Neurological damage affected his brainstem and the likelihood of recovery was 3 percent. In the last four months Jeffrey suffered five strokes, nineteen surgeries, four blood clots and one aneurysm - yet he wouldn't allow this to be end of his story. When the final moments started to become our reality, we turned to Donor Life and Jeffrey found his purpose; becoming HERO's to a little girl, a father, and someone's grandfather - leaving behind a gift to renew possibilities for each of their own lives.
Jeffrey is survived by his daughters; Gracelynne B. Evans, Dorothy Greene, and Sabrina Greene. His sons, Larry Hilt, and Derek Hall. His sister, Sebrina L. Jones. Some friendships last a lifetime and Jeffrey had many friends. He was fortunate enough to call most of his friends "family". Jeffrey was someone who could make light out of any situation and those who surrounded him instantly saw him as family. Through moments of uncertainty - the one certain thing paramount to Jeffrey - was his need to help. His ambition was to find a purpose! He would sit aside all his own buried troubles to help someone in need.
Jeffrey's departure from this world will allow him eternal peace. His pain, memories and childhood troubles are no more. All that surrounds him now is dirt roads, fishing holes, and smiles watching down on all of you he loved. As you join us to say our final farewell, remember Jeffrey and the good within. Remember the joy-- the laughter -- and many fishing trips. Hold onto the memories -- the adventures -- and know this isn't Goodbye. "When you think of me - remember me as I was, and know I am only a call away. I know many of my family and friends held my hand and guided me through." "Now it's my turn to take the lead, and hold all of your hands for what is to come". "On April 27, 2024 I gained my wings and I watched a most beautiful sunrise glowing over a body of water --- so very perfect". "Oh how I wish you all could see!" "And know when you may need me, I'm forever near, and just a conversation away." "For now, I'm enjoying this new place I call home." Love, Jeffrey Allen Greene

Steven Gonzales - June 12, 1973 - April 25, 2024

Departed: 04/25/2024 (Humble)
Obituary Preview: Steven “Stevie” Gonzales, born on June 12, 1973 passed away on April 25, 2024 at the young age of 50, surrounded by his loving family. Steve grew up in Channelview, where he excelled in several sports including one of his true loves, football. He was celebrated in the newspaper several times for his athleticism, but most notably, he was nicknamed in the Sentinel Newspaper as “Pound For Pound”, as he was the smallest, with the biggest “bite” in the district. He graduated from Channelview High School in 1990, and went on to college where he earned two Masters’ Degrees from the University of Houston Downtown, and later, a second from the University of Houston, Clear Lake. Steve loved to travel, and had the opportunity to work abroad for three years with his family, enabling him to
travel to over 40 countries; amongst his favorites were Greece, Egypt, Thailand and, of course, his precious baby girl’s namesake, Britain. Anyone who knew Steve knew that on the weekends he could be found at the baseball fields, watching Jayden do his thing, or taking his Brit Brit to Peter Piper, or other places she enjoys. Steve also enjoyed watching or attending the Houston Rockets, Astros, and Texans games with Jayden, and his closest friends. Steve began his educational career in Galena Park ISD as a teacher, then a CIC, and eventually, as an Assistant Principal. He had a strong and lasting impact on many children, and adults that he worked with throughout his life. Steve also took pride in coaching his nephew’s teams, as well as Jayden’s throughout the years. He was always known as a loving and dedicated coach, a servant, and educator; and was able to inspire and touch many lives. Amongst all of his accomplishments, Steve would agree that his greatest accomplishment was the birth of his two children, Jayden, 13 and Britain, 6. His presence was seen at every practice, game or every activity that either child participated in. Steve loved his children more than anything and was the greatest daddy any child could ever know. His babies were his entire world. His children gave him strength, laughter, and joy all of the time. He was so proud of his kids; his family and friends will hold dear the stories that they will be privileged to tell them one day of their caring, loving daddy. Steve loved and cherished his family and friends, he would make it a point to tell them that he loved and appreciated them as often as possible. You knew you were loved by Steve because he would wrap you with a giant bear hug when he saw you, or send a text with a funny story which included a unique, Steve-given nickname. Steve is survived by his parents, Ray and Lupe, his wife Bri, his two children, Jayden and Britain, sister Ann (Charles) Bennett, brother Albert Ray Jr. (Elizabeth), along with nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. beloved family pets. We love you, Steve, and miss you terribly.

Dien Phuc Nguyen - November 19, 1941 - April 24, 2024

Departed: 04/24/2024 (Humble)
Obituary Preview: In Loving Memory of Dien Phuc Nguyen Born: November 19, 1941 - Departed: April 24, 2024
To know Dien Nguyen was no small task... he was known to be difficult to approach, abrupt in replies, and gruff in nature. However, take the time to get to know him, and you are gifted with reward that overshadows any lottery or treasure. Dien the husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle displayed warmth and generosity beyond anyone's expectations, and never asked favor in return. He was singularly responsible for emigrating not only his immediate family, but also his father, siblings, and various in-laws from a war torn Vietnam to a new beginning in Maryland. The success of everyone involved the flight, along with countless other relatives later over the years, can be attributed to his courageous leadership and belief in the promise of the American dream. Despite all of the lives he enhanced, the true saga of Dien Nguyen is a love story, one which spans over 53 years with his bride Nga Nguyen. Through thick and thin, theirs was a true romance where chivalry reigned true.
Dien is survived by his sons Huy, Hiep and Charles, long with their wives Linda, Ngoc, and Ann. His pride and joy truly are his grandkids Amber, Ethan, Hayden, Payon, Cameron, Kendall, Claire, and Keira.
His viewing will be at Jessie Faye Fields Chapel at Rosewood Memorial Park, 7908 Rankin Road, Humble, TX 77396, on Friday, May 3rd from 5-8 PM.

Beverly Jean De Spain - February 08, 1946 - April 15, 2024

Departed: 04/15/2024 (Humble)
Obituary Preview: Beverly Jean Nelson DeSpain was proud to have been born and reared in Pasadena, Texas, the child of Cato and Nelwyn Burke Nelson. Father, Cato Neal Nelson, was born in Norway and came to American in 1908 where he was a longtime resident and business owner of Cato’s Café in downtown Pasadena for 31 years before passing at the age of 81. Mother, Nelwyn Nelson, also worked at the café which, of course, became Beverly’s, as well as her friends’ “go-to” place. It is no wonder that she never met a stranger, developing a quick wit and bubbly personality that was definitely a trademark to be remembered.
Beverly graduated from Pasadena High School in 1964 where she was actively involved in the marching band playing the xylophone bells. She continued her education, attending San Jacinto College for cosmetology and soon was the owner of Bev-A-Nel Beauty Box in Pasadena. While at San Jacinto College she was introduced to the love of her life, Bill DeSpain, by her best friend and neighbor Sam (Buster) Ellis. Married on October 2, 1974, Bill and Beverly made a dynamic couple! They never had children but any animal fortunate enough to have them as its owners was blessed beyond imagination. As members of the Bay Area Bird Club, they raised exotics of all varieties. Innumerable dogs and cats were also a part of their menagerie.
Bill shared his expertise in art and commercial advertising as a valuable employee of Glacier Beverages. Beverly’s dedication and Nordic work ethic made her a prized member of the staff at the main US Post Office near Intercontinental Airport for many years. Both retired from their respective employers.
Both Bill and Beverly were artistic: painting, make-up artist, hair stylist, scrapbooking, designing 3-D cards, decorative boxes and, of course, music, which was their primary shared passion. Beverly played the xylophone, piano and harp, not your ordinary run-of-the-mill instruments, for sure. She LOVED music. She was being taught piano by her grandmother at the age of 4 years old followed by her mom continuing the training.
Invited by Sam and Cheryl Ellis to join them at church, Bill and Beverly accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior in 1980 at Church of the Living Water in Deer Park. Bill, Beverly, Sam and Cheryl became a “fearsome foursome” in the early eighties. Both couples began to open their homes to fellowships, Bible studies, and prayer meetings.
As active members of the church Bill and Beverly found their ministry in singing together as the Joint Heirs and produced a CD titled “In His Presence”. They joined Don Vinson in the Bay Area Gospel Music Association and enjoyed singing all over the area for Christian sing-a-longs, concerts, and other gatherings. This was truly a dream come true for Beverly. Now all her and Bill’s other interests, while still important and enjoyable, began to take a back seat to the developing of avenues to use their gifts of music to glorify their King Jesus! Later active at Elim Church in South Houston and as of this date a member of Sagemont Church, Beverly continued in loving the Lord Jesus and living it out loud.
Bill was THE tenor she loved!! HOWEVER, in second place was the legendary David Phelps of the Gaither group. Beverly was an active club member of “David Phelps Fans and Friends” and to complete her bucket list she was thrilled to attend his concert at Sagemont Church.
In 2011 Bill’s passing and other life changing events rocked Beverly’s world. Thus, in in 2015 she moved her residence to Park Manor South Belt Skilled Nursing Facility. Naturally, she became the “belle of the ball” with numerous new friends, both residents and employees. Words cannot express our gratitude to the caring and wonderful folks at Park Manor South Belt. They made all the difference in her daily life, and that did not go unnoticed. And we CANNOT forget the amazing Sagemont Church friends and volunteers that came consistently throughout the years to encourage, pray with and be there for her. Beverly is not dead; she has just changed addresses. Dancing the streets of gold and singing her lungs out with the heavenly hosts, she is finally full of joy everlasting!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who need to know about the passing. They can also help families process their grief and provide closure.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or obituary writer may assist with writing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include funeral service details and charitable donation information.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's usually between 100-500 words. The goal is to provide a concise yet meaningful summary of the person's life.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to include one or more photos of the deceased. This can help personalize the obituary and make it more engaging.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and deadlines. Some newspapers may have online submission forms or email addresses for submitting obituaries.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, it's becoming increasingly common for people to write their own obituaries in advance. This can ensure that your life story is told in your own words and can be a therapeutic exercise.

What's the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute to the person's life.

Can I include humor or anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! Obituaries don't have to be somber and serious. Including humorous stories or anecdotes can help celebrate the person's personality and make the obituary more engaging.

How do I find an old obituary?

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or obituary websites. Many libraries also maintain archives of local newspapers that can be searched in person or through interlibrary loan programs.

Can I republish an obituary on social media or my personal website?

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe varies depending on the publication or platform. Newspapers may have same-day or next-day publication options, while online platforms may publish immediately or within a few hours.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to share the obituary publicly, you can opt for a private online memorial or share it only with close family and friends.

Yes! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and support a good cause.

How do I handle inaccuracies or disagreements about an obituary?

If you discover errors or inaccuracies in an obituary, contact the publisher or author directly to request corrections. If there are disagreements among family members or friends about the content, try to reach a consensus before publication.

Can I create an online memorial instead of a traditional obituary?

Yes! Online memorials offer a flexible and interactive way to celebrate a loved one's life. They can include photos, videos, stories, and condolences from friends and family.

What if I'm struggling to write an obituary due to grief?

It's okay to take your time and seek support from friends, family, or a professional writer if needed. Writing an obituary can be a difficult task during a difficult time – prioritize your emotional well-being and don't hesitate to ask for help.

Can I include funeral service details in an online obituary?

Yes! Including funeral service details can help inform friends and family about upcoming services and allow them to pay their respects.

How do I ensure accuracy when writing an obituary?

Doubles-check facts such as dates, names, and spellings. Verify information with other family members or friends if necessary. It's better to err on the side of caution than risk publishing inaccurate information.
