly, Josh, Hope, Lindsey and 19 great grandchildren. Mary was a devout Catholic and was known for being loving, frank to a fault, and a wonderful cook and baker. She passed her appreciation of Hungarian Christmas cookies, and their secret family recipes, along to her daughters and granddaughters who called her Granny Mary. She quit driving of her own volition at 94, with a perfect driving record. Her warm and vivacious personality was an inspiration to all who knew her and was a true Pepperidge Farm type of mother.

Obituary Preview: Mary Jo (Seikel) Mellody, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 9, 2019 at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center surrounded by her children.
Mary Jo was born in Akron OH to Dr. George Seikel and Lucile (Riley) Seikel Mellody on July 17 1931. Her family were honorary founding members of St. Sebastian Parish, where she graduated from grade school. She attended St. Vincent High School where she met her future husband. She graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in elementary education and a masters in Reading. Mary Jo taught first grade and was a substitute teacher. Mary Jo had lifelong friends from St. Sebastian, St. Vincent, and Theta Phi Alpha. Mary Jo married John Mellody on January 2 1954 at St. Sebastian Church. They had ten children one of whom Robert Girard died in infancy. Mary Jo is survived by nine children: Mary Ann Lambert; Sister Kathleen Cordis Mellody VHM; John (Elaine) Mellody; Sister Maria Anna (Patricia) Mellody SSCJ; Carolyn (Paul) Sutter; James (Diane) Mellody; Sister Mary Johanna (Susan) Mellody O.P.; Barbara Blanco and friend Brad Bolinger; and Jean Horvath; nineteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents and her brothers George R. Seikel and John J Seikel.
Mary Jo was a very devout Catholic and she and her husband were Benedictine Oblates for over 50 years. Mary Jo served terms as president of the Diocesan chapter of the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW) and the local Christ Child Society and Parliamentary Law Society. She was the NCCW Summit Regional Council Woman of the Year in 1992. She and her mother founded the funeral Circle at St. Sebastian Parish and was a member of the Sanctuary Society. From every group she maintained friendships throughout her life. Her last year she lived at the Village at St. Edwards where some of these many friends shared daily meals.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio to Berta and Antal Horvath, she was orphaned by age three and raised by relatives, but apart from her beloved sisters Bertha and Ann. After a brief courtship, she married Dan who soon enlisted in the Navy. They did not see each other for 2 1/2 years. Yolanda spent countless hours working for Jack and Heinz during the war, oftentimes being unable to use her ration coupons because stores were closed by the time she was off work. She was married for 63 years, raised four children Bonnie Myers (Fred deceased), Dan (Susan), Tom (Kathy) and Darlene (JIm) Berresford. Preceded in death by her husband; she is survived by her children; grandchildren, Jennifer, Beth, Tom and Christopher; great grandchildren Kelly, Branden and Freddie. Her children are grateful for the values she instilled in them along with her deep Catholic faith. We wish to thank the wonderful staff of The Village of St. Edward's for their excellent care of our mother.

Anna grew up on a nearby farm in Akron that later was included in Bessemer Farms that she and her husband, Gene, ran until his death in 2002. Anna continued the farming operation and enjoyed working on the farm until her retirement at age 88. She was the last surviving member of the “Sewing Club” that she joined 71 years ago and she also enjoyed being a member of the Northampton
Hill and Vale Garden Club and the Norton Homemakers. Anna dearly loved her family and is preceded in death by her husband Eugene, and her brother Steve Szalay. She is survived by her sister Helen Brummel, loving children Donald (Carol) Bessemer, Barbara (James) Daisher, and Karen Lovenguth; her grandchildren Jennifer Marando (Henry Drechsler), Crissy Kolarik, Stephen Daisher (Melissa), Ryan Daisher, Keith Daisher (Maria), five nieces and nephews, and 13 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her special friends Barbara Cannon, Coletta Craddock, Janet Mc Neill, Lola Love, as well as Christina and

Kristina “Tina” Buehrle (Nichols), 55, departed this world on November 7, 2019, with her husband, four boys, and family by her side, due to complications developed from a surgical procedure. Born on August 7, 1964, Tina graduated as high school valedictorian, received her B.S. and M.B.A. from the University of Akron, and then completed post-graduate studies at the University of Oxford, England. Following her education, Tina embarked upon a promising career at A. Schulman; however, Tina’s true career and purpose in life centered on building her family.
Tina was first and foremost a devoted mother and loving wife. She was the heart of her family, and the gift of her life is truly recognized through the depth of our loss. Tina had great and fun relationships with her family and those she encountered, and she brightened the lives of those around her. She proudly supported her four boys throughout their educations and was active within the St. Hilary and Walsh Jesuit communities. Tina was a committed wife of almost 30 years, real estate investment partner, and most importantly, best friend of her husband, Ed.
Tina committed time and passion to the Women’s Board at Akron Children’s Hospital, as a substitute teacher at St. Hilary Parish School, and as a dear friend to so, so many. Tina loved being the CEO of her home and for all the boys - baking, cooking, working in her beautiful gardens, playing in her Springside tennis league, reading and traveling with her family.
Tina is preceded in death by her father, Frank Burton Nichols; father-in-law, Victor Edward Buehrle, Jr; uncle, Daniel Nichols; grandfathers, Russell Nichols and Benjamin Weaver; and her very dear grandmother, Martha Weaver.
Tina will be missed and remembered by countless family members and friends. She is survived by her mother, Michele Lynne Nichols; husband, Edward Victor Buehrle; her four sons, Victor Edward III, William Riley, Maxwell Parker, and Russell Dylan; brothers, Todd (Peggy) Nichols and Frank Tyler Nichols; sister, Tamara Lynne Nichols, and grandmother, Helen Nichols. Born on August 21, 1947 in Toledo, Mike was a graduate of Toledo’s Central Catholic High School and the University of Toledo, where he earned degrees in Engineering and Business. He worked for several companies as a computer systems consultant. He was an excellent provider, a loving husband, and the best father anyone could have.
Mike served as band parent, baseball coach, and basketball coach. He was a lifelong Toledo Rockets football fan, taking his family to games and never missing a chance to watch the team on television. His handyman knowledge and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Obituary Preview: Elizabeth "Betty" Murphy Helmkamp passed away peacefully October 23, 2019 surrounded by family. Elizabeth was born August 15, 1923 in Akron, Ohio, to William and Catherine Murphy. As a lifelong resident, she graduated from St. Vincent High School then the University of Akron. After graduating with an accounting degree she was one of the few female professors teaching at the university after World War II. In 1946 she married William F. Helmkamp and was married for 67 years until his death in 2013. Their love and respect for each other was a perfect example for us children. She is survived by children Katie, Bill (Deb), Chris (Zivile), Jim (Jill), Tom, John (Rebecca), 10 grandchildren,four great-grandchildren and brother John J. Murphy. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Mary (Paul) Nowak, brother William (Ellen) Murphy, sister-in-law Pat Murphy. Mom was a devout Catholic, saying a daily rosary. Legally blind, she was a familiar figure in West Akron walking to St. Sebastian every morning for mass, rain or shine. Her life was fulfilled by her devotion to family and lifelong friends from school days and Kappa Kappa Gamma. In addition to keeping a spotless house, being a wonderful cook, beloved mother and wife, she found time to be active in St. Sebastian church, St. Thomas Women's Auxiliary and other charities she viewed as worthwhile. Every spring she spent countless hours selling "Day at the Races" tickets with one of her dear friends. One of her greatest joys, especially later in life, was listening to the Cleveland Indians baseball games. She was an avid fan. Her greatest gift to others were lessons in truth, integrity, hard work, frugality, perseverance and faith in God. She thought the best of everyone and expected their best in return. Loved and admired by so many who consider themselves incredibly lucky to have been part of her "rose-colored world."

Morgan is survived by her parents Mark and Mary Smith of Doylestown, Ohio; her fiancé Jeffrey Hutt of Columbus, Ohio; her trusty companion, Tex- the most loyal dog anyone has ever met; and loving family of Matthew, Becca and Olivia; Bubba, Lolly, Elle B, Saylor and Cru; and Maxwell, Jessica, Addison, Wynn and Lincoln Smith. Morgan was an avid softball player, with her career culminating with collegiate play at Toledo. Her love of the game and life showed in all she did.

She is preceded in death by her father James Bernard Boles, her grandparents Anne and Anthony Scalise and Oris and Mae Boles, her uncles William Boles, Dominic Scalise, Michael Mondello and Fred Kalail, and her aunt Rose Citriniti. She is survived by her mother, Kathryn Ann Boles (Scalise), her sisters Lisa Balough (Jeffrey) and Jennifer Durkin (Patrick), her nephews James Balough (Autumn) and Jack Durkin, her nieces Alexandra Balough (Ali), Catherine Durkin and Meghan Durkin, her aunt Patricia Kalail (Boles), and her cousins Michael Mondello, Michelle Scalise-Piccirilli, Anna Scalise, Antoinette Suiter (Scalise) and many other cousins in Ohio, Colorado and New York. Lori was also blessed to have many dear friends who supported and surrounded her, especially during her illness.
Lori was born in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri on October 8, 1957. Lori grew up in Akron, Ohio and graduated from St. Sebastian Grade School and Our Lady of the Elms High School.
After graduating from The University of Akron Magna Cum Laude, she taught 5th grade at St. Hilary's School. She then took a job working for NCR where she was National Salesperson of the Year and traveled all over the world.
Lori loved dogs and was active in various dog rescues. She is reunited on the Rainbow Bridge with her past companions, Max, Buddy and Buster and leaves Augie and Magoo in loving homes.
Lori loved life, her family, Bruce Springsteen, Van Gogh, and the Cleveland Indians. Her pleasant personality, beautiful smile and determination made her a favorite of all her nurses and doctors and a hero in the eyes of her family and friends.

Marianne was born and lived most of her life in Akron. An active member of the Junior League as well as parent associations at St. Sebastian’s School and Walsh Jesuit High School, Marianne was a devoted mother and grandmother, an avid gardener, crafter, and raised soft-coated Wheaten Terriers.
Preceded in death by her husband, Tom, son Bill, and siblings Joan Chase and Dean W. Tunberg, Marianne is survived by her sons Vern and Robert (Kathy), daughter-in-law Cheryl, and grandsons Vern, Jim and Sam as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, 5-8 pm at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd., Copley, Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, 10:30 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 164 W. Market St., Akron. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Teddy Randles - November 01, 1940 - September 01, 2019

Obituary Preview: Ted A. Randles, age 78, passed away on September 1, 2019 at his home after a valiant 7 month battle against brain cancer. He was born on November 1, 1940 in Wooster to the late Delbert and Dorothy Randles. Ted was a 1958 graduate of Orrville High School and chaired their 50th high school reunion. He is a Navy veteran who served from 1958 to 1965. During that time, he served with VA-112, an air attack squadron, aboard the USS Hancock, CVA-19, off the coast of Vietnam and Hawaii. He was awarded the Navy Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal while serving. After being honorably discharged, he attended the University of Akron, founded the university's Veterans Club, became their Charter President and graduated in 1970. Ted moved to Copley/Fairlawn in 1973 and became the Charter Commander of the Copley VFW, served as Commander for 3 of the first 4 years, and is also a VFW lifetime member. He became an agent for State Farm Insurance, was the top producing new agent in the country and retired on August 31, 2019 after 48 years. For Copley Township, Ted chaired the Heritage Day festival, supported the Historical Society and sponsored many community sports teams, events and projects. He was very involved at Copley/Fairlawn High School including being a member of the Guidance Advisory Committee, a judge for speech and debate competitions for 23 years and a participant in the sports and band boosters. Ted was an avid supporter of the Weathervane Community Playhouse, having been a season ticket holder and major contributor for 15 years. Ted loved spending time at his second home in Carolina Beach, North Carolina where he enjoyed watching the waves, pelicans and dolphins.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lucy (Lener); daughter, Krysta (Sheldon II) Senek; grandchildren, Sheldon III and Josephine Betty Joy; sisters, Norma Jean (Harold) Stephens and Sandy (Kenny) Holland; nieces, Michelle (Andy) Cagle, Missy Burns and Gail Burns and many great nieces and nephews.

Her love of laughter was her signature. Her two daughters were her biggest pride and joy. Maggie earned her BA in Psychology from Marietta College, Marietta OH (1979) and attended JEB Stuart High School in Falls Church, VA (1974.)
She is preceded in death by her parents G. Nathan Calkins, Susannah Eby Calkins; sisters Helen (1978) and Sarah (2000). Maggie is survived by her daughters Susannah (Paul) Lich and Abbey Van Auken; beloved grandchildren Leah, Ryker, and Griffin Lich; and sister Abigail (Francisco) Calkins Aguirre.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2019, at 10 AM at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd., Copley, OH, with Pastor Michael Mancari officiating. There will be an open time for sharing memories. A private interment will take place at a later date.
